Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle – 09

Avenging Battle 09-002

Pretty much everyone’s YFW….

Well, I would say, Welcome back the Relic Hunt, but that is no longer a going concern.  So instead I will say, welcome to the quite the bizarre birthing experience. I would love to see What to Expecting When Your Expecting: Gaz Edition.  No, I take that back, I really don’t want to see that. OMG MY EYES!

The Throne that Invites War

So who would pay money for a LEGO set of this? I would….

Well, from the moment that Chaika Gaz said, “I eat them”, I knew that this was going to be the start of one hell of wild ride. I don’t think I’m alone when I say, that I was glad for it, that it was awesome, and it was very well, if sooooooo creepily done. Kudos to the creative staff for this. ‘Cause, you know, if this would have been a clean sort of resurrection, like all obscuring magic light and Ta Da, New Gaz, I would have been a bit upset in comparison. This was fitting for the Grand Plan of Emperor Gaz, a messy rebirth just like the first one he experienced.

At this point it hardly matters where the dessert fork goes. Itadakimasu!

So how did everyone’s detective work pay out? I don’t think I was spot on, as I called Guy a spoiler working another agenda, so no full points to me. But I have to admit, I worked that out cause it felt like a neat little aside, a further complication. As it is, Guy as the younger likeness of Gaz, directing the whole show, the magician in control of every step of the trick is a great narrative and character device. But I do recall saying the Chaika was more of a concept. And now we’ve seen that Concept come to it’s conclusion. I don’t know about anyone else, but the moment Gaz denied that White was his daughter, I was quite relieved. She took it pretty badly, but c’mon. It’s a blessing dear. Goodness, the level way he explained the plan to everyone was just shocking. They could have played that with megalomania, but they choose the control evil approach. Chaotic Dumb is Dumb.

Yep, just putting this here…

A World of Perpetual War

The concept’s that came out of this give me chills. It’s one thing to whip up magic using fuel, intent, and a Gundo, but this is magic of a different animal. Well, many different Fayla, as we saw in earlier episodes. But to take the life, the functions, the quests of all the Chaika’s and have that as components in a spell. Pretty Darned Epic. I love how it was the background story all along, and it flows so beautifully from the start of the first cour, to these moments.

With great power…

But I think Gaz may be planting the seeds of his own undoing. Let’s face it, his new body is a Mark I, and those things always have bugs. A careful observer could find a way to exploit that. Plus, if Chaika is a system to restore him, and assuming the conditioning is part of the system, then there has to be a way to reverse it once the truth has been revealed to White, and probably to Red as well.  I mean she has found more value in her companions than in the Hunt. And finally, I don’t think his claim that everyone wants war is accurate, just look at the folks standing up for peace. I know that the side of peace looks weak, but if he’s absorbing everyone’s feelings, he’s gonna get all of them, including resistance. I wonder how the Mighty will fall….

No matter the from, no matter what happens, I still love Fred. This is just her version of seeing her with bedhead

So how did everyone enjoy the ride. Pretty darn boss, if I do say my own self. It really feels like they put a nice ribbon on all the wrapping that has been developing over the course of the two shows. But, our story isn’t done yet. What do you think will happen next?

I think Red is gonna get her groove back

Oh my god! You killed Fred! You bastards!

I stand by my theory: By your Chaikas combined, I am Emperor Gaz. 😀

I wonder what Bishounen Gaz and Ikemen Gaz look like.
I mean, he just skipped from Shota Gaz to Thirtysomething Gaz!! It’s not fair for the female fans who like seeing hot male villians.

      • HannoX says:

He’s still a hot male villain. Remember what Henry Kissinger said, “Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.” It’d be hard to be more powerful than Emperor Gaz.

Time is of the essence when you’re planning to start a war that will consume the planet. Sacrifices must be made. 😉

It was interesting that the whole big thing about Arthur Gaz coming back to life wasn’t “Mwahahahaa! I’m back to get all of you!” It was “Ah, that was a nice nap, now I’m back, rested and more powerful than ever.” It’s not even that he’s back to rule over everyone. For him, ruling is kind of a pain. It’s nice for him to see people running around and doing things, but it’s not like he wants to run everything his way.

Well this was not exactly unexpected by any means. I did not expect Guy to be Gaz, but it does make sense. I suppose we will see how the surviving Chaikas fight back and what they choose to do after the series ends.

    • skylion says:

I was on the fence as to whether Guy was part of Gaz’s plan or a spoiler element. Like I said, I was favoring a spoiler cause that seems like a good story wrinkle.

Well, what can they do? They are out-gunned. So that means another route…since the whole thing feels rushed, I’m going for some sorta “power of love” thing.

      • Krono says:

lol well Vivi’s fortune from the 1st season does lead credence to that theory if that has not already been fulfilled when she brought him back by chopping off his hand.

  4. BlackBriar says:

A great build up, everything was leading to this one moment. So my earliest theory of gathering the remains to revive Gaz turned out to be the right guess. The one surprise is Guy being part of Gaz’s mind or his avatar, so to speak. Though it’s a hell of a risky move, a long shot letting himself get killed then revived just to attain an extra bit of power from the fear of death. I wonder if he was that convinced the Chaikas would be successful in getting the severed parts. I mean, nothing’s a guarantee. Going by his own words, it was never about ruling over others but being tasked with the responsibility of satisfying humanity’s darkest and most negative tendencies. What a twisted sense of duty if you ask me.

      These bits are connected.

And as far as a sense of duty goes, it’s just all flowery language…
