The Story of the Hero and the Princess
She was a good boat, this queen….
Well, for the most part, I’m going to cover what went on it Episode Eight, as the previous one was pretty much by the book, with very little in way of plot or character advancement. Basically, we had a showdown between Namami and the new silly wabbit, Prince Leaf. Blows were exchanged and clothing was indeed damaged and lost. We were also given the treat/not-so-much-a-treat Yui Hories/Milliefore concert that the episode pretty much treated like a flashback as it’s only supposed purpose was to make Becky, Milly, and Cinque late for the next part of the story, and the next episode.

Well the name of the game is Demon Days. In the long ago, demons and their possessed animals of the land roamed free, and the Kingdoms were divided. This was a good place to start, given that they’ve spoken of this time period in previous seasons, and demons running wild began our current one. This makes me think another incursion is on the slate, which should make the show a touch more interesting. If that is on the horizon, then much of the training the Three Republics have pitched the sports battles into are going to pay off.
As history goes, it’s pretty straightforward. Just like Biscotti’s and Gallete’s Hero summnons, Pastilliage get’s it’s share as well. With the Princess Clarifier (or Fie) calling Adelaide Grand Marnier from our world to hers. Both make quite the team as this is just the impetus the young princess needs. This pair sets out to deal great justice. Along the way we learn that our Demon King Valerie is not so demonic as he likes to claim (just a good study) and we get a handshake with the past of some of the less active, but certainly not-unimportant members of the large cast. Brioche and her brother come into play as demon-blood soaked avengers hot on evil’s trail (leading us to Yuki making her LOLi appearance) This makes them all the team supreme as they lay waste to all comers. But it isn’t without a price, as Fie proves to be vulnerable to demon-blood, and passes as a result of it’s poisonous effects.
A good bureaucratic pair these two….
But all is not lost, as both Val and Addy prove to be capable leaders in the sick princesses’ stead. Establishing a Republic in her name before choosing to seal themselves away along with Fie’s spirit. And a great big Gun. Which brings us full circle back to the Heroes of last season freeing them both for fun and games.
No story, no tea, no biscuits….maybe next time….
Overall this was a charming, if not tragic tale of the past. I’m hoping it serves as a precursor to the future. With Prince Leaf we are seeing the world get a little wider, a little brighter. This means the stakes can rise much higher, when the evil comes a calling. From this point, I’m hoping they get into some tasty mix-ups, as they’ve set a good table, with all the character’s ready to dig in. Damn, this show makes me hungry too, I guess…

Not too old, I think. Adele’s costume style isn’t exactly accurate, but I’d say at least early 1900-1910s.
Then again, most (not all) illustrators/designers for historical-type anime don’t seem to care much for historical accuracy in costume designs (unless it’s Japanese).

I have no problems with inaccuracies UNLESS it is so glaringly obvious, ie. goth lolis, bondage-leather strippers and JRPG outfits in the 1930s.
*Junketsu no Maria escapes this, since all non-witch characters look fairly accurate. The witches need to stand out more in that case.

Interesting origin episode, Maou Adelaide was also a nice visual treat.
Mmm, Its kinda’ odd how the anime doesn’t outright say it but is/was Val and Addy “officially” married? They were shown to share a room & is known as Couv’s ancestor. Just kinda’ weird how it dances around it like in the closing monologue of her tale.
P.S. I also love how in this series, Lèse-majesté is pretty much allowed on official events if you are capable enough & is A-OK to be shared throughout the countries live on TV (state sponsored to boot).

…Lèse-majesté is as it does. They seem to be alot more tolerant in Flonyard. Doesn’t seem to damage Leon’s reputation in the slightest.
