Fall Anime Catalogue 2014

Welcome to METANORN’s Fall Anime Catalogue of 2014!

Last updated on 27th September: for latest PV and seiyuu info.

The FATEFUL Fall is here. You know what I did there? Yep. And bring in some cold soon because damn it’s a sauna here! Living in South Asia pretty much means that equator keeps shining on your faces all the time. Anyways, besides shitty weather, Summer was not so bad. I passed onto the 20+ watch list again and damn, Haikyuu!! is ending this week and HunterxHunter too… Oh well, good thing is that interesting anime will always be there and on my top list without anyone’s doubt is FSN: UBW. I have been waiting so long for a proper adaptation so ufotable, go crazy. There’s also Psycho-Pass, Terra Formars, Parasyte, Mushishi and Log Horizon to keep me happy. As well, some promising series like Shigatsu wa kimi no uso, Yowapedal, Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis and Wolf Girl & Black Prince so let’s hope for a happening end of the year!
SCREW YOU SUMMER! I hate you and your hot weather, but at least the anime was good because it brought the end of Captain Earth finally and the halfway point of Aldnoah.Zero. So as we say goodbye to all the summer anime, sadly we have to move on to the fall; however I am very excited for it because not only do I have one Gundam series coming out I get two!? Whoa that is a huge surprise for me! Normally us Gundam fans are lucky to get just one new Gundam series a year! Besides Gundam I also plan on taking a look at Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo! Yeah that looks uh different…beside the giant robots I am happy to see a lot of returning anime with Log Horizon, Chiaka, WIXOSS, Psycho-Pass and Yowamushi Pedal! That and of course tons of new anime that I am looking forward too like Nanatsu no Taizai, Kiseijuu, Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso and finally Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru just to name a few! Then again I always attempt to watch at least the first episode of every new series.
The fall anime season means two things: we’re getting a lot of great new anime, and we’re switching over from complaining about the heat to complaining about the cold. But really, you’re here to read about the former rather than the latter. And while I found the summer to be full of great shows, the fall season is nothing to sneeze at. I’m pretty hyped about more Mushishi and Psycho-Pass, and I think some non-sequels may end up winning me over as well. I hope you find at least one show you like while going through our guide, because we’ve got it all!
So another 3 months have passed, meaning we get to look forward to a whole new set of shows. Summer 2014 was certainly an interesting season, with some truly exceptional shows, including a hugely improved sequel in Space Dandy S2 and a refreshingly off-the-wall take on a familiar premise in Sabagebu. But it also had its share of disappointments that started out with promise but quickly fell into trainwreck category, in Terror in Resonance and Aldnoah.Zero. Here’s hoping we’ll get more of the former kind and less of the latter. As always, it’s impossible to tell beforehand what will be worth watching, but a few old franchises should prove at least interesting. There’s Ufotable’s wholly unnecessary Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works remake and the not only unnecessary but unwelcome sequel to Psycho-Pass. We’ll see if they can win over this skeptic. But I think the show of the season will be another existing franchise, Sword Art Online S2, which has continued its godawful showing from the end of season 1 to the 1st half of season 2. As long as it continues its spectacular descent – and I see no reason it won’t – it should be the show that most consistently provides entertainment week to week.
Fall already? I swear, we just started summer… But hey, there seem to be a lot of sequels to some pretty great shows, so that’s exciting (Mushishi and Log Horizon being examples of that). Plus there seems to be a decent amount of shoujo shows (er, at least 2 + that ONA), a few shounen, the usual harem ones, and a surprising amount of angst-ridden anime (assuming Psycho-Pass and WIXOSS continue like their first seasons), so really, there’s something for everyone.
The lull of summer season is finally over. It’s time for another jam-packed fall! This year’s is most notable for two things. There’s the return of F/SN, headed by the reputable Ufotable. You can bet we’ll be covering that one. And there’s also the long-awaited continuation of Log Horizon, which will be going head-to-head with SAO directly this time around. So hold on to your panties, and let the flame wars begin!
To me, the End of Summer means that it’s finally getting back to good weather! And it also means that we’ve got new anime series coming up, which is usually a good thing. As usual, I’m not anticipating much from the series in the new season, but there are a couple that doing this preview has gotten me interested in.  Hopefully they’ll be as good as they seem, and all the ones that don’t seem as good will be better!
I’m not alone in wishing the crappy, hot summer weather goodbye (though to be fair mine was rather mild). Nor am I alone in the anticipation of Fall anime goodies. Over the years I’ve always allowed myself to expect the unexpected, and discover something new that only this medium is capable of; quirky ideas like Twintails, Inou-battle, and adorable Slice o’ Rom or Com in Sora no Method. With that in mind, we do have some very hot returning properties to look forward to in WIXOSS, Chaika, and Log Horizon, and a massive amount of expectation for the Fate/Stay Night venture. I’ll be seeing you here and thereabout, thanks for dropping in and commenting.

I hope you enjoy our comprehensive listing of Fall anime 2014, meticulously organized under categories for your viewing pleasure. Kudos to Ness, who helped with the post graphics and draft transfer, while Fosh, Suma, Kara and the  Team Meta members for information gathering and comments. Our previews take weeks to accumulate as we not only tackle the TV series but Shorts/ONA/OVA/SP/Movies as well. So, happy reading and without any further ado:

Great job on the preview everyone!

    What I’m looking forward to:
    F/SN UBW (ufotable + Type-Moon = Win)
Chaika 2 (Great, enjoyable first season)
Log Horizon 2 (perhaps my favorite of the mini-talks we’ve done here)
Psycho-Pass 2 (lvlln summed up why I would’ve been happy with just one P-P series, but I’m still looking forward to this. Akane’s a great character)
Mushishi Zoku Shou 2nd half (god-tier, yes)
Akatsuki no Yona (looks like a cool shoujo-adventure type series, somewhat similar to The World is Still Beautiful, which I enjoyed)
Seven Deadly Sins (might need a shounen replacement once HxH ends)

    Will Give a Fighting Chance:
Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis (a card game anime that looks cool? Color me surprised as well, OC)
Reconguista in G (Been a while since I’ve looked at Gundam)

I’m gonna be cruel here… the Rom-Com Slice section of anime this season is one of the worst I’ve ever seen in a season preview. Every show looks about the same (save Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso) and the lot of them are just so ordinary.

    • Foshizzel says:

Great list of anime that you are looking forward too Jrow and indeed Log Horizon is such a fun anime to chat about weekly! There is always something interesting and unique to talk about and I hope the second season continues the trend from the first.

Yeah I am keeping an eye on Reconguista! I dunno what this Gundam is gonna do because the last time we got a full blown Gundam series, not counting build fighters season one cause that has themes of teamwork and frienships and wasn’t about war. Anyway the last official series we got from Sunrise was AGE and honestly that had only a handful of epic moments, but in the end it had issues finishing things off and slowly crashed for a lot of fans! So I have my fingers crossed that Sunrise will not repeat themselves with Reconguista.

I can see your point on this seasons ROM-COM a lot of them are copy paste from each other, but it is unusual to see KyoAni behind a harem series! That is new to me at least even though I know there won’t be a real “romance” found in that cause that is one thing I think KyoAni fails at >.>

      • JPNIgor says:

I’m not expecting KyoAni’s series to be so focused on harem. I’m expecting something along the lines of Working and Servant x Service.

    • skylion says:

In the RomComSlice Amagi, Genki, and Sora look like they might stand up and take some notice. The Three Y show looks like it might be quirky enough to be up my alley.

    • Kyokai says:

Romance genre has been on a decline recently. The other three sections over-power it and I’m sure as hell happy to see variety under sci-fi supernatural and outcast category. About damn time!

