This is the story of an idol group founded by a desperate company in a last ditch effort to stay afloat after losing all of their talent. So you’ve got the company’s perspective as they desperate scout for idols and the perspective of what appears to be a huge group of girls. I’m guessing that because you’ve got both sides it won’t be a moe overload show, although with that many girls you are sure to get your required dosage of cuteness. Fans of Idolm@ster will be pleased to hear this has the same main scriptwriter. All in all, anyone who loves being a little voyeuristic and seeing the lives of idols should be happy. Just don’t get too attached because the director is Yamakan and he’s basically made a name for himself just for being a failure. That’s not a good reputation to have! I doubt he’ll be “saving anime” any time soon, but maybe he’ll do a bit better in this unassuming anime about idols?
Saving anime through the power of singing and dancing. That’s what Yamakan’s been all about with his past couple series Fractale and Kannagi. Okay, singing and dancing wasn’t a huge party of Fractale, though there was much more of it than there should have been. It’s Yamakan’s studio Ordet, which has shown itself to be quite capable in animation with Black Rock Shooter, and idols are the big thing in anime right now, so I’m hopeful we’ll at least get some good dancing sequences in this one. Other than that, well, Yamakan better have learned a lot from the last time he tried to save anime.

I must be partial to shows with deities in addition to fantasy shows, because here I am, looking forward to another show with gods (the other this season being Noragami). What makes this one interesting, however, is the fact that the heroine is apparently granted the ability to change her form after saving a baby fox and thus winning a goddess’s favor. From what I’ve heard, her shape shifting shenanigans include turning into the girl of her love interest’s attention (that’ll go over well) and even changing her gender. Yeah, there’s sure to be no shortage of absurd but entertaining developments.

Ignore the fact that the director is the same guy who directed Vampire Bund. Focus on the romance aspect. Or the fact that Aoi Yuuki is in this (you know, the seiyuu for Akira in Valvrave? Though I guess her best known role is still Madoka from Madoka Magica). Actually, the story sounds really promising too, since it’s about a prince losing everything, going off looking for nothing but revenge and then somehow finding friendship/love/whatnot instead. It sounds pretty typical, but it could be super heartwarming~. …The fact that they have a military affairs research person (Takaki Suzuki, the same guy who helped with Girls and Panzer) should make things interesting too.

I have a thing for supernatural themed anime. Add youkai/demons/psychic powers and you will see me salivating for some dark story. However, this doesn’t seem to be the latter rather a fun take on King of the Hell Enma’s aide Hōzuki. Now consider his position, he’s the right-hand man for the Japanese version of Hades and he has to have a sadistic streak of delivering punishment with a deadpan calmness? Well, even if you couldn’t, I guessed that for you and I sure as hell would enjoy it. Supposedly, his duties include keeping in check all problems in Hell under its 272 stations. The first story is about Momotarō and his problematic companions (dog, monkey and pheasant), but there will be more later on with Sadako and other historical heroes/nuisances. However, he is not so dry that his hobbies will only including beating everyone with his thorned club… He also likes to spend his free time on fawning over cute animals and raising “Goldfish Flowers”. Yep, they actually look like gold fishes on a stem.
Interestingly, Attack on Titan famed Wit Studio is behind this production with Hiro Kaburaki as director. He has mostly directed popular shoujo mangas like Kimi no Todoke and Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun with a few more staff roles as in-charge of storyboard and episode director. However, these two series were marvelously adapted to anime so I have hopes that the anime will be true to manga, which is pretty interesting if supernatural theme is your thing. Also, I really do like the character design similar to classical Japanese art rather than the rounded/pointiness of today. Hōzuki’s character fascinates me and I’m sure Hiroki Yasumuto will do it justice with his deep voice. We also have some industry oldies like Daisuke Hirakawa, Eri Kitamura, Hiroki Gotou, and Koji Yusa joining the fray. This should be interesting.

