Nanatsu no Taizai mid-season review

Ban and Meliodas are best bros for life!

Dayum it has been a while since I posted a Taizai episode review! I guess after discovering it was going to be over twenty four episodes I decided to just do a midseason review and a final review later on and no it isn’t because I don’t enjoy the series because Taizai is a lot of fun! Anyway let’s talk about the batch of episodes.

The Story So Far

Nanatsu (6)

I swear he looks like Goku from DBZ!

After I stopped reviewing this series weekly the gang was going to meet Ban the immortal badass of the seven deadly sins with greed as his curse and we also discovered a bit about his past and how he became immortal thanks to a magical LOLi named Elaine who was in charge of guarding the fountain of youth? Of course if you really want to get technical about her I guess she is one of those special cases like Shinobu from the monogatari series aka over a thousand years old, but now she is a ghost!? While that sucks I have to say I really enjoyed that whole story which tied right into the next character to join the team King! His story was also interesting because he is Elaine’s brother. Then again after we meet him for the first time he looked more like a villain who had some grudge against Ban; however we discovered he blamed Ban for killing his sister without knowing the truth. Thankfully they cleared the air between the two of them after King kicked Ban’s ass for a bit, but of course that is just the manly way to solve your problems right?

Yo Holy Knights!

Nanatsu (7)

What a unique trio and did they steal their ride from Akame ga Kill?!

While the heroes do their part we can’t leave out the holy knights! So what have they been doing? Nothing much besides oh I don’t know how about gaining powers from drinking demon blood? Yeah that part was CRAZY but I guess you have to be worthy of its power or you die? Wow that is a huge risk to take just for the chance at power! Then again the holy knights need some kind of power boost to go up against the seven deadly sins and I think that was the same demon that killed Elaine back in the day? Speaking of demons it looks that Meliodas also has some kind of demonic power flowing through him! I know we saw some of it when he fought Ban in that mini tournament and at the end of episode twelve, but damn I just want to know how he gained those demonic powers and if it has anything to do with why he looks so young? I will take a wild guess and say it is probably a curse of some kind to keep him locked in that child-like body to cut his strength in half or something cheesy like that.

FK YA EXTRA FANTASY

Nanatsu (1)

How is Elizabeth going to wear that top now!?

Nanatsu (2)

mmmmmmm~

Too soon?

End Thoughts

I have enjoyed the hell out of Taizai lately! Especially the goofy tournament because we got to see a human sized Diane swap places with Elizabeth who got shrunk down to the size of a doll because of a magic mushroom? Sure why not? It also gave Diane a chance to have a few fanservice moments, but I will say the highlight has been the character interactions between the main cast! I also found it both cute and funny how King has a huge crush on Diane, but will she ever notice him? I will go ahead and say probably not because as it stands that might just be used as a comedic element! While that is funny to watch I can’t forget to mention the death of Elizabeth’s sister who we barely got to know before she died! I feel sorry for her but again we barely knew that character so it was hard to feel truly sad! I guess we will see how it affects Elizabeth later on? Anyway who is your favorite character so far? I can’t pick any right now because I like all of them and the OST is quite good along with the opening and ending! I also need to ask do you want me to go back to weekly reviews for this series or are you fine with huge batches at once? Please let me know.

Heard that the author Nakaba is a fan of DBZ so the semblance is there. Well, both Oda of One Piece and Mashima of Fairy Tail are also fans of Toriyama, hence their art style as well. It’s hard to find people who aren’t influenced by DBZ nowadays.

BanBaaan vs MeliodasMeliodafu was intense. Those two were going at it like they were killing each other. And they’re comrades and all. If they showed that kind of power against enemies, they wouldn’t have any more enemies by the end of it. Is that why they seem to be holding back when fighting against the Holy Knights? They could probably kill anyone if they want to so they hold back their power. The Knights are no pushovers though as they still fought King evenly.

