Akame ga Kill! – 09

Akame ga Kill00005

D’awww……..?

Ah yes, there’s nothing quite as heartwarming as watching a sadistic murderer fall in love. …And admittedly, Tatsumi was pretty cool. ww Ah, how the protagonist has grown since the beginning of the series.

The Jaegers are here! From this initial introduction, the plot has taken care that they’re just as varied in personality as Night Raid is (… and just as weird full of personality quirks). Of course, it could potentially be full of psychos like Seryuu (who seemed rather normal this episode), but as far as a team, they seem like they would be capable of working together. No one is overly antagonistic of each other. Plus they all have Imperial Arms (was that covered in the episode? Oh well, yes, they all have Imperial Arms. I imagine that should be expected by now since the Capital isn’t that stupid when it comes to keeping their power), so the Jaegers are all pretty strong.

Everyone was covered pretty briefly, but Wave was maybe the one of the more… relatable characters there. He’s also kind of interesting, since he seems basically like Tatsumi, had Tatsumi gotten into the Capital without the issues and running into Night Raid like he had. They’re both pretty average guys with better than average fighting skills (and they’re both also the tsukkomi kind of; that’s also important probably). I guess there was also Akame’s sister, Kurome there. So you just know that they’re going to come face to face in the near future and attempt to kill each other. You know, like most families tend to do.

Esdeath’s character was explored again, and there was a lot of focus on her mentality that only the strongest can win. She seems to have felt compassion for her fallen subordinates, of course, but there was that underlying tone to her speech that this could have been avoided if the were stronger. There’s also the whole issue of her wanting to prolong the fighting as long as possible for fun, so that helps explain why she’s so willing to kill for the Prime Minister. But Akame ga Kill also managed somehow to kind of balance this out with her character looking for true love. …With an almost impossible set of requirements. But hey, the world is pretty big, so there has to be someone, right?

Well that was convenient.

So yeah, Suma called it. Esdeath totally went ~kyun~ for Tatsumi. I’m sure many people saw this coming as well, but that didn’t stop it from being any less amusing. There was a collar. Of course there was a collar. So he now has his hands full and Night Raid has to go rescue him. Maybe this isn’t so amusing in the long run, since the recent fights have all led to an unfortunate amount of death, but it’s nice to see that Akame ga Kill isn’t being too angsty over its lost characters. They’re still remembered of course, but the series is using them more as stepping stones for the other character’s motivation more than anything else.

I had no idea where else to put this:

So not too much depression about Bulat, which is good for the plot, if maybe a little sad since he was pretty damn gar. But hey, it seems like his death is just another thing pushing Tatsumi forward. Especially after that flashback of how Bulat was interested in Tatsumi’s potential. It’s almost like he knew that Tatsumi was the protagonist in a shounen show. Anyways, most of the episode was spent away from Night Raid, which was fine, since the Jaegers are an interesting group on their own. Though they kind of outnumber Night Raid at the moment, so it’s convenient that Najenda is out to attempt to recruit new members. Anyways, it’s a bit saddening since he seems to get all of the deaths already, but I’ll have to pass Esdeath and Tatsumi’s bedroom adventures off to Suma.

Good luck with that, Tatsumi.

OMG Bols is soooooooo MOE! ;-P

I like this new team, they seem a bit rough in some spots, some room to grow is needed. They should start killing more of the things!

Once again, you get an Esdeath episode, Kara. I think we’ve clarified how the cycle goes now.

Calling Esdeath new team the Jaegers a bunch of hardcore eccentrics is an understatement. You hit the nail on the head with psychos. Seryuu is there paying tribute to Edward Elric, two fold, by the way and Kurome is definitely Akame’s sister. The same tendency over their food. Poor Wave with the glasses guy hovering around him. And I thought Tatsumi had it bad with Bulat within range of him.

I’m conflicted here. In whether I should applaud Tatsumi for getting a beautiful woman to like him or feel a huge swell of pity that a murdering, sadistic dominatrix trying to break him in. That dog collar immediately got me foreshadowing some pretty kinky S&M stuff on the horizon. God knows how he’s going to get out of this. Understandable that the emperor was troubled trying to find someone who fits her many standards.

You just want to blog about the femdom in detail, don’t you? Admit it!! 😉

Side note: This a little out of the way but here’s a bit of news on past animes you’ve blogged. Diabolik Lovers is getting an English dub and the Strike the Blood sales are still solid as ever. Hard to image that next month/next season will be a year since their initial airing. Though technically, Dia Lovers started September 16th 2013.
