RE: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu – 12

rezero 12-012

This is gonna be a hard choice, isn’t it?

We got plenty of new cast and plenty of old cast, and the start of a new arc. But did the show go above and beyond a mere set-up episode?

Return to the Capital

rezero 12-004

…back to the beginning, with the cutest new character exiting screen right…

I thought there were several key points that kept this one from being a total fill-in show; but really, it was totally a fill-in show. That’s OK. We’ve got another big arc coming up with the second cour, so it’s wise to step back and assess. Subaru’s return to the capital can serve on many fronts, and serve quite a few story functions to boot. It’s not just meeting and greeting the new characters, and getting reacquainted with the older ones, it’s also seeing how far he’s come since the third episode. As always, Appa Man, Kadamon is a good place for him to start his new city adventure. But is the doofus any wiser?

Don’t make to much of either gesture Subaru

Well, he is goofing on the genre savvy very hard, isn’t he. He’s assuming way to much. That makes out like he’s standing in judgement over and above those that know better. Emila is pretty firm, as she knows that he has to be out of his depth by now. She owes him a debt still, and she repays that the best she can, all the times that she can. Healing him up after the ‘garm encounter, and ensuring that he stays out of trouble is the best option really. But man, he saves a life or two, and that just means they get quite indulgent with his escapades. It scans well this episode, but could have been a bit better written. I think we might be seeing Emilia in another light as she tries to downplay her relationship with Subaru more. She’s not date material, and he can’t shake that yet.

rezero 12-002

With a battle name like Demon Sword, he’s probably just a kitten, right?

There is a great deal of contrast between Subaru and the knights/defenders of the potential royal successors. They all have a battle savvy he lacks, probably having seen a great deal of action and real experience that he can only imagine, and boy does he still imagine quite a bit.  We had a great detail from Wilhelm; and that was quite a bit of comparison the old man divulged, seeing death. But in another case this adaption didn’t develop at least one character the way they did in the source material. It was two fascinating bits left out, and it makes me wonder when they’re going to catch up to them, as I would love to see the challenge it represents to to the show.

rezero 12-010

Subaru doesn’t even fit in with this crowd…oh did I say something about “he’s probably a kitten”?

As it stands, this episode gave us the formal introduction to a host of characters going forward, namely the royal claimants, and their retinue. For the while, their characterizations are going to have to wait for further development, and I’ll tackle them as they come up later on. But for now, they all seem to come from privileged backgrounds, they have some muscle to back them up, and one would assume a great deal of influence in the court, and all of them have to petition/satisfy the Grand Wise Old Dudes with White Hair Council of Inevitable Authority. Hopefully there will be some surprises. Speaking of which…

The return of Felt

A court of extra stuff…

Show ▼

Well, anything else would be over reporting. I’m sure they’ve got a ton of things in store for this new plot point and all the characters, and I’m sure they’ll take the necessary time doing it.  Again, I’ll take them as it comes, as they might change stuff up from the sources. But man, I think they’ve done some light, but good, foreshadowing for Subaru; Wilhelm mentioned how much death the boy has seen already, with the implication that he could see more. I don’t think the older man knows of Subaru’s special ability, but he’s not wrong. Will our hero see more death other than his own in the future? Guess we’ll have to find out…

Oh, and Yui Horie as Felix the Trap Cat…

    Nekomimi! xinfinity!

Not helping my ongoing nekomimi binge this week…

    • BlackBriar says:

Dude, you were a lost cause the moment you were found out. How many therapy attempts did skylion and I try on you but ended up in vain? 😛

    • skylion says:

I rather like Felix, as he sets people up in a very unfair way. Sure, that’s crappy in real life…but it’s catnip in drama and comedy…

      • ProtoSovereign says:

Lol so Felix is like that token lovable arsehole. Like Gilgamesh, who makes for a great character in the Fate Series but irl you would want to bash him up.

        • skylion says:

…I don’t think much of Gilgamesh in the Fate series either…boring af. He’s much better in Prisma Illya…so I’ll see you in a couple of weeks when I pick that one up…

          • BlackBriar says:

All the more proof that Summer is upon us again. I’m no fan of intense sunlight and heat.

