First Impression – Seitokai Yakuindomo*

The best student council is back!

I’m not so sure who watches Seitokai Yakuindomo except me and lvlln, but I believe it is one of the best anime GoHands ever made. Too bad it’s underrated, since it has some of the best things that will make the audience laugh in tears. For those who haven’t watched it, do watch it! You won’t regret it

The first episode of Seitokai Yakuindomo started strongly by exposing the audience with its type of joke in Engrish and, out of all people, showing the dog first. The audience doesn’t need to remember what kind of anime SYD was because the first episode reminded us right away. There is also no need for the audience to open MAL whatsoever to search for the characters, since the characters were introduced with a straightforward manner with those big letters and perverted jokes that always popped out from Shino (president) and Aria (secretary). I do like how straightforward the first episode was at re-introducing the characters and so on. It lacks complexity and fuss, which is very SYD.

As for the content of SYD, I can’t say much about it except the fact that it’s still as great as season one’s. Just like lvlln said on twitter, SYD has the tendency to repeat the same style of joke in every possible scene and in every possible manner, but somehow, it still works . Unlike Recorder & Ransel, which jokes literally became dead less tha halfway of the anime, the jokes in SYD will always sound refreshing, and it will never fail at making the audience giggle in excitement. SYD was great, and it’s still great until now.

If there is one thing that’s different from the first season, it has to be the animation. I can see they decided to fuss some CG into the setting and some of the scenes, and it turned out to be… Decent, I guess. I have stopped complaining about CG after I watched Ars Nova. What I really like about the first episode is the angles of the camera. It seems that the director experienced a lot in this episode, since every possible angle is made possible in this episode. I think it’s nice compared to the dull angles that were used in season one. Moreover, the characters actually moved instead of using still images, which is a good thing for a first episode I guess. Overall, there were many improvements made already when it comes to the animation and so on, and I see this as a good way to start the anime. Let’s just hope it stays like this until the last episode. Impossible

It’s hard to make a full post of Seitokai Yakuindomo. It’s something that cannot be conveyed with words since the full experience can only be made possible by watching the anime. So I won’t continue making posts of SYD, but I’m still watching it until the end. I’m hooked by this anime already, and I’m sure many will if they watch it. There will be no posts, but I still recommend this anime I everybody’s watch list. Do eeeeeeet.

I kind of thought there was too much shininess. Like the Chrome-seeming limo that Aria was in, and all the buildings, everything was too shiny. GoHands might just need to turn down the reflectivity a little. 🙂

I thought the jokes were pretty good. Nene dropping, er, something in front of Suzu (and we all know what Nene carries around) may have been my favorite one.

Compared to K-Project, SYD is milder when it comes to the shiny animation. K-Project was just too much. It seems that it’s GoHands’ habit to make things shiny though. Is it like that also with Copellion? I dropped it on the first episode.

My favorite is when the sister and Nene said the same thing Aria said, which was blocked by Tsuda and Suzu. Tsuda needs more backup plans in his pocket, heh

Copellion wasn’t as shiny, but had more full screen gradients than SYD does (but not as much as K). They’re all definitely the same art style, tho.

Second season of SYD is like first season of SYD, only second. Me watch.

Will be fun if it becomes the best show of the season.

I’m not so sure if it will become the best show since there are other shows that are much better, animation-wise, but it is definitely GoHand’s best show of the year. And 2014 just started

Yay! More of the Adventures of Suzu’s Head! I mean that in the cleanest way possible, and by cleanest, I mean…

They went nuts with cinematography! Just all over the place, it was a film version of the show. I don’t think they’ll continue this trend. That seems pretty high budget.

My favorite was Tsuda and Suzu knowing Aria enough to “censor” her, but not knowing Nene and Tsuda’s own sister enough to expect the same by now.

Very funny episode just like Season One. And it’s a great concept for humor having two girls who’ll say the most outrageous things rather than the normally shy and reserved Japanese female. The against-type usually works well in humor. But even knowing these two will say the most outrageous things doesn’t detract from how funny it is when they say it. Instead you sit there anticipating, just waiting for it. So you’ve already primed yourself for the laugh when it comes.

I’ll be watching to the end.

    • anaaga says:

Now that you said it, I just realized that most Japanese girls won’t say such outrageous things in public (because I’m kind of like that, heh). Maybe that’s what makes this show unique compared to other comedy anime.
What makes the jokes refreshing is how the jokes can be related to real life. We know that we can say those jokes to those friends, and we know that there are some people who use sex toys like that in real world. It’s nice to have a comedy show that’s simple but can be related to the audience

SYD IS BACK! SYD IS BACK! I swear I loooveeeeee this series and WOW dat first episode was basically like ALL the budget blown in one go from the airplane scene to the shots of the city and all the characters <3

It feels good to have this series back in our lives~

    • anaaga says:

It’s as if the entire budget of this season went to the first episode. Will we even have the second episode? Heh.

    • Highway says:

Actually, I’d be surprised if those animations (like the airplane) cost that much. That was pretty basic CG.
