Mazinkaiser SKL OVA – 03 [END]
MazinkaiserSKL gives you wings!
Welcome back to the final OVA episode! So far this series has been great, lots of action and plenty of robots kicking other machines around. Of course, Ken and Ryo wouldn’t stay down for long! After all they love a good throw down any day. Other news if you are a hardcore giant robot fan and haven’t heard of Sai mecha you should go check it out! It’s a blog dedicated to Mechas. Basically you cast your votes for your favorite machines. Anyway, onto the final review for Mazinkaiser SKL.
Plot picks up with the Gravity Curtain going into hardcore meltdown! The pressure begins to rip the island apart. So, it’s up to Ken, Ryo and some help from Yuki to save the world! The final seconds tick down as Ryo and Ken fight a zombie like Kiba, who gains a new mecha called the Iron Kaiser.
Well, hello there, Yuki! Nice machine you got there; pointy breasts and wings?!
That is actually a kick! Take notes Kore wa Zombie Desu ka fans!
Yuki finally jumps into the battle and kicks some ass! Yes, she is quite awesome in these short fighting scenes. Before she can get too excited, the Gravity Curtain begins to spin and tear the island apart. She gets contacted by Ken and Ryo for an update on the current events. But they have one thing to deal with first, a somewhat quick fight against Garan.
Ken-“HEY YOU! WAKE UP, YOU SON OF A BITCH!”
Pretty sure the gun doesn’t go there, but hey it works! Ryo, you crazy bastard!
Very epic death there for Garan! He was a great character, same for his beard of doom!
Garan gets defeated and Himiko gets killed off by zombie Kiba, seriously that guy is like half dead or something. Kiba then jumps into a new machine, the Iron Kaiser! Not a bad looking machine either I liked that color scheme. His machine also has a Gravity Curtain powering it and Yuki explains them how to “disarm” the curtain by destroying the Iron Kaiser near the original Gravity Curtain that is going into meltdown.
I think Mazinkaiser wins in the big ass sword department there, Kiba
FIGHT! Look at those sparks!
I think it’s time we bring this fight into the GAR SKY!
The giant sunny side up egg attacks the island! Oh wait that’s not good.
Sounds like a quote for Sai-Mecha!
YES! BEST QUOTE EVER!
I think the black-hole definitely qualifies for a great death scene!
With Kiba beaten and both Ken and Ryo sacrificing themselves to stop the Gravity Curtain from going into overload, they save the island. Well, what’s left of the island anyway? The end credits roll past and we get a small video of Yuki piloting a ship with a special delivery, a motorcycle-horse combo mount! As Ken and Ryo get their new ride and fly off.
Well, at least the girls survived! Don’t expect many tourists though.
Who wouldn’t want a Half-Motorcycle-undead-horse?!
Extra Mecha!
Soldier- “Quit hogging the TV all day! I want to play some damn video games!”
I liked this machine! Very cool colors! Not too crazy about that weak looking spear.
Someone is having a great time!
Yuki is very angry! She didn’t get to enjoy her beach trip.
This is why roller coasters of the future fail! They catch fire way too easily.
End Thoughts:
Not a bad episode for the final episode, lots of awesome battle scenes! I liked that Yuki even got to do a small bit of fighting with the other two guys. Although I wish she got to do a bit more fighting! Anyway we got some great action all around this time. Ken and Ryo are really great characters! I was happy to finally see a mecha series where pilots enjoyed kicking ass. Double pilots in one machine did sound a bit strange to me at first; however, it worked out better than I thought. I still prefer the sword mode over the double gun mode.
Story wise not too complex basic giant robot saves the world type of plot. There were lots of fun characters as well; Kiba was the annoying guy in the first OVA episode! But he did prove to be a great fighter coming back into this final as a burnt up zombie thing. Garan was more of the badass fighter than Kiba was. He actually “survived” the first round against the guys. So, I would pick him as the best bad guy through this OVA series.
Mecha designs were also nice, I don’t think there were any machines I hated to look at, even the foot soldiers looked really great and all the blood when they blow up. AWESOME! Never really saw a mecha bleed besides the Evangelion ones. So, violence overall was up there for me, even during episode one you see someone actually get stepped on. Makes me wonder if the original series was also as bloody? Maybe I should check it out.
Would I recommend this to any mecha fan? YES! Absolutely! If you like insane fights and blood, you should really check this out, thankfully it’s pretty short so you can breeze through it fast. I wasn’t familiar with the Mazinkaiser series; however, after watching these OVA’s I might check them out! Anyway hope you all had fun reading these reviews on Metanorn! Thanks.