            • skylion says:

The sun is an evil ball that burns and makes bugs come out of their winter death spell…but we must endure…

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

Mongrel! You are not worthy to gaze on the Godly Visage of Gilgamesh! 😛

Of course, in Prillya he is the Rich Shota of Babylon…

        • BlackBriar says:

Not me. I always want to give Gilgamesh the royal ass kicking he deserves every time he’s onscreen.

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

<3 Gil. An effect of his Rank A+ Charisma.

  2. Highway says:

I didn’t really like where Subaru went this episode. I felt like it was the first time he got obnoxiously big for his britches. Emilia can’t handle things herself, so he’s gotta sneak in and help her. Never mind that he doesn’t know anything about what’s going on, anywhere.

Prior to this, he was more like “lovably overconfident”. This just pushed over the line into annoying and obnoxious.

On the other hand, I really liked Priscilla’s worldview. “This world is organized to be favorable to me.” That’s just gold. I actually want to see it be that way, or see that she’s flexible enough to see the good side in everything that happens.

    • skylion says:

I think it’s interesting that both Emilia and Subaru are in over their respective heads, and that obnoxiousness adds to the charm of his arc. He sassed his way around, and got himself good and used by Priscilla to put Emilia off her game. It does make me wonder what Rosewaal’s ultimate means are…

      • ProtoSovereign says:

Yeah, Emilia clearly isn’t as confident as her competition. And personally I think both Emilia and Subaru were well right and wrong at the same time. Emilia doesn’t want to get Subaru involved anymore (politics and so as to not endanger Subaru) and Subaru knows he’s only use comes from his Return from Death Ability so he’s not useful on the sidelines. Both of them forced their own way believing they were right. At this point idk who is truly mistaken so I’ll just go with the flow of the story.

  3. FVA says:

Emilia sounding more like Megumin when pouting. cant wait for Rie to voice Megumin again

Introducing the most badass 50 and above characters, Wilhelm Van Astrea ,the Sword Demon, the most badass among Subaru acquaintances and probably more powerful than Reinhardt if not for his 101++ uber hacks blessings. he so badass that he got a side novel that tell the tales of his love story

    • skylion says:

…I did notice that while looking up other images and stuff for the show, that Wilhelm does get a special amount of attention. I wonder if the show will go into that level of detail.

    • ProtoSovereign says:

Lol seriously? I was right to never underestimate the badass looking old man. He’s soul is forged from pure badass.

    • ProtoSovereign says:

You forgot about all those times Emilia says ‘suuugoku’ in that characteristic drawn out way. That always reminds me who her VA is.

      • skylion says:

Emilia is still a pretty unique character for her, and she’s still up and coming as far as range is concerned. But I’m looking forward to seeing what she can do with non-sense name character from the upcoming show Ange Veirge, one Code Ω00 Euphiria. That is one helluva name.

  4. ProtoSovereign says:

Priscilla is the epitome of nobility, seriously XD she’s never seen unprepared food, and she believes the world literally revolves around her. Its very fun to watch her crazy beliefs in play. Meanwhile, Emilia seems to be babying Subaru a lot like how Subaru pointed out a few eps about “Are you my mother?!” I think Emilia is putting herself more and more out of the waifu zone and Subaru doesn’t seem to notice. (It kinda makes sense considering Emilia’s true age is much older than what her appearance would show being half elf and all.) I also didn’t notice Yuka Iguchi’s voice, probably cuz she wasn’t doing her bratty voice XD. Show ▼

    • skylion says:

Yeah, Karsten Crusch is not really in Yuka-chan’s Index zone that is for sure, and she’s to active to be in supreme tank driver Mako-chan’s range either.

      • ProtoSovereign says:

HAHAHAH of all the roles you mentioned you forgot her role in Haganai as Maria. That was legit the best XD.

        • skylion says:

…nah, that was an Index/Tsukihi from Bakemonogatari riff…

        • BlackBriar says:

Maria was more or less Index minus the ravenous hunger and insatiable urge to bite.

