Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S – 02

I fully support the shipping of Saten x Misaka, but don’t tell Kuroko!

Welcome back for another week of awesome stuff with more Railgun S here on Metanorn! I can’t tell you how excited I am to cover this series, but I have a feeling we are going to have a few random filler episodes ahead of us for a while or will we just jump into the story with the other Misaka clones? I guess we shall find out today.

More super powered science!

Taking advantage over timy Misaka is bad! Damn these evil science types!

Saten-“You think I should invite Misaka to a love hotel next time?”        Uiharu-“EHHHHHHHHHH!”

Last week returned us to the wonderful world of Railgun complete with Misaka kicking some bad guy ass, but with this episode we are trade in the awesome super powers for a bit of backstory with Misaka’s past involvement with some sketch scientists that you could say honestly took advantage of her kind heart and desire to help people. That said, the idea of evil scientists is really nothing new for fans of both Index and Railgun because both series have their fair share of those characters. So what is the deal with Misaka’s past anyway? For starters her power was originally going to be used to help people that suffer from various muscle diseases or Muscular dystrophy for short which is something I can easily relate towards because I also have a form of Musular dystrophy called Duchenne muscular dystrophy. I think the original goal was to use Misaka’s eclectic based power to stimulate the dead nerves to get the dead muscles cells to wake up? I have seen case studies like this one and here if you are curious to read more, but I mean in terms of plot obviously the scientist is into some shady stuff and us ultimately tricking her into giving them some DNA! I am sure we will get even more info on her past with each passing episode.

Extra fun with Kurko and Misaka

This was the best day of Kuroko’s life.

railgunz (3)

Watch out Touma wall-kun is aiming for your waifu!

railgunz (4)

Kuroko-“Who the hell left that banana peel on the ground!?”

railgunz (6)

Saten-“Hmmmm I must find the treasure inside Misaka’s heart.”

Ending video!

End thoughts

Hooray free money! I think Saten’s true ESP might be money detection because she was tracking down all the free cash cards that were hidden all over town and yeah the plot of this episode was kind of boring, but then again they are pushing us right into the Misaka sister arc really fast and that can’t be a bad thing right? I am curious to see how this season of Railgun ties into season one of Index! Yes you heard me correct Index does in fact play a role because the opening we see a quick shot of Accelerator who is wearing a black shirt which you could say is the evil version while the white shirt version is somewhat good version; however I wouldn’t really call Accelerator a heroic character anyway maybe he is more of an anti-hero type? Besides Saten randomly smelling for money all over town we got to meet a new character named Shinobu Nunotaba who appears to be a level zero? While she has no real power she uses her words to scare you into thinking she has this one shot ability and she uses lots of random English words, but yeah the story was kind of boring this week; however this is just a bridge episode that is leading us to the real plot next time.

shinobu is part of the main plot which will begin next episode

  2. skylion says:

    Saten=Level One Rumour Sniffer.
    Shinobu=awesome character, bluff works
    Accelerater =Bad Ass

  3. PrimeHector says:

What are these lies? Saten is level 6 in our hearts.

  4. HannoX says:

I thought this was a good episode. But then any anime episode with Misaka is a good episode. Both of these first two episode have been reintroducing the characters, especially to those who may not be familiar with them, and laying the ground work for when the main story really gets underway.

It would seem that Shinobu’s power is hypnotic suggestion. Her words worm their way deep into your psyche and go to work stimulating your atavistic fears until they overwhelm you.

And yes, Saten’s power is rumor sniffing and money finding, but I think her level is greater than Level One.

I support the shipping of Misaka x Kuroko and that of Saten x Uiharu.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah not a bad episode overall and of course we get to see some new characters like Shinobu? She is so damn mysterious and I love it! Yeah her “power” is basically word related she knows what words to use that freak you out xD

Saten’s power over money is important <3

Truth but it is always fun watching Misaka and Saten interact with each other and of course Kuroko x Misaka is kind of officially canon hahaha

  5. BlackBriar says:

The start with the patients suffering from muscular dystrophy while trying to regain what’s lost was sad to watch. That’s like being trapped in your own body while your life is slowly fading away. And coincidentally, I read that one of Funimation’s voice actresses, Carrie Savage was recently diagnosed with it. While the scientist are bastards for manipulating Misaka, one can say it’s a necessary evil if they actually keep their word and use her DNA to help the patients.

A good episode. Since this is covering the sister’s arc and if I’m guessing the timeline right, both seasons of Railgun are squeezed into the middle of the first season of Index. Between the first episode where Touma and Misaka met on the bridge up to the ones where Accelerator first appeared. Was so much really going on behind the scenes?

