MetaFap: Fall ’14 – 01 [NSFW]
Welcome back to another season of Metafap!
Metafap is back! We here at Metanorn decided that we were covering enough fanservice shows this season that it made sense to revive it this season. Please enjoy our coverage of Madan no Ou to Vanadis, Grisaia no Kajitsu, and starting next week, Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu! |
Madan no Ou to Vanadis
Now here’s a lady who commands your attention.
How can such a good episode be so bad? Alternatively, how can such a bad episode be so good? Let’s start with the good, because that’s the more unexpected part. I love how Tigre broke out of prison. It’s the exact political move he needed to make in this situation instead of his emotional “I’m gonna go back to die fighting for my country” bit. Actually, one might say Ellenora was the one who made the move, as she seemed to be goading him toward that the whole time, being hurt ostensibly that he wanted to fight her instead of simply asking her for help. I really like this side of her: smart and cunning, in control, and through it all upbeat. It’s so great when a character feels like a person rather than a collection of moe tropes.
Unfortunately, the episode had to spend a lot of time on Titta, who is a collection of moe tropes and nothing more. Let’s see… fiercely loyal maid meido, twin tails, childhood friend, saved by protagonist from creepy suitor rapist. That last part was just ugh. As if they hadn’t done enough to make the spoiled psychopathic man-child son of the evil duke seem comically evil, they just had to throw in attempted rape. And not the kind that makes sense: the dude was so obsessed with being evil that he completely ignored his military responsibilities, which would usually include having some allies around to secure the area, check his 6, and keep lookout for enemies while he goes raping the locals. Give me a smart evil villain over a stupid evil villain any day of the week.
At least it gave Tigre a good excuse to show off his 1337 5killz in a display that was heck of a lot more impressive than in episode 1. Still not great mind you, but his shooting at least looked skillful rather than lucky. At this point, I’m realizing that great action isn’t something to expect from this series. But the direction the story is going with respect to the politics is genuinely interesting and enough to support the show. Let’s hope there’s more of that next week instead of moe meido flashbacks.
Tigre’s such a player, he’s got not one but two women brushing his hair! With their hands! Lewd!
“How dare she wear practical maid clothing in a light novel anime? We must to fix this immediately!”
“Gosh, I hope Tigre-sama comes home soon… and doesn’t check this bow for stains.”
You just can’t convey quite how EVIL this evil rapist is if you don’t show us a closeup of Titta being forcibly held down with her underwear visible through her ripped clothes..

Grisaia no Kajitsu
A wild tsundere appears!
This episode of Grisaia plays like a VN, true to its origins. I’ve never even personally played a VN before, but Yuuji going around talking to the girls mostly one at a time felt very much in that style. In particular, that one scene with the ever tsundere Michiru immediately following Amane’s interrogation of Yuuji about his romantic relationships felt like it was ripped straight from a VN. Just slap on the little overlay with text and controls at the bottom of the screen, and voilà!
Look ma, I caught me an imouto!
More seriously, this episode mainly focuses on Yumiko. There’s been some debate as to how the adaptation will handle the different routes, and this might suggest that the anime will in fact follow Yumiko’s route. However, I suspect it’s more the case that the girls will take turns in the spotlight for a couple of episodes each. For that matter, this episode wasn’t even a purely Yumiko-centric one. Makina definitely received some attention of her own in the first half of the episode as she warmed up to Yuuji surprisingly quickly. I guess the girl will latch on to any person whom she sees as a potential caretaker. But I digress.
Back to Yumiko, we learn that she’s not some sort of yandere, but rather a demure girl who cares strongly for her fellow classmates. That’s great, except she has a weird way of looking at things. Seriously, whose evaluation of a school’s first male student is that he will rape all the girls? And what kind of preemptive intervention is attempted murder? It’s not like she’s just harassing him to scare him away. She was seriously trying to kill the guy with that little box cutter of hers. Now, I understand it didn’t help that Yuuji’s history being covered up by his friends in high places looked suspicious. But that still doesn’t change the fact that Yumiko’s reception to his arrival was unorthodox to say the least.
Footjob intensifies.
As a whole, this was a fairly strong second showing. The character development was as expected, and I am really enjoying Yuuji’s interactions with the girls. I will say that I was a bit disappointed we didn’t get to see the sniper rifle and bombs in action. But all things in due time, I suppose. Grisaia also continues to give us an epilogue as the credits roll and the ED song plays, instead of the usual ED animation. This is kind of novel, as that sort of treatment is usually reserved for a finale or premiere. But hey, it’s nice to see that much more story-relevant content, even if it’s just for about two minutes.

I kind of like Vanadis after the 1st episode, but after watching ep 2 decided to not continue. Maybe if it gets better along the way, I’ll check it out toward the end.
I did like Grisaia 1st episode, but I’ll wait for the BDs.

