MetaFap: Fall ’14 – 07 [NSFW]
This week comes with a bonus!
Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu – 07
Come on, Aika, it’s premature to be underestimating Souji’s stamina just because he’s a a teenager.
Well, that was an unfortunate episode. After all that build up for Dark Grasper’s intro, we got a whole lot of nothing happening in this episode. The good thing is that Erina was front and center again, something for which I had hoped last week. Too bad it was done so poorly. We’ve already seen her losing control during strip-fighting twice last episode; we didn’t need to see it again, and with virtually all the same moves as the last time. And her big “hit me” moment just felt contrived. I appreciate that the show made an effort to show Erina noticing Aika torturing Thouars a couple times in the episode first, but still, find a more organic way of bringing it in than having her go, “Please hit me, it looks fun!” How about have Aika lose her temper at Erina for some reason and attack her, pull back when she thinks she’s gone too far, only to notice that Erina is helplessly lost in pleasure from the bullying, asking her to keep going?
And how come Dark Grasper’s big entrance was all but aborted? She just disappeared to do her idol thing after her brief introduction. That intro raised some good questions about Thouars’s past, how the Ultimegil organization works, and Isuna’s insecurity about people liking her, but all of that got dropped. Even the character building moments like her duel with her producer were poorly done.
Oh gawd, dat track suit (click for stitch).
At least the slapstick comedy was on point, the sole strong point of this episode. I still don’t tire of seeing Aika going off on Thouars. Those two also keep making some of the best faces in anime this season. Erina’s extremely excited faces are quite the sight as well, as cute as they are sexy. For that reason alone, I liked this episode significantly better than I liked episode 2, but this was surely the worst one since that one. For shame. I hope really diving deep into Erina’s story next week can get the show back on track.
Everyone’s all about Tail Blue’s chest, but Tail Red’s got at least an A-class washboard as well (click for stitch).
She came (click for stitch).
Just makes you want to take her home (click for stitch).
Poor Erina might have a hard time finding someone willing to hit a face like that.

Madan no Ou to Vanadis – 08
“Hey there, cutie. Looking for a harem to join?” (stitch)
So the war story is starting to lose me. When it was just Brune vs. Zhcted and Tigre traitorously allying with Eleonora, things were fine, but now we’ve got a 3rd nation – one that’s represented in a comically racist way no less – coming out of nowhere, and Tigre working to defend the nation that turned its back on him from them? Why? What is he fighting for now anyway, with his home town presumed to be safe and sound? Why was Roland so certain that Tigre was on the side of justice?
Tigre certainly does seem to have an outsized sense of justice at least, what with saving that random pretty blonde girl (thank goodness it wasn’t some old fogey – would’ve been a waste of arrows to save that life, right?) to bowing to that one peasant who was pissed off he took time to prepare a victorious battle instead of rushing in early in the off chance it might save a few extra heads. Look, I like Tigre already; there’s no need to paint him as a fucking saint at this point. It especially looks off when just moments ago he was ordering the slaughtering of literally every opposing soldier on the battlefield.
All this could be overlooked if the battle sequences were good, and this episode did feature some good moments such as that cliff side ambush, but most of it was just awful, even worse than usual. The entire guerrilla warfare portion during which Tiger’s forces sniped at the Muozinel army to soften them up was told in CG representation form. That CG has been used to good effect to give a lay of the land in battles, but when they start outright replacing entire battle sequences, we’ve got a problem. And the climactic battle at the end was terrible in so many ways, such as the laser-arrow (does Tigre have the power to imbue anti-gravity to his arrows?) or the “we have the numbers advantage by far, but our leader just got headshotted, so we lose!”
Clearly the trajectory you want your arrow to come out at if you’re shooting at someone so far away that they have no doubt that you can hit them.
I really do think this show’s pacing is getting to be way too quick for the number of players it has. I end up not caring about the characters other than the 2 protagonists, and even then, I’m not following what their motivations are and why they’re doing what they’re doing. Stretching things out a bit, giving us time to really get a sense of who the various players would be much preferable to what we’re getting now. Alas, I expect the series to continue with its lightning quick pacing, so I just hope that by the end it will have built up enough tension to keep me engaged. Doing a better job with the battle scenes would be nice too, but let’s not go crazy here with our hopes.
Oh, the sick girl. Maybe we’ll see her soon?
High heels seem to be the big thing for action heroines these days (click for stitch).