A continuation of the first series, we should return to Tenbi Academy with Takeru, and his harem of (mostly) big-breasted ladies. The first series of this was somewhat of a mess, with about 8 girls interested in this loser guy, including the four he ends up living with, as they all try to develop their magical abilities and learn to wield their Maken. I don’t know if we should expect anything approaching a plot from this series, although there will be plenty of, as Fosh says, “PLOT”. Maybe the switch from AIC to Xebec will benefit it, but being picked up by Hiraku Kaneko, who also directed Seikon no Qwaser, Witchblade, and Manyuu Hikenchou (the only show I’ve dropped after 10 minutes), it’s really a hit or miss proposition.

Oh, we are not done with the PK powers in the least. Humans with special powers is nothing new but I always like a new spin to it. Hamatora has people called “Minimum” or Minimum Holders, who possess different hereditary powers and of course their number is limited. The story is set in Yokohama in 2014 when two Minimum Holder detectives (Nice and Murasaki voiced by Ryota Ohsaka and Wataru Hatano respectively), from Hamatora agency get embroiled in a serial murder case, where the killer is only targeting Minimum Holders. Even if they want, they can’t complain to their friend Art (cop on the case assigned and voiced by Hiroshi Kyaamiya), the contractor of this job, as they go deep to discover the killer.
You must be hearing about a lot of multimedia or mixed-media projects these days with either the story taking different paths per medium or an amalgamation released in anime, manga, game and/or drama CDs. Hamatora is such a project with anime helmed by Chief Director Seiji Kishi (Danganronpa, Persona 4 The Animation, Angel Beats!), with original character designer by Yūki Kodama (Blood Lad manga). Manga, game and ‘more’ will follow the anime release. Makoto Yoshimori is responsible for music and the dude has some amazing titles under his belt: Durarara!!, all Natsume Yuujinchou releases, Baccano! and Kuragehime. As well, Livetune’s FLAT featuring Yuuki Ozaki will be the opening theme. Music definitely seems to be the strongest contender and the soundtrack should be awesome. Though, I hope this is not another Devil Survivor 2 with cool music and amazing seiyuu cast with no plot, with it being produced by a new studio NAZ. However, their work on the trailer doesn’t look amateur and I even liked the thermal tones in some scenes. Well, it’s very early to predict anything concrete as this is an original concept but it has piqued my interest and I’ll keep you all posted on it.

I know that Super Sonico is a fake gravure model created by Nitro+, but that’s about it. In fact, I’m afraid the only thing to her is a pretty design and tons of figures and pictures of her in scanty clothing with her boobs being pushed out to the max. Somehow, being a mascot made her popular enough to get CDs, manga and games about her despite the fact that all she has to her is “she’s a hot model.” Still, it’s hard to deny that her design is simple, alluring, and easy to market. I guess the next logical step in her road to world domination is an anime, isn’t it
There’s really not a lot for the director to go off of considering how Super Sonico is just meant to be looked at. Somehow I’m sure they’ll find mindless things for her to do while showcasing how hot she is. The trailer isn’t very promising. I doubt there will be much interest here aside from sex appeal…but I suppose that’s the point. There are probably better anime to cater to that but if you’re a Super Sonico fan then you’re covered. I honestly have no clue why a good studio like White Fox (Steins;Gate, Jormungand) agreed to do this.

Featuring an imposing all-star cast including the likes of Chiwa Saito, Ami Koshimizu, Hanakana, Shizuka Itou, Aki Toyosaki, and Fukujun, D-Frag! quite literally sounds impressive. As for the show itself, apparently it’s about a wannabe outcast who finds himself outmatched by and forced to accompany a gaggle of eccentric girls. Doesn’t sound too inspiring, but I think this will be one of those shows whose success hinges upon the execution of the frenetic humor. With other giants this season such as SYD2 aiming for pretty much the same thing though, D-Frag! might be in for a tough competition for attention.

