Gintama – 209
Movie specials are serious business!
Welcome back, Gintama fans! Are you enjoying this series so far? I sure hope so because Gintama needs more love! Well, I think so anyway. Then again we are just starting out again and that means we have to get some updates on some of the lesser Gintama characters like Ayame’s latest two episodes. Anyways, it’s time to review this episode.
Plot this episode is more of a preview of the next massive Gintama movie! And of course the usual off the wall random comedy provided by the other characters.
This is what a Metanorn round square table meeting looks like.
Kagura-“Gin-san! Roll that beautiful movie trailer NOW!!”
Gin-san- “AYE! CAPTAIN!”
At the start we watch Shinpachi, Kagura and Gintoki talking to the viewers basically as they explain what this special episode will be mostly about and that special thing is the next Gintama movie! Before that a song about cardboard from Taizou. Yes, this song goes on for a good ten minutes or so, and then we finally get to see a few bloody and dramatic scenes from the movie. This movie looks more like a hardcore action movie this time around and follows the back story of Gintoki, Katsura and Shinsuke’s past together.
Gintoki and Taizou- “HELL YEAH, IT’S CARDBOARD, BITCH!”
This movie looks so damn badass!
Shinsuke is having the best day ever.
Gintoki, future action star! And Shinsuke, future evil master mind.
Shinpachi- “I can’t wait to star in that movie!” Ginsan-“……..”
After the end of the trailer Kagura, Shinpachi and Gintoki are in a theater together watching, until the others arrive to share their own personal thoughts on what the next movie should be about. Naturally they all want big parts in the next one too! Sorry, all you side–characters, there is always the third movie.

Now the last part of the episode, the always fun teach-me-Gintoki-sensei! This time a female fan asks a hard hitting question. What does it feel like to get hit in the crotch? Yes the best damn question ever, well not really! Gintoki explains to the girl with colorful drawings of a princess wearing protective gear. However, we are not done there! Last part is more about some funny Naruto references with Shinsuke as a student; this time Gintoki asks who stole the Sharingan from Kakashi?
Ginsan- “Oh really, you are going to ask this question?”
Ginsan- “Pay close attention students! To avoid this from happening to you”
Ginsan- “Wear a dress and a helmet…yes that is the perfect solution.”
Shinpachi- “I think there is something in my eye, can I go wash it out?”
Extra fun
Green alien- “I do love these awesome purple lights…yes…lights…”
Shinsuke- “When this is all over I want to become a awesome pirate, guys.”
Ginsan- “AHHHH RAPE! HELP!!” Shinpachi- “You are on your own, bro!” Kagura-“Yeah, bro.”
Gin-san- “Holy Madoka and C world, batman! We are so damned stoned right now!”
End Thoughts:
This episode was so damn funny! Just seeing how the main cast always breaks the forth wall talking to us; that’s one thing Gintama does well. They don’t ever take themselves seriously, which is always a good thing. I can’t forget to talk about that random song about the many uses of cardboard! Only in this series will you see such random stuff like that, well maybe in a series like Nichijou as well.
Now for the whole Gintama movie! Not sure if we were being trolled or we are in fact getting another movie in the future, either way if we do; it’s going to be AMAZING! If not… that’s alright I would give a huge high five to Gintama for some epic trolling of their own fans. However, the current opening does show similar scenes of Gintoki swinging around his sword like a badass! So fingers crossed for a TRUE MOVIE.
I always liked the special ending scenes in Gintama with Gintoki as a teacher; they always put a smile on my face seeing the main cast acting as students too. Well, not so much Kagura and those damn thick glasses. Anyway, I always crack up seeing them do a parody of the big shows. This week we got some One piece and Naruto! Damn Shinpachi and stole that Sharingan! Still some great laughs even if there was no real plot progression.

Next week, start of a brand new arc? Starring the guy from the current running ending, at least I hope so! Prepare for something fun and exciting.

The entire episode is exact recycled footage from the JUMP festival OVA a few years back. The only changes are the 16:9 aspect ratio, different dialog and addition of the cardboard song by MADAO.
Still, the troll is pretty damn priceless, had me rolling on the floor and the hilarity is amplified at how Sunrise managed to get away with it. I love this show XD

I didn’t like this episode. I dislike it when anime recycle or spend lots of time recapping. I am very much looking forward to the next arc as well, so this just delayed it by that much more.

Yeah some of these special episodes are long and boring for most, I dunno why I like them but they are quite fun just seeing all the characters acting a bit random and strange.
Yep! New arc should have some action hopefully.