They’re making slight changes in the order of things but it doesn’t make much of a difference. You’d only notice it if you did read the manga first. For example, they actually met Veronica and his big bodyguard Griamor first before the tournament started. That was where the pendant was first given to Elizabeth and she was wearing it before they met again. Here, they met after the tournament got cancelled and then the pendant was shown. Either way, it still leads to Demon Meliodas, which is bad news for everyone, Sins and Knights alike. I actually forgot if Mel will lose his arm here. It will make sense why Kaji Yuki was casted for him if he does.

I’m fine with either weekly or a batch post. Whichever is convenient for you. Subs are pretty irregular after all unless you’re using the crappy Fedsubs. I actually just watch the raws and wait for Chyuu later.

I imagine that must be inconvenient and frustrating at times. Wouldn’t that bother you seeing what’s going on but not understanding because you don’t speak Japanese?

      • belatkuro says:

I’ve already read the manga if that wasn’t obvious enough. I’ve been watching the raws of shows that I’ve read the source material. Been doing this for years now.

        • BlackBriar says:

I can see why it wouldn’t be bothersome if people followed that method. It’s just that when the subs are out, they’re not exactly the same as read out in the manga. For me, I read “Strike the Blood” long before an anime adaption was announced, so I already knew what was coming.

    • Foshizzel says:

Ohhh yeah I know that Oda, Mashima and artist for Taizai are huge DBZ fans and I think some of them are friends irl? So yeah its obvious they are influenced by Toriyama which is very cool~

Oh my god Ban vs Meliodas was EPIC even the first time they reunite was so damn funny because the wrecked that prison and you might be right about them holding back against the holy knights! Especially with Meliodas’s demonic powers and King is also quite powerful as well.

I heard manga fans are annoyed at the anime for skipping things, but they have to learn its going to happen eventually because they gotta get to the good parts before they run out of episodes! I mean what would you rather have dumb filler? I suppose filler is worse than skipping canon.

Yeah I am not picky about subs anymore as I used to be! I guess its like I don’t want to wait so I rather just get to it and enjoy the anime! I mean really Taizai is NOT that hard to follow lol.

Let’s see… Blonde hair, emerald green eyes and a carefree, confident, overpowered nature. It’s hard trying not to mistake Meliodas for a Super Saiyan. Only now I’ve thought of it after reading the caption.

I’m up to episode 12 right now but this is one hell of a show. It’s awesome and I’m enjoying it more and more. Meliodas is badass and all but Ban is the one stealing the show. He’s just too cool and his relationship with King’s sister Elaine had feels.

Among the bad guys, some are intimidating, others are plain creepy. The one I’d look out for is Guila who had enough abandon to put herself half dead in order to cross over to the Capital of the Dead. You’ve got to have screw loose if such extreme measures are taken like it’s so casual. It’s ironic and a contradiction the means the new generation recruits are using to get so strong. Really… “Holy Knights” drinking demon blood for a massive power boost.

    • Foshizzel says:

Indeed! I can tell his design is easily inspired by DBZ!

I love the cast of characters I think that is the strongest part of why it is so enjoyable especially with Meliodas not flaunting his power or showing off! He does get a bit pervy which is slightly different than most Shounen leads which is fine because that part of his character is hilarious.

The holy knights are just as interesting as the seven deadly sins much like the Assassins and the other team in Akame ga Kill, but yeah that demon blood thing was a surprise!

With the Super Saiyan look he has, I’d just go ahead and say he has a bit of Master Roshi in him where perversion is concerned.

Night Raid’s antagonists in Akame ga Kill! were the Jaegers. They shouldn’t even call themselves “Holy Knights” anymore if using demon blood is their avenue to power.

I like this one quite a bit. It gives me an opportunity to watch the kinds of shows I normally avoid due to long running status (Gintama, Fairy Tale) or lack of interest (Bleach, et.al.).

…and WHY?! WHY KILl the LOLi!!!!!!?????

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

To satisfy the cravings of the anti-LOLi faction that’s why.

And now we return you to our regularly scheduled dose of pork products BBQ.