You’re still watching Kill la Kill? High five! Based on some of your thoughts on the posts regarding the show, I thought it would be one you’d drop because of the fanservice. The story has gotten better and wilder now that the one responsible for the murder of Ryuko’s father has been revealed. One of the favorites is obviously Mako for her hyperactive antics. Never a dull moment.

Some corrections:
1. Since Yowamushi Pedal was also listed, Gundam Build Fighters and Hajime no Ippo Rising should be listed as well for Fall shows that will carry over for next season.
2. Gundam BF should be listed under Sunrise in the Round Up page and Ippo for Madhouse(listing HxH is probably pushing it).
And I counted…22 shows that I plan to watch. A step down from the 30 titles last Fall but more or less on par with how many I pick up every season. Coupled with the two-cour shows I’m carrying over(15) and, yeah, I am so dead. Watching anime is suffering. Why do I do this and what did I do to deserve this? щ(ﾟДﾟщ)
The ones I’m looking forward to are Nisekoi, Mahou Sensou, Space Dandy, Gin no Saji, Chuu2 Ren, Buddy Complex and Seitokai Yakuindomo*. So yeah, I’m gonna need a lot of luck to survive this.

Nope, been working for quite some time now. Not really a hard job and I manage to watch anime when I go home. I even sneak in reading a volume or two of an LN at work 😉
It’s still quite a lot of titles to watch though so balancing time is crucial. I’ll manage somehow. At least I hope so.
Yep, those are on my list to watch as well. I’m still undecided on the other Nobunaga anime though. One Nobunaga is probably enough for me.

No worries, I am reading the KnK LN at work too. xD Though, my work hours are longer and ugh. I am still doing this because well I love the community and Metanorn being my second home. :3
And yeah, I saw the preview and like a Type-Moon tard sniffed hard and said, this is so fanmade! I mean, they are basically Fate/Zero shots and voice-overs along with some FSN and UBW clips and the actual VN screenshot at the end. Nothing new so I’m wondering if they have actually started production work or this is a teaser for reveal for this being a reboot or HF adaptation.

Oh I know. Being a Type-Moon fan can really make ANYONE a patient fool because you have to wait for everything forever. Remember, Mahoyo was supposedly getting subs this year but oh well, another year gone for waiting. Yeah but that’s scheduled for Spring 2014 so you’re still in for a wait. The second season for Prisma Illya has yet to be announced with a release date. But this might lead to criticism and I might be part of it. If Fate/Stay Night is getting a reboot then there shouldn’t be a reason for Tsukihime not to get the same treatment. I demand equality!!!

Yeah Valvrave was entertaining and a lot of fun because it was somewhat refreshing take on mecha+supernatural with all the vampire stuff thrown in!

Good job on the preview team! My lack of participation comes mostly from my return to writing retirement and general lack of interest in shows this season. There’s older shows and movies I’d like to get to, and I have PS4 games to play, too!
Of the series premiering in Winter ’14, I’m only intending to look at 3 of them. Space Dandy because of the hype, Silver Spoon because I enjoyed the first 11 episodes lots and it has a very similar comfort level of enjoyment that Space Bros has brought me weekly, and Nisekoi because I’ve enjoyed the chunk of manga I’ve read so far and am curious of Shaft and Shinbo (though I thought Sasami-san was horrible).
Hoozuki no Reitetsu looks the best out of the shows I’m passing on, and while I saw and liked season 1 of Chuu2Koi, I feel I’ve seen plenty enough of that series and can’t gather any interest in a season 2.

You’ve compared Space Bros and Gin no Saji well because I kept up with both shows even when I was travelling, I like these two so much. And I hated Sasami-san too. I just couldn’t connect with the story at all, so not everything Shinbo produces (including Maria Holic), turns out gold.
Hozuki for now looks like a trap to me, something like that Cuticle Tantei Inaba, which I thought would be great but was just average. But as the dude looks like Snape and I like the art style, I hope it would be something around black comedy rather than downright weird comedy.

