Ilya was pretty much always on the defense this episode
There was quite a bit to take in with this level of combat. The first thing is, of course, the fact that this monster can be knocked around a bit, and that there is a chance to do her some real damage. As I said last episode, the fight inside the mansion was greatly expanded upon, and if you believe what you might read on the net, it was at the request of Hiroshi Hiroyama, the mangaka of the source material. So, hey, if he wants it, then that’s his super power, but it was still on the unnecessary side. So much can be told by not specifically showing stuff. Besides, one less sequence that features prominent use of those crazy crane shots, would make the combat sequences feel fresher…not repetitive. With this being the fourth such combat escapade using said technique for this series, they really had to up the ante quite a bit. How do you folks think they pulled it off. For my money, I felt they did rather grand. My opening pic is perhaps my favorite part of the entire episode. Get than monster’s feet off the ground!
LOLi-bullying is NOT COOL!
And for seconds, I love the sheer level of brutality a physical fighter brings to a magical girl style show. The monster was over-used previously, but for these combat scenes she felt much more like a real character, as opposed the asskicing asskicker of Asskickvania. Did anyone else do a complete double take on how Ilya landed after taking that blow? It was all in line with a magical girl show, cause she just coasted into that impact like she was a feather falling into a warm bed of sweet dreams and sleepy kittens. Now, in universe, that must have been a last ditch effort by Ruby to save Ilya from some serious damage, but the real reason is that no one wants to see the anime realistic details of a child hitting pavement face first…to say nothing of the hit that got her there in the first place!
“…all to easy”
And for physically, they do add an extra layer. It seems that in the middle of her fight, Kuro forgot about the curse she’s under. It was a great play on her part of let Ilya get her head on straight and buy time for either Kuro to take the offensive again, or the hope that another magical girl would arrive on time. Plus, I gotta go back and add how they gave some easy pacing to the affair with Ruby giving us a bit of breathing space in her pause to allow the action to spring out as it did. Good efforts.
You do not bully Miyu’s girl
And for thirds, maybe even desert (she was looking for yokan all this time) we have Miyu, literally coming in like the cavalry to charge the opponent. You know, this is a personal gripe, but of all the Noble Beasts she could have chosen, a hippogryph is fine, but a gryphon would have been much much much more awesome, right? That aside, I still love this particular scene to bits. A visual medium should push itself to be visually challenging, and this fits that bill right? I was hooping, “Fly higher, fly her into that darn bridge!” A very much in the moment feel to it. I felt Bazett’s lose of equilibrium with each and every swoop. But what comes up, must go down. Hard.
And with the fight still in full swing, we have to bring out the trump cards. As Ruby fully warns Ilya near the beginning of the episode, Bazett is even more of a monster with her weapon of choice. They didn’t name this weapon or what it does, but with the forewarning, which Miyu was not on scene to hear, and Sapphire’s blatant warning that she does hear, we should be able to figure out that it is a game changer. But for all that, nice use of Mystic Eyes, and Bellerophon. Will it be her undoing?

That was an exceptional cliffhanger. With that white hot comet of a horse bearing down on Bazett, and her finally pulling her weapon out of the box, what can we expect. With this being the final episode, we can probably expect quite a bit in a short amount of time. At this stage, I’m giving upon on tracking the manga pages to adaption scenes, and I’m just going to sit back and enjoy. These are the moments I waited for, and I’m glad to see that pay off. What did you folks, think
* This is a bit of a gag for followers of the source material. But if you follow the linked youtube video to the end, you’ll find a pun for Bazett’s weapon. I apologize in advance…

As for the Beast that Rider Miyu is using, it’s connected to the legend of the Heroic Spirit of Rider so that’s why it’s a Pegasus. While she can ride any Divine Beasts, this one is particularly special and one of the most powerful Beasts out there.

OK, first, that was a singular ball…
And, yes, yes, yes. This Rider’s background is very much tied into Pegasus. But….skylion means gryphon…and do I have to explain that bit?

Yes, yes you do, because I was going to comment on it being a Pegasus as well. A Pegasus that’s nearly as powerful as a dragon. Medusa’s Pegasus has been level-grinding for millenia: this ain’t your average flying horse.

Miyu rides a skylion…was I really not that obvious?

In a way… that sounds… questionable. Especially when Miyu is riding on top. 😛

Remember that Miyu is holding something in her left hand 😉

They expanded Miyu’s little shopping trip which was just mentioned in the manga.
I like how the Bazett made the tree fall and the subsequent falling. Bazett can see the Archer in “Clo”. 😛
Bazett also like Illya’s soft smooth thighs…
Illya’s delicious tieon pantsu… wait… no one saw that. *innocent whistle*
AntiNoble Phantasm: Fragarach.
From what it looks like, if 2wei does well, we might get a 24 episode season of 3rei incorporating everything else. Or 2wei season 2… but given the ending of 2wei is a huge cliffhanger that directly leads into 3rei…
In the meantime,… *goes to enjoy full BD version of Jibril 0:3*

You so saw the strings.
At this point, I cannot offer further opinion on how they will adapt in the future. Given, as you say, the expanded shopping scene, then how they frame it all from here on out is just a matter of waiting. But I’m keen.

Totally epic from start to finish. I’d say the fight between Bazett and the girls takes second place to last season’s fight when Illya battled Saber using the Archer card. I liked Illya’s tactics using intelligence when power failed because it isn’t always the strongest who wins but the smartest.
For using a Noble Phantasm against Bazett to be ill advised, she must be quite a monster.
