Summer Anime Catalogue 2013

Welcome to METANORN’s Summer Anime Catalogue of 2013!

Oh summer, why are you back?! Didn’t I tell you to buzz off last year? But oh well, I have to live with you anyway. So, I’m most excited about a show that is actually a rebroadcast, which I’ve seen so many times that I’ve lost count but what the hell, it’s going to be a blast with anything Type-Moon, even if it’s a weird Illya spinoff. I have some good expectations from Blood Lad (Brains Base, don’t fail me!), along with Monogatari, Gin no Saji, KamiNomi, Free! (obviously!) and Inu to Hasami. From the point of being all meh, I’m at least looking forward to the mixed-bag that summer season has to offer.
Summer’s here, so we say goodbye to goodies like Gargantia, Chihaya & Maou-sama, bring along other goodies like Titan and Railgun S and restock on more “Currently Watching” shows for our lists. We have another season in which a -monogatari series and High School DxD air together… that might be a hotness overload. I’m really glad to see The World God Only Knows get that 3rd season and bring back one of anime’s best characters, Keima Katsuragi. I’m also curious about both of A-1 Pictures’ shows this season, Servant x Service and Silver Spoon, which seem to have potential in their own ways. Have a Summah!
I have no patience, just bring me the new shows already! Speculating about upcoming shows is always exciting, kind of like low-risk gambling. In the end, I just want to actually see what’s coming and start pruning my watching list as the great shows separated themselves from the “Oh God, I can’t watch this past episode one” shows. There are a lot of promising sequels and spin-offs (Tamayura, Bakemonogatari, and that one show where Illya is suddenly a magical girl) that should be definite hits, along with some new shows I’ll be testing the waters of. I spy a Kenji Nakamura anime there and that makes me happy~
Wooooooo! Time for summer which means swimsuits, hot weather, cold drinks and lots of thunderstorms for me in Florida but there is nothing wrong with a little rain from time to time. So how about this season? Judging by our list of new anime I can tell this season is going to be a season of magical girls because we have roughly four starting with Fantastia dolls,  Senki Zesshou Symphogear G, Gen’ei Kakru Taiyou and Fate/Kaleid liner Prisma IIIya?! So if you are a fan of that genre you might have some fun. However, I think just about everyone and their brother or sister has their eyes set on FREE! because KyoAni is doing something different instead of the usual formula of cute girls doing cute things, which I will admit has me a bit curious…
I’m not the best aniblogger out there in this world. I literally disappeared for one season, ditching the precious 2D anime life for my 3D real life. I am a shame to all anime lovers out there for prioritizing real life over anime. But hey, it’s holiday now so I can watch anime all day long! I’ll be sticking around more too, that I can promise that. I mean, just look at the yaoi-dripping anime that’s going to be shown in summer. A swimming club with a bunch of underage pretty boys? A dozen male siblings “fighting” for their imouto? And what is that other show about magic and pretty boys? With all these treats and the release of Leijiverse remakes, I am sure as hell I’ll be sticking around this summer because this summer is for us fujoshi.
I… I can’t believe that this is the third year that I’m with Metanorn for the summer season. Time really flies. Anyways, last summer season wasn’t exactly all I thought it would be, but hopefully this year is significantly better. Danganronpa (currently my favourite visual novel) is getting an anime, which is exciting. Also, Rozen Maiden is back and I don’t know how long some of you have been stalking this site, but that’s been a favourite of mine for a while (despite containing nearly nothing of what my interests are now). Actually, this season has a fair few shows that I want to try out, and there are quite a few sequels of shows that were excellent (aka TWOGK and Monogatari s2) before so if the new stuff flops, those should be reliable enough to fall back on to.
Ah, is there any other way to spend another insufferably hot summer than inside my home with a ton of new anime to watch? None, obviously (Okay, maybe some things, but that is definitely number one!). Anyway, this is probably the first time I’ve actually been excited for the summer anime season! With my curiosity about Dangan Ronpa finally being fulfilled, the sure-to-be-amazingly-animated FREE anime finally being released, and a generous amount of anime of different genres for me to try out, I can’t wait to get started watching and blogging them. With that, I’ll leave you with Metanorn’s always amazing summer guide to pick out the anime you’ll be checking out while (hopefully) in a nice, air-conditioned room~
If you’re at all familiar with the posts I’ve done, you can probably guess that the show I’m most looking forward to next season is a certain thing by Shaft, a studio I’ve been a fan of for a very long time now. Though maybe I’m an even longer (though less enthusiastic) fan of Kyoto Animation, which has been making a splash (hurr) with its new swimming anime. I’m hoping this will be more Hyouka than Chu2koi, though I think we’re probably gonna get a sort of K-On. A show I’m quite confident I”ll love, though, is The World God Only Knows, a franchise that’s had two hilarious seasons with fine work by the lovable Hiro Shimono as lead. I’m sure I’ll check out plenty of other shows in that first week and fall in love with some of them – that new anime by the same author of Working!! and the one about girls with airsoft guns look like they could be right up my alley.
Summer is here! This season, we get a wide array of sizzling hot shows ranging from magical girls (4 of them, even) to wet bishies and everything in between. Not to mention, there are a handful of sequels to keep our appetite for more whetted. Gatchaman (though technically not a direct sequel), Genshiken, and Rozen Maiden bring a blast from the past, returning after a whopping 19, 7, and 8 years, respectively! TWGOK jumps ahead to the juicier bits of the story, though whether skipping material is a good idea remains to be seen. And of course, we can never forget about the Monogatari series, which I’m sure you already know is getting a much anticipated “second season”. I guess they only count Nisemonogatari as a side story? Anyway, there’s lots of good material to watch, so sit back and enjoy some anime in the comfortable, air-conditioned confines of your home while temperatures reach unbearable levels outside!
I’m always interested in a new anime season, although it’s always tinged with a little bit of sadness because it means that the old shows that I liked are going away. But enough melancholy! I don’t go in for “this season looks worse / better than the last season” stuff anymore, because there’s always something I like to watch, and that’s what makes life fun. So take a look through all these new shows, and see what you think might tickle *your* fancy! As for me, I’ll probably be trying ALL of it. 😀