          • ProtoSovereign says:

Maria was amazing XD so entertaining.

            • BlackBriar says:

Maria’s alright but I like to see it when she’s at odds with the “vampire” Kobato.

            • ProtoSovereign says:

Under rating Maria is a cardinal sin! Didn’t you know BB? And Kobato is just chuuni XD not a real vampire.

            • BlackBriar says:

Hahaha! I know but she’s just so dedicated. For that, she deserves recognition.

      • BlackBriar says:

It’s not the first time Yuka Iguchi’s gone out of her voicing comfort zone. She played the reverse trap butler Subaru Konoe from Mayo Chiki!

        • skylion says:

          Such a classic show…

          • BlackBriar says:

My favorite character from that show: the playfully sadistic and manipulative ojou-sama Kanade Suzutsuki played by Eri Kitamura.

            Subaru gets second place.

            • ProtoSovereign says:

              Is that heresy I smell?

            • BlackBriar says:

Nope, that’s potential masochism you’re sensing.

I have quite a weakness to female characters that have the kind of personality and mannerisms Kanade has. Same with Date A Live’s Kurumi Tokisaki.

            • ProtoSovereign says:

Yeah, I can tell that’s your type BB but I still find it hard to believe that you would pass up Konoe for Kanade. I’m not sure if I have a ‘type’ but I do have ‘types’ that I don’t like. And Konoe ticks the box for having most of the things I like whilst having less of the things I dislike in that show.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

The Inquisitorius has heard the word Heresy! Punishable by Exterminatus!

            • skylion says:

Tiny Kureha confirmed superior. She will crush your bear.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Hmm… Interesting concept: Exterminatus by Bear.

            • skylion says:

              Yep…

        • ProtoSovereign says:

Yeah you wouldn’t have believed my shock when I found that fact out in hindsight.

          • BlackBriar says:

I could barely make out that it was her at first because she actually sounded rather boyish. If not for the MAL info at the time, I’d have taken the voice actress for someone else.

      • sonicsenryaku says:

I guess people forget from time to time that yuka iguchi has got range

    • FVA says:

Emilia is an elf(half blood) .she like other elf just see subaru as an infant (him being a man child does not help this perspective).

Regarding Priscilla she maybe the rich ojou tropes but she kind of a badass. she has one of reinhardt many blessings: EX Rank Luck. oh boy you gonna wait for the next episode to know that is no ordinary WOMAN. (they skip a important exposition regarding priscilla entourage probably saving it for the later episode).

Every effing candidates is a bad ass (except for felt)
from top picture left to right a description:
Anastacia, Green haired no nonsense general Patton in girl form , A walking i am always right machine(literally she always right), and a nuclear winter. felt had reinhardt nuff said

      • skylion says:

Yeah, I indulged myself with the appropriate manga chapters before writing this, and it does seem like they’re burning thru the first four or so this episode; leaving important plot bits or character details behind – I suppose they can ketchup…

      • ProtoSovereign says:

Damn, I’m just liking Priscilla more and more. And I had the feeling Krush was like that, she’s cool and all. Anastasia left the worse impression on me but kansai ben is entertaining. And Felt is just amazing either way.

    • Highway says:

Felt’s return to the show I felt was a bit of a let-down in the way it was handled. Dull and ham-fisted, it was far too obvious, and that just made me feel like it was wasting time. To me, the interesting change is Reinhard possibly being on the other side from Emilia / Subaru.

      • skylion says:

I felt it served the purpose it was supposed to. They didn’t put to much thought into it, you’re right. But I think it underscores something in that Felt really is the odd one out, and then they can bring that to fruition or subvert it.

I think Reinhard is something of a cipher at this point, that he has potential to be on the opposite side is one thing, but what game is he playing? If we stack that next to Rosewaal’s goal?

        • Highway says:

I think it would be good if they played Reinhard perfectly straight. He does what he thinks is the right thing, and not because he’s got anything twisted. I kind of think they’ll set up a conflict between Felt and Emilia with this, in that both Felt and Emilia are doing the right thing, but Reinhard is supporting Felt for the ‘right’ motives, while Rosewaal is supporting Emilia for his own gain. I think that would be interesting for Subaru to be in, realizing that helping Emilia be right would be helping Rosewaal for wrong.

