Metanorn Readers’ Choice Awards 2013 Nomination Call

Nominations-2013-main2

Update: Deepest apologies from the organizers because we could not finish the polls on time and it became too late for actual launch.

Another year is over and done with and that means it is now time for exciting awards on Metanorn and just like last year we are ready to take in your nominations! I hope you are prepared to rack your mind and if you need help finding out what aired in 2013, check out our list under spoiler tags of this post.

—————————————

Where has 2013 gone to?! It was just a blur for me when I think about it but while compiling the list of series and movies that released last year, I have to say, it was very happening. However, that is usual with many developments with new studios, creative staff and talent enriching the industry. But of course, depending on what you like, this opinion can be different, which is totally fine! This pretty much sums up the purpose of our awards to know Metanorn’s readers’/lurkers’ personal taste to arrive at a popular consensus rather than just the team members pitching in only. We’d rather have a larger range than us.

Therefore, I’ll keep this one short, so let me lay the groundwork quickly. We are following the same framework as last year but with less awardsYou have twenty awards to nominate choices for, broken down into four major categories as below. You can nominate five choices maximum for each award (minimum is up to your preference). This post will be active till 18th January, 2014, after which we will publish category-wise polls for voting. Do note some additional pointers:

  • We are only considering anime that finished airing in 2013. Therefore, all carry-over shows from Fall’13 will not be considered and their nominations will not be accepted.
  • As most of us do not live in Japan, we get to watch the movies after their DVD/BDs are released. Thus, our list comprise of movies whose DVD/BDs have been released in 2013, including the titles that were not included in 2012 movie nominations.
  • If our list is missing out a series/movie that you want to nominate, which follows above criteria, please ping us in the comments and we will update accordingly.

Now, get those nominations coming in per category and award. I would also like to encourage our lurkers to de-lurk and participate in this once-a-year activity. Let’s get set go!

  1. Namika says:

Yohooo~ ^_^ I love these year-ender polls that you make. It’s always interesting to see the results, though almost always there’s only a couple of shows that completely dominate over all others. I wonder, which one will do that this year?? ^_^ 😀
    So, my nominations are:

    Best opening
Jiyuu no Tsubasa (Shingeki no Kyojin)
Mr. Sadistic night (Diabolik Lovers and YES I liked it a lot =3=)
    Abnormalize (Psycho-Pass)
Take Your Way (Devil Survivor 2. This one grew on me, actually – at first I hated it)
Moshimi no Hanashi (Bakuman. Such a nostalgic opening TT^TT)

    Best Ending
Splash Free (Free! This song was stuck in my head for MONTHS.)
Sora to Kimi no Message (Suisei no Gargantia. It looks so beautiful ;_;)
    Maji Love 2000% (Uta no Prince-sama. YES I’m a fangirl 😀 )
Be (Devil Survivor 2. I fell in love with this ending from the first time I saw it. It’s just so…. Idk, regardless of being simple it was quite emotional)

    Best OST
Shingeki no Kyojin, Hiroyuki Sawano of course! Can someone argue that SnK’s BGM was anything less than magnificent? I don’t think so. You may think I’m just biased, which may be true to some degree but still. Shingeki no Kyojin’s OST was amazing.
Free! Light, crisp, echoing piano and a simple beat supporting it and voila! You have an image of water in your head O_O Free’s BGM was incredible, atmospheric and unique.
Psycho-Pass. I don’t listen to it a lot usually, but in the show itself the tracks were amazing. Creating exactly that unique, authentic aura the show needed.
Suisei no Gargantia. Again, sounds amazing, creates majestic, unique atmosphere. Not something I would listen to as often as I do to Free, SnK, FMA or Ao-Ex, but still amazing.

Staff category… well, I don’t have a lot to say here, other than Production I.G, because Psycho-Pass, Gargantia, Kuroko no Basket…. what else?? ^^
I’ll drop the seiyuu category, because I’m not watching seiyuus that closely anymore. I have some of my favorites and that’s enough for now. Though…. yeah, Yuki Kaji.

    Best Bishie
    – Rivaille/Levi (however it’s written. The point is the same. Heichooou~ :3)
    – Ryuugazaki Rei
    – Sakamaki Subaru (I love his pretty hair~ <3)

    What's a Bijin???? o-o JK. But I don't have any ^^"

Is being a medieval spiderman considered a super power?? ^^ Cuz I would say 3D maneuver gear.