Not so late this time as well or so we’d like to think! Enjoy the hawt graphics and our review overload as per your fancy. As always, we have made the list comprehensive yet compact enough for you to ogle over in one go so be ready to…

Can’t wait for the Goddess Arc!

    • Foshizzel says:

      Himeeeee! Yeah same here 😀

    • Kyokai says:

      Should be epic! 😀

    • amado says:

tbh, unless its a 2 cour, I doubt the goddess arc will come this season.

      • Jrow says:

The anime is titled Goddess Arc and promo pictures show a couple of them in it, so I think it’s safe to say they’ll do the Goddess arc this season.

I have read that they’re skipping several girls and chapters to go straight to this point in the series.

        • amado says:

late reply but they shouldnt do that.
because each of the girls arc, while standalone, are relevant and play a part in the overall scheme of the story.

  2. Gecko says:

Gatchaman Crowds- I’ve found that animes with bright colors and wacky styles tend to be the ones I enjoy. So sign me up!

FantasistaDoll – Well, some cute stuff wouldn’t be bad. The gray-haired girl looks cute enough. It’s summer, I can waste time all I want.

Kara no Kyoukai- I’ve seen movie 1, and thought it was pretty good. I’ll give this a chance since it might be my only way to remember to watch the entire series.

Servant x Service – I liked Working!! so why not?

Uchouten Kazoku – I’ll give PA Works another chance with the spirituality/folklore stuff. Sounds like there might be more answers if the Tengu are already there.

Code Geass – I’m guessing we’ll finally get to watch it in October, knowing how late the last one was. But yay! More Code Geass!

SHORT PEACE- If I remember to watch them, they might be interesting. (???)

…and I’m not watching Free. No thank you. I’ll watch Lovelab before I watch Free.

    • Namika says:

Code Geass is always good, so I don’t mind waiting a little longer. <3

    • Namika says:

      wait, you’re not watching free? 😀 first person who doesn’t 😀 😀 😀

      • Gecko says:

Yeah, KyoAni’s stuff has never really impressed me that much. I think Suzumiya Haruhi was really the only one I liked that much from them. And even then, the second season was awful because of the Endless Eight.

Yeah… I was on swim team for sports credit, so that puts me off because I hate exercising. And then a bunch of guys? Eh, not what I want.

        • Namika says:

I don’t think I’ve watched anything from KyoAni. I just want to see that bishie fest 😀

          • BlackBriar says:

You might have watched some KyoAni stuff and didn’t realize it. There’s Hyouka, Tamako Market and Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!

            • skylion says:

Or, I as refer to it, the KyoAni Triple Play. The pleasure of watching this art from go from the Summer of 2012 to the end of Winter 2013 was glorious and beautiful.

            • Namika says:

I’ve watched only two KyoAni shows. Inuyasha and Air. Well, I didn’t finish air, but I liked the first several episodes.

            • Highway says:

Hyouka started 2 weeks late in Spring 2012. 😛

And how could you not have watched those shows? They’re such well-told stories!

