Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai – 04

Oh my god. Trap.

Ah man…I should be studying for exams right now. Oh well! xD So AnoHana is officially my favorite show of this season. I just wanted to establish that before I continue. It took me a little while to get over how ridiculous this episode was. Like wow. It was pretty intense. Wooh! Let’s go!

We pick up where we left off in Episode 3 with Yukiatsu’s proclamation that Jinta’s not the only one who can see Menma. He stays behind while Jinta and the rest of the Super Peace Busters head off to find this so called Menma. (And oh my god, I’m not the only one who finds it’s crazy adorable that Menma’s looking for her own ghost right? This girl is almost overflowing my moe-meter. Jeeze!)

God. Can I hug her? Please?

Jinta barely tries to look for Menma #2 before he gets frustrated. He starts to turn back and Anaru stops him by trying to apologize for her friends teasing him that morning. His response is, as Anaru appropriately put it, “not cute at all!” He storms off and Anaru runs after him and slips, almost falling into a creek. Jinta catches her and is pretty pissed off – turns out that was how Menma had died. Anaru confronts him about his feelings for Menma, suggesting that perhaps he’s able to see her because he likes her so much.

They head back up to the barbecue where Yukiatsu claims that his Menma doesn’t want everybody to make a big deal out of some wish and to basically forget about it. My…er…Jinta’s Menma protests and tries to tell everybody that it’s not true…that she’s happy that everybody’s together and thinking of her. Jinta’s the only one who can hear her and offers everybody the muffins that she made. There’s a rather awkward response from Poppo, Anaru and Tsuruko, which, realistically speaking, is understandable. Yukiatsu didn’t have to laugh like that though. Jerk. -.-

Back home, Jinta’s pretty depressed. Menma tries to cheer him up (by being super-duper-adorable). It works to an extent but Jinta is left pondering his feelings and hers. Meanwhile, Tsuruko has done a sketch of Menma and seems to be considering something…Hmmmm…

The next morning Tsuruko drops by with a request for Jinta. They head off and Jinta tries to talk to Yukiatsu about Menma. Yukiatsu’s response is to basically put Jinta down. Once again: Jerk. Afterwards Yukiatsu goes home and is rather pissed off. He opens his closet and calls forth his Menma. Creepy…

“Menma…I SUMMON THEE!!!”

Finally, they all meet at their childhood fort for a last ditch attempt to find this new Menma. Poppo declares that everybody being together and fulfilling her wish sounds just like something Menma wants. Menma pounces on him in glee and Poppo can definitely sense her presence to some extent. God these two are just SO frickin’ LOVABLE. He goes outside to pee (Menma: “Let’s pee together!!!” xD) and rushes back inside to exclaim that he’s seen the ghost Menma! They all run in pursuit.

And then…I fell in love with Tsuruko. This part was too epic for words. I’ll just show it:

“But…I even used Nair!!! I waxed my armpits too~”

She just busted him. Damn. You go girl. And after one final chase they find him. Yukiatsu. Dressed as Menma.  ZOMGLksjflaskdj!!!!

Bam. Busted.

Obligatory Pic Spam:

Oh wow. The resemblance is just uncanny!

Teehee. D’awww. I want to pinch his cheeks.

This is Anaru’s angry face. Be afraid.

“Yukiatsu…you’re a TRAP?”

End Thoughts:

In all seriousness though, I almost had to cover my eyes on that part. I felt so bad for Yukiatsu. I can really understand how lots of people would find Yukiatsu pretty creepy after that one. I mean…he’s cross dressing as his dead childhood friend. That is wrong on quite a few levels. However, if anything, I felt really sorry for him. He cares so much about Menma and he can’t find it in himself to let go. And it’s sad because he calls Jinta pathetic, when really; he himself feels the most pathetic of all. His attitude is all a front to cover his inner sensitivities and insecurities.

It was quite interesting to see how well Tsuruko understands him though. She knew that he couldn’t let go of Menma and knew right away that the ghost Menma was him. And she’s not easy on him either…she won’t let his antics slide just like that. Good for her. This really made me like her. She’s kind of cool headed and snarky but I feel as though she means well in the end. I wish she’d be nicer to Anaru though. ;P

And yes, Poppo’s still a total sweetheart. I forever love him. And poor Anaru…it tugs at my heart strings to see her one-sided feelings for Jinta. Jinta though? Jinta has lots of things he needs to resolve ranging from his feelings for Menma to what he’s going to do with his life to even his relationship with his father. But I guess it’s always the main character that has the most issues. xD

Maaaan, I am SO looking forward to the next episode. Like…Yukiatsu?! How is everybody going to react?! I cannot wait!