      • BlackBriar says:

I’m thinking the genre is on a decline because lately its stories are getting a bit too sappy. And I think most prefer romance as a plot device than a series that’s heavily dominated by that one genre.

        • Foshizzel says:

I’m thinking the genre is on a decline because lately its stories are getting a bit too sappy

          amen

          • BlackBriar says:

In general, it doesn’t affect me either way because I’m not a big fan of the romance genre. In my opinion, it’s just a story’s means to an end.

  2. belatkuro says:

It’s that time of the year again. There’s surprisingly few carryovers from last season, plus a long-running show ending as well(HiatusxHiatus), so I’m going to be picking up quite a lot(as usual). Having been doing this for a long time will really get you used to it. This is quite a tiring hobby even if it’s meant to entertain and relax you.

With that said, I’m picking up over 20+ shows that may or may not increase. The ones I’m hyped are:

F/SN UBW: I’ve been saying it all this time and I’ll repeat myself as many times. It’s good to be a Fate fan this year. After 2wei, we’re immediately jumping to another Fate show. And it’s my favorite route of the VN. You can’t imagine my joy when I found out about it. Rin, Archer, Shirou, Rin, Saber, Gilgamesh, and Rin. Did I mention Rin?
Fans apparently are denying the existence of the first F/SN already but I say ufotable is actually acknowledging it by deciding to adapt UBW and HF. Though that means they denied the movie version but they must have hated that I guess.
My body is still not ready for it. Definitely hyped so much for it. Will watch it live, rewatch the raw and then rewatch it with subs.

Vanadis: It might be on the same imprint as Dragonar, Mahou Sensou and Blade Dance but it’s actually loads better than those. While it does look fanservice-y, there’s actually some good medieval army fights that employ tactics, traps and tricks in them. Even factoring the power of the Vanadis women, it still makes use of tactics like flanking armies and setting up ambushes.
The male lead is also not a beta guy and can hold his own in a fight. He’s a monster in using a bow.
I wouldn’t mind seeing it in Metafap as long as it gets covered.

Yowapeda: After a break, here we’ll get the continuation of the biking anime. It left out in the middle of the race and more so one page short of a chapter so this will head right to it. The episodes do tend to get dragged a lot with an episode dedicated to covering 400 meters and more so that it’s in the middle of a sprint.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed it a lot and the third day of competition holds a lot of promise from what I’ve read so far. Hyped for more Hime Hime.

Trinity Seven: Having marathoned this last month, it’s a pretty enjoyable read. The male is an open pervert but not to Issei levels and the girls are somewhat open with it. He can also hold his own as well in the battles.
The latest PV made me grin a lot with the numbers that they were mentioning(which are obviously their three sizes) so I’m excited as well.
This show definitely belongs to Metafap if anyone would decide to cover it.

Nanatsu no Taizai: Also a manga I marathoned last month. It’s also a good manga. A pretty straightforward battle shounen manga but has some underlying twists and mysteries in it as well. It also has quite a respectable cast with Kaji Yuki in the forefront and the rising star Amamiya Sora.

Gundam Build Fighters Try: First season was a show that most dismissed for its premise and initial looks but it’s totally enjoyable once you get to it. It’s definitely a work of fans for fan of Gundam with all those suits from different franchises. Gundam may be about war and politics and all that stuff but there’s none of that here and that’s actually a good thing. Like Ramba Ral said in the PV, it’s because there’s none of that that they can battle seriously. We even have a female protagonist that will get to battle as well, and using an SD unit no less.
Will definitely set my GP base to it.

Log Horizon s2: A show that didn’t escape getting compared to SAO and for a good reason. It was still able to hold out on its own and seems to be more preferred to than the other for reasons as well. I won’t get into the debate of what’s better as that’s been discussed to hell already. Saying that another show sucked doesn’t automatically make the other show good. And people have different tastes and should be respected for them.
That said, definitely looking forward to more DATABASE.
I have to resume reading the novels before it airs.

Grisaia no Kajitsu: A VN that got a positive feedback from the English speaking fandom due to the VN being fully translated. I downloaded it last year but never did manage to play it. Now that the anime is near, I finally got the urge to play it and I should have done so earlier. I still haven’t finished a route yet but the common route is pretty good and has a bundle of laughs in it. The cast are pretty good even if they’re walking archetypes(loli, tsundere, onee-san, kuudere, maid). There’s definitely more to them than that though and it gets revealed bit by bit as the story goes. I’m still wondering how they would proceed with the anime and which route they would go to as I heard there’s no true route amongst the girls. There are speculations but nothing more than that. I need to pick up the pace in playing(damn you real life)

Rest of the shows on my list are:
    Akatsuki no Yona
Amagi Brilliant Park – Will Kyoani find a way?
Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo
    Girlfriend(Kari) – That seiyuu cast…
Gundam G no Reconguista – Not as hyped as GBF but it’s Tomino after all
Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle – Chaika. Yes Chaika.
    Kisejuu: Sei no Kakuritsu
    Mushishi Zoku Shou 2nd Season
Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu – Why the hell not. I need a trashy show to watch
    Psycho-Pass 2
    Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso
    Shirobako – PA Works
    Terra Formars
    Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete
Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru

    Tentatives:
    Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai
Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken
    Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji
    Orenchi no Furo Jijou

    This should be good.

    • Foshizzel says:

RIP HiatusxHiatus I WILL MISS YOU T___________T

I love em some FATE! and I really hope F/SN UBW improves on the original story along with Shirou not being annoyingly protective over Saber or is that just how that character will always be? I don’t play VNs so I have no clue, but I hated that about him anyway Rin thou YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS <3

I don't like sports anime as much as most fans, but I think that Yowapeda opened my eyes and got me into the genre and now I really enjoy sports anime! I guess since I am not into sports in real life I always viewed them as dull xD

Out of all the returning anime I am the most excited for Gundam Build Fighters Try! I loved the first season and yeah sadly it was something everyone saw it as a watered down kids Gundam, but to each their own I found it to be more than kids playing with model kits because it was the characters that drove the plot and kept me wanting more! Especially the over the top battles during the world tournament? Where else would we see classic Gundams like the original fighting along side the Strike Freedom with Zaku's flying around? Only in Build fighters <3 also agreed s2 has a female that should be more useful than China! Not saying China is awful but she didn't really battle often.

I agree 10000% with your thoughts on Log Horizon! I just love how all the characters work as a team to figure things out instead of SAO tactics of Kirito's "skill" from the real world! Yeah the two will forever be compared due to genres, but we will which one pulls off that WOW THAT WAS AWESOME factor even though ill admit to being super super super bias towards Log Horizon...

Impressive list! It looks just like my own hahahah

    • BlackBriar says:

It also has quite a respectable cast with Kaji Yuki in the forefront and the rising star Amamiya Sora.

Rising star is no joke. Sora Amamiya is already getting fairly high profile roles in the animes she plays in. Aldnoah.Zero’s Princess Asseylum, Tokyo Ghoul’s Touka Kirishima. Even the titular female lead Akame from Akame ga Kill! All three are main roles. Was Kana Hanazawa this lucky when she began her seiyuu career?

      • Foshizzel says:

Amamiya Sora is great! I love listening to her xD

        • BlackBriar says:

Which of her characters were your favorite for the Summer?

For me, though it was hard to list, these are mine in its order:
          1. Touka Kirishima (Tokyo Ghoul)
          2. Akame (Akame ga Kill!)
          3. Asseylum (Aldnoah.Zero)

    • Kyokai says:

Wow, your list is long as always. And I’m with you on UBW, my favourite route because of GARcher and Rin of course. Cannot wait for October to begin!