            • Namika says:

I wasn’t interested in them at all, for some reason.

      • Irenesharda says:

Not really watching it either. Honestly, the commercial, nor the trailer attracted me, despite all the fujoshi bait. I’ve never been that interested in sports animes, and honestly none of the boys look that interesting.

        • Namika says:

I’ve never been interested in sports anime before either, but I’m all over Kuroko no Basket 😀

          • BlackBriar says:

I have trouble finding any interest in sports anime. They just don’t work for me.

            • skylion says:

I’m not a big fan either, but I think Chihayafuru blends genres of sports, romance, and karuta so well. Man, I would love to be able to play that, or develop and English language version.

            • Highway says:

Best Sports Anime: Girls und Panzer

It helps that it might be the best anything anime, too. 🙂

            • BlackBriar says:

Hmmm…. That’s a bit more army than sports.

            • skylion says:

              Nah, more sports than army.

And yes, one of the best anime evar.

              Lovely Spam, Wonderful Spam.

      • BlackBriar says:

There might be a second person on that list depending on how things will go.

    • Kyokai says:

I’ll be your guide for KnK watch but for fun, you should definitely try out Free. xD

  3. BlackBriar says:

This is amazing! It hasn’t been a full 24 hours yet and this post has over 200 comments. Man, talk about dedication from the commenters!

    • skylion says:

The boys are, indeed, and as they say, in the yard.

      • BlackBriar says:

        More specifically, the big boys!

        • anaaga says:

I like how both of you guys are so “close” with each other through Metanorn~ <3 though that might sound wrong, coming from me

          • BlackBriar says:

We’ve known you for a while so it’s to be expected. It’s just the usual fujoshi fashion. And we’re not exactly close. We’re fighting over two blonde haired loli vampires so this guy is my arch rival. 😛

            • skylion says:

Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. I think that speaks for itself. You go on with your bad self, anaaga.

              This rivalry will continue…

    • Foshizzel says:

ahahaha yesssss more comments for the comment gods!!!

      • BlackBriar says:

This is a big offering so they had better be grateful!!

        • Kyokai says:

Spammy is getting fat just because of this.

          • BlackBriar says:

Then he had better enjoy himself because he won’t have anything like this until next season.

  4. anaaga says:

I already spent hours catching up to 15+ episodes, so I’m pretty sure I won’t disappear now.
    Putting that aside
FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! And there is also Gintama <3 Need moar Gintama love <3

    • Kyokai says:

      Welcome back, ana-chwaaan~ <333

    • Namika says:

  5. Irenesharda says:

Well, lets’s see, other than continuing MJP and Attack on Titan as they go one to their second half, as well as surfing the forums and web for all the Valvrave news I can until its second season in the fall. I have found a few summer shows that have caught my attention:

    Watching
    Brothers Conflict
    Gatchaman Crowds
    Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi

    Maybe
    Blood Lad

Will Watch w/Extreme Caution (possible “drop” material)
    Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist
    Kara no Kyoukai

    • Kyokai says:

You just made me sad with that maybe list. 🙁

      • Gecko says:

I’m surprised you weren’t saddened by the extreme caution list more so than the maybe list.

        • Irenesharda says:

I honestly haven’t heard of Kara no Kyoukai until I saw this anime catalogue. I had previously, made my choices by looking at Random Curiosity’s Summer list, however “Kyoukai” was not even on their list of shows when I went through it. So, when I saw it on here, I went through theirs again to see if I could get a better understanding on what the show was about. However, again I didn’t find it…that is, until I scrolled through the OVA section and found it listed there, saying that it was simply a re-release of a series that had already come out.

That was a bit of a disappointment to me, so I might or might not watch the show. I’ll at least see the first episode to see if it grabs my attention.

Who knows? I might love it. For this past season, DS2 started out being the show that I was most excited about, I thought Valvrave was going to be paint-by-numbers and cliche, and I wasn’t even going to bother with Gargantia. However, I ended up dropping DS2 after the first episode, Valvrave went on to be my favorite show of the season, and while Gargantia has had it’s ups and downs, it was much better than I originally gave it credit for.

          • Kyokai says:

Seems like I have to point out my love for Type-Moon work and this being Nasu’s prototype that followed success stories of fate/stay night VN and later on Fate/Zero light-novel and anime. The reason I said its quality can match any anime of today even when this series of movies released in theaters starting 2007. Though, I’ll let you make your mind during its actual broadcast, which will be chronological and skipping two parts because one of them is too much of a mindfuck to be broadcasted under a one cour. xD

            • Irenesharda says:

I tried to get an idea of what the show was about from the summary you wrote, but I still don’t know anything about it, other that that it looks pretty.