Jin-tan is not amused. Wonder why?

I love this show so much. Damn you, A-1 Pictures, DAMN YOU!

  3. Anohana has been really consistent with the heart-tugging, emotional feel that it invokes in every single episode. SOO good. It seems as if they’re going to pair off the characters too..all except Poppo, poor poppo.
Also, what’s with all the nose pinching this season? First HanaIro and now Anohana?

    • Zabobinator says:

Oh yes, it definitely has. I can definitely see the pairing off. Poppo’s gonna be fine. He’s Poppo! ^_^

Nose pinching is cute. I like it. Hehehe.

  4. wonton jr. says:

Haha I can’t decide which show is better, HanaSaku, or Anohana. I feel so bad for Yukiatsu, it’s like he’s mentally scarred because of Menma’s death..

    • Zabobinator says:

Hmmm…HanaSaku’s good, but I definitely like AnoHana better. The plot is a lot more engaging in my opinion. Then again, HanaSaku has 26 episodes so there’s more room for plot development.

      Dude me too. Poor kid.

  5. Renn says:

He’s not the best trap I’ve ever seen, but he’s up there as one of the most unique. I feel bad for him. I’d feel worse for him if he wasn’t such a jerk.

This is my favorite show, too (alongside Tiger & Bunny). I’m glad someone on Meta is blogging it. :3

    • Zabobinator says:

Yah…he’s not the best trap but his circumstances are something special.

His attitude is pretty annoying though hahaha.

I’m so happy I get to blog this show too! ^_^

  6. amado says:

im one of the few who dont pity him.

crossdressing to cope with her loss is ok. even if its pretty creepy.
but using it to trick your friends is definitely up to jerk level. also lying about what menma truly wants.

    • Zabobinator says:

I don’t know if he really realized what Menma truly wants. And I think that he was saying to forget about her mainly to himself. He clearly wants to get over her.

It’s sort of surprising the extent to which her death has affected him…

I get why you wouldn’t like him though. He IS a jerk… ;P

  7. Balloon Thief says:

I want all the other characters to react like this. “OMG I crossdress too” and then they all rip off their outfits and show they have a opposite sex outfit underneath. jk jk I do wonder how Poppo will react because he’s always happy go lucky.

It will be fun to see Yukiatsu’s mental breakdown even though I guess you could say it started before he put on the dress. How will he try to explain it? Will this force him to become a NEET like Jinta? I think it will be him stumbling over his words and Tsuruko will be explaining for him in an unemotional way.

By the way Tsuruko is sooooooooo pro. She is my favorite character. She is quiet but deadly. I bet she’s a ninja and a secret agent in her free time. Sadly we still don’t know how she thinks but hopefully next episode will explain it better.

    • Zabobinator says:

I don’t know if I would be able to take it if everybody crossdressed! xD

Dude…I am so looking forward to how he’s going to react. He’s been exposed body and soul if you catch my drift. Yikes.

I LOVE TSURUKO. Pro is definitely one way to describe her. Can’t wait to find out more about her!

  8. Foshizzel says:

Cosplay man failure! He doesn’t like Menma he wants to become her! DUDE FREAKY STUFF. Then again that might be his own way to “deal” with losing her? Still WTF!

This series is quite addictive, and yes Menma is so damn cute D:

    • Zabobinator says:

Yah…this was definitely WAAAYYY out there. Love this show. MENMA!!! <333

    • Joojoobees says:

Actually, this *does* open up some weird cosplay possibilities. Is it cross-dressing if a woman dresses up as Yukiatsu dressed as Menma?

      • Zabobinator says:

…dude. It’s like inception: Cosplaying as a cosplayer. We need to go deeper! Cosplay as a cosplayer who’s cosplaying a cosplayer!

  9. Mad Chemist says:

This episode really was intense, wasn’t it? I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Yukiatsu’s dark side, though. I can’t really feel sorry for the man because he really is an ass, but he’s very pitiful and I can’t see being discovered having any positive effects on his psyche.

