Kicking your ass makes Tama happy!

Never give up, never surrender. And never ever ever play by half measures.

Straightforward

wixoss 3-2

 Everyone will know anyway

There are many ways to skin a cat and there are many ways to play the game. That probably says quite a bit about your personality. What path do you take on the road to winning or losing? For Yuzuki, it’s either straightforward, it’s is no game. This very much suits Red, being fiery, passionate, burning. But against Akari and her Peeking Technique, it cannot achieve victory. Yuzuki thinks she hitting the deck with Blood and Thunder, but Thud and Blunder is the real outcome. Is it that straightforward nature of hers that even keeps her from changing play strategy, to the point of not even waiting for better cards to come along. Akari is in the game, and she’s just the same as last time; brash, manipulative, eager to stomp on her opponent. I love how she takes such pleasure in not just playing to win, but in getting into her opponents head’s.

She may be timid but she plays like a boss

Rightly so, Hitoe is quite peeved with Ruuko’s lack of ambition, and willingness to lay down arms to let someone else win. This is not an honest way, and may even taint the wish. In  that the battle between Red and Blue hits us with the dark environs we’ve seen before, White and Green takes us to a very different battlefield; one that Hitoe herself almost finds peaceful. It’s a nice mechanic, and very well displayed. The temperaments of the players and their decks build the environment in which they do battle. It’s ironic that Hitoe chose Ruuko as her opponent; some who this timid girl see’s as weak. But with this contest, Ruuko finally decides to play for real. Tama will not take her lax ways, and finally uses real words to communicate her desire. Seem sthat both LRIG and Selector Evolved in the end.

Underneath the Surface

Girl, you done blown you’re cool

Personally, I’m a quite spooked by both Akira’s turn to the yandere and Piruruko’s still cold unyielding demeanor. It takes more than winning the games to become Eternal Girl? What is that exactly? At this point we don’t know and that will have to be the mystery we face in upcoming episodes. And I will ask who is playing who when the LRIG’s in the final act look to be the ones holding the cards?

wixoss 3-5

I really want her to catch a break

One thing Hayano-san states when Yuzuki is afraid of her secret desire being revealed. Everyone will know anyway if the wish is granted. She looks be be tempering Akira’s hot straightforward nature. And is nice to get the back story provided by her brother Kazuki, that she helped him when he needed it most, he is only happy to return the favor. With the other LRIG we see similar  as Piruruko is granting only piecemeal knowledge to a girl that probably cannot handle to much. Tama is goading Ruuko on and on to get out of her shell, and finally Midoriku is the friend that Hitoe has always needed.

Some from the booster pack

Show ▼

In conclusion, with the lack of game mechanics and rules coming from the show, we are getting much deeper into the characters. I still find this to be quite refreshing, as it is a welcome change from exposition drops. Bring me the drama. I’m also quite looking forward to seeing what top idol Iona is capable of (wonderfully voiced by Asami Seto, WCW’s Ayaka Kagari) with her LRIG’s yanyan temperament (FK YA Rei Kugiyama’s evil performance). Even though they are still playing the games on those blasted tables, the show just keep on intriguing me. I’ll see you next time.

    Oooh… a nearly naked shota…

I wonder how much of what LRIG (which bothers me every time, yah yah, it’s ‘girl’ backwards) you get is related to what girl you are. Are they supposed to be complementary, or are they supposed to be opposites? And it’s almost like the personalities of the LRIGs are contra to their colors, if the colors match the personalities of the players. Yuzuki is hot-blooded and straightforward, but Hayano is more even-tempered. Akira is voyeuristic, deriving nearly obscene pleasure from exposing other people, but Piriluk almost feels disgusted to be associated with her. And Iona seems cool and almost well-adjusted, while Urisu is seemingly psychopathic.

Meanwhile, outgoing Tama is paired with fairly reserved Ruuko, and their opposite nature is more in how they want to play: Ruuko didn’t think she minded losing, and Tama just wants to fight and win.

I almost want to see Urisu and Akira put together and watch that pair self-destruct.

That’s a good initial question; and I await the answers, as I think the contra-personalities are going to be a good “undervibe” for the show.

Wow. That would be an episode, Urisu and Akira….::shudders::

Maybe it the most H compatible with user?

Tama wants BATTLE! I loved how she evolved and it also makes me think shes going to get more aggressive as the story goes and I heard a theory that Tama might take over Ruuko’s body/mind? I don’t remember where I saw it though but it seems crazy!

Ruuko made a friend though and that was a really touching moment <3

I loved how they played with the comp/contrast moments this episode.

Wow. Possession by LRIG is not something I would have expected, but it does play into some of the stuff they got going with the show.

      • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I mean I could see that possession working if all the talking cards were humans who lost the game previous and had their souls taken? LOL it seems a bit crazy but why not ahahaha

        • skylion says:

Ah, yes, Wixoss is the gift that keeps on giving!

        • BlackBriar says:

That almost sounds like a penalty from Yu-Gi-Oh! Anyone who loses in a shadow game would have their soul stripped away and their body remains as a mindless husk.

~Those damn tables. Probably the only thing I’m disappointed about in this show.

A part of me wanted Yuzuki to just say ‘Fuck you, I’m in love with my brother. I don’t care!’ and kick ass in that battle, but of course that didn’t happen…

    • skylion says:

I kinda wish they would do that as well; but I think I find the dynamic here more interesting that the build up and fall out our mutual take on it would entail.

    • Highway says:

That’s what Hayano is trying to say. It is odd that so many of these girls have wishes that they think are shameful: Yuzuki’s wish for Kazuki to see her as a woman he loves, Hitoe’s wish for friends. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Akira’s wish is something she considered shameful as well (notice that she’s always doing the exposing of other’s wishes, not trumpeting the virtues of her own).

FWIW, I’ll restate here my support for Yuzuki to love whoever will love her back, no matter who they are. This applies to any show with incest or other supposedly ‘taboo’ relationships between consenting humans.

      • skylion says:

The shameful wish? Could it be that Ruuko has nothing she is ashamed of?

        • Highway says:

I’m not saying that all the girls’ wishes are necessarily something to be ashamed of. Hitoe’s isn’t something to be ashamed of, more that she’s ashamed she has no friends, which is the fulcrum that Akira used to lever her out of her game. But I do find it interesting that there’s an element of shame to so many of the wishes. They’re things that they want that they think they can’t actualize, but not because they’re impossible.

  6. BlackBriar says:

Akira revealing her more volatile self is hardly surprising. I mean, if you’re despicable enough to take pleasure in taunting and utterly humiliating your opponents, then you’re capable of falling even into depravity.

Not very bright when emotional. She clearly doesn’t realize who’s holding the reins in the contest. Tearing the LRIG card would prove more costly to her than the girl inside. It’s the very thing giving her a shot at getting her wish.

And I’m still surprised that ppl are still defending and justifying Akira actions. To me she about as obnoxious as Kagari frm BRS and I just can’t see any of her actions are just.

    • Highway says:

I don’t know if ‘just’ comes into it. She has freedom to act the way she wants, provided she accepts the consequences that accompany acting like that. I find it likely that the show will bring those consequences to her, and she’ll get what she has fostered, good and hard.

      • skylion says:

Ah, time willing, this was what I was going to say. Any that justifies her actions are probably looking into a rather hopeful miror…