Can you clarify a little? What is the overall premise exactly?

            • Kyokai says:

@ Irene, what a difficult question you have asked me but no worries, I have written this recommendation post just for this purpose. Here you go: http://metanorn.net/2011/05/recommendation-kara-no-kyoukai

Note: some comments are spoilerish so better stay till the post text.

        • Kyokai says:

Actually, I meant the Extreme caution list rather than maybe list. I like Blood Lad’s premise but damn, Kara no Kyoukai is > everything else. :3

          • Gecko says:

Yeah, I was worried that you were suddenly going to have to switch your name or something. Whew!

            • Kyokai says:

That’s never going to happen. xD

            • BlackBriar says:

After nearly three years here, I coukdn’t imagine you changing your name.

            • Kyokai says:

No worries BB, I will forever be the epic Kyokai. xD

            • BlackBriar says:

I never had any worries about that, Kyo.

      • Irenesharda says:

Well, I’m not too sure on Blood Lad. I haven’t seen any of the source material and even from the PVs it looks like it might just be too crazy for my tastes. However, I will give it a go just to see if I like it.

I mean, I like vampire comedies, but I’m going to tread carefully. 🙂

        • BlackBriar says:

If you’re into vampire stuff then you are so in luck. We know this season has Blood Lad but next season, not only will there be more Valvrave but there are two more vampire animes that will be along for the ride.

          • Irenesharda says:

It all depends on the vampire. I hold Trinity Blood as a classic, but I thought Vampire Knight was crap. Millennium Snow, while unfinished is still one of my favorite manga.

I sort of like my vamps in the middle, definitely not “Twilight” level, but a little milder than “Hellsing” or “Vampire Hunter D” level. It all depends on how the story’s executed.

However, I will keep on a look out for the ones coming in the fall, and give Blood Lad a try. 🙂

            • BlackBriar says:

There’s just something about vampires that’s alluring. I have a bunch of manga names regarding the genre. Trust me.

Total agreement on Trinity Blood. In fact, I have the Funimation box set of it. What’s intriguing about it is the futuristic, the acts of trying to establish peaceful co-existence between humans and vampires and the unique creation of having a type of vampire that feeds on other vampires. In the series, my favorite female vamp happens to be Astharoshe Asran and the best couple would be between Ion Fortuna and Esther Blanchett.

I watched Vampire Knight simply because there were vamps in it, the biting scenes and how hot Yuuki became when she turned out to be a pureblood.

Hellsing was a blast (The action was good but what kept me coming back was Alucard badassery and Seras being smokin hot) and I only remember seeing only one of the “Vampire Hunter D” movies. The oldest show for me would be Vampire Princess Miyu though I’ve only seen the four OVA and yet to see the series itself.

If you haven’t seen them yet, I recommend you check out Dance in the Vampire Bund and Shiki but I put extremely strong recommendation on the latter because it will have asking a bunch of moral questions. Overcooled can vouch for that one.

            • skylion says:

I’m getting the files right now. Expect a report on my viewing within a small time frame.

            • BlackBriar says:

Oh, right. I remember that I exposed you to Shiki and Karakuri to Trinity Blood. Heeheehee, if I stay this course, I’ll create more vampire followers in no time.

            • Kyokai says:

VK was shit, period. I love Millennium Snow manga! The mangaka is same as Ouran and I hope she finishes it sometime soon.

            • Irenesharda says:

Hey BB, I just looked up Shiki and DitVB. Both look interesting from their premises. I’m deciding whether to see it subbed or dubbed, any suggestions?

I usually do subbed, unless I think the english voice cast actually adds to the experience (Such as with FMA and Baccano for example). What do you think?

            • BlackBriar says:

@Irenesharda: Both Dance in the Vampire Bund and Shiki are awesome in their way. You won’t regret watching them. Actually, I haven’t seen the dubs for either one of the shows to give a full opinion so naturally I’d have to recommend the subs.

            • Irenesharda says:

Watched a couple of episodes of Shiki and one of Vampire Bund. Shiki has me hooked, so thank you for suggesting it! 😀 I love the creepy psychological mystery of it. Vampire Bund, ehhhh…not so much. It took all I had to get through the first episode. I love vampyr hierarchy, but I just can’t get into this one. Mina is cool, but not enough to draw me in. (Besides, Mavis Dracula has been Dracula’s only official daughter in my mind since seeing H. Transylvania. 😛 )

            • Kyokai says:

Oh tch, BB, you tried to sell naked lolis again? 😛

            • BlackBriar says:

@Irenesharda: I really think you should give Vampire Bund another shot. The first episode was more of a troll yet the moment for the vampires to reveal themselves. Don’t let it turn you away. The real story starts in the second episode and Mina uses a lot of political and underhanded tactics to secure her people’s existence.

