Vanadis: Their clothes definitely serve to distract the enemy. Anyone would definitely get distracted looking at Sasha’s lower half. Though the loli Vanadis in the OP is still the biggest offender when it comes to the Vanadis’ fashion sense. I mean, look at her.

And yeah, duels aren’t exactly popular in this story. Would save a ton of lives if armies just throw out their strongest warriors. But soldiers have to at least earn something or at least die honorably in battle rather than stand there. Muh honor, muh rewards and all that reasoning. For the record, soldiers do try to help in the fight but these war maidens are too OP that it’s pointless to even try to attack them. Best to just kill and die to a fellow enemy fodder.

Besides Regin’s request getting skipped instead of shown immediately, there’s not much complaints about what got covered. They’ll tell what that request is next episode.

I feel like in a do-or-die situation, how sexy the opponent is should be something easy for any soldier to ignore, you know? Especially if you know that the opponent is one of the 7 most powerful humans on the planet. For that matter, since they usually just go up against other War Maidens, it shouldn’t really be a factor anyway. Although some of Elizavetta’s words to Eleonora sure seemed suggestive…

      • AllenAndArth says:

yeah…but men are men…you can’t argue with that logic…i would look straight at her tights first thing before concentrating…sorry, i would die in that scenario…

Grisaia: I’m only wrong if you take JB at face value, something that you probably shouldn’t do. 1) She knows Yuuji’s situation with Makina. 2) She knows how Yuuji is, so she knows he’s not going to off Makina. 3) She shows him the dossier anyway, to give him information about the background of the family. “Did you read the next part?” “No.” “Well, it was *something something something*” “Ah yes I remember seeing something about that.” Unsaid: “So you DID read it! Why don’t you just say that?” “Because then you couldn’t provide the exposition for the audience.”

Conclusion: She never intended for him to take the job. She had to pretend that it was for him to have him read the information. She even continued to help him out when she was supposed to be catching him.

    • Sumairii says:

The job was meant to be Yuuji’s, regardless of how he or Julia felt. I figured he might have more internal struggle between his job as a professional and his new guardian role. But in hindsight I should have expected him to make the decision easily considering his personality.

      • Highway says:

I had no such doubt, and nor should you have, as you acknowledge. My point is that JB had no such doubt either, and “gave” Yuuji the job knowing that there was no chance that it would get done by him. She never had any intention for Yuuji to kill Makina because she knew it wasn’t going to happen. But as she said, if he didn’t take it, then someone else would get it, so she was getting him to take it to give him a chance to get her outta Dodge.

Whether they both went through the farce of her offering it and accepting it or not, JB didn’t ever intend for Yuuji to kill Makina.

        • Sumairii says:

Allow me to refresh your memory on what you said:

Yuuji hasn’t been assigned to kill Makina. JB was just showing him that their organization has been hired to assassinate her.

So no, you are still wrong. Yuuji was assigned to kill Makina. I don’t disagree with anything you are saying about the subtext of their conversation. But you explicitly stated that Yuuji hadn’t been assigned to kill Makina when in fact he was.

Since you like filling things in with your imagination, imagine the following unseen conversation between the incompetent man in the suit and Julia: “put your best man on this job.” From that very moment, the job was assigned to Yuuji, whether or not he chose to fulfill it.

    Twintails

Like the double-reveal ending of Isuna realizing Thouars’s identity and Souji realizing Isuna’s.

The cross the line twice…at the same time. This is how you do absurd.

    Vanadis LN elaborations:
    – Eliza has ties with Ganelon and Thernardier, and was trying to lure Ellen away from Tigre to leave him vulnerable.

    – Eliza and Ellen have plenty of bad blood between each other. Eliza blames Ellen for her father’s death; he was killed trying to escape arrest by Ellen’s forces. He’d been accused of treason for tax fraud; the Zcted crown ordered Ellen to capture him.

    – Likewise, Eliza burned down Ellen’s birth village to control a plague from spreading.