          • skylion says:

That is a fascinating way to look at Reinhard, so we’ll have to keep that in the viewfinder..

      • ProtoSovereign says:

I agree that Felt’s reintroduction was awkward but I think they’ll fix that next ep. (I hope :D)

        • Highway says:

I didn’t think it was particularly awkward. More like telegraphed and obvious. Especially when they said “These 5 candidates” earlier in the explanation. I was like “Oh, there are 4 there, the fifth must be Felt.”

It’s interesting to think about the parallel story that we’ve seen made quite a few times. Felt is seemingly an orphan, on the wrong side of the tracks, stealing to stay alive. She gets “found” by the pure-hearted officer of the realm, and somehow has royal blood. So they clean her up and present her as a candidate for being the queen. If you look closely, you could probably see the movie crew for that story in the room behind Felt as she walked into the hall. We just haven’t seen Julie Andrews show up yet.

          • skylion says:

            …could it be a Blake Edward’s comedy?

          • ProtoSovereign says:

HAHAHAHA I never noticed that, I just took it for granted that Felt was nobility or something similar so I wasn’t even slightly surprised when she was revealed as the fifth candidate. I’m just hoping Felt has less things done to her from now on and she actually gets to do more so we get to see Felt in action instead of Felt just being tossed around by the plot like a washing machine, and my sentence is dragging on too long so I need to relearn English, excuse me.

  5. skylion says:

Yeah, Karsten Crusch is not really in Yuka-chan’s Index zone that is for sure, and she’s to active to be in supreme tank driver Mako-chan’s range either.

  6. BlackBriar says:

Aside from a few notes, the episode was generally uneventful. At least from point of view so far. The reveal of the cat demi-human is plain cruel.

Subaru’s grown obnoxious and should realize he’s jumping the gun growling and glaring at the purple haired guy for kissing Emilia’s hand, especially when he hasn’t done anything entitling him to behave as though she belongs to him. That’s being needlessly conspicuous.

I had to face palm at a particular matter, though. Priscilla has a long way to go if she’s never seen so much as an unpeeled apple. Seriously taking being a sheltered noble to an unthinkable extreme while at the same time making her Felt’s polar opposite.

    • skylion says:

      Spammy beaten!

…but she’s adventurous in some way. Why was she in that alley in the first place? Girl wants out of the mold they got her stuck in! Subura is like catnip to her more playful side.

..any kind of cat is fine, too…

      • ProtoSovereign says:

Actually come to think of it… why was she in the alley in the first place XD

        • BlackBriar says:

Most likely like any overprotected noble girl with a desire for some freedom, she deliberately went there hoping for a stir to stave off boredom.

      • BlackBriar says:

        Spammy beaten!

Maybe you should check the filter again. There’s a mismatch between my comment count and what’s on the top 20 list.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

..any kind of cat is fine, too…

        Oh no! I’m done for!

    • ProtoSovereign says:

Yeah, Subaru was quite unfair to the purple her dude, Yuris was it? Anyway, although the purple hair dude had nasty eyes I still felt bad for him for Subaru’s hostility.

      • sonicsenryaku says:

not to mention subaru had the opportunity to hold emilia’s hand yet he overreacted to the whole thing. His behavior has me scratching my head sometimes

      • skylion says:

        Julius Juunkulius accordingly…

I understood where Subaru was coming from. They’ve really set the dumb guy to be out of his depth this episode and he sinks to the occasion.

  7. sonicsenryaku says:

I gotta agree with highway here: subaru kinda stepped over the line a bit this ep. It almost felt as if he was invading emilia’s privacy. I know that his intentions were pure but he should have at least gave emilia the opportunity to try and work things out on her own like she hoped subaru would allow her to do. Friends have to trust each other and know when to step in on each other’s affairs. At least if subaru gave her a chance to struggle, then he could convince emilia that he is justified in giving her a helping hand.