            • Irenesharda says:

I might go back to Vampire Bund later. It stars a loli vamp, who are rarely enjoyable for me. I really don’t like vampire “children” much in any medium. As for Shiki, I’m really getting into it. It completely won me over when they actually used real science to try to understand the blood loss. I was some stuff I knew and some stuff I had to look up; when anime actually teaches me something related to my career, I have to give it kudos! 😀

Though I do have to ask, how the heck does no one know these people are vampires?! They’re almost as obvious as the Cullens from Twilight! Didn’t the soulless eye voids not give them away?

            • BlackBriar says:

              @Irenesharda:

Though I do have to ask, how the heck does no one know these people are vampires?! They’re almost as obvious as the Cullens from Twilight! Didn’t the soulless eye voids not give them away?

The reason no one suspects the Kirishikis of being vampires is because most of the residents have been completely consumed by modern rationalism, that monsters don’t exist in their world, so they’ve abandoned all notion of the occult. Some probably think the black voids for eyes are a side effect of a disease. After all, Sunako slipped under Seishin’s radar explaining she can’t go out during the day because she has a disease where she gets sick if she’s exposed to ultraviolet light.

As for the Cullens being obvious thing, I’m pretty sure it all goes back to modern rationalism. After all, these days, nothing is taken seriously unless there is concrete proof of its existence.

        • BlackBriar says:

Just to be safe, I think you should give Blood Lad and other animes this season the three episode test. Though I’m a bit skeptical about the vampire and comedy genres coming together.

    • skylion says:

I’ve come to respect your taste, so please let me know what you think of Brother’s Conflict. It’s not really my sort of bag, but I kinda had that one on the borderline of interest…

      • Irenesharda says:

I’m going to try it out. It can either get “Amnesia” bad or it could be “Ouran” good. I’m fascinated by the fact that somehow, one woman was able to give birth to every single anime male trope in the book. (and I thought 1000% and Amnesia were bad…) I’m usually not into the whole “brother and sister getting together” card, even if they are step-siblings. However, this show may have some potential that might go beyond the average reverse harem, so I’m giving it a go.

Well, see how it goes. Honestly, Summer doesn’t seem to have too much to offer for me. I don’t do most SoLs and anything with 90% of the characters are moe lolis. So, I was down to a list of 4-5.

        • skylion says:

We are on the inverse track. SoL and Moe LOLi are right in my bag. If Metanorn influence is any indication, I will have you a fan of Kiniro Mosaic at the very least.

          • Irenesharda says:

It would have to be one drama-packed SoL. It would have to be good, and I mean “Fruits Basket” level good.

        • skylion says:

I think I would like Ouran, if I could track the files down. I didn’t like either 1000 or 2000 at the gate; maybe I am a hypocrite. But again, keep us in the loop for BroCon.

          • Irenesharda says:

Ouran is awesome. I have both subbed and dubbed on DVD. One of the few reverse harems that was done absolutely perfectly. I think that most of the credit goes to an excellent MC heroine that defied the grain, and a bunch of male characters that while outwardly appearing to be cliche tropes, had deeper characters that defied the stereotypes.

        • Karakuri says:

Er, a bit of a warning for BroCon going above average, it probably won’t get there until about half way. The first bit is the “let’s get all of the characters in love with the heroine using really stereotypical cliches and have them have petty fights!” it’s not until they all start confessing within a short span of time where Ema sits back and goes “oh shit how do I solve this without anyone jumping off a bridge?”

Though again, this is all the novels. The game was waaaay less dramatic when it came to siblings fighting.

        • d-LaN says:

If anything, the female lead is ady 80-90* better than the one in AMNESIA just by the virtue of her talking time.

      • Irenesharda says:

        Hey, Skylion:

Okay, after watching the premiere of Brothers Conflict, I have to say that I really, really struggled with it. It looks like it’s going the “Amnesia” rout of having a personality-less female, and unfortunately, her 13 brothers are just as boring! It also has a talking animal mascot in case you’re one of those who are bothered by talking cute animals. However, what’s sad is that that squirrel was more interesting than any of the humans in this show. I’m going to give it the “3-episode” trial and hope that it gets better, but it’s not looking good. 🙁

Strangely enough, I tried Free! just for the heck of it, and found that way better. Sure it’s teeming with fujoshi goodies, but all of those characters are actually interesting! It’s not a great show, at least not yet, but it has potential.