    Best Villain – Makishima Shougo
Best Male Lead – Hachiken Yugo <3 and Ledo.
Best Female Lead – Tsunemori Akane All the way!

    Anime of the year:

    Shingeki no Kyojin
    Free
    Suisei no Gargantia
    Psycho-Pass
    Gin no Saji

All of these are amazing in their own way. But all of them sure are amazing alright 😀
I haven’t watched a lot of anime this year. O_O airing shows, at least. I seem to enjoy watching anime like that less and less. But on another note – it’s kinda good, because I didn’t have any trouble to choose which shows to mention 😀

    • BlackBriar says:

If only you could nominate all the music for Psycho-Pass and Attack on Titan. They would be easy choices to make.

Shougo Makishima for best villain all the way. Maybe you should add Rikako Ouryou. She may have been his temporary pawn but what she did during her rampage is enough for her to be considered a villain.

      • Namika says:

Or if we could combine those 2 into one nominee. 😀

Frankly speaking…. I didn’t think of her O_O Though I still prefer Shougo, she’s a very close runner-up. She’s definitely a villain, regardless of being his pawn. He just gave her resources to do whatever she wanted to, but couldn’t do. And she was so coldblooded and cool. But Makishima is way cooler Show ▼

  2. Namika says:

OMFG. I forgot about Wit Studio and KyoAni.

    • BlackBriar says:

Don’t worry. You’ve got until January 12th to modify your choices. There’s still time.

  3. akagami says:

    2013 Music
    Best Opening
Vividred Operation – ENERGY (Gattai! Ok ok, so there wasn’t any in the OP, but still ^_^. Cute and energetic OP).
    Runner-ups
Love Live! – Bokura wa Ima no Naka de (Idols dancing! The CG parts were a bit distracting though. Loved the song, the idols have good voices).
Girls und Panzer – Dream Riser (Go Ōarai! The OP got me excited for each episode~).
Servant x Service – May I Help You (Another catchy tune, and the animation, flash-freeze scenes? I don’t know what the official term is? was pretty neat).

    Best Ending
Not as much choice here, the following two were good songs, but lazy ED animation. Very lazy.
    Shinsekai Yori – Wareta Ringo
    Runner-up
Psycho-Pass – All Alone With You

    Best Original Soundtrack
Love Live! (No contest for me. So many good insert songs~~~~~~).

    2013 Special
    Best Loli
Monogatari Series: Second Season – Shinobu (If you need to ask, skylion needs to talk to you).
    Runner-up
    Unbreakable Machine-doll – Komurasaki (I want my own Komurasaki-ball!)

    Best Bishie
Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist – Shitori (So. Pretty. *ahh, my eyes, blinding*)

    Best Bijin
Hayate no Gotoku! Cuties – Hinagiku (HINAGIKU! HINAGIKU!)

    Best Super Power
Puchimas! Petit Idolmaster – Chibiki (Pokemon, I choose you!)

    Best Mecha
Kakumeiki Valvrave (Sunrise is always good for this. And there wasn’t much competition imho).

    Best MetaFap Show
High School DXD NEW (The original surprised me – I was expecting an average harem ecchi show – and the sequel didn’t disappoint!)

    2013 Final
    Best Male Supporting Role
Hataraku Maou-sama! – Ashiya Shirou (A loyal sidekick who will follow you into the unknown and try to smite taxis).

    Best Female Supporting Role
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S – Saten Ruiko (Down-to-earth, awesome, and great fashion sense! Second to only Sawa in Tari Tari)

    Best Villain/Anti-hero
Danganronpa Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei The Animation – Monokuma (Villain. No spoilers, so no comment. Top-notch, beats all others imo for 2013. The sheer evil and despair-invoking powers…)
Hataraku Maou-sama! – Maou Sadao (Anti-hero. Number 1 Demon Lord in my books).

Best Romantic Couple (Canon couples only)
Zetsuen no Tempest – Takigawa x Aika (I just love these two. !!##%**&@! :headdesk: :cries: “bookfacesmash:
    。・゚゚・(>д<)・゚゚・。)
    Runner-up
Yahari Ore no Seishun Rabukome wa Machigatteiru. – Hachiman + Yui (These two were pretty cute).

    Best Male in Leading role
Zetsuen no Tempest – Yoshino Takigawa (I’ve always liked Shakespeare. I can’t point out why exactly I like Takigawa, but he was definitely my favorite leading male for 2013).
    Runner-up
Mondai-Ji-tachi ga Isekai Kara Kuru sou Desu yo? – Sakamaki Izayoi (This guy is boss).