Perhaps emilia didnt want subaru seeing her being
discriminated against in a hall full of politically powerful people. Perhaps she didnt want subaru to become involved in affairs that could get him killed. Again i get subaru’s point of view but this was a situation where he should have let things play out. But hey, we’re not perfect. I also think emilia could have also toned down her “motherly” demeanor towards subaru but then hey, look at the guy…he kinda does act like a small child.

    • Highway says:

He was even acting more immature with Julis (was that the guy’s name?). That was really embarrassing, I thought. I do think that Roswaal was probably in favor of Subaru being involved, maybe it gives a layer of cover for him.

      • sonicsenryaku says:

Based on what we got last ep, i think roswaal would be willing to give emilia any kind of help possible (aka subaru being in the loop) so that he can “kill the dragon”, which is my theory as to why he supports emilia. I assume if a dragon priestess is selected, the dragon itself may eventually show up and roswaal will get his chance to kill it

      • skylion says:

Yes, that was the guy’s name…

You know, I had not thought of Rosewaal using Subaru as cover. I’ll keep an eye out for that…

        • ProtoSovereign says:

Julius’ seiyuu… Hachiman… no… Oh and I couldn’t agree more with Highway about Subaru’s awful behaviour towards Julius and about Subaru being a bit childish. But Emilia needs to tone down her mothering a lot if she wants to be Subaru’s bride but, she probably doesn’t anyway :3 She like Subaru but I don’t think its in the way Subaru wants her to like him.

  8. Overcooled says:

    I finally caught up!

Yep, as you say, a set-up episode, but not a bad one. I was pretty happy to see them return to the capital and see some old faces again. Felt was especially a surprise for me. Even more of a surprise than Felix being a guy. :3

I’m not fond of the other 2 candidates (even with the adorable kansai ben for one of em)…but I do like Priscilla. She genuinely thinks the world works in a way to favour her, and she has no reason to believe otherwise because everyone has probably obeyed her completely since the day she was born. I liked the nice touch of weakness when Priviledge I MEAN Priscilla thought appas were white. It took me a moment to know what she meant and then I couldn’t help but laugh. So spoiled! I like that her response wasn’t to pout and whine when proven wrong either. She didn’t miss a beat.

    Subaru hasn’t died for a while so I’m sure he’s due soon…

    • skylion says:

Yay, we’ve kept a seat for you!

I’m totally on board with Felix as a dude, that means he probably has more surprises around the corner!

There is a lot of supposed badassery coming down for all the candidates, and I think we should hold our bets on all of them, even Felt!

..that’s an odd duck of a feeling when we think that a character dying again is “overdue”…

      • Highway says:

Isn’t that how Irene and Karakuri (and a lot of other people) thought of Mayoiga? 😉

      • BlackBriar says:

..that’s an odd duck of a feeling when we think that a character dying again is “overdue”…

Then imagine how we felt not being met with satisfaction when absolutely no one kicked the bucket in Mayoiga.

      • skylion says:

Oh, with Mayoiga it was best for the bus to slide off the road and explode the opening episode!

    • Highway says:

I’m surprised you were surprised at Felt. To me, she was obviously Chekhov’s Macguffin when Reinhard took her away.

Here’s a question: How do we know that Priscilla is wrong? What if she is able to perceive that the world IS designed to favor her? It would be a similar coin to that of Anne Hanakoizumi from Anne Happy, who has extraordinarily bad ‘luck’ yet is still able to nearly always see the positive side of what happens to her. She didn’t get hung on a bridge and dropped in the river, she saved a puppy and got to meet Ruri.

Unfortunately, I doubt that this show is going to be that subtle or meta. But I do think that would be great.