        • Karakuri says:

I was really surprised at Ema not having a personality since she’s THE most enthusiastic person in the game. I think they might be going for a Narukami Yu/Persona 4 thing with her where she opens up and gets more of a personality as the series goes on (aka as she gets more accustomed to the family). …Since that’s almost all of the character development she’s getting (aside from the novel ending plot, if they choose to follow it, with her making decisions).

…Or maybe this adaptation will just be bland, but I’m really hoping for what I said above.

          • d-LaN says:

Am i the only one who thinks she have a functional if not weak personality?

            • Irenesharda says:

Well, she is a little better than Heroine in the fact that she at least speaks. But she’s so soft-spoken and boring, that she’s not that much better. In reverse harems I appreciate stronger female MCs that just don’t get by on their sweetness and being demure, and let their surrounding males just lead them around without response. That’s the feeling I’m getting with BroCon and unless they fix it, I’m dropping the thing, just like all other badly written reverse harem series.

          • Highway says:

Where was there time for her to have a personality with all that horrible stilted introducing every brother had. It was like they all took William Shatner Acting Lessons. 🙂

I figure the only one with a distinct personality at this point is Kamiyan-squirrel. Which isn’t surprising, since he had half the lines in the episode.

            • Karakuri says:

“I know you! You’re –fill in brother name and number here– who does –fill in occupation here-!” xD

            • Highway says:

You forgot “Stay away from him, he’s a wolf! *grrrrrr*”

            • Irenesharda says:

LOL, that’s exactly how it was! 😛
Those brothers have as much personality as cardboard cutouts, each fitting their own particular cliched trope. I could not for the life of me remember any of their names, except the redhead with hair like Amy from Gargantia. And the only reason I remember that, is because he has the same name as my car!

All of them also have all the cliched occupations. When Chi fell out, all I said was “there has to be a doctor among them, I refuse to believe that they have monk, a hairdresser, and a singing idol, but no doctor.” And sure enough, it was the eldest.

But what I really what to know is, who is the mother of these boys? Who the heck gave birth to all 13 of these boys, and where are their father(s)? Was it amazingly one father (which I highly doubt, since these boys have a rainbow of phenotypes.) or if it was multiple, was this woman married several times or just sleeping around? And how old is this woman, seeing as her eldest is in his 30s and her youngest is 10? Or are they just all adopted?
Believe me, all of those questions, are wayyy more interesting than what BroCon is showing.

Let’s just have a story about the parents and how they met, came together and decided to form a family. Him, an irresponsible and absent father who has yet to truly grow up, and her, a mother in over her head with 13 boys to parent. Now that, might be interesting.

            • Karakuri says:

I hate to stop your speculating, Irenesharda, but Miwa (their mother)’s story is generic as it gets. Her husband is dead. They’re all her children (minus one for sure) because screw genetics. Though at least one of them has admitted to dying his hair. …Not that it explains the pink eyes and other weird hair/eye combinations some of them have.

…Long story short, if the character dimensions are annoying you now, it’s probably going to annoy you the entire way through. I can’t remember any of the characters going beyond their stereotypes in the games/novels. The heartwarming family vibes (once this gets past the introduction phase) and character interactions were what I like the most about the franchise. I think those are worth watching for at least.

            • Irenesharda says:

Oh well, I was trying to save it from being a total loss. I don’t know if I can last that long in order to get to the supposedly good parts of this series, or to even see if this series is going to even stick closely to the LN.

            • Highway says:

I will wait for further discussion for Kara’s first impressions post 🙂

  6. Namika says:

OMG I almost forgot Recorder to Randeoseru! *O*
That anime is freaking adorable! That cops joke did get repetitive, but I still think this anime is really cute, cheerful and positive. <3 nyan

  7. belatkuro says:

Love the banner from Fate/Kaleid. Just saw it a few days ago. Though that picture is from the 3rei series and it’s a bit spoilerish, especially that one wearing red. Heck, except for Illya, all of them won’t appear till much later. And one person in the back was cut out 🙁

    • Kyokai says:

I think Ness picked it up for its epicness. Kinda sad, we won’t be seeing it this season.

  8. Kyokai says:

Congratulations everyone! This post has broken the record of most commented post on Metanorn. ^^

    • d-LaN says:

Watch as the same thing happened again with next season preview post ;P

      You guys are spamming monsters.

      • Kyokai says:

Spamming? I’m sure some of our regulars will have a field day with this. *takes front-seat with a bag of popcorn*

        • BlackBriar says:

Oh, no need to speculate. We are!! I, myself, never thought I’d be posting comments this much. Surely there’s at least 50 of mine floating around on this post alone.