A wise choice, I’m sure.

Vanadis: Ellenora is a great character, and Titta is terrible. The second half of the episode really dragged when it turned into “I need to wait here to be assaulted!” And the “I need to keep holding on to this bow, even though that totally exposes me!” was eye-rolly.
But Elle is really cool with the “My Wind Sword can do anything the plot requires!” Even though that’s kinda silly, she’s still got chops, and so does Tigre. I hope the show isn’t “Titta gets her meido-twintails in trouble and Tigre has to save her” from now on.

I’m not sure why Titta even EXISTS at this point, other than eye candy. Considering the war politics direction the story seems to be going, and that she’s a freaking MAID, what significance can she have in the story? I guess she could do stuff any other civilian could in when their town is under siege, but what we’ve seen of her this episode makes me think she’s much more likely to be the one being protected than the one doing the protecting. Total waste to spend so much time with her story this episode.

Titta is the worst character of the season. The only useful thing she’s done, and likely the only useful thing she’ll ever do, is give the black bow to Tigre.

Fruit of the Loins.
Fruit of the Honeypot.
Fruit of the Cherrytree.
Fruit of the skylolion’s adventure.Err… Ignore the last one.
But seriously, do we need that many panchira? Might as well get straight to the H-scenes instead. As Shiroyasha said, teasing is better.
And it looks like the season of the raep from two particular shows…
Meanwhile, Kokkuri-san is strangely an amusing show.

Grisaia: This really has the makings of a good show. Yeah, it’s kinda like playing a VN, but it’s interesting enough (I’ve only played one VN, so just kinda going from extrapolation there). The characters are really keeping it nice.

No Trinity Seven? That fits well in here.
Vanadis: The second half might have been in bad taste but that’s about it for now for Titta. She won’t matter much in the long run except losing against Ellen’s charms(another childhood friend losing). There’s only one more part where she matters later on but it’ll be mostly Tigre and Ellen fighting together. Especially Tigre and his mad archer skills. You ain’t seen nothing yet.
Grisaia: This is still the common route even if it focused mostly on Yumiko. While I haven’t started her route yet, it’s still far off to tell which route the anime will focus on. The common route is pretty long and focuses on each of the girls. We got Yumiko and Makina for now and from the title next episode, I know who they will start with. There are people arguing that it’s going to be Yumiko route due to her prominence in the OP but that’s still too vague to say.
Funny that you say that it’s like playing a VN as they’re actually using the OSTs from the VN, even down to the music of JB’s car’s departure. Those chibi parts leading to Yumiko’s pantsu shot is also a part of VN as well and I like it that they added them.
With the episode count being 13 episodes according to some sources, people are already panicking on how this will go and of course which girl will get her route adapted. I’m not worrying much as we’ll know it when we get there. I’m just gonna enjoy it for now.

Trinity Seven was considered. However, we decided to exclude it due to its inconvenient airing date.

I think Amagi might also qualify for a Fap.
With Grisia, I can honestly say there is more fanservice in the show than in the VN, but since we probably won’t get any H-Scenes in the anime, I guess it balances out. I’m not familiar with Japanese censorship laws, but I know that having penetration makes it porn, and they blur the genitalia either way. Maybe they will cut away from a sex scene?
With how heavily they are hinting at Amane’s backstory, they will have to at least give her some time to tell about her horrible life. Not to mention, her story is tied very deeply to Yuji. But it is in Makina’s route we learn the most about Yuji. (And let me just say Makina’s bad end is the worst of all the bad ends there are)

Welcome back, MetaFAP! Looks like I’m following both MetaFAP shows so far…
Madan no Ou is surprisingly decent. I wasn’t even going to watch it, but I accidentally downloaded it so I figured I might as well go for it. I’m enjoying the large scale war that’s going on right from the start of the show. But like pretty much everyone…I could have done without Titta. When a character’s name is one letter away from Titty, you know they’re going to be garbage.
The girls of Grisaia intrigue me, and I like how we’re mixing and matching the routes together so far. But my God is the main dude boring. I guess the psychopathic ladies make up for it?

You think he’s boring? I actually found him to be interestingly opaque.
Boring is the dude from Daitoshokan.

MetaFap has been revived!
Grisaia no Kajitsu: This is a surprise. Looking at the shows’ tags, I didn’t expect much but went in still simply on a whim. So I have to say it’s doing well.

Madan no Ou to Vanadis:
You said a mouthful and I’m confident enough to say I wouldn’t mind being stepped on by her. I figured if Tigre would need help from Eleonora, he’d have to offer his homeland as collateral. With a girl who has virtually everything, what else could you give her for fair value?
That douche of a prince got his just desserts but one arrow doesn’t cut it for a depraved individual like him.