Grisaia no Kajitsu – 08
So the good news is that Fruit of the Loom seems to be pulling itself together for Makina’s route. No doubt there was the usual heavy compression of material. But the thing that saves this episode is the deeper exploration of Yuuji’s past. Makina’s story isn’t bad so far; it’s just a bit standard fare as usual. Her family is influential and has a dark side. Stuff happens and she becomes disowned. Sound familiar? Yeah, it’s more or less a variation on Yumiko’s own story. And fortunately, this time we are afforded more than one episode to better develop the situation as well as explore the main character on the side. One has to wonder why the show didn’t just go for episodes more like this one since it proves that the material can indeed be somewhat interesting if given a chance. But I guess it comes down to mistakes being made.
If you had to put a price on a father…
So I’ve more or less covered Makina’s family problems. The rest of her circumstances involve latching on to Yuuji as a father figure. Obviously to act as a replacement for her real father who was silenced with extreme prejudice by the ruthless matriarchy of her family. This is rather fascinating, because the relationship between Makina and Yuuji has to be the most complex between the hero’s relationships with the rest of the girls so far. With Michiru and Yumiko he was more or less an outsider who got involved. With Sachi, he was a childhood acquaintance and the two helped each other ride out some tough times. Now, we get something much more personal and involved, even if the idea of Yuuji being a classmate’s father is absurd.
Just some normal father-daughter bonding.
And now that I think about it, there is a very clear trend of increasing intimacy between Yuuji and the heroine of the arc. Perhaps this hints that Yuuji’s yet to be revealed connection with Amane runs even deeper than his playing family with Makina? Who knows? There certainly has to be a reason why the show is saving the exhibitionist onee-san for last. But I digress. Back to Makina and Yuuji, the two’s present agreement allows us to explore Yuuji’s past as we learn more about Asako, the “master” referred to several times before who brought him up. Basically, she was his mentor in whatever organization they work for. And given the suggestive remarks made by Julia’s secretary, Asako might even have been the previous 9029 before Yuuji became her replacement.
Father’s mother.
Now, all this actually tells us less than we might initially think about Yuuji. But it’s hopefully the start of a trend that will allow us to see him as a more human character rather than as a stoic hitman with whom we share very little sympathy. Already we see his love for what little family he can call his own. He had a mother figure, and I’m guessing John was a pet of some sort. That’s great. It shows that he can actually feel human emotions despite his constant poker face and monotonous voice. And now that he’s been assigned the assassination of his self-appointed “daughter,” I’m willing to bet that we will see an even broader range of emotions from our hero as he struggles to make the difficult decision between his job and his promise to a silly, foul-mouthed girl.

I didn’t know anything about Japan’s Animator Expo, but came across the Me!Me!Me! video a couple of days ago, and to be surprise, I enjoyed it. I really liked the art style/direction. I’ve heard a number of theories on what the viedo is really about, but I’m still undecided.
POWUH: Meta Team and PreCure Mastah with 9203 comments
Yeah it certainly has a great art style for those who loved the EVA rebuild movies and Panty and stocking! So if you are a fan of those designs you will like that short video, but since it is so sexual in nature it will turn a lot of casual fans away even if it was a simple music video.
Theories? Interesting I should look those up xD
POWUH: Metanorn Lover with 163 comments
My own theory would be how porn twists your image of the women you are around and ruins your relationships with them.

True that is also possible.

My theory is it was more like, “Let’s do something that will leave people scratching their heads and going ‘WTF’? And make it sexual because sex sells.”

So far, there’s nothing here I disagree with.

Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu – 07: The contrast between Anko Iisuna and her alter ego Dark Grasper is giving me a whiplash. As Dark Grasper, she showed herself to be badass but right after her introduction the guildy, she turns into this meek, frail looking girl. If anyone’s wondering who her seiyuu is, that would be Yoko Hikasa.
Right, Thouars. Fixing Souji’s zipper with your mouth. She should at least try not to make her ulterior motives so clear.
For Erina to not know what a porn magazine is, you can tell her parents did everything in their power to micro-manage her life. Now this half pure/half masochistic thing is going to have her mind corrupted by all the guys. Kudos to the one who suggested yuri.

Isna/Isuna should stop being a Steph and go for her woman! Also, he appears to look amazing like Akemi Homura and her megane!
MEGANEKKO FTW!!!
This show is too full of fetish fuel…
Re: Vanadis. Mr. archer doesn’t know how to shoot. In comparison to a REAL GARcher (or another golden Archer)…
POWUH: and Vampire Lover with 11746 comments
The Kyoukai no Kanata lead Akihito Kanbara should join in since he’s all about glasses.
The shows seems very abundant in fetishes of all kinds. Is it too much to ask for a Guildy that’s into yuri? 😉

MeMeMe <3 that and the song is so damn catchy! I like the different songs like at 2:23 switches to something out of Space Dandy and the cool FPS style moment? Whoa! I wonder if it will get some anime treatment? We have several anime series based off music videos, but truth be told they have NOT done anything amazing! I am looking at you BRS and Mekaku City Actors! Anyway I don't think that will happen since it was just a video to showcase animation and music! That said I love those character designs yo! Good stuff~

While it appears to look nice, it is exactly another load of ammunition for me as to why I always use the term AniPr0n for anime. 😛

Grisaia no Kajitsu – 08: I guess this was better than the previous episodes so far. Certainly had a small laugh with Yuuji suddenly agreeing to be a “father”. Rich families always have such cutthroat mannerisms.
In my opinion, it would be better that Yuuji stays portrayed as he is. After 8 episodes, I’ve firmly adopted his stoic nature so suddenly having him appear like a regular person would feel weird.
POWUH: and Vampire Lover with 11746 comments
Madan no Ou to Vanadis – 08: Where this new adversary nation is concerned, my tolerance simply chalked up to a neighboring country that saw instability and opportunity to conquer new territories. An otherwise natural mindset for people in those kinds of time periods.
Anyway, passable episode and we got Ludmila at the end who grew on me after her conversation with Tigre in the snowy forest a few episodes back. Tigre defending people is fine but at the moment, I’m more curious on what develops as Eleonora leaves to help her war maiden friend.