      • BlackBriar says:

Monsters? No, we’re spamming legends!! 🙂

    • BlackBriar says:

Whoa, nice! Metanorn never ceases to make milestones.

    • Namika says:

      cool ^_^

    • Overcooled says:

It was neat to go away then come back to a season preview with OVER 400 COMMENTS. It’s a party in here! Just imagine if the lurkers pitched in too…

      • Kyokai says:

Good to have you back, OC! If our lurkers came out, oh mannnn, it’ll get over 1000+++

      • BlackBriar says:

Welcome back, OC! Yeah, we’ve been partying hard and it’s still going on!

  9. JapanInspired says:

wow, kind of a lot to watch this summer.
Lol, so much people are waiting for FREE 🙂 The trailer looks so nicely animated.

    • Kyokai says:

I was kinda pessimistic but Summer doesn’t look so bad now. And yeah, KyoAni’s behind Free! after all.

      • BlackBriar says:

Pessimism is natural when something new comes along. But I’ll give this Summer some credit for looking better than last year’s.

  10. Highway says:

Here’s some good information for you: When do new shows start!

    http://hashihime.blogspot.com/2013/06/new-season-starts-tomorrow.html

Thanks to Hashi for putting the list together. Looks like Thursdays and Saturdays are huge, but no days like this season with absolutely nothing.

    • BlackBriar says:

Thanks for the head’s up. Man, Thursdays and Saturdays are the heavy artillery. No matter, my external hard drive is still holding out strong. Excluding Nyaruko-san S2, with the second seasons of Symphogear and High School DxD, I’ve noticed anime sequels are being put 15 months after the original. Both Symphogear and High School DxD started out Winter 2012.

    • Karakuri says:

Ah, looks like I’ll be busy all week then~ (thanks for posting this here Highway)

      • skylion says:

I just watched Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou, or as CR calls it Dog and Scissors.

Impressive debut, the writer is the Screenwriter for Towa no Quon, an excellent show by many writes. Also served as Series Compositor and episode script writer for Inu x Boku SS.

        Very quirky, very fun stuff.

        • Highway says:

I really enjoyed Inu to Hasami, and when it was over wanted it to keep going. Much more than I wanted to watch Mushibugyou. So instead, you guys actually got some work out of me (screenshots for Photo Kano and Special Guest Show). 🙂

      • BlackBriar says:

The question is: How to organize the list into the daily schedule? Thursdays are going to Danganronpa, Rozen Maiden and Symphogear night. And we got Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya, Monogatari Series: Second Season, Kami-sama no Inai Nichiyoubi, High School DxD New and Blood Lad on the weekends. It’s going to be packed.

        • skylion says:

I wish I could give you advice on that; but mine is typically :Monday…watch everything….but the one or two that I need like oxygen.

          • BlackBriar says:

Well, for some shows, you could pile up the episodes like every two or three weeks and marathon through it. I did that with Minami-ke Tadaima and currently with Majestic Prince, Arata Kangatari and Naruto Shippuden.

            • skylion says:

I still manage to watch week to week, this season was a bit easier, but Winter 13 was a challenge to keep up on that basis. Summer looks to be just insane. I will just have to play it fast and loose to keep up week to week without a backlog. All three of my jobs, family commitments, dating, etc just pile up during the summer. And I’ve choosen 32 shows this season.

Ganbaru! ::slaps face just like Ohana::

            • BlackBriar says:

One thing I can say for certain is that this Summer looks better than last year’s so it’s going to be trouble following them. Last Summer we had:

              Rinne no Lagrange S2
              Sword Art Online
              Oda Nobuna no Yabou
              Arcana Famiglia
              Hagure Yuusha no Estetica
              Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse
              Binbougami ga!
Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai
              Campione!
              Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate
Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru!

          • Karakuri says:

Oh my god has it really been a year since Who is Imouto and all of those anime? Time really flies OTL

            • BlackBriar says:

Yes, time does fly indeed. As just so you know, this Spring actually made it a year since the first half of Jormungand and Tasogare Otome x Amnesia were released. And Tasogare has already been dubbed by Sentai.

        • Highway says:

For me it’s “When it is available, watch it.” Sometimes I’ll float things to the next day, especially if they’re Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (since those are WoW raid days).

I see probably about 30 series I’ll start off watching. That’s way more than before. We’ll see how many I keep up with, but my last few seasons have averaged about 19.

          • Karakuri says:

Ahaha it’s always interesting to see how everyone else watches things.