I want to see more of Tsuruko too, we know just enough about her to see what kind of person she is but not quite enough to keep her from being a mystery. She probably has a thing for Yukiatsu and she seems fond of Jinta, but something in the way she treats both of them this episode makes me think she has her own dark side.

    • Zabobinator says:

Ooooh yah. Getting busted like this is going to work quite the number on Yukiatsu. Jeeze…I really want to see how he reacts.

Tsuruko rocks. It’s really bittersweet how she knows more about Yukiatsu than he realizes even about himself. And yes, we still don’t know enough about her.

  10. MikADo says:

    Yuuuukiiiiiatttttttsuuuuuuuuuuuu XD
i knew this would happen on episode 3, but actually watching it as it happened really hurt 😛
srsly if this did not happen without any hints on the previous episodes, this show would have made history ‘ㅅ’ㅋ

  11. Dan-go says:

I can never decide if this is trying to warm or break my heart, but i just loooove menma, i want of for myself

  12. Reaper says:

Damn that Yukiatsu for being an arrogant son of a-! Well, you get my point :). Though he’s no trap like Kuragehime…
Poor Tsuruko, I get the sense she might have had feelings for Yukiatsu before, but, like Anaru, it’s a one sided thing (at least for now). Still, cookie to her chant about how you can’t look like a girl with hairy legs…*shudder
Menma is damn cute, can’t blame Jinta and Yukiatsu for liking her but at least Jinta had dealt (or dealing with) with his feelings after Memna’s death, unlike Yukiatsu, who’s acting like a sooky sooky…i mean sulking humbug (bout to bust out the primary school insults then XP). It would be nice if all other guys just pointed at Yukiatsu and said “You’ll never have hips like Menma”

    • Dan-go says:

once you seen kuragehime there’s no going back

    • Zabobinator says:

Kuranosuke is my favorite trap ever. He’s wonderful.

Yah, I definitely get that sort of vibe. She’s strong though, from what we’ve seen of her at least.

I LOVE MENMA. Hips?! She has no hips! She’s tiny! xD

      • Reaper says:

I correct myself with the hips. “You’ll never be as cute as Menma” 🙂

        • Dan-go says:

          I want my own audial/visual hallucination/ghost girl 🙁

  13. Hime says:

    That’s a tasty trap…

  14. Kyokai says:

I laughed by ass off when it was finally revealed that Yukiatsu was behind that. I had an inkling since that cloth sniffing but I did not feel bad for him after how high-handed he was in front of Jintan about ‘seeing’ Menma.

This is going quite bittersweetly but so good!

    • Zabobinator says:

Oh god…I couldn’t laugh at all. I was rather horrified. It’s kind of awful when you’re horrified to be right… xD

      • Kyokai says:

I guess, I don’t have patience for the people like Yukiatsu. I’m sadistic that way. xD

    • Dan-go says:

You terrible person kyo! the poor guy is just as traumatized, probably more son than Jintan, it’s his defense mechanism, as weak and pathetic as it is, i totally dont blame him. his friend DIED when he was like 7?! thats like a super messed up childhood…almost as bad as watching the Ring when you’re 6…:O

      • Kyokai says:

Hey, I got my iron-will standards and have no sympathy for people who can’t pick themselves up. Whatever childhood trauma there is, elongating it to adulthood and becoming a douchebag is a poor excuse. Not to mention, he’s quite intelligent and poses as a know-it-all; having shortfalls is fine but mocking old friends just for being right is just wrong.

  15. Natsume says:

Damn, you’ve got some mad predicting skills…
I was so shocked, because I watched the 4th episode right after I read your previous post and you were right on the dot. I had some theories behind Yukiatsu keeping Menma’s dress, but cross dressing was NOT one of them…I almost died from how embarrassing the situation was. =_=

    • Zabobinator says:

      Hehe…I try. xD

Dude…I almost died too. I felt SOOO embarrassed for him. He’s a jerk and I STILL felt bad! That’s how awful I found it.

  16. baka_girl says:

I already had a feeling that it’s him, but I still laugh so hard when I see that. But I kinda feel sorry for him after rewatching this episode. His obsession for Menma is on a whole different level..
He got so much pride, I can’t imagine what he feels when others know that he is ‘Menma’ lololol

  17. Dan-go says:

Gaaahhhhhh, Meiko’s seiyuu/voice is so goddamn familiar, but i just can’t place my finger on it, and i don’t wanna search it up, cuz i swear i can get this without help