      • skylion says:

Yeah, but Anne didn’t have a Queen of the Realm thing going for her, she simply wanted to be a good student and make friends. Priscilla, despite the humor, will always want for “white” appa…

        • Highway says:

See, I don’t know if this is really a difference. If you took someone with, say, the opposite luck of Hanako, and the same outlook, would they not be justified in thinking that the world has been ordered in such a way as to always favor them? And would they not be justified then in thinking that they are well within their purview to think they should then be crowned queen of the realm, should such an opportunity arise? Likely it hasn’t been introduced yet, but I didn’t see anything in their early interactions that showed her to be petulant, whiny, or anything but confident in her belief that the world is ordered for her favor. I know people like that “absolute power corrupts absolutely” line, but to me, that’s BS, because anyone who actually HAS absolute power does not need to care what the definition of ‘corruption’ is, nor for what the feelings of anyone else are. If there could be any consequence that would bother them at all, then their power is not actually definable as “absolute”.

Just like I said I’d like to see Reinhard played straight above, I’d love to see them play Priscilla straight here, and see how her character does. Unfortunately, I feel it’s almost a certainty that they will give her some measure of moral turpitude, making her be a ‘bad’ lady rather than just ‘another’ lady in the story.

          • skylion says:

I’ve come to see it as, “there is power, and that is a tool. There are people, and some are corrupt, so therefore some people corrupt power” You don’t blame a hammer for corrupting you, nor do your credit it overmuch when you use it to build a house.

As far as Priscilla goes, it’s hard to contrast here, as you point out, we don’t know enough about her yet, even enough to be cynical as to her final characterization…

          • ProtoSovereign says:

I do like what you said about absolute power Highway and Skylion has a point too, but personally I do hope Priscilla becomes more affable. Someone who doesn’t care about anyone else is not exactly likable.

  9. IreneSharda says:

We get a new arc and some new characters. I was pretty much guessing that Felt would become a candidate for the throne.

I see there was some sort of prophecy going on too, so there are only 5 candidates total, and all women. I wonder then why there was a king all this time, when it called for a priestess to have a covenant with the dragon. And if Roswaal is planning to kill the dragon where does that put him?

I’m not really caring for any of the other candidates other than Felt of course. Priscilla’s egotistical spoiled act, can get grating.

I like also that we see Reinhard’s…father? I think? He seems to be a pretty good guy.

Subaru just seems a little too clingy this episode. Why can’t Emilia go to a single meeting by herself? She asked you to trust her, but you can’t even do that. I mean Roswaal was with her, and that guy seems to be able to do a lot more than you.

Also, his jealousy is cute, but a little over the top as well, especially with that knight he just met. I think these two really need to have a talk and Subaru needs to know when he’s just got to take a step back.

Well, let’s see where this goes and how many times Subaru is going to die this time.

    • ProtoSovereign says:

Priscilla’s ego can really get annoying tru, As long as she doesn’t go overboard though it should be very entertaining. Your question about the ‘king’ is also of interest to me, seriously What’s the King meant to do if they just make chosen women form covenants with the dragon. Also I forgot to ad earlier but I think Krush would make a responsible leader! She’s leader material!

      • skylion says:

…from what I’ve seen so far she has some sort of military background that isn’t the knights? We’ll have to see…

        • ProtoSovereign says:

Ah! So the Hunters/Jaegers? Any military force not part of the main one is this now it seems 😛

I would guess there was a king because line of succession after the previous pact with the dragon. You take what royal heirs you get, not necessarily the ones you want.

I worry a little that Subaru is getting too much into “nice guy” territory, and starting to think that because he is close to Emilia and she is friendly with him that he *should* mean more to her than has been acknowledged. His behavior this episode was kinda over that line. I hope that the show makes the effort to have Emilia reciprocate his feelings of her own will, rather than just go along.

      • skylion says:

The more it gets brought up, the more I think that the “nice guy” territory and all that that entails is going to form some thematic landscape. Lots of folks assuming lots of stuff that doesn’t have a strong basis in reality. Maybe some magical thinking about the dragon and the heirs’ place in that scheme.

Holy crap! Remember, at least Ram knows Rosewaal’s desires regarding the dragon.

    • skylion says:

King? I’m going with early translation error?

Ah, give those other candidates time to warm up, I’m sure they’ll bring something cool to the show.

Father? You mean Wilhelm? The guy Subaru gave Ram’s prized tea to?

Subaru is having “dude delusions”. It happens to dumb guys all the time, assuming they know better. It’s a really crappy display, with him basically undermining Emila…but it does make the wheel of drama turn.

