Welcome back to our round robin coverage of Bahamut: Genesis, this week it comes right back to me. Ah well, I love this show, and it doesn’t take much to talk me into writing for it. This week we have doom looming, as it does so well, in the background, and we get a clearer, but not to focused, picture on Amira origins.

You know I would have loved it, through a twist of fate, if Lavaelly were actually Amira’s real father. He has deep maternal feelings for her, and the real truth is that she is half demon, and those guys, with the exception of Kerebus, are just plain rotten. Well she’s rotten too, but she has puppies. I know, what’s demon got to do to get some respect, huh? Well, start Judgement Day. I guess that would be a good start, but more on that later. Other than not having a cool human dad, Amira has to deal with being literally programmed by the forces of darkness to fulfill this plot they have on all Hell’s burners. When you put this together with the fact that she is only five years of age, due to demon age warping, you have one hell of a tragic character. Luckily she has her foolish tragic foil. Jeanne spoke of everyone having a part to play, and I hope helping her hold onto this world of their’s is something he will be able to accomplish. Otherwise, it might spell the end. She still has a Helheim of a journey ahead of her.

Goodness, what do you get for the king that already has everything? If you answered a magic sword, you are a winrar! If you’re Micheal, you have a completely different question. And with this it looks like we might be seeing some parallels with our world’s history, as our mama’s boy king gets all flustered over not getting the cool toy. All’s it takes after that is some shoddy castle security (really, someone was able to slip in that easy?), and a tainted drink to set the King’s jealousy to over drive. I’m suspecting accusations of witchcraft or of working with the demons all along or a mix of both. Life is harsh for Jeanne D’arc, no matter the world. It’s cool that she was able to secure a knighthood for Kaiser and Favaro (not that the sour puss wants one). I wonder how long Kaiser will be able to hang on to his new status once things start to go all pear shaped….

Nice to see that we’ve got a clear goal in mind in demonland. Judgement Day. Now given that this world-build is taking influences from ours, this doesn’t sound like a healthy place for normal folk to be. But I want to know, whom is going to judge whom? It looks like the entire process is either going to be high-jacked to bring back a bigger badder evil in Lord Satan (Shame it isn’t a Saten, as we could use a lovely green haired Level 0). Perhaps pesky Old Scratch wants to re-create the world in his image this time around. Angels better up their game. It looked like they were putting a great deal of play into Jeanne’s roll, but Gabriel reminds them they hold the upper hand, not a human…Overconfidence?

Favaro (Fava? tee hee) just can’t help himself, can he? He keeps giving himself lame excuses to keep this quest going. He’s not even trying to fool himself any more (all this over a little lie), even if he keeps trying to fool the rest. But I do detect the hand of fate behind his actions, so let’s see what he can do with the cards dealt by that hand. Probably cheat, and that’s cool! But it looks like the gang of four is going back to two gangs of two, and both Rita and Kaiser are left behind at the capital. Something tells me that they are going to help out with the shenanigans reveled after the ED….
Dammit, when the King finds out the castle has been invaded…..Heads Are Gonna Roll!

Amira is a 5 year old in a grown woman’s body while Rita is a 200 year old little girl. That’s some interesting stuff there.
Yes skylion, I know who you prefer.And with the King going paranoid now, I feel like Jeanne is going to end up like her legend and get burned at the stakes.
With Fava and Kaisar both knighted, they pretty much qualify to be that knight in the Bahamut legend. Which one of them will be the one is the question, though I guess it leans more to Favaro.
Glad they’re going out of that castle. It felt a bit confined for them to just be there and not going on adventures.
Lastly, Sakurai Takahiro is freaking everywhere with yet another role in here as Lucifer. What’s up with this guy this season.

Damn, that’s 10 roles in one season!!! You’re right; he’s all over the place. Something must have gotten him a good mood. I’d go as far as saying he’s just as ever-present as Yuuki Kaji.

I never saw Gugure, so I didn’t know about that. It was read off of Sakurai’s MAL character list. The others I knew personally because I’m currently watching the series they’re in.
Technically, that would be 9 (8.5) roles this season since Shirogane no Ishi: Argevollen is a carry-over from Summer 2014. Still, it doesn’t change the baffling number of roles Takahiro Sakurai has in the span of just three months. Where does he find the time? Does he spend nights in the studio for pulling all-nighters? The only seiyuus in my mind that can compete with him would be Yuuki Kaji and Kana Hanazawa.

I would draw a rough outline with Favaro facilitating Amira’s quest, and keeping her “human” in some way. Kaiser? Dies and Rita controls him for “reasons”. Yeah, rough outline.

