Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders S2 – 05

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 501

Polnareff’s Bizarre Adventure

For me personally, the second season of Stardust Crusaders has already outdone the entirety of the first season in the span of 5 episodes. Maybe it’s just recency bias, but I really liked the past few Stands here and how they’ve added juuust enough to spice up the bad guy of the week formula. Anubis will definitely stay in my memory for a while as one of the greats.

Watching this episode proved to myself that I’m just as gullible as Polnareff and Joseph, if not worse. The more I watch and blog about anime, the more I realize what a BIG, NAIVE SUCKER I AM. I thought the fight was over twice when it obviously (in hindsight) wasn’t. Twice. I was doubly fooled! In my defence, Anubis is an incredibly tricky Stand. It can phase through objects, possess anyone at one touch, and memorize past moves of opponents. Basically, it can do almost anything because it’s an overpowered god of death and the Joestar team needed something more challenging than a sentient puddle of water. I liked how each of these abilities was used to full effect to allow the battle to go from one stage to another where Anubis highlighted a multitude of tricks he had up his sleeves.

Classic

Stage 1 is a short-lived brawl with the barber. This one mostly just catches everyone off guard and reinforces how Anubis uses his knowledge transferal from host to host in order to learn all of his opponent’s moves. It’s like a Super Saiyan thing where after every fight and every loss, he just ends up stronger. That was a cool little addition that we wouldn’t have seen if Polnareff had just thrown the damned sword into the Nile in the first place and the fight ended then and there. But I’m glad he didn’t, because it meant we got to see some pretty cool tactical combat.

Stage 2 tripped me up. I had assumed by snapping off the tip of the sword, things would be fine. I had no idea Anubis had to be stopped by destroying every single portion of the sword. So I figured the fight was over and that the gang would continue onto the next event. Instead, I got an incredible multi-Stand fight with Jotaro against my favourite Frenchman. It was the perfect challenge for Jotaro since giving a fencer another sword is pretty much the best combination of Stands you could ever ask for. Plus, this is his buddy, so Jotaro can’t go for any lethal blows and just ora ora ora his way out of this.

Helicoptor mode ACTIVATE!

The fight quickly descends into chaos after Jotaro beats Polnareff and the fight STILL ISN’T OVER. Anubis takes over a kid, gets owned by Iggy, and then goes through a progressively hilarious series of events that send him into Davy Jone’s Locker. Poor guy. I almost felt bad at the end.

I like that Iggy has been there 99% to just fuck things up for bad guys in the most innocent and unintentional fashion. And to fart on Polnareff. We haven’t seen him really contribute much to a fight other than letting Jotaro throw him in someone’s face…and even then, he really, really would have preferred to not have that happen. It’s a weird role to fill as the “meddler” but it works well for him. I’m starting to like him now for the weird little quadropedal gremlin he is. He makes life miserable for people just by simply existing, and that’s really a special talent.

You know, I wouldn’t have gotten tired if Anubis would have actually had like a dozen fake saves on the way to the bottom of the Nile.

Yeah, Iggy is comic relief, not that the show really needs it that much, it pretty much brings it’s own absurdest mentality.

I could have watched that go on forever…

Iggy still feels very much like an extra we could do without…but I don’t mind him messing things up every now and then.

Sounds like there a lot of interesting things going on from what you’re saying. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get into this series. It just didn’t click with me. Same as when I tried the Bizarre Adventures, I couldn’t find anything to hold my interest. But all the best to those who are fans of this.

More importantly, I came to give you a link to something I know you’ll like: [IEgg] PSYCHO-PASS The Movie Theme Single – Who What Who What (Ling tosite sigure) (320K)

Yeah, Jojo isn’t for everyone. My boyfriend absolutely hates it and thinks I’m crazy whenever he sees me watching it.

Thanks! Gotta love ling tosite sigure’s unique style.

      • BlackBriar says:

No problem! Ling Tosite Sigure is pretty much the poster band for Psycho-Pass.

Overcooled: yoy should keep getting tricked by JoJo, you will have so much more fun that way. I think its safe to say that if watching these episodes makes you want to shout out like Joseph Jostar, than you are going to have a blast.

Next time on JoJo: Sexy Cat girl vs Foxy Grandpa!!!!!

It’s really fun this way! But then I have to admit it to everyone because I’m blogging the show and that gives everyone an opportunity to laugh at me lol

So hyped for a female Stand user. They’re so rare!