I’ve found Yowapeda good in marathons because watching episodes on weekly basis is painful due to slow progress. Onoda is such a cute baby, he needs to be huggled I swear.

I prefer Log Horizon over SAO (oh here comes the hate), because of how meticulously the world has been explored. Love the explanation and cheats that seems almost plausible. It’s so much more than hey, I can be a girl and then go look for some gun.

I’m sure we’ll have some failures as usual but overall things are looking good.

And yeah, RIP HxH because who knows when we’ll get more story. >>

      • BlackBriar says:

I prefer Log Horizon over SAO (oh here comes the hate)

Yeesh, people are so stiff about likes and dislikes over these two video game centered animes that it’s almost like being involved in a feud between the Hatfields and the McCoys. I like both for aspects different from the other.

      • Foshizzel says:

You took the words right out my mouth Kyo on Log Horizon! I feel the same, but SAO fans are blind by the pretty visuals and don’t even get me started on Light Novel fan base…

Yeah HxH is probably going to be MIA for a long long long time and it makes me sad, but ah well that is the cycle of being a HxH fan lol.

        • Kyokai says:

I guess, this is a thing we’ll have to sign our own opinions on! xD

Btw, man, rewatching HxH episodes from 141 tonight for the preparation of 148 in a few hours. Really, this anime had an amazing run and damn I hope the mangaka gets a grip and starts again. >3<

  3. BlackBriar says:

“coughs blood” Ack, the catalogue came up earlier than I thought! I’m not fully prepared!! Aw, hell, I’m just going to wing it. First off, goodbye Summer, good riddance to all the heat and hello, Fall. The weather gets cooler, it gets dark earlier. Yes, I can work with that.

But really, it’s Fall again. Has it honestly been a year since the last one? Aside from sequels of great animes like Fate/Stay Night, Hitsugi no Chaika, Log Horizon, Mushishi Zoku Shou, Psycho-Pass and WIXOSS, skepticism is consuming me about the other series. Some may deliver, some may not but what I’m most curious about is if Fall 2014 has enough to measure up to what Fall 2013 was. Because that was a hoot!

Some new series are getting heaps of familiar seiyuus but I’m particularly hoping to hear more Sora Amamiya after she rocked Summer as Aldnoah.Zero’s Princess Asseylum, Tokyo Ghoul’s Touka Kirishima and Akame from Akame ga Kill! (Though the last one is still ongoing).

    Unquestionably on the watch list:
    Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works
    Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle
    Log Horizon 2nd Season
    Mushishi Zoku Shou 2
    Psycho-Pass 2
    Selector Spread WIXOSS

    Moderate:
Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo
    Garo: Honoo no Kokuin
Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de
    Kiseijuu
    Madan no Ou to Vanadis
    Nanatsu no Taizai
    Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu.
    Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis
    Terra Formars
    Trinity Seven: 7-nin no Mahoutsukai
    World Trigger

    Maybe:
    Akatsuki no Yona
    Donten ni Warau
    Gugure! Kokkuri-san

Most can already figure out who’s getting to blog what series simply by looking at the list. My guesses are:
Kyokai: Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works,
Skylion: Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle, Selector Spread WIXOSS
Foshizzel: Log Horizon 2nd Season, Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo
Overcooled: Mushishi Zoku Shou 2, Psycho-Pass2

Looks like Highway wants to tackle most of the Rom-com stuff. He’s really into those, isn’t he? 😉

    • Foshizzel says:

Hahaha well we almost were late on getting this out! Then again RC beat us to the punch so we had to get this post up asap~

I am happy to see WIXOSS, Chiaka, Log Horizon, Yowapeda and Psycho-Pass returning with their second seasons.

      Ya Amamiya Sora ftw <3

You are close on what I am blogging BB and as for Cross Ange we shall see...we shall see...

      • BlackBriar says:

Hahaha well we almost were late on getting this out! Then again RC beat us to the punch so we had to get this post up asap~

Yeah, I noticed RC had their catalogue up early as well. Probably because some of the new shows are beginning before September ends.

Still, I’m mind boggled by how many sequels we’re getting. It’s insane, really. There are six of them.

        Ya Amamiya Sora ftw

Indeed. For a rising star, she’s gaining momentum fast. Already having three main roles in her pocket. And she sings, too, because she also sings the OP for Akame ga Kill!

Hahaha, so I was close. My guesses were based on what I believed were the preferences of the bloggers. And they weren’t far off. After all, I’ve been here a while.

I’m so eager to see what this Fall has to offer. Looking at their presentation before actually seeing the first episodes, some aren’t looking so hot.

By comparison, Fall 2013, the series I watched were: Kakumeiki Valvrave 2, Strike the Blood (Still great even a year after the initial airing), Kill la Kill, Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta, Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Ars Nova, Freezing Vibration, Infinite Stratos 2, Diabolik Lovers, Phi Brain: Kami no Puzzle S3, Little Busters! Refrain, Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai!, Tokyo Ravens, Walkure Romanze, Galilei Donna, Yuusha ni Narenakatta (Yuushibu), Gingitsune, Outbreak Company, BlazBlue: Alter Memory, Kyoukai no Kanata, Unbreakable Machine-Doll, Log Horizon S1, Kyousougiga, Golden Time (I so regretted watching that. The story dulled and that male lead grew beyond irritating), Nagi no Asukara and White Album 2.

        • Kyokai says:

Drink lots of water and store up energy so not to cough more blood! xD

Things will heat up in Fall and let me remind you Durarara!! in Winter so yeahhhh! Btw, you are spot on for aniblogging list but most probably I’ll pick 1-2 more.

          • BlackBriar says:

Drink lots of water and store up energy so not to cough more blood! xD

Will do, ma’am. I just caught off guard by how fast the catalogue showed up.

Things will heat up in Fall and let me remind you Durarara!! in Winter so yeahhhh!

It’s tough being patient. But they say that good things come to those who wait. I’m waiting to see Celty finally reunited with her disembodied head.

Btw, you are spot on for aniblogging list but most probably I’ll pick 1-2 more.

Well, after commenting here for nearly 4 years, I do know the preferences of you bloggers to a certain degree.

What surprises me is how come no one is shocked or asked how I remembered so much about the series I watched last Fall.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Drink lots of water and store up energy so not to cough more blood! xD

Will do, ma’am. I just caught off guard by how fast the catalogue showed up.

I would recommend drinking more blood instead. 😛

            • BlackBriar says:

And why would you recommend that, I wonder? 😉

  4. BlackBriar says:

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works: Finally a chance to see why this particular series is acclaimed in the anime community that its created borderline cults (And I’m sure Metanorn is being run by one of the cult leaders. Don’t tell her I said that!) There was a time I was inclined to check out a previous version from DEEN but was passionately persuaded by hardcore Type-Moon fans to abandon such thoughts as if to do so would be an act of blasphemy. So, I heeded their warning and waited for this. Fate/Zero was great so hopefully Stay Night will raise the bar. And knowing it’s a split cour, there’ll be breathing room from the upcoming awe.

Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo: Another product from Sunrise. Since previous works like Valvrave and Buddy Complex, I’d say I’ve built an immunity to almost any absurdity they can throw. Mechs piloted by women seemingly in their late teens fighting dragons? Bring it on! That’s actually something new being brought to the table so I’m willing to give it a shot. The downside is going to come from a handful of prudes because I can practically already hear the unnecessary and futile bitching over the girls’, um… unique battle wear.