    – Eliza wants to test her new strength against Ellen, which Ellen notes has increased unnaturally since their last encounter. Show ▼

Vanadis costume designs were clearly made to appeal to specific types of readers. :p

  6. JPNIgor says:

Grisaia – The thing that struck me as the weirdest this episode was the two of them sleeping in underwears… Was that really needed? .-.

I did expect more, I was expecting them exposing Yuuji’s personality and emotions better, but he was as cold as ever… Let’s see what happens with the next arc. If it’s the last, it will last quite a lot.

  7. belatkuro says:

Grisaia: I never got to continue playing Makina route so there’s not much comment from me. I was planning to play it but the Yumiko episode sapped all my motivation. So I watched this route as an anime only viewer. It’s a weird thing really.
Heard this was a mix of the good and bad end of the route. Bad end with Yuuji killing the mother and good end with him surviving. Which kind of contradicts what he said that he doesn’t kill anymore. If they followed the good end then he really doesn’t kill. Though you could argue that when it’s for a loved one, he can break his rules and do anything. At least Yuuji came out of this 70 million yen richer than before.

Amane route is the last one. I’m actually in the minority that didn’t like the route that much, meaning majority of VN readers liked it. I like Amane as a character but her route wasn’t that good for me. The buildup wasn’t worth the climax of the story.

Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu – 08: I’m glad there are characters that actually take time and notice something is amiss as they look at an image. Kudos to Souji and Isuna figuring out their respective focused target isn’t who they appear to be. Even though it’s ridiculously overdue.

Unless there are parental restrictions on her computer, I don’t see how Erina couldn’t find any porn on the internet. 😛

  9. AllenAndArth says:

I dropped Grisaia a long time ago so…no idea what happens in there and i still haven’t watched twintails so…i’ll just talk about vanadis…They’re doing such a poor job with it, the LN is 10 times better, but it’s probably because the show only has 13 episodes, still i wish they had shown a bit more of love to the LN than what they are doing, they ambushes and the arc they’re illustrating would actually take more time to make it good though 2 or 3 episodes at least, but, with how much they have to cover in only 13 episodes it gets rushed and frankly…it’s bad…Ludmilla is still the best girl…yes i ship TigreXLudmilla

  10. BlackBriar says:

Grisaia no Kajitsu – 09: Agreed that this arc was solid yet rushed. It would have done the arc justice if there was at least one more episode allowed but since the series as a whole a limited total of episodes, it couldn’t be helped. Kind of a shame, though. Some parts were interesting enough in its own right.

  11. BlackBriar says:

Madan no Ou to Vanadis – 09:

Are all war maidens forced only to shop at strippers’ shops for clothes?

I have a solid enough reason which defends why they dress the way they do. The war maidens wear enough clothes to cover the important parts of the their bodies but don’t go overboard in wearing so much that it weighs them down and restrict their movements. Thus making it easier for them to fight in battle. Gladly putting up with exposing some skin in exchange for gaining mobility. A fair trade-off if you ask me. And because their outfits are skin tight to a degree, it wouldn’t feel like anything is holding them back. Like, say, when they’re swinging their swords and such. Elizavetta makes a good example to back that option. The dress she wears is so long, flowing and a bit baggy she’d easily be swayed and distracted if a strong wind ever blew her way. Ludmila gets away because though she’s wearing sleeves, they’re closed up enough that wind can’t get in.

I’m again left wondering why they don’t just save a whole lot of trouble and innocent lives by having just the bosses from each side duke it out. Seriously, think of the likely poor peasants who don’t get to go home to their likely starving families because they died while fighting in an utterly pointless battle.

This is war. It comes with the territory and there’s no such thing as a war without casualties. As long as there are people who can’t see eye to eye, conflict and subsequent deaths are unavoidable. Plus, the soldiers are willingly backing their leaders so they have no problem dying for what they believe in.

The highlights were Tigre discussing strategies with Ludmila. That was a lot more interesting than Eleonora fight with the other war maiden. Seriously, each faction is getting some kind of support. Gotta wonder how high the body count will go.