You know, I’ve never got the “your jealousy is kinda cute” from anyone. How does that even work?

…everyone wants the poor boy to buy it again..

      • Highway says:

“You being jealous of me being flirty with someone else is cute because that means that I have power and leverage over you.” Although it should usually mean “I need to evaluate whether you’re someone who is going to be jealous every time I talk to another eligible person, and try to be controlling of me.”

      • IreneSharda says:

Well, they’ve talked about a king and his children more than once now, so I have to assume they are talking about a male royal. But like Highway said, it could simply be a matter of inheritance over the years. Or, another possible theory is that the Queen is in charge of communing with the dragon and doing more spiritual duties as priestess, while the King, whoever they marry, would in charge of dealings of state.

I didn’t realize until a second viewing that each candidate represents a different kind of trope you see in anime regional governments. Kansai girl is capitalistic, thinking about business and money on a constant basis, The one next to her, from her uniform seems to be more military minded. Priscilla seems to be all that is blue-blooded aristocratic, Emilia is magic and fantasy, also the only one that seems to be not entirely human, and Felt is the Cinderella story, the one from humble beginnings.

Honestly, we all really know that while there are 5 candidates, it’s really just a 2 woman race between Emilia and Felt. And if I had to be honest, I think that in the end, it will probably be Felt who will be queen. I love Emilia, but somehow I just get the feeling that her story will have an edge of tragedy, especially considering how intertwined her life is with that of Satella.

And yes, I was talking about Wilhelm. He’s a relative of some sort, since the two have the same surname. Father came immediately to mind, but he could also be an uncle.

As for jealousy being cute, well, that’s a romance trope as old as time and familiar on both sides of the ocean. Here it came off cute that he wants to fight for her, but it’s a dosage thing. Girls like to know a guys wants her and is willing to fight for her, but only to a certain extent. It’s easy to see, but kind of weird to explain. Jealousy is cute, as long as it doesn’t cross the line into domination or dangerous possession.

        • skylion says:

I like the later possibility best as I think it can create more and better drama; the division of power meaning division of people or their ideals? Something like that…

Ah, you got me! I was gonna save this til next time! I don’t think of it as regional governments, at least not yet, need more episodes to see it. But like you get to with Emilia, they really line up the tropes with the candidates. I’ll enjoy seeing how this plays out.

Geez ::slaps head:: I didn’t even make a name connection with the surnames of Reinhard and Wilhelm. ::derp::

…and I’m trying to channel what me mum taught me. You don’t need to be jealous if you’ve built confidence. That’s a challenge in and of itself. But I can see where the jealousy angle comes from.

          • IreneSharda says:

Lol, Wilhelm’s name struck me when it was first said, since I knew I had heard the name before. I zeroed in on Reinhard since he’s the only one who would have a name like that. Watched for them to say his full name later and bada-bing!

Knowing that, you can realize why Will is called the “sword demon” since supposedly, everyone in the Astrea family has some sort of huge affinity with swords. Also, he has blue eyes the same shade as Reinhard, and white hair that could have been red at one time. He makes a comment that suggest to me that his wife is dead, but its highly likely that where there was a wife, there was also children, and Reinhard fits to be about the age of a son.

        • ProtoSovereign says:

So is the whole “jealousy is cute” thing just about possession? One party wishes to possess the other but does not wish to be possessed in the process?

        • ProtoSovereign says:

          Show ▼

      • ProtoSovereign says:

I’m actually not sure they mistranslated it. I swear they used the word for king ou but this episode I definitely also heard the word for queen thrown around too jou.

The name of the character is Anastasia Hoshin

I’ve edited a few comments above. They contained the word Jew in reference to this character along with the Japanese region/dialect of Kansai. I took out those words and replaced them with her name. This ain’t Four Chan folks, and I may miss it after a week, but I don’t want racial or religious epithets in my posts. I understand that many might not be aware or that…or you might be. I don’t care either way. I’ve addressed it and we’re moving on and away from it. I’ll be reposting this comment in my main post for episode 13.
