Log Horizon – 03

Log Horizon (3)

Akatsuki-“Yo, dawg you gotta snipe that dragon.”          Shiroe-“uhhhh.”

spring13-jrowI beat GTA V over the weekend, and while it’s fun as hell to do Heist missions and steal gold totaling over $200,000,000, I certainly wouldn’t want to be stuck in GTA Online. Fosh & I are back to discuss the ongoing adventures of Shiroe and the gang as they head to Susukino to find Serara.

 —————————————

spring13-foshWoooooooooooooooooo the MMORPG adventure continues and just like last time we get to watch our trio work together to own some monsters and work their way to saving Serara.

I have sensed something important like Mapo Tofu in this episode!

Where is our Mapo Tofu chef!?

  2. PrimeHector says:

Akatsuki is legal. That is all.

    • BlackBriar says:

Gotta wonder what the reveal is doing to all the lolicons out there. 😉

      • d-LaN says:

Nah. Its just means that she is a legal loli 😛

      • Highway says:

The good lolicons are just after the look. This makes her perfect. The bad lolicons who are turned off by her being college-aged can take a long walk off a short pier and hug an octopus, imo.

      • skylion says:

        Probably apoplexy….

  3. Krono says:

I have to say I did not expect Akatsuki to be a college student. The scene with her getting ticked off that they thought she was a kid was pretty funny. I guess they really are trying to ship her and Shiroe together with that addition of around the same age as if they weren’t trying to already.

I do not know why but it made me very that Shiroe is an engineering student like me. I guess it is cool to think that he is kinda like me even though I am no where near being a good strategist.

I wonder if we will get to see any backstory hints about who our tank was in the real world any time soon.

    • Foshizzel says:

Seems to be a shock to everyone that Akatsuki is in college and yeah it is always funny when she flips out and turns on that little kid mode.

Hell ya! I think its great that he can apply his real world talents to the game world.

Probably I don’t see why not we have like twenty something episodes to work with but what is his real life even like? I assume hes a perv and I would guess athletic?

  4. HannoX says:

That would make all three of the main characters college age, not high schoolers. A nice change there.

Awww, Serara has a kitty husband (maybe). I never did get a good look at the length of his blades, but it looks like he has a pair of rapiers, although one could be a main gauche with rapier guard and handle. Either way, if he has a cat’s reflexes to go along with his cat body I bet he’s pure badass with his blades.

  5. Highway says:

I do wonder if they’ll come up to a fight that’s actually a challenge. So far, all the fights have been one-sided, and made even more by-the-numbers by Shiroe’s rather flat explanations of their abilities and characteristics. There really hasn’t been any sort of tension in the fights yet. And that won’t be so bad if the show really isn’t about the fights, but then we need to find out what the show is about.

I also wonder how persistent the world is, whether all the stuff that fell down and broke in that dungeon area stays broken forever, or whether it respawns. Having an instanced dungeon tunnel would be more interesting, I think.

    • Krono says:

I agree. They probably will not run into any high level bosses just because going on raids is not their goal or the focus of the series at this point. The series is focusing on the conflict between players more than the conflict against monsters. I do find it weird that Shiroe automatically knew that the boss used primarily debuffs.

I kinda hope the world in here is dynamic and that a king of one empire or another will realize what is going on and bring the hammer down.

    • Foshizzel says:

@Highway: Yeah so far when it comes to human vs monster Shiroe is a pro, but I am going to say that when it comes down to the serious players he will have a tough time! I think the next title for the 4th episode makes me think he is going to run away from this new “boss” they showed…

Yeah that is a great question! I dunno if things in that world stay broken or they return back to normal after a set time? I know Everquest Next has destructible environments that restore after a set time.

@Krono: Right I don’t think the endgame of Log Horizon is about raiding and killing giant bosses and like you said I think it will be all about the PVP and saving “lives” as for HOW Shiroe knew about it I guess he already cleared that Palm area with his past guild? I guess since they saw those tiny rats with that plague debuff maybe he assumed the giant one would have the same thing but at a higher risk?

I think with that expansion pack there might come some new players or NPCS? I really hope there is not some dumbass AI character in Log Horizon, but since that is a thing in most videogame themed anime I wouldn’t put it past them to include one >.<

  6. BlackBriar says:

I’m glad there’ll be some formidable enemies on the way to find Serara. So far, the group has been having a little too easy and knowing they’re at level 90 isn’t helping easing the complaint.

Akatsuki turning out to be the same age as Shiroe despite her size and attitude really caught me off guard. Naturally, when you see someone her size and the way she acts, you’d easily assume “Ok, she’s about 12 or 13 years old, possibly impulsive and wants to prove herself. Just be nice to her and let her feel she’s more grown up than she actually is and everything will be alright”. You don’t expect them to actually be your equal in age and school. Something will snap inside out of disbelief.

I always laugh when Akatsuki asks for permission to attack people after she does so. The last character seen with that kind of mindset was Ben-To’s Ume Shiraume.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I like watching the main team fight together even if they are 90 it is still great watching how they defeat certain bosses.

Yay college level people stuck in a game! Maybe that explains why the main team has not freaked out about their current situation? I mean maybe they are more mature about it?

Ahahah yes Akatsuki doe act a lot like Ume.

      • Krono says:

The important difference is she is LIKEABLE. I really wanted someone to kick Ume in the face in Bento.

It is cool to watch how work together so well.

    • skylion says:

Any Ben-to reference is gold. That show needs more love.

      • Foshizzel says:

We really need another season of Ben-TO

        • BlackBriar says:

Another season of Ben-To is long overdue. It’s already been two years this season.

          • d-LaN says:

Ben-To is animated by which studio again? Does that studio have the track record of making sequels cuz Brain Base is infamous for not making sequels except their “main” series.

            And yeah, Ben-To S2 plz!

  7. belatkuro says:

Guys, the author of Log Horizon was on /a/ a while ago and was answering different questions about the show. Check the archives for that.

    • d-LaN says:

Holy hell. /a/ of all places was kinda unexpected XD

I don’t really feel like going to /a/ so it would be helpful to have a redux ver over here plz.

      • belatkuro says:

Well, Maoyuu and LH did start on 2ch so he should be quite familiar with an imageboard like /a/.

And here’s a condensed post in AS.
Alternatively, here’s a news post on Crunchyroll.

  8. Kyokai says:

This is so much better than SAO. Loving it till now and even more so because of Jouji Nyaakata~ :3

    • d-LaN says:

If it makes you feel better abt SAO, the future arcs are way above Fairy Dance quality wise.

Or just read the Progressive LN.

      /shameless plug