Selector Spread WIXOSS: All aboard the card based suffering train once again. The run of the first half was unexpectedly good and dark with psychological trauma in tow. Especially, when it’s about a game that turns to have more low than highs when played and you’re screwed whether you win or lose. Plus, calling the penalties and conditions “harsh” is putting it mildly. Not to mention how ominous sounding the anime’s titles are. From “Selector Infected” to “Selector Spread”. One would swear an epidemic has surfaced.

Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle: More Chaika is always a pleasure and last season’s cliffhanger ending left me wanting more while raising more questions than answering them. Vivi suddenly bleaching out to join the Chaika brigade definitely caught some attention. The second season can’t start soon enough.

Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu: Sounds like Vividred Operation and every other anime that focuses on young girls using advanced technology to save the world. If this is to buy time until Senki Zesshou Symphogear S3 comes along, I might be inclined to oblige by watching.

Psycho-Pass 2: Two years it took for a sequel to made. About damn time if you ask me. A dystopian civilization is such a cautious place to live in. One where a person can easily be labeled a latent criminal and have the rest of their life screwed up is nothing to sniff at. Still, nostalgia greets now that Akane Tsunemori is returning and from the PV, she’s become even more badass than where last season left off. Like many others, I’m curious as to where things continue. We have a few returns like Ling Tosite Sigure once again handling the OP and EGOIST with the ED. Even Takahiro Sakurai is back but as a different character. The torment it will be hearing his voice and not think of that magnificent bastard Shougo Makishima.

Sword Art Online II vs. Log Horizon because they’re on the same season. Wow, I never thought I’d a line-up like this. It will be a no-holds barred match with the OP ladies’ man brute (Kirito) against the OP ladies’ man strategist (Shiroe) and neither will be backing down. Personally, I’m remain neutral when choosing a side as both series have things that are likable about them.

Since this is the final season of the year, it’s likely to fly by quicker than we think. Fine by me because when Winter 2015 arrives, I’ll be getting me some Durarara!!x2, a second season of Aldnoah.Zero along with hopefully the Prisma Illya follow up: Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 2wei Herz!.

    • Foshizzel says:

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works I want more Rin! I don’t really care all that much for Shirou cause he always came off as the SUPER KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR and he was really protective of Saber which annoyed me with the original Fate/Stay Night so I really hope they change that aspect of him or is that just what the character is all about? Whatever I heard Rin is the main focus anyway at least I hope…

Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo looks alright I do find it funny how Sunrise is digging for the next big hit mecha series by mashing their mechs with whatever genre they feel like! I know there is a Idolm@ster series that has mechs, but that is not music themed so just wait one of these seasons Sunrise will create a new Love Live group and combine that with some giant robots! Maybe like a Macross type? I would support that.

WICOSS: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I NEED MOAR! I just loved the addictive mystery of the first half that kept me guessing until the very end and boy does that series know how to throw you a curve ball! Especially the end? Who knew that was going to happen? I hope we get more WTF moments in the second season.

Chiaka: At first I wasn’t a fan because of Chiaka’s speech pattern, but after a while I found it to be fun to listen too! So ya more of that and more loli dragon stuffs please.

Psycho-pass 2: I am curious to see how things go down I did hear a possible rumor that Kogami will come back to take out the sybil system since he knows the truth which would put him against Akane or he would help her from the sidelines without being the focus of the series until the final three or four episodes! That and they have a brand new team with Akane so I expect them to have the whole case of the week for the first ten episodes.

SAO V LH: Yeah GGO will probably wrap up just as LH starts back up! I have already stated my views on this but I prefer the team aspects in LH which feels more like a real MMO to me, but I know a lot of people prefer the SAO formula of one dude saving the day by himself.

Winter yes! I can’t wait for more Durarararararara <3

You shall be converted to the Church of the Nasuverse. Have you been seeing people in priestly suits lately lurking outside your house? Or nuns with glasses eating curry stalking you?

      😛

      • Kyokai says:

Jouji Nakata in Kirei cosplay will get you, just like he got me on twitter today! 😀

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

Mai Heeero~~~ *heart* The scary thing is I can exactly imagine how he says that line IRL.

We shall have Mapo Tofu tonight!

        • Foshizzel says:

Whoa he tweeted back at you?! AWESOME Kyo is the best~

          • Kyokai says:

YEP. I was kyaaaaaaa’ing like a school girl. BEST moment on Twitter for me. xD

            • BlackBriar says:

For some reason, I don’t doubt that you squealed like a school girl. 😉 A person that famous sending a reply, of course most people would lose themselves.

        • BlackBriar says:

どの位嫉妬をこれにより引き起こしているか考えを有するか。Avez-vous une idée combien de jalousie ceci cause? (Do you have any idea how much jealousy this is causing?)

          • Kyokai says:

Aaaaah, I’d never thought he would EVER because well, seiyuu and other Japanese Production staff usually do not pay attention to the English speaking crowd on twitterverse but aaah, one of my luckiest days! 😀

        • belatkuro says:

I need to make a Twitter account. Brb.

          • Kyokai says:

            About dang time! xD

          • BlackBriar says:

            Talk about motivation! 😀

            • Kyokai says:

There’s a LOT of juicy stuff you guys miss out on just because you are not there. Junichi Suwabe’s account is awesome. Tonight both Mariya Ise and MeguHan are quite active because well, last episode of HxH. It’s fun to be on twitter and get their comments as they happen. 😉

            • Irenesharda says:

Don’t remind me about the last episodes of HxH. T_T I just got into that show last month and now it’s already ending!

            • Kyokai says:

It had such an amazing ending. Why there is no more?! Chimera arc was my favourite; what was yours?

            • Irenesharda says:

The York New City arc was my favorite. I loved parts of the Chimera arc but it went a little too long and some parts of it were way too sad and dark for me.

  5. JPNIgor says:

Wooo, it’s that time of the year again! \o/ Waku waku.

Well, this is what is on my plan to watch. Every season I plan on lowering my anime count but I just can’t -.-‘

Hitsugi no Chaika 2 – With a cliffhang like that, who could not watch it after watching the first season? Too many unanswered questions…

Log Horizon 2 – Another sequel I’ve been looking forward to. Such a great worldbuilding. And that’s because they are exploring only the Japan side of things. What is there are more players trapped around the world?

Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis – Overcooled totally succeeded in selling this show. The seiyuu does look awesome and MAPPA’s latest works are great overall. I don’t know about the director because I didn’t watch Tiger & Bunny but people tell wonders about it, so I’m totally on the ride.

Amagi Brilliant Park – Well, I can’t really let myself miss any KyoAni shows. Whenever they do whatever for whoever, I can’t help but think it’s awesome and Free! is a good proof. If it’s listed as a romance, then all the better.

Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai – Don’t really know why I picked this up. It’s like that random show that has to be in my list, pretty much like Rail Wars was last season. Hope it’s better than the later, though.

Denki-gai no Honya-san – Man, Doraemon and Shin-chan were two of the few shows that I watched in Japan when I was a kid, so I can’t allow myself to miss it. I’m not sure if I will get everything, unless they put references of recent shows, but if it is any funny as Shin-chan, then it’s great.

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso – Really, noitaminA block has improved a lot since Samurai Flamenco (that was a traumatic experience, really…) and it’s so beautiful, and it’s music, I love music. And Goosehouse, really? I loved their ending “Oto no Naru Hou e” for Silver Spoon *-* And I ended up spending quite a lot of time listening to their songs on their youtube channel… Also, I just watched the first season of Honey and Clover, and I’m not really sure if they have the same vibe…

Sora no Method – Well, cute characters show of the season. Don’t really know much about it either, so that’s it.

Grisaia no Kajitsu – Not really sure what it’s all about either, except that people love the VN. Don’t mind some harem either.

Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji – Sadist main guys is a shoujo trope? God I didn’t know about that. Mainly hoping that the nice guy who is actually sadist is actually a nice guy, as the tropes says.

Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru – Er… Nice character design? It’s like the red-haired girl from Jinsei taking center stage and making everything about that weird hero of hers… Hope it’s not.

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works – Not really sure. Why? Because all I’ve ever watch Fate-related was Illya’s magic girl spinoff and the first episode of FSN, and god, I felt at a huge loss. So many things happening, none of them explained at all, I simply dropped and forgot all about it. So, will it be any different? Do I have to watch the previous ones to get anything out of UBW?… Also, who is ufotable again?

Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de – RomCom? Supernatural? Chuunibyou-like plot? Of course, I’m in.

Psycho-Pass 2 – FINALLY! This couldn’t have dragged on any longer! I can’t get enough of Urobutcher, seriously. He just made my brain melt with A/Z =.=

World Trigger – Well… Nice looking characters… Not sure what’s going on at all, but looking forward for some reason.

Akatsuki no Yona – Picked this up mainly because I’m curious with how the relationship between the princess and the bodyguard develops.

Kiseijuu – Probably that weird anime I have to pick up to give me the creeps. Everything in the trailer looks so creepy and the tension of having any of the characters suddenly become a horrible monster is like a thrill ride. And Madhouse. Yep.

Yowamushi Pedal 2 – They simply made whoever watched the first season feel that watching the second season is mandatory with a cliffhanger like that. You DON’T DO IT ok? You finish your races before ending the darn season, ok? Don’t do it again!

Shirobako – Yaay, P.A. Works show of the season. I’d actually rather it had romance, but well, high school girls making anime can be good, right?

Well, that’s it. Pretty good looking season, huh?

    • Foshizzel says:

Hitsugi no Chaika 2: YES! Chiaka happy more episodes! DO WANT <3

Log Horizon 2: I am so freaking excited to see my favorite team tackle the problem of being stuck in a game without the need to freak out and panic~

Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji: That looks really funny and it reminds me of Ao Haru Ride's character design mixed in with Gekkan Shoujo's facial expressions! I really hope it can make me laugh.

Yowamushi Pedal 2: Yay more bike riding bros! I can't wait to see more racing.

      • JPNIgor says:

I like SAO (I know you don’t), but Log Horizon has an edge because everything Kirito is (or they try to make him be) is distributed to many characters. Shiro being strategic and highly smart is more awesome because Kirito being smart and strong at the same time seems kind of weird.

Now that you mentioned, it really does look like Ao Haru Ride’s character design, though it’s actually done but Itazura Kiss’ character design. I think Gekkan Shoujo’s facial expressions are more unique.

    • skylion says:

I look forward to your comments JP when I cover Chaika! So much more fun to be had.

And…Sora no Method. I’m committed to covering it pretty much based on what we all have seen. So I hope to see you there as well.

      • JPNIgor says:

See ya! Though Sora no Method seems to be the kind of anime you just watch and have no idea what to comment on besides “oh they are so adorable!” haha

    • Kyokai says:

On KimiUso, Honey and Clover was a romance drama of young adults, while this one is for fourteen-year-olds so you can’t have that level of maturity but there are few similar themes. To me the wonder I felt in Yuta when he realized he loved Hagu, was similar to the MC looking at the violinist girl.

      On Fate/stay night: UBW, STAY AWAY FROM THAT DEEN SHOW. You really did good in not watching after episode one. It would be great if you could watch Fate/Zero before UBW but even if you don’t you can just read about the premise I posted below for Irene and get a feel of what it’s about. It is NOTHING like Prisma Illya at all, which is more of a crazy spinoff story related to Magical girls. There is no magical girls in Nasurverse. Amen to that. >>;

      • skylion says:

        ::zing:: Did someone call me?

      • JPNIgor says:

Well, to me, that’s traditional love at first sight. If you could compare these two shows looking at it that way, then KimiUso is similar to so many shows out there.

So, Fate/Zero would be a prequel to FSN? Probably gonna watch it, to… So many praises going for it after all.

And yeah, I’m aware of the fact that Prisma Illya is a spinoff. A cute, loli-filled spinoff that skylion above me loves hahaha =D

  6. Hoshi says:

~Fall is really weak this year, at least for me. Summer season had some good stuff so Fall in comparison is looking pretty meh.

All I’m here for is for more Yowapdeal (ONODA MY BABY) and WIXOSS. World Trigger looks pretty cool though.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah if I look at the core of the fall season it really seems rather weak especially when you look back at the summer season which had tons of great stuff to watch and it seems that the majority from the fall season is all about those returning shows which is fine cause just like you I need more Yowapedal and WIXOSS in my life!

    • BlackBriar says:

Fall is really weak this year, at least for me. Summer season had some good stuff so Fall in comparison is looking pretty meh.

That’s funny when you think about it. Because it’s usually the complete opposite every year. I do believe we’ve encountered a significant shift.

We do have sequels of familiar series to tide us over if all else fails but we’re sure to find some hidden gems somewhere in this season’s bunch.

  7. Di Gi Kazune says:

skylion is a sucker for any show with cute LOLis and vibrant colours. period.

You might want to doublecheck this but information is that Studio Deen is doing Log Horizon as oppose to Satelight.

    Am going to watch:
Unlimited Adventures of Gil and Kirei. Being Lancer is suffering. Also, LOLi says “Watashi no ROUTE!” I expect more GARcher commentary from now on. Everybody say: I AM GAR FOR ARCHER!

    *skims through the catalouge*
    Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 2wei! First Bra – Illya-hen

So that is what I’ll get with my BD… skylion may not have it! 😛

That is it??!! To quote Hoshi above:

~Fall is really weak this year, at least for me.

One pick and nothing else… This is bad. Maybe… just maybe… wixoss. Only have to speedwatch the first season.

    • BlackBriar says:

skylion is a sucker for any show with cute LOLis and vibrant colours. period.

I know right? It’s what keeps him going, his life force. Without LOLis, I dare say he’d suffer intense withdrawal and odds are that it wouldn’t be pretty. 😀

      • skylion says:

I would liken it to Marvel Comic’s old Dark Phoenix Saga…

        • Irenesharda says:

Oooh, good taste, If you can’t tell from my avatar, one of my favorite sagas, of my absolute favorite X-woman. 😉

          • skylion says:

I had to play catch up in back issues for that story, as it wasn’t until 1983 or 84 that I started reading X-Men. But for that era, my favorite will always be Kitty Pryde.

            • Irenesharda says:

I have to just read the essential giant collection sets, since I didn’t get into X-men until I watched the 2000 movie. ( I wasn’t born till the late 80s so most of the really good stuff had come out way before then) Kitty’s okay, but she was only a teen girl most of the time I read her. I prefer the woman members, Phoenix, Rogue, and Storm in that order. For guys, well Gambit is my favorite, then Cyclops, then Wolverine, simply because he’s hilarious.

    • Foshizzel says:

Ooooh trust me we know all about DEEN taking over for Satelight for Log Horizon 2 and it makes me a bit uneasy, but the team for the original is back so that made me feel better about the switch.

Yeah WIXOSS is great it always keeps you wanting more and the drama! Oh YES THE DRAMA is wonderful! #DelciousTears

Personally I recommend that you give some of the fall season a test run by trying a few of the first few episodes! I mean you never know some of them might surprise you.