As usual, Winter doesn’t seem to be that impressive with the series it’s showcasing. In general, they seem pretty average but hopefully there’ll be some hidden gems to keep us busy until Spring. I try to have as much variety as I can so I try to watch as much as possible and so there would also be something to pass the time. Sometimes I don’t always manage to watch all that’s on my list and it would fall into backlog so I’m taking advantage of Fall’s end and the two cour anime break to catch up on some shows like Gingitsune and Kyousougiga.
As for the list, I forgot to add Double Circle, Neppu Kairiku Bushi Road, Strange+ and Pupa. So the total number of Winter animes is actually 23 instead of 19. Plus, I’m still following most of the ongoing Fall 2013 animes and there’s 9 of them making a grand total of 32. I’ll get through somehow but something tells me some are going to get dropped to lighten the load.

I’m not hyped about any series either(except for a couple :3 ) but I’ll try to extend Christmas a little bit and try shows I wouldn’t normally tough. Who knows, they may be better than you expected ^_^

Well, come to think of it I didn’t have much expectations for this fall either(by fall standards though) but it had a few nice surprises.Heck, one in particular that I had mediocre expectations AT BEST for turned out to be my favorite show of the year.
I also ended up dropping a few as well though and I have no doubt I’ll do the same again. This is actually a really long list for me to have for the winter season as my watch-list for a rich season like fall & spring contains about 10-12 shows. I’ll be surprised if I’ll watch more than 1/3 of them beyond 3-4 episodes and I’ll probalby end up dropping a few after the 1st episode.
Regardless of what I’ll end up dropping though, I find the process of trying out the new shows when they make their premiere quite fun. It’s the time when almost anything can turn out to be good(I remember even having some hopes for this thing).So as much as some of us claim to keep their expectations in check(*raises hand*), it’s still the moment when we’re the most hopeful, IMHO.

As usual, I tend not to get too hyped up for shows that aren’t out yet. Personally, I think my methodology of not being too excited for them allows me to keep from putting expectations on them that they might not live up to. Or maybe it’s just that I’m more forgiving than most people about silly shows. 🙂
That said, I am most interested in Witch Craft Works and Nourin, although I’m kind of hoping Yukarin sings in the more grown up voice she has, not the cutesy one. The PV video isn’t bad, it’s kind of on the line.

That’s a wise strategy. Expectations are what sometimes ruin a show.
For example, I went to watch The girl who leapt through time expecting that it would be stronger than 5cm per second (cuz my lecturer told me it was, in her opinion) but it wasn’t. It wasn’t even close o-o in my opinion, at least.

You should watch Garden of Words, now that was better than 5cm per second but again, depends on your taste really. I liked A Girl Who Leapt Through Time than these two titles because of my personal obsession over time travel. ;3

I think it’s the exact opposite. On first glance, 5cm per second may have ended on a sad note, but when you look closer, you understand that the sad ending is actually a beautiful beginning.

Dude, I know where you are coming from. I’ve seen all Clannad so yeah. Key can be very sadistic and with JC adapting Little Busters, the anime just never piqued my interest. I might play the VN some time later but I am staying AWAY from Refrain for sure.

I’ve been pretty disappointed in Little Busters and Refrain. And if this is what Key brings, I’m not interested in their other stuff. Ersatz emotion, extreme manipulation, trying to pass off selfishness as ‘for your best interests’, needless ‘heroic sacrifices’.

IMHO, you have missed a lot of the points of the show not to mention you have some heavy negative bias to it. But w/e, I’m not the type who go all out when my opponent have no intention to change his views or listen to me.
Also, that a bad way to view things. Sure they may share some signature styles and in Jun Maeda works similar themes, but they are explored differently in each works. (Or so I’m told) In fact, peeps who played their 2nd latest work Rewrite have mentioned that its a pretty different entry frm their past works.

Hmmmmmmm…. for me, it’s more like I-just-don’t-have-enough-time-in-the-day rather than burning out. These days I’m lucky if I can squeeze in two shows a day.