For me, it’s basically -watch whatever I’m blogging/whatever really catches my attention and marathon everything else when I feel like it- Whenever I do something like try to follow multiple shows consistently, I get distracted by older stuff. Hell, I think I still have 3 episodes or so of Senran Kagura left from a season ago, but I’m never in the mood to watch it.

            • BlackBriar says:

Pfft! Hahaha!!! I feel the same way when I’m watching multiple shows one after the next. This year so far, I haven’t finished Tamako Market, Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru and I’m struggling right now to consider continuing Arata Kangatari. There’s four episodes left me to go over. It was the same for Karneval but that recently got dealt with.

            • Highway says:

Heh, I never have problems with that. I pretty much watch everything every week. And then backlog other stuff when it’s light or I’m all caught up on Sunday.

I mean, you can’t comment on posts about the show if you haven’t seen it, right? And that’s most of the fun of anime, right? Right?

            • BlackBriar says:

I mean, you can’t comment on posts about the show if you haven’t seen it, right? And that’s most of the fun of anime, right? Right?

It’s true that you can’t comment on posts haven’t seen the episodes. That’s a factor if the series is being blogged but it’s no rules if it’s one that’s not being blogged. That’s when you’re free to pile up episodes week after week then burn through them after a certain period of time.

            • skylion says:

At this point the only real backlog I care to finish is for TWGOK. I just spent a great deal of time for the past three hours watching Psychic School Wars two times. I am deeply deeply deeply in love with that film. The same guy that wrote it, did the character design for, and directed it, also did those same three jobs for Aiura. I am soooo hoping he does more in the future. This movie was the anime version of Stephen Moffat’s Doctor Who. It’s brilliant.

            • Karakuri says:

@BB Ahahaha Tamako Market sat on my computer FOREVER until one day I was in a KyoAni mood and I watched it all in a day. My anime moods are really fickle and if I don’t feel like watching it, I just can’t sit through it (excluding what I’m blogging. …Though you saw a bit of that with Arcana Famiglia last year where I had like, 6 episodes of procrastination). xD

@Highway I’m just so used to lurking (and if I wasn’t part of the MetaTeam, I still wouldn’t have a comment to my name to this day. …But I’d still be here). I’ll read posts and agree with people/have things to say, but never comment. Ahahaha.

            • skylion says:

1@Karakuri. Just to show how broad our desire are: I actually held off a few jobs, and a few personal connections just because, “It’s Wendsday. Tamako Market is on…I CAN”T MISS THAT!”

            • BlackBriar says:

Wow, that’s dedication. I take off my off my hat in respect to you, sir.

            • Highway says:

There are definitely shows I make time for, to the extent of being disappointed if I couldn’t watch Girls und Panzer or Dansai Bunri or RDG after my raid, or watching other stuff during the say so I can watch SSY after dark on Saturday evening.

But really, I never fall that far behind, and am always champing at the bit to watch more.

And Kara, I thought you didn’t watch AF for so long because it was *terrible*.

            • Karakuri says:

And Kara, I thought you didn’t watch AF for so long because it was *terrible*.

Yeah pretty much. I wasn’t in the mood to watch *terrible* anime (I do get those moods sometimes, thus why I’ve watched all of the Boku no Pico OVAs), and if it’s -that- bad, I won’t force myself to watch it either. If the anime has redeeming qualities and I’m blogging it, I’ll push myself through an episode even when I don’t feel like watching Romcom/whatever.

              …So both reasons, really.

  11. skylion says:

I’m trying to maximize some of my backlog. Given that I am four episodes into Fate/Zero, is that the right series for me to watch to fully (and I do mean fully) appreciate Prisma Illya? Should I go for /Stay Night? Or do I really need to fully appreciate the source material to enjoy a Magical Girl show such as this?

    Kyo? Counting on you…

    • Kyokai says:

I think you are good with Fate/Zero only because I never recommend Fate/stay night anime to anyone (it’s nowhere close to the VN at all & I watched it for lulz). You’ll already see the major character in Fate/Zero (Rin, Illya, Shiro – Illya’s bro, Kiri and Iri), so you don’t need to know a lot for getting into Prisma Illya, which is a spinoff of an alternate timeline, if fate/stay night never happened.

Hope this helps reducing your backlog. 😉

  12. skylion says:

Let go of my question, Spammy!

  13. skylion says:

BTW. Since I got all interested, where can I find Kara no Kyoukai, good subtitles. I’ve searched around and can’t find a darn thing.

    • skylion says:

      The TV broadcasts, that is…

      • Kyokai says:

I’ve only found raws for it and they are even coming out with one week delay. Though, no worries, I plan to cover them movie-wise if actual subs don’t come out. I’ll point you to the right direction. 😉