Best Female in a Leading role
Monogatari Series: Second Season – Senjougahara Hitagi (If you haven’t seen the series, please go watch it. Starting with Bakemonogatari).

    Anime of the Year
Wasn’t too impressed overall this year vs. previous years, so no clear winners for me.
Girls und Panzer (Panzer Vor! Cute girls in tanks. Actually turned out to be pretty good, despite the somewhat silly premise).
    Runner-ups
Zetsuen no Tempest (Really good, the only reason it didn’t rank higher was because I disagreed with the ending).
Hataraku Maou-sama! (Surprise hit for 2013 for me, was hilarious and fun to watch).

    Movie of the Year
Gekijouban Steins;Gate: Fuka Ryouiki no Deja vu (Movie to my favorite 1-2 cour show. While it could have used more Kyouma, it was still very, very good).

    • BlackBriar says:

Hmm, the only competition in the mecha department other than Valvrave for me would be Chamber from Suisei no Gargantia. Not much else to consider.

  4. skylion says:

There are lots of things I’ll just leave off. I don’t really like doing ordinals, I just don’t quite think in those terms. But I will give a few that I thought worthy of.

    Best Movie.

Psychic School Wars. This was the full throttle Aiura animation I wanted. It had to many lens flares, but I’ll forgive that. I enjoyed it immensely, as it seemed to let the time travel take a back seat to it’s consequences.

    Best Anime

    Shin Sekai Yori
    Non Non Biyori
    Tamako Market
    The Eccentric Family
    YZQ

    • skylion says:

But for me, my personal favorite was:

I loved it to bits and pieces and hope to see more.

    • JPNIgor says:

Screw the critics, Psychic School Wars was a great film and it clearly deserves this spot. Though Kotonoha no The Garden of Words is very close as well.

    • akagami says:

Hmmm, took me a while to figure out what Psychic School Wars was. I have Nerawareta Gakuen on my backlog waiting to be watched. Just haven’t got around to it yet (along with other movies such as Shinkai Makoto movies I haven’t seen, Hoshi no Koe, Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho, and Kotonoha no Niwa as well as Toki Wo Kakeru Shoujo (which I’ve been meaning to watch for some time)… oh, and the Strike Witches and Ao Exorcist movies). >_>. Yes I’m a slacker.

      • JPNIgor says:

Of course, having to have nearly two hours to watch something at once isn’t easy, but I really do recommend Nerawareta Gakuen and Kotonoha no Niwa. Actually, Kotonoha no Niwa is shorter, I guess less than one hour, so it would probably fit in anyone’s schedule. Try it out.

      • Highway says:

I’m terrible about watching movies, as well. I just don’t like sitting still for that long.

And..perhaps, Tatsuhisa Suzuki impressed me this year.
Miyano Mamoru did an awesome job as always.

    Best Female Seiyuu
Suegara Rie made a good start.
otherwise, I’m not a big “female Seiyuu” fan.
Well I really liked the lady, that voiced Hajime in Gatchaman Crowds.

The other nominations need too much time for me. So, I’ll just pass them.

    • BlackBriar says:

The deadline is on January 12th so you’re still in the clear. Choosing the OP was tough. If I had the chance, I’d put both OPs for Psycho-Pass and Shingeki no Kyojin.

      • Japaninspired says:

I still made it? that’s good to hear 🙂

It’s REALLY hard to choose, so I just stuck in all of my mose favorite OP’s of this year. I dont really think it’s possible to choose only one.

    • Sumairii says:

You’re still good. Deadline is Jan 12.

  9. lvlln says:

I’m a bit surprised that no one has submitted God Only Knows -Secrets of the Goddess- from The World God Only Knows: Goddesses Arc for best OP. Easily my favorite of the 3 OPs from that series, and one of my favorites this year.

    • akagami says:

For me S3’s OP didn’t really stand out that much. I preferred S1 and S2’s OP.

      • d-LaN says:

Personally, while the TV length OP is a decent song I find the full ver a bit too long and not so impressive.

    • Highway says:

I thought about it, but while I love it for what it is – prog rock, Saori Hayami, wonderfully topical – and I love listening to it, I really can’t justify it as best. But the long version is outstanding.

  10. d-LaN says:

Last min submission! Been busy this few days. I don’t have time to list everything down so I just hope at least this list made it.
