Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders S2 – 04

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 401

Just your run-of-the-mill demonic sword.

Ah, now we’re back to villains who are a little more fearsome. This time, the gang is at least aware they’re in danger. At least, Polnareff is. It’s amazing how everyone tries to be careful of Dio’s minions, yet fails to notice the most obvious things like GOLDEN DEMON SWORDS.

Needless to stay, staying in pairs like elementary students picking buddies to go to the washroom with did not help Polnareff in the slightest. The Jojo gang is just absolutely horrible at figuring out how to avoid mortal peril. They get riled up about nothing and then let their guard down when the actual enemy comes knocking at their door. It’s a little frustrating, but it’s part of what makes the encounters a little more quirky. That’s how they get lulled into falling for all these elaborate traps. When an enemy Stand could range from a restaurant menu to a shoehorn to a grain of sand somewhere, it’s no wonder they’re so lax. If you were on guard for every little thing, they would have a nervous breakdown halfway through the journey. I still groaned when Polnareff let some random barber shave him with a super sharp razor though. That’s not even danger in disguise, that’s just danger!

Everyone in this show needs to stay farther away from pointy objects

Aside from everyone being absolutely horrible at reading warning signs such as flashy, demonic swords – the Anubis Stand is admittedly a very sly one. I like that it makes anyone who draws it into a Stand user, regardless of how garbage they are at fighting. Chaka is just a random guy who is dragged into all this after he “accidentally” kills his dad and friends. Think about how rough that it. He’s just a bystander, and in a day he murders his family, gets possessed by a sword, and ends up being impaled by a French man before he can revel in his newfound powers. He’s not a minion of Dio, just some abused boy who unfortunately stumbled upon the wrong sword.

Anubis is definitely a really neat Stand because it means that Polnareff won’t be safe until he gets rid of the actual sword. All Anubis has to do is find another host and then he’s got another user. It doesn’t even seem to matter what the host is like because he can make up for a lack of skill with his magic or whatever. So really, anyone who touches the sword could be a new enemy for Polnareff.

Anubis, wan wan~

Furthermore, it’s really neat that this Stand isn’t another being who fights separately from the user. So instead of sending out a Pikachu to fight in your place, you tape a Pikachu to your wrist and punch someone in the mouth with it. It puts the user in more danger, but it’s also really fucking cool. Plus, Anubis can just find a new host if the old one gets offed, so the lack of defense isn’t really a top priority. Add the ability to cut through matter and you’ve got a pretty cool fight. Funny how Polnareff gets so much attention that his fights use up more of the animation budget than Jotaro does. The swordfighting here looked fantastic even though it was brief. Plus, we saw Polanareff’s finishing move. Not the most exciting move, but it was revealed in such a dramatic way that I don’t mind it just being “throw your sword away in desperation.”

I’m actually really glad this is going to be a two-part fight. I think Polnareff is an infinitely more interesting character than Jotaro so I love that he gets so much screentime. Plus, he’s getting screentime with a really cool and powerful Stand. Some of the Stand ideas are hit and miss (I hated the dreamworld-using Death Stand from Stardust Crusaders part 1 so much) but this one is definitely a hit. I was hoping Polnareff would have to fight the killer barber while Jotaro naps, totally oblivious to his struggles. Unfortunately, the preview shows a very much awake Jotaro. Ah well, I doubt he’ll interfere much in a battle of swords (he doesn’t look like he’s being very helpful in the preview).

It looks so much better the way Polnareff bounces the sword off pillars…but he could have totally just thrown it straight at Chaka’s neck.

I sometimes wish I was an admin of the Speedwagon foundation on the ground with these guys. “Yo, let’s get a truckload o’ concrete! Anubis deserves a tomb!” Just sayin’!

I love how absurd the “sword without a wielder” just happen to go through that guys head…it’s horrible to LOL at that, but…just so goofy!

Par for course in JJBA….and that’s what makes it fun to watch, right?

I dunno…I don’t think I’d want to be traveling with these guys, Speedwagon foundation or no!

Yeah, I love how he just “Accidentally” drops the sword and it plunges into his dad’s heart. And then it just casually slices open another guy’s head. Definitely horrible to laugh at but I did anyways :3c

Admittedly, a barber with a sword that can phase through matter sounds like an awesome villain. And in JoJo that ridiculous idea gets 1 episode.

I believe we have 5 episodes till D’Arby, at which point you will learn just how much a man Jotaro is.

It should be noted that Chaka did survive his wounds. Khan the barber was also just a normal barber until Pol told him to put the Sword somewhere. Because Khan touched the Sword Anubis was able to posses him.

Anyway Anubis is a cool fight.

Yeah, he lived. Still REALLY SUCKS he got impaled in the neck after all that though. That’s gonna take a while to heal.

I’m enjoying the Anubis fight quite a bit. It helps that I’m actually familiar with that Egyptian god too.

It Seems Like Not All Stand Powers are…Humanoid Shape some of it are in the form of a objects like a sword (as we seen here), and a toy plane or perhaps um a Piano…

Now as for this, Hmmm, i see that poor boy chaka is just a peasant then…sort of…