Had I been in Academy City, I’d hunt all over the place for those cards like Saten though actually sniffing for them humorously pushed the envelope. Based on the desperation of those looking for them as Uiharu described, spreading the cards would have been a serious enough tool to cause chaos and social disorder (Joker or Makishima, anyone?) because some even dared to tread into Skill Out territory.

Shinobu trolled them big time and even I bought her story. She was getting so close to the guy’s neck that I thought she was going to bite him. What I’m getting from her interaction with Misaka is jealously.

    • Foshizzel says:

I had no idea about Carrie Savage being diagnosed with MD that is kind of a surprise! For me it just runs in my family and mostly the males have it while most the women on my mom’s side of the family are carriers of the disease meaning if they have any boys there is a slight chance they could have MD in them? Then again, I don’t know how it all works because I have a few cousins without it? Yeah genetics isn’t my strong point xD

Yeah Railgun S is going to slide right into the whole sisters thing especially with Touma meeting one of the clones that took care of a black kitten, but it’s cool I am curious to see how the Touma vs Accelerator fight goes down from Misaka’s pov.

Ah yes Saten the ultimate money tracker! I would partner up with her any day of the week and yeah that is obviously a trap to lure out Misaka or the Misaka sisters? I think…

Shinobu is creeeeepy I wonder if she is a good character or evil? I assume evil because she is seen in the opening walking away from the child version of Misaka, but that brings up another question though how old is Shinobu then?

LOL jealous over Misaka? I can see that.

  6. Highway says:

I tend to prefer when the whole crew is together more than when Saten gets kind of left out on her own. I think what I like the most about the show, tho, is that Misaka’s such a normal person. Not even just compared to the other level 4’s and 5’s, but compared to normal people. She even out-normal’s Saten most of the time, until push comes to shove.

    • Foshizzel says:

This is true, whenever the full team is together they always do amazing things and always win, but for the most part Saten is pushed to the side as the 2nd gag character next to the likes of Kuroko; however she always does something cool like you said Highway~

      MORE SATEN PLZ <3

  7. Highway says:

I think it’s plausible that Misaka’s DNA genome was used truthfully to try to help the research into MD, and then *also* used to start the sisters project, since once you have some, it’s easy to make more. I did have a problem with the skeevy way to get ‘consent’ from a, what, 5 year old girl? That’s playing dirty pool, there.

    • Foshizzel says:

That seems to be a common theme in Railgun with the science side filled with evil scientists, but yeah it is still horrible to think they tricked a 5 year old girl into giving away her DNA like that >.<

      • skylion says:

Every TV Doctor should be Greg House…..

        • skylion says:

          or The Doctor…

“Oh, this DNA has a bit of a welly. Electrifying, you could say. Thou you should avoid spiky haired young me…..you have your arms full with a tiny teleporter anyway…”

        • BlackBriar says:

That guy should be the king of TV doctors but a lot patience is required to deal with him lest he drives up a wall.

          • skylion says:

I don’t know which guy you might be referring to but; if you give one enough narcotics and the other all of time and space to muck about in, dealing with them should be no trouble*. For the given value of the word “trouble”.

*Now remember, House gets the drugs, and The Doctor gets the Tardis. It is important not to mix this up.

  8. elior1 says:

i cant wait to hear misaka clones talk again it funny how they talk and hope the last order will appear in this season

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah the Misaka clones and Last order! I love how all of them talk and the dub actress for Misaka I think does the voices of all the characters xD

  9. Gecko says:

I would love it if Saten could be the first “money detector” ESP. I always feel bad that she doesn’t really have any kind of power while the other girls do, although when she’s a part of the whole group she fits in just fine. Any of the girls alone isn’t really enough, I think. All of them together make it fun to watch.
Shinobu is an interesting character to throw in the mix, with her tricks and attitude.
The doctor irritated me, tricking Misaka like that, but I get the feeling they did try to fix the medical problems and then someone went and did things on their own. So that Misaka didn’t do something completely good or bad.
I’m down for Misaka x Saten, “however” Shinobu x Saten would be funny.

    • Foshizzel says:

Saten Lvl zero = money sniffer!

Agreed Shinobu is a very interesting character so far and I hope we get to see a lot more of her in the future, but I know she has some interaction with Misaka next time so that should be fun to see.

Saten x Shinobu would make for a very odd pairing, but I like it <3

      • Gecko says:

I think once Shinobu gets more screetime, the Saten x Shinobu pairing will become less odd. Saten could open her up to having fun and sniffing out money.
Better yet, Shinobu is the one doing all of the money hiding and hides one specifically for Saten, and Saten finds it and it has Shinobu’s confession in it.