I guess it makes me a bit sad when I see people say aw man nothing looks good this season! I sort of feel that is impossible to say when you have like 30+ series coming out, but I know we all have our preferences so it can’t be helped.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Rather than the studio, I’m more apprehensive about LH being 26 episodes with THREE (5-8) LNs available. From Season 1, it was one episode per chapter so unless the author churns extra books before the end of December it is going to end up either 1) using the side stories or 2) *shudder* original material. LH is on the watchlist which somehow was omitted in the original post but I am willing to drop it halfway if they do an Inuyasha. ie. watched 43 episodes of it, then immediately dropped it because they went off the manga train tracks.

Wixoss I might start out since my cravings for Gen’ei Taiyou was never satisfied. I need my dose of corrupted LOLis.

Personally I recommend that you give some of the fall season a test run by trying a few of the first few episodes!

That is what you guys are for! 😛

And skylion must watch UBW… and literally watch his heart get ripped out if you get the pun. 😛

        • skylion says:

          …I have been spoiled..

        • belatkuro says:

And skylion must watch UBW… and literally watch his heart get ripped out if you get the pun. 😛

Oh yeah, that was in UBW. Coming off from 2wei, that’s surely going to be a shock. Oh boy.

          • skylion says:

            …4chan is merciless….

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

It is kinda ironic though if you read the ending of 2wei/read 3rei and see the irony of him being around…

In another Nasuverse… Illya didn’t fare so well with young shotas… T_T

            • Kyokai says:

Good thing out of this. AT LEAST Lancer would be around enough to become the BRO of the show. I’m looking forward to that.

  8. AllenAndArth says:

so many! down with the college! i’ll see them all(go pokemon, you’re still my favorite T-T even if Ash is hypothetically 17, while being still 10 years!)…okay, i won’t see ALL of them, but…i’ll certainly see most of them

    • Foshizzel says:

Yep only watch what you can that is how I always do it every season, but sometimes you just gotta drop certain shows if they become dull or boring.

      • BlackBriar says:

Out of curiosity, what is your usual drop rate every season? Five or six shows, at least or maybe less?

        • Foshizzel says:

Mine? I usually do the three episode rule or lately it depends what episode one does I dropped Rail wars, Love Stage, DRAMAtical Murder, Bakumatsu Rock, Nobunaga Concerto, Seirei Tsukai no Kenbu: Blade Dance and Shounen Hollywood…

          • Highway says:

I dunno if it counts as a drop if you watch one episode and don’t continue, does it?

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Technically, it does though people would consider it to be a “taste-taster”…

            • BlackBriar says:

It can count on occasions if it’s the first episode of a series that doesn’t fall within one’s interest or just really rubs them the wrong way. Glasslip, Ao Haru Ride, Barakamon, Jinsei, Hanayamata and others like those for Summer 2014, to me, weren’t interesting and presented no appeal and trash like Daimidaler, Ace of Diamond and Samurai Flamenco rubbed me the wrong way.

            • Highway says:

I guess if it logs it on my MAL list, then I stop watching it, I have to give it some classification, either On-hold or Dropped. But I don’t think that’s necessarily an indication of quality of show. Sometimes it is, sometimes it’s just fit.

          • BlackBriar says:

I take it they weren’t that good because excluding Rail Wars which I followed to the end and Blade Dance which is on my backlog list, I didn’t even bother with the others you mentioned. Looks like I saved myself a lot of spare time.

            • Highway says:

Don’t backlog Blade Dance. If you haven’t watched it, just let it go.

            • skylion says:

…and HWY just wrote my Series Review…thanks!

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Drop it and go read the LN if you want story. The only thing the anime has over the LN is prettier character designs and swords. And Scarlet because… A CAT IS FINE TOO!

Quickly to just complete Highway’s review. The problems with it:
              1) Every intermission is ecchi and end up with Kamito being flamb’ed. It gets tiresome. You can speedread those scenes while reading.
              2) Very slow buildup. If this is indeed 12/13 episodes, it will NOT get to the blade dance which is where it gets more interesting and things get revealed. We are talking at least LN8 and above.

However, the adaptation is rather faithful to the original work. This is coming from someone who ran though 13 volumes in 3 days.

Artwise, it is an upgrade from the original work but compared to its peers, it lies neutral. The rest of the production values are nothing special nor terrible.

So right now, I’m going to plow through it and finish it because Scarlet is the flaming cat that is keeping me going! (Nyaa~~! E:3)

            • skylion says:

…and Di Gi gives first comment…

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

And just to counterpoint skylion and add stuff that I missed out earlier:

Seirei Tsukai suffers from the same uncohesiveness as Date-A-Live. DAL LN also starts becoming more interesting once you get into 4+ although it may get dry at times. Being the Kotori, Kurumi and Yoshino fanperson, DAL2 offered little interest in terms of Miku and the Yagami sisters. I think somewhere in the DAL2 archives here I have made my justifications. However, the OP is catchy.

HOWEVER, DAL2 still is overall more intersting than Seirei Tsukai because:
              1) It uses a sprinkling of ecchi to spice up the show rather than make it a selling point.
              2) It develops the relationships between the characters much quicker, as a result of less of ecchi focus. For the Rinslet fans out there, her character building takes place in -volume 13-. Quite slow for a character who was literally the 3rd main character to be introduced. (Kamito, Claire, Rinslet, Est – maids and cats do not count)

              (This makes countdown 3)

            • AllenAndArth says:

Mahouka, seirei tsukai(which is not up my expectations, considering the LN) and SAO 2
these are the only one’s i had patience to see…but this fall, i’m going to heal *0*

  9. Soliloquy says:

I’m rather surprised there are quite a few anime for me to watch.

    Hitsugi No Chaika
    Fate/Stay Night UBW
    Daitoshokan No Hitsujikai
    Sora No Method
    Yuukiyuuna Wa Yuusha De Aru
Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de
    Gundam G no Reconguista
    Madan no Ou to Vanadis
    Shirobako
    Akatsuki no Yona

That’s like the biggest list of shows I see in one season.

    • Foshizzel says:

Fufufufu great list of shows you got there and I love seeing that most of us are going to give Gundam G no Reconguista a shot! That makes me very very happy <3

  10. Irenesharda says:

Well, another season has come and gone. And now to the Fall, I wish they hadn’t had so many good options this season. I’m back in school and this is going to be hard. 🙁

    My list so far is:

Akatsuki no Yona (I’ve been a sucker for this kind of series since Fushigi Yugi 😛 )

Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo (It’s Sunrise and mecha…I’m almost obliged to give it a shot.)

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works ?

Garo: Honoo no Kokuin (Looks cool and I like the storyline, let’s just hope it doesn’t turn out like that Crappy Nobunaga the Fool mecha trash that was out a couple seasons ago.)

Gugure! Kokkuri-san (Looks cute and pretty funny.)

Gundam: G no Reconguista (It’s Gundam, ’nuff said. (and not the little kid toys either. 😛 )

Nanatsu no Taizai (Sounds interesting, and I like fantasy.)

Orenchi no Furo Jijou (hot guys, mermen, fujoshi bait? What more can a girl want? 😀 )

    Psycho-Pass 2?

Fate/Stay Night is a maybe because I’ve never seen any of the Fate series before and I tried to get into Fate/Zero, but I couldn’t even get through the first half of the first episode. That universe just seems so convoluted and full that I already felt lost. I’m wiling to try again, but I’m not too sure.

As for Psycho Pass 2, that just depends on if I get through Psycho Pass 1 in time. 😛

    • Irenesharda says:

Oh, I forgot to add Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis (love the animation and action scenes and the plot sounds good).

    • BlackBriar says:

Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo (It’s Sunrise and mecha…I’m almost obliged to give it a shot.)

After previous passable works like Valvrave and Buddy Complex, why not give it a shot? Its premise sounds interesting enough already.