This was another good episode with good information and reveals.
So Lavalley wasn’t her father, but he definitely seems like a better potential father figure than her biological dad, that I’m pretty sure is Beelzebub (blue fire and the look of her blue protector kind of large clues). I wouldn’t be surprised, if he seduced Nicole, just to create a half demon, half angel child that he could use as a weapon in his schemes.
I like that Favaro and Kaisar got knighted, and Jeanne is more than worthy of her namesake (unlike many other anime Jeanne d’Arcs I could name. ), however, I am awfully afraid for her, as it looks like the demons are making a play to turn the king and government against her. I would so cry if poor Jeanne got put to the stake…again.
(Also, is it really such a surprise who was behind poisoning the king? At least Martinet is more subtle about these things then Azazel. 😛 )
Poor Azazel, escaped the holy fire, just to get killed by one of his own. Beelzebub is betraying Lucifer, but who wants to bet that Lucifer already knows and has plans of his own. He is the prince of liars and darkness after all. You don’t get to be that high in Hell without knowing a few things.
Amira is now armed with the truth and back on track to trying to find her mother with Favaro along for the ride! And while Kaisar is happy where he is, I have a feeling that he’s going to go out to help his friend accompanied by Rita.

So, a demon father and an angel mother. That is so like DmC: Devil May Cry. Amira is made a very unique being. I mean, it’d be pretty advantageous to be carrying traits of both warring factions. Walking both worlds without reprisals, endowed with all strengths and virtually no weaknesses. Sounds like a sweet deal if you ask me. But what was done to her is messed up. Full grown and only five years old… She looks about almost four times her actual age.
Tsk, my previous assumptions on incoming trouble for Jeanne seems to be coming true. Why am I not surprised? That name is a genuine curse. Still, I don’t get that king. He has absolutely everything a person could want but whines over not getting a sword, of all things. Seriously, there’s a limit to how greedy a person can get. It’s pathetic that he’s so greedy he let his paranoia expose an opening for him to be manipulated. Should he get wasted later on when his usefulness has run its course, I won’t be shedding any tears.
As for Kaisar returning to glorified knighthood, I have the strangest feeling it’s not going to take long for the reclaimed honor to burn out. Fate doesn’t look like it will allow such a happy end for him. That’s just the way I feel about it.
The demons are preparing for their endgame. My guess is it’s to deliberately release Bahamut and not just rescue their sealed master. That will probably start Judgment Day. There’s one factor that’s been over my head when it concerns demons. Satan and Lucifer are essentially one and the same. So why do the Japanese insist on giving the names to separate individuals? The same occurred in “Hataraku Maou-sama!”

The king is not, strickly speaking, jealous over a sword. As he claims, he is supposed to the be only one that has communion with the Angels. Now they are singling her out. Local Kind Ruins Everything.
AFAIK. Satan is a pre-Christian Abrahamic concept for evil, or the spread of evil. After about the fourth century, the Church had a grasp on the fallen angel aspect, and had Lucifer. After a while, they concept became on an the same, The Devil, that sort of thing. As for why the writers did this? Hey, sounds cool, lots of devils!

It’s not the sword, but where it comes from and what it represents. 😉 The fact that this common farmer girl has risen so high to no only have the favor of the people and the gods, and she’s also altruistic and pious, powerful, and an all around good woman? That’s a threat to a male royal in this culture if there ever was one. All of his men would follow Jeanne over him in a heartbeat, if she asked. It doesn’t matter that she’s completely loyal, he still sees the threat and it will poison him against her as long as she continues to be in that position.
It’s a story as old as time, reminds me of King Saul’s jealousy of David and how it drove him to hunt David for years. Hopefully Jeanne will survive though. I really like her as a character. She’s a tough woman, but she’s also a normal woman as well, with insecurities and weaknesses just like everyone else. Also, she was a woman of great faith, and I like that they show that very well in this series.
As for the whole issue with Satan and Lucifer, I had thought they were the same for a while until recent episodes, and of course I believe they should have just been one being. However, I’m used to Japanese media mincing up Christian themes as they want, and using them as they please. As a Christian, I just roll my eyes at it and think of the story as a fictional tale that they are portraying it as, and they just borrow Christian themes as they desire to give their story more life. In my mind it’s similar to Lord of the Rings: full of allegory and themes, but still a work of fiction, great fiction, but fiction.

Cultures borrow from each other with great historical frequency. Anno Hideaki borrowed from Ambrahamic culture because to Japanese culture that is relatively unknown and therefore seen as exotic as compared to his own.
