Danganronpa 3: Zetsubou Hen – 04

Danganronpa 300008

Laxative or not, should it really be glowing and neon…?

Well with the amount of drama going on with this arc, it’s catching up to the amount of drama in the Mirai arc. …Though girls shouting at each other is pretty standard for high school. Minus the giant dog and explosions though. Probably.

Andou was pretty quick to blame Kimura for betraying her, but it seems like a lot of it was her own fault. She kind of forced her way into Kimura’s space and demanded a lot from her. Surely Andou’s skill at making sweets was good enough without Kimura, but she still wanted Kimura’s medicine. Then when things didn’t work out for her and the medicines were switched, Andou went straight to blaming everything on Kimura again without listening to her side. Of course part of it is Kimura’s fault for not standing up for herself and making the matters worse by not even explaining herself either and just going straight to blaming Andou. …Not that Andou would have listened probably, but Kimura just went straight from “you’re wrong” to “it’s your fault!”.

Somehow even with the explosions and giant dog, this wasn’t quite as exciting as a Shokugeki

However, Andou’s line about Kimura still not wanting to eat her sweets opened up her character a bit better than the personality Andou has shown thus far. Not that it excuses all of her behaviour towards Kimura, but if there are underlying trust issues because Andou doesn’t trust anyone who won’t eat what she makes (or maybe she thinks that Kimura doesn’t trust her), maybe that’s why she seemed to be using Kimura. Or maybe Andou’s attitude is some convoluted way of her trying to get close to Kimura.

Either way though, Komaeda’s plan worked out for him in the end. It’s interesting to see how his wildly fluctuating luck worked out for him in the end, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it worked out well for the other characters. Because of him, three innocent students were both kicked out of school and they had their (admittedly not so great to begin with) relationships shattered with one another. Not to mention the damage that happened to the school. Things went Komaeda’s way, but the repercussions fell on pretty much everyone else. Knowing that things are going to get even worse from here, it would have probably been way better for everyone if his plan had gone the way he originally wanted it to. Though even when Junko comes in, that will probably be the outcome he wanted anyways, so I guess in a way things are really just working out well for him.

But with Yukizome and Kizakura knowing the truth, it makes sense that all three of the expelled students (Andou, Kimura, and Izayoi) were invited to the Future Foundation since they technically didn’t do anything wrong. Especially since Yukizome knew, since she’s the most likely to have convinced Munakata to let them in. It’s questionable why they would agree to be part of the same team considering how big their falling out was, but it might have to do with Kimura apparently being on the Despair side before joining the Future Foundation for whatever reason.

But unfortunately, this incident also resulted in Kizakura and Yukizome being removed as teachers from their class. Kizakura is probably less important here since he didn’t really do anything in the first place, but the students obviously loved Yukizome. The class is obviously still depressed about Sato’s death too. Or at least the girls who knew her. So this isn’t the best time for Yukizome to leave, and the future of Junko corrupting the students is just making more and more sense as the students become more emotionally vulnerable.

On the plus side, Yukizome would probably be a great influence on the Reserve Course (in theory, since bad stuff will definitely happen in the future regarding the Reserve Course and Junko). It’s just too bad that this comes after Hajime has decided to become Kibougamine’s artificial hope. Maybe if this transfer had happened sooner, he might not have agreed. Though of course if he didn’t agree to the experiment, Kibougamine might have just found someone else in the Reserve Course who wanted talent enough to become someone else.

It’s pretty nice having both seasons airing at the same time, since Danganronpa seems to be using it as double the amount of time for character development. It’s answering the questions about the characters that would probably feel out of place if the Mirai arc took the time to go into them. The circumstances behind the Tragedy is slowly being revealed too, which is interesting since it seems really complicated too. It seems like it wasn’t just Junko working things into place, but many events building up to create the circumstances she could use.

Due to his actions based on his own selfishness, Komaeda was a real dirtbag and that nonchalant smile he wears makes him even more risible. Personally, the carried out punishments were unjust. Though Komaeda didn’t carry out his plans himself directly, he did set up the events that led to his desired outcome and used three unknowing pawns in the process.

The principal flat out came to the very conclusion himself but still gave the harsher punishment to those who didn’t deserve it while the true perpetrator gets off with a mere suspension and all for the sake of maintaining the school’s image. Talk about bias and special treatment. It would’ve been the reversal if I were in his place.