As for Psycho Pass 2, that just depends on if I get through Psycho Pass 1 in time. 😛

Don’t worry. Psycho-Pass isn’t premiering until October 9th so there’s more than enough ample time to marathon through season 1. And I can tell you, there are some real sick puppies in the show. I’m particular stuck on a certain black haired girl who fancies herself an “artist”.

      • JPNIgor says:

Dat black-haired girl =.=’ Sicko, srsly.

        • BlackBriar says:

Yeah, her method of killing her victims was out of the box and cringe worthy. All while believing it was for a greater purpose. Among Makishima’s many pawns in his schemes, she stood out the most for me. Too bad she never met an end similar to what she inflicted on innocent bystanders.

          • Kyokai says:

Voiced by the amazing Noto Mamiko. Brilliantly done!

          • Irenesharda says:

Umm, how sick and twisted is it? Are we talking Tokyo Ghoul 1st episode levels of disturbing? Monster levels of disturbing? Shiki operating room levels of disturbing? What? Because that may determine if I continue with this thing…

            • BlackBriar says:

Don’t worry, not near Tokyo Ghoul. In a nut shell, think of it as House of Wax level of sick and twisted. Only far more depraved. Even more disturbing, the one responsible feels they’re contributing to society with their “works”.

            • Kyokai says:

Good thing, it has to blatant gore like Tokyo Ghoul but there’s disturbing elements alright. Though, I have a feeling you’ll like the world building, that’s where the real Urobutcher money is.

    • Foshizzel says:

Cross Ange: Same I am a sucker for Sunrise and mecha so just like you I feel obliged to at least TRY them! I know Sunrise is not working on the other mecha I watch, but I am still watching Shirogane no Ishi: Argevollen and M3: Sono Kuroki Hagane I don’t know if you stuck around for those and they are got better over time…well they took a while LOL

Wooooooooooo more Gundam! Yeah most people seem to favor Reconguista over build fighters, but I had a lot of fun with build fighters because the battle scenes were FANTASTIC to watch; however I know that is a hard sale for the die-hard Gundam fans who want real mech on mech action instead of toys. Anyway I really hope that Reconguista does better than AGE because that was the last official 50+ series that they worked on and WOW that turned out really bad for me and a lot of other fans.

      • BlackBriar says:

I am still watching Shirogane no Ishi: Argevollen and M3: Sono Kuroki Hagane I don’t know if you stuck around for those and they are got better over time…well they took a while LOL

I’m still watching those. A shame most people bailed after the first couple of episodes because they’re really underrated series. I’m particularly into M3 because it’s creepy, making for a good enough ghost story. The Lightless Realm is a place I definitely don’t want to find myself in. One of the best parts was in episode 19 when that arrogant bastard scientist Natsuiri finally got his much deserved punishment. Even better that it was by the hands of the girl who trusted him and he betrayed her.

        • Foshizzel says:

Yeah M3 is definitely underrated that is true, but it also sufferers from a bit of bad writing as well so I can see that turning people away and its quite screwy what happens to half of the main cast! I hope the ending isn’t to “happy” cause it just wouldn’t fit the tone they have built up around the series so far.

          • BlackBriar says:

its quite screwy what happens to half of the main cast!

“Screwy” is putting it mildly. Either becoming Necrometal and corroding slowly until you die or become a life-sized battery called a LIM for a mech in an attempt to prolong what’s left of your life. Neither outcome I’d find pleasant.

            • Kyokai says:

I think I put it on hold at episode 2 or 3. Should I bother with this or drop it altogether? Does things make sense in the end or its just screwy without any meaning?

            • BlackBriar says:

The situation gets creepier and more dire as the story continues. Even if this is a little spoiler, at episode 19, you’ll see that seems separate from one thing to another, everything will come full circle, along with some devine retribution. Another reason, just watch it for how increasingly dangerous the Lightless Realm is. And guess what? nano is the one singing the second ED for the series.

      • Irenesharda says:

I gave up on M3, but I’m still watching Argevollen and it’s getting very good. I’m glad I stuck with it.

I gave up on AGE after two episodes, so if Reconguista doesn’t go over well, I’ll drop that too. The PV looks pretty good so, I’m optimistic. In fact more optimistic than I was before. Hopefully, it’s good.

Cross Ange looks silly, but the plot sounds interesting. We’ll see.

    • skylion says:

I think the Fate world is meant to be convoluted….part of the story is picking that knotted skein apart…So I’m rather looking forward to it. All in all, after you get past some of Fate/Zero’s esoterica it all become much more straightforward. The last half is gold in drama.

      • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I have seen the original Fate/Stay Night well DEENs version anyway and I remember Shirou being super protective over Saber fighting which resulted in him getting hurt quite often lol.

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

          Shirou’s favourite phrase: “SAAABEEER!”
Every time he opens his mouth he is shouting: “SAAABEEER!”
Which has become as annoying as “ughuu”
Besides, Saber is a knight and Shirou is the damsel in distress. It is a knight’s job to protect the damsel… or is it impinging on Shirou’s masculinity?

          • Kyokai says:

Similar to Saber’s favourite line: EXCALIBAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

Though, in UBW, there will be MOAR damsels in distress and some badass damsels as well so yeah. xD

      • Irenesharda says:

I wish there could be a single summary that makes sense of what the entire Fate world is about and who are all these characters I’m about to watch. I also don’t want this series to depend on the others. I don’t want to watch the first episode of this series and realize that because I didn’t watch every single Fate series before it, I will be lost the entire time. Nothing feels more frustrating than watching a series and finding out that there’s about 8 previous series worth of required viewing that you should have done before hand.

        • skylion says:

Someone will correct me, I’m sure. But UBW is is a complete story not dependent on /Stay Night. If there is bits of the latter series in, then it’s Easter eggs for fans…

          • Kyokai says:

Yep, that is correct. You can easily watch UBW after Fate/Zero and don’t miss a beat at all because the characters are the same. Only circumstances change and another tier of sub-plots are played around.

            • Irenesharda says:

So, I can’t watch it unless I’ve seen Fate/Zero? Only watched first episode up to title credit…

        • Kyokai says:

@ Irene, for a summary on FSN, let me give you a quick down low. I borrow from the FI post on Fate/zero:

The Holy Grail war started 200 years ago by three families: Einzbern, Tohsaka and Makiri (Matou). Their ultimate goal was to open a gate to Akasha (Akashik record is a recurring term in nasuverse) and gain miracles. However, this seeking the Holy Grail actually ended up making one of them victorious. This started the discord between these old magi families, not to mention when the Church and Magi Association heard of this miracle making machine they wanted in as well. So, now every 60 years at Fuyuki, seven mages gather with their summoned servants (heroes from every age and nation) to battle it out for the opportunity to power. The last one standing takes it all.

FSN is the Grail war after Fate/Zero and you don’t need to have any prior knowledge of it because background is given but knowing is always a bonus. So, even if you haven’t seen Fate/Zero, knowing the premise should put you in a good position to follow UBW.

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

            Even shorter summary, Hollywood style:

            SEVEN Masters…
            SEVEN Servants…
ONE Grail… and only ONE VICTOR!
(Disclaimer: Your mileage may vary and TM/ufotable will not be responsible for any loss of life, hair, bodilyparts, etc2 from watching this show)

            • Kyokai says:

This is so Hollywood. This might just be the movie teaser for HF. xD

            • Irenesharda says:

Oh, so it’s like Highlander in there can be only one? That’s makes even more sense now. Hollywood versions are always more to the point. 😛

          • Irenesharda says:

Thank you very much, that helped a lot. If I can squeeze it in, I will try to watch Fate/Zero now before this new Fate/Stay Night. It did look very pretty, and the music was amazing for the 5 minutes I saw of it.

