Summer Anime Catalogue 2014

Welcome to METANORN’s Summer Anime Catalogue of 2014!

I was just wondering to myself when will I ever finish HunterxHunter? Well, it’s going to be this Summer because the Chimera arc has been so exciting. Though, rather than talking about long-running shows, this Summer seems much promising compared to last year because I want to check out more than 60% of the list. My special mentions are Zankyou no Terror (all Tokyo named shows actually), Sengoku Basara, Aldnoah.Zero, Space Dandy 2 and Kuroshitsuji: Book of Circus. Hopefully, it’s going be an eventful season.
Spring is finally over which means summertime but for me that just means lots of thunderstorms and rain every other day, but at least we have a lot of new anime to check out this season right?! So far I am super excited to see Aldnoah.Zero, Akame ga Kill, Glasslip, Shirogane no Ishi Argevollen, Tokyo Ghoul, Rokujouma no Shinryakusha and more Free! However I plan on personally trying a bit of everything, well minus the reverse harems or Love Stage! So what are you most excited to see?
The Spring season started strong, but I ended up dropping or losing interest in a ton of shows. Now I’m a little bit disenchanted and cynical. The summer season looks great, but is it really going to be good? I’m terrible at guessing these sorts of things. Although, I suppose a new season of Sengoku Basara and Free! is pretty damn awesome. Yep, my cynicism just melted away with the promise of all those hot, muscular dudes to stare at (I’m easily persuaded by abs). WOOOO SUMMER!
Ah, there’s surely no way to spend summer except holed away in an air-conditioned room watching some anime, especially when you live in hellish heat like I do. Thankfully this summer season is filled with some really good title to look forward to, including Tokyo Ghoul, Zankyou no Terror, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, Tokyo ESP, and of course the second season of Free! (something I have totally not spent my vacation anxiously waiting for). So if you aren’t up to spending time in the sweltering summer, at least you know you’ve got a lot of interesting shows to pick from this year.~
After like, 9 months of winter, I’m extremely excited to see the summer season come. Anime-wise, things are looking good too. Akame ga Kill! should probably be good (I’m a huuuge fan of the manga) and if not, there are other darker themed looking anime like Tokyo Ghoul and Zankyou no Terror that are also coming out. …And if those don’t work out, there’s always Free! and Sengoku Basara.
It’s summer again! And this year it looks like we’re in for some pretty good titles. With stuff like Akame ga Kill, Tokyo Ghoul, and Tokyo ESP, I’m definitely looking forward to an action-packed season. Oh, and there’s also more SAO for what it’s worth… Opinions are sure to be divided on that one. Anyway, summer isn’t usually a jam-packed season, so this should be a good time to sit back and enjoy a lighter load of shows.
What are we going to get for the summer? I have no idea. I really don’t, and not solely because I’m terrible at dealing with previews. I know people like to look at all the shows, and wonder what’s going to be good, and speculate about what’s going to be bad, but how are things really going to be? We just don’t know until we get there. But until we get there, all we can do is speculate! Enjoy the summer preview!
I’m not the type of person who is excited about summer because it means more sun, rain, flood, and unpredicted weather. Thankfully I’ve been busy doing nothing inside my house since it’s vacation YEAH! And since I’m busy doing nothing of course it means more time to watch summer anime which I am SO EXCITED about for obvious reasons, of course. Besides of the things I am excited about, it seems there are many promising titles that won’t make my vacation as boring as I thought it would be.
Summer is not my best time of year, I don’t like to be hot. So, it’s nice to cool down with a new anime season. I love beginnings, as there is so much potential out there. We could get just about anything. The best of the best, or worst of the rest. So. Much. Potential. I love dipping my toe in and sampling everything. But then, there are the shows you anticipate. For me it’s going to be Fate/Ilya, Barakamon, SAO II, Majimoji, and Blade Dance. On a personal note, I look forward to my second full season here at Metanorn. This catalog preview actually brings me full circle in my Fresh Meat experience. See, I didn’t even know I would be able to commit until the Spring season barely began. I hope to see lots of you around these parts.