Grisaia: Yuuji hasn’t been assigned to kill Makina. JB was just showing him that their organization has been hired to assassinate her. That’s what all that “I can’t be assigned a job” and “I know, I’m just showing you this” stuff was.

Twintails:
More wacky LN details:-
a)Hollywood plans to make a Twintails movie. TailBlue will be played by a very masculine male actor, who will grow his hair out into twintails for the role. He says only his bigger muscles separate him from the real TailBlue. TailRed’s actress fits the role perfectly.
Aika later mentions the movie project is cancelled.
b)Thouars designs an eroge game featuring herself to get Souji’s libido pumping for girls. She also sets his mobile phone’s ringtone and alarm clock, to say “Thouars’s boobs”. She ends up getting Souji’s stress levels pumping instead.

ME!ME!ME! – Fosh, what have you been watching? That was so mindfucking… Though I have to admit, the animation and art style were awesome and I loved the song, though I wouldn’t call it catchy since you really can’t understand what she’s singing.
And are those girls firing bullets from their boobs? THAT’s awesome.

Vanadis: Well technically Tigre is still fighting to protect Alsace and Territoire, which is owned by Augre and his son(the third old guy and the pretty boy this episode). The narration state that the Muozinel army was heading northwards and looking at the maps, they will pass through Territoire and eventually Alsace if they’re not stopped. Tigre got the cooperation of Augre on the condition that he also fights for Territoire’s protection.
There’s also the fact that Thenardier and Ganelon were reluctant to send out forces more than necessary as it might affect their civil war against each other. Thenardier just sent 7000 troops to handle the enemy like the narration said.
Lastly, Tigre was shaken up more than expected with Alsace getting attacked so he feels the need to prevent that from happening to other places. Sainthood, muh land, muh peace, all those random reasons.
And actually, contrary to what the anime narrator and the CG chess pieces visualized, they only did one other ambush attack before the enemy killed those hostages. They were severely lacking in manpower after all and they’re still fatigued after fighting against Roland’s army. Some infantry used the armor and clothes of the Muozinel army that they killed earlier to blend in to the second advance group sent against them. They prevented getting hit by allies by using codewords. When one says ‘bear’, the other responds ‘rabbit’.
The leader dying in the enemy side was definitely a huge blow to the Muozinel army’s morale. Tigre made use of that low point to counterattack before they organized themselves and reformed their ranks. It only worked because they were underestimated by the enemy through their ambushes. Morale plays a big role in wars after all and it’s especially used in this story.
Also, Tigre made quite an impact in shooting the enemy general from that distance. I don’t remember if it was mentioned actually but Alsin is what they call the distance in meters. That means Tigre’s max range is 300 meters. A feat no one can imagine be pulled off, much less from someone from Brune who dislikes bows. Tigre is just that hax in the bow.
The pace is still relatively fast even if they only have 2 more volumes to cover. This episode covered the end of volume 3 and a third of volume 4. That’s what they get for wanting to cover the whole Brune civil war in just one cour but what can you do. Kadokawa just won’t fund it more than one-cour.

See, when you tell it that way, the story actually sounds engaging and interesting. Really seems like it could’ve been good if stretched over 2 or even 3 episodes instead of this rushed 1. Adapting a lot of content into a short amount of time is a delicate art that can turn out excellent when done right, but Satelite clearly isn’t doing it.

I’m the guy who didn’t care for that Me!Me!Me! video. Just don’t go for that art style (similarly, I made it through about half an episode of P&SwG before just turning it off). I like boobs and sexy stuff as much as anyone, but that just didn’t do it for me.

Twintails: Nice to hear Miki Shinichiro as a Guildy even if it was brief. Still waiting for that Wakamoto Guildy.
And why are they calling Dark Grasper a human? Aren’t she and Twoearle from another planet since they know each other? Twoearle already said that her planet was attacked by the Ultimaguil. They’re both aliens then. Or does anyone that look human will be called human?
Semantics but it’s bothering me.
POWUH: Meta Team and Spammy Tamer with 7115 comments
Miki Shinichiro was doing all sorts of guest spots. He was Jaws in Amagi Brilliant Park ep 7 also.
Also, I didn’t pay attention, but the human reference could either have been a translation choice (for ‘ningen’, for instance) or it could be that they are humans, and for whatever reason humans are all over the universe.
POWUH: 400-499 with 462 comments
They use the word “sekai” (in romaji, of course) meaning “world” when they talk about the place that Twirl came from. It seems more likely to me that we’re not talking about planets at all, the way we view them, but rather alternate universes.