            • BlackBriar says:

To give a little heads on what you’re going to confront, Fate/Zero has a total of 25 episodes and Psycho-Pass has 22. And both were handled by Gen Urobuchi. That’s a lot of binge watching if you want to get up to speed.

            • Irenesharda says:

Uhoh, my experience with Urobuchi is pretty small. I’ve seen 3 episodes of Madoka, Gargantia, and Aldnoah.Zero. I know that two of those he’s only had a small part of. So, I don’t know, am I in for a pretty depressing time if I try to do these two series back to back? Or is it just very intense? I was thinking of doing the 12 episode series rather than the 22 of Psycho-pass to save on time, but I guess binge viewing two two-cour shows back to back can be hard…

            • BlackBriar says:

I leave it to you to decide whether they’re depressing or not but they both are definitely worth the investment of time. The best suggestion I can give is, if possible, to watch as much as possible over a weekend where your schedule is free.

  11. zztop says:

NHK TV confirms Log Horizon 2 will have 25 episodes.

    • Foshizzel says:

      Awwweee yeah!

    • BlackBriar says:

That’s bringing in some mixed feelings. Good that it’s following the same amount as last season but skepticism surfaces because word is there isn’t enough material from LNs to warrant another 25 episodes. There are only 3 volumes in general if I recall correctly. So people are worried about an even slowing pacing than what was already exposed and possibly fillers coming in tow.

  12. Joojoobees says:

The ones I am most interested in checking out:

    – Shirobako
    – Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso
    – Sanzoku Musume no Ronja
    – Akatsuki no Yona
    – Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis
    – Garo: Honoo no Kokuin

A couple of these sound kind of stupid in a way, for example, Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis could have a bad plot since it is based upon a card game, but I think the artwork looks great.

Hey, we have a whole season of disappointments and unexpected surprises ahead of us once more.

    • Kyokai says:

Interesting list, more on romance and SoL but I’m not surprised. I hope KimiUso turns out to be good and same for Bahamut, even with a silly card game being its origin. D:

  13. anaaga says:

Orefuro and Donten. This is obviously a bad season to take a break, but oh well, real life. Oh and believe it or not, there is actually the BL OVA version of Orefuro. Similar characters too. But Donten NGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

Shikata Akiko is doing the music for Cross Ange, so I’m sold.

Overall, not much interest me. When there are so many anime. Just card games, harem, aliens, and another Fate franchise? It’s the usual routine in the anime world

  14. Sumairii says:

Who wants to see MetaFap again? =3

  15. Kyokai says:

New Bahamut PV is out. The character designer is same as Berserk movies so the similarity. Looks quite epic but not sure on plot yet:

    • JPNIgor says:

Looking awesome!!! And the song at the end is great too! \o/ Didn’t think I would look forward to this.

    • Irenesharda says:

It looks really good, it really gives me Final Fantasy vibes though. Maybe it’s all the monsters popping out and bahamut popping out, but yeah, I feel like I’m in one of the Final Fantasy games. 😛

I swear if Sephiroth pops up in here, I am so sold. 😀

      • Kyokai says:

Oh, you are a Sephiroth fan too? Final Fantasy Advent Children was one of the main reasons behind my return to being an animeholic again. :3

        • BlackBriar says:

I’m a Sephiroth fan as well. He’s the ultimate badass villain of the Final Fantasy franchise. I even have Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for PSP depicting his and Zack Fair’s beginnings when they both worked for Shinra.

My favorite quotes from Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children are: “On your knees. I want you to beg for forgiveness”, “Tell me what you cherish most. Give me the pleasure of taking it away” and last but not least “I will… never be a memory”.

          • Irenesharda says:

Advent Children is the best, though the Complete version is even better. I love Sephi. It’s embarrassing how much art I have of him that I’ve bought from Cons. I really wish they had done a full anime of FFVII, though the small ova they did was very good.

Weirdly, I saw Advent Children before ever even looking at the game. My high school friends introduced me to him first after I had developed a love for Sesshoumaru. And that’s what really got me into anime. Before that, I only dabbled, with Digimon, Yugioh, and Inuyasha being the only shows I watched at the time. I actually didn’t finish the game until last year. 😛

Sephiroth is my fave, followed by Genesis, Vincent, Kadaj, Yazu, and then Cloud. Zack was pretty cool too, and I can’t forget Tifa. 😀

            • BlackBriar says:

I never saw the complete version of Advent Children but I do have the original on DVD. Stuff like that just feeds my love for anime/manga/video games.

My high school friends introduced me to him first after I had developed a love for Sesshoumaru.

Ah, so you have a thing for long silver haired, somewhat stoic badass villains/anti-heroes with swords of ridiculously insane proportions (Both have swords of a really great length). Nice discovery. Now I know what you’re into besides vampires.

            • Irenesharda says:

You got it! I have a natural attraction to guys with long hair, even in real life, but on the printed page? ^_^ Love it. And I prefer those with silver/white/platinum blond (weirdly black works too sometimes, like with Vincent) and can are calm and collected badasses that are either anti-heroes or villain protagonists. I find anti-heroes much more complex than good or bad guys. Those two can be 1D if not done correctly, but it’s hard to make an anti-hero 1D since they have to walk the line between good and evil.

They don’t have to have swords, guns are okay too, or claws if they are supernatural. What’s important is personality. They have to be pretty intelligent and probably the most deadly guy in the series. I also would like it if they have some relation to the protagonist, such as a family member or best friend. If a show has a character that has all that, I’m totally in, even if the MC is crap, I’ll still have someone to watch. 😀

            • akagami says:

No love for Yuffie??? She was my fav, followed by Vincent, Tifa, and then Cloud. Advent Children made me like Rufus ^_^. I don’t know how I feel about Sephiroth.

            • Irenesharda says:

Yuffie is cool too, just a but too bubbly for me. Never really cared for Rufus, but AC was able to make Reno cool for me. 😛

      • Irenesharda says:

I am so glad that I took a chance on this. I absolutely love it, and so far it has been my favorite premiere of the entire season. (and I think it may just keep that crown since I only have two shows left to premiere). I really wish that whoever did the PR and synopsis for this thing hadn’t stressed the “card games” part since I know many who were turned off by that. However, it seems to have NOTHING to do with cards and is pure fantasy/adventure. I think word-of-mouth is helping it. But this is really a great start to what looks like an epic series.

  16. zztop says:

Definitely watching Chaika. I want to see how this mystery wraps itself up.

May look at Yona, Kokkuri, and Gundam G. Anything else is just browsing.

    • BlackBriar says:

Definitely watching Chaika. I want to see how this mystery wraps itself up.

There’s also anticipating what other colored Chaikas the series hasn’t shown yet.

  17. skylion says:

Complete goofiness by me, but Chaika. Old Top Gear program about Soviet Era cars…the Chaika is one, about three minutes in…

    • JPNIgor says:

Hmmm… Mass produced cars meant to be equal for an “equal” society. It strangely fits with what the Chaikas are in the anime.

      • skylion says:

GAZ Automotive also made the Volga…which were stereotypical KGB autos. I wonder if that’s an upcoming character name?

  19. Namika says:

This season is quite bleak in my opinion. Aside from Psycho-Pass 2 theres nothing in particular that im excited about. I’ll watch Kiseijuu, and Shirogane, and maybe try some random shows that will seem interesting but … everything looks like the same, generic stuff. Nothing notable.
I’m saving Fate/Zero for sometime in the future, so its out of the question this season. Gotta have some marathon material 😀

    • Namika says:

Shirogane…… RLY? -_- I should play less and start focusing on other stuff as well