Enjoy our comprehensive listing of Summer anime 2014, meticulously organized under categories for your viewing pleasure as always. Big thanks and love for Ness, who helped me with the post graphics and draft transfer, while Fosh, Hoshi, Suma and Team Meta members for information gathering and comments. Without any further ado:

Off this list excited most for Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo ESP. Yup. The two Tokyos it seems.

    • skylion says:

ESP looks the most interesting to me out of those two. Equal parts absurd, and wonderful in it’s design.

    • Kyokai says:

I’m down for all the Tokyo shows this season, all seem quite promising.

    • Namika says:

Tokyo Ghoul looks SOOOOOOOOOO nice~ *O*

  2. Cassandra says:

Apparently guys do like Free! Comes as a real surprise. That said personally also looking forward to the good music seen in the ED.

Obviously looking forward to Free! Eternal Summer but also Ao Haru Ride and Love Stage!!

    • Kyokai says:

I know a lot of boys who watch Free! It’s a sports show after all and the FRIENDSHIPS! xD

Ao Haru Ride is your typical shoujo drama. Be ready to feel angry and betrayed with the events that will unfold. Love Stage! should be surprisingly good because even when it stays well in to the yaoi genre but it also flings some fun towards the usual trope. The summer is going to be fun for fangirls indeed. ^^

      • Namika says:

All the boys that I know said one thing after me asking them about Free. It’s : GAYYYYYYYYYYYYY~ 😀 unfortunately. I have no one to ramble with in RL 😀

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

        Kyoto Manimation!

  3. Namika says:

This summer is so EXCITING!!!! I can’t help but to literally squeal in delight, when I think about how much we’re getting.
First of all, Sailor Moon, HELLS YES! I’mma watch it with my gang of friends, girls AND guys. This anime is seriously a huge part of our childhood, and seeing it re-made is just amazing.
Then FREE OMFG YESSS~ <3 what else can I say, it's free. How can I not be jazzed about the 2nd season <3
Love stage~! <3 After finding out about the anime I stopped reading the manga. And it breaks my heart because I love it so much but I want to watch it with a fresher mind and not compare every single detail to the manga. I just hope they'll stick to it as much as possible.
Psycho-Pass is a watch for me, even though it's a remake. I love that show so much that I'd be happy with almost anything. Plus, that will be a future chance to make my BFF watch it with me.
Kuroshitsuji also makes me squeal like a fangirl. I love almost everything about that show, no matter how far it went into the fancervice. As long as we'll get more Sebastian on screen I'm happy _< I need my dose of dark anime nao! I have Rin:Daughters of Mnemosyne(is this how it's spelled) in my backlog but I just can't watch it because I don't know what to pick up after it.

    • Namika says:

okay, a part of my comment was eaten. I was just basically rambling how much I want to see Tokyo Ghoul and how good it looks and stuff. 😀 Rin: reference looks really random there, but I was just whining about how there are no good dark animes. Not that I know any.

  4. Namika says:

Other than those shows I will probably watch Dramatical Murder, and probably check out(though knowing me, it’s not likely) Aldnoah.Zero, just because Gen Urobuchi is working on it, Ao Haru Ride for some shoujo and Shounen Hollywood just because why not. 😀

    • Kyokai says:

Try Love Stage too I guess. It’s supposedly should be fun. xD

      • Namika says:

I may actually think about it sometime in the future *holds chin between two fingers*
And fangirl when it will finally air <3

  5. skylion says:

We got like 124 comments on the Spring 2014 season. 30 some odd more and we can double that for Summer. Make it count!

    • BlackBriar says:

We’re still lacking severely. Remember the Anime Catalogue for Summer 2013 holds the record for most comments on the entire site of Metanorn. Over 400 comments!!!

    • skylion says:

What is it about Hanamayata that makes it a strong contender?

      • BlackBriar says:

I’m wondering the same exact thing. It doesn’t look very impressive from my point of view.

      • d-LaN says:

For m, its the dem pretty COLOURS. The trailer for Hanayamata sold me instantly despite I’m only mildly interested while reading the manga.

And apparently some1 frm NGNL is also working on Hanayamata. But I usually don’t care abt the staff so I’m not sure.

    • BlackBriar says:

What’s the definition behind the ‘ehh’ list?

    • akagami says:

I want another season of K! But a movie isn’t half bad, I guess.
