Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai Ren – 02

Chuu2koi Ren-Rawr!

Rawr! Table Flipping Time!

spring13-highwSo how many shows is everyone watching? I’m right around 30, with some probably going to drop off and at least one more to give a try to. I’m not exactly being ‘ruthless’ with shows I’m deciding not to watch, but I’m definitely dropping a few. But I surely won’t drop this show! Let’s see how episode 2 was.

Different Expectations

Chuu2koi Ren-spanking

The most intimate they have been, as Yuuta gives her a good Chase & Sanborning

Shinka can’t believe how little progress Yuuta and Rikka have made, even now living together. She’s imagining a life of cuddles and kisses and gazing into each other’s eyes and more, and when she finds out that none of that’s happening, she really can’t accept that. In fact, she coopts Kumin and Sanae into following the two of them around, spying on their non-date to the grocery store.

Chuu2koi Ren-Enjoying time together

Just friends, or maybe more

Unfortunately, it’s pretty much like she feared. They just act like friends, or even worse, father and daughter. Rikka being silly, Yuuta trying to keep her in check. Even her splurge for night-vision goggles follows this pattern, spending all her money for the month on something cool, but not useful for living.

Everyone Has Their Own Relationship

Chuu2koi Ren-secret confession

Confession time!

Shinka is definitely meddlesome, but she’s kind of got a point with the fact that Yuuta and Rikka haven’t really progressed at all. And it’s not like they don’t want to, more that they don’t really know how. Yuuta doesn’t know how to get through Rikka’s chuunibyou, and Rikka doesn’t know how to react to Yuuta, so she uses her imagination to deflect him and whatever feelings go along with him. It’s kind of sad, but sweet at the same time.

Chuu2koi Ren-Enjoying handholding time

Once they actually try it, they enjoy it

But with a little push from Kazari the love guru (who actually wants to date Rikka, but knows it’s a lost cause) they actually do go on a date. And this was a really sweet date as well. Yuuta remembers the warnings Kanzari and Shinka give him, about making the moves, and actually asks to hold hands, which Rikka pretty gladly accepts, even after an initial freakout. They enjoy the rest of their date, but Rikka’s troubled. She’s really happy with Yuuta, but doesn’t know what she should do. She doesn’t know what it means to be ‘koibito’, and it’s hard to figure out what it should mean. But she’s really happy to be living with him and spending time with him. And Yuuta decides that living the way they want to and going at their own pace is probably the right way to go.

Chuu2koi Ren-They switched hands

They even switch sides!

Having a nice date episode was fun, and it really did seem to indicate progress in Rikka and Yuuta’s relationship. Rikka’s admission that she really doesn’t understand what she’s feeling, but that she likes it, and that she likes being with Yuuta, is pretty important, and means that there’s definitely something there between them that’s more than just Yuuta acting like a parent. These two do have a special relationship, and it’s hopeful that Rikka can figure out what it means to be with him. But of course, we have the new girl arriving, and who knows what chaos she’ll bring to the show.

I think most of us have been waiting for that challenger to appear. They practically telegraphed it.

The only real rules of any relationship is mutual trust, dignity, respect. How any physical parts happen is up to the couple. It’s good that both of them have learned that. Yuuta is in a hard place. He’s a mentor, but doesn’t really know what he is meant to mentor.

It’s gonna get sooooo much more fun next episode.

I’m at about thirty shows myself, but am probably going to be very very much the executioner here pretty soon. I’m recalling much of 2013 and how many made it into the top five poll. Then I was generous and made my own top ten, and fifteen. I was surprised how many got left out. I’ve made a habit of at least 22+ per season. That’s alot of stuff to forget.

Well, she’s in the OP as a major opponent for Rikka. I don’t know how much she’ll actually get between Rikka and Yuuta, tho.

I definitely agree that outside forces shouldn’t really push physical intimacy, but there’s also the problem that fighting against those urges can be tiring itself, and create space where there doesn’t need to be. It would be a shame if such a great couple broke up because they were both too afraid to take any initiative. Rikka’s very fast acceptance of handholding, and how much they both enjoyed it, should embolden them both a little.

    AH…. oniichan… rikka has been naughty. Please punish her… aaahhh~~~ harder~~~

Obviously she is into S&M. No need to go into further description. There are plenty of doujins for that.

I don’t know why HWY pulled out that odd reference to Chase and Sandborn coffee. Was I they only one to get it without clicking the link?

      • akagami says:

Not a coffee drinker, so never heard of them. But that pic made me go o.O

      • Highway says:

It’s a thing among another group of friends I have. I just thought I’d share it with everyone. Plus the reference worked well. 🙂

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Oh yeah, in many countries, this would count as child abuse and she’d be taken into child protection custody and put into a foster home… eg. Sweden.

Makoto turned back into Krillin again… -_-

  4. MR.KLAC says:

well give 6 months finally hold hand yet on date for yuta & rika well ta-da indeed & now new character appear.

2eps in more to go in it.

    • BlackBriar says:

I kind of applaud them taking things slow. One step at a time. It’s always a mess when everything is rushed.

  5. akagami says:

Down to 21 new shows from the original 26, with 4 more possibly to be dropped. So probably end up at ~20 new shows, which is on par.

I’m glad to see Shinka is back to normal! It almost makes me want to pick up the second season, but I still can’t overcome my strong dislike for Rikka.

    • Highway says:

I don’t get why people thought Shinka was different. To me, her affectation was just another example of her being herself: someone who has an ideal image of what she wants to be seen as, but whose reality doesn’t really match that. So she puts on other characters like costumes, but she’s still the same person underneath. “gokigenyou” still cracks me up, tho.

  6. BlackBriar says:

How many shows am I watching? Let’s see… Between now and 8 ongoing shows, I have a total of 30 series this season and that’s currently since I’ve already dropped 2 shows. I have 2 others I might drop or just put on hold.

Shinka sure is sticking her nose in other people’s business. For her sake, I hope she does everything she’s preaching or risk being labeled a hypocrite. That wouldn’t be nice.

Kazari surprised me. Of all things in this show, I didn’t think there would be a yuri girl in it. And she says she’s into girls so shamelessly. Impressive.

    • Highway says:

There’s a saying ‘Do as I say, not as I do.’ Good advice is good advice, and it’s not necessarily an indictment of one’s advice if one cannot follow it themselves. Shinka’s not leading them down the wrong path at all, but she sure does get her kicks living vicariously through Rikka and Yuuta.

It’s the season of yuri, isn’t it. Of course, any season with Sakura Trick and ImoCho in it would be the season of yuri, I think.

And there’ll be more yuri down the road. There’s Akuma no Riddle in Spring and Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san that’s recently been green lit.

I didn’t think I’d be so into the second season of Chuunibyou but ahhhhh this episode was sooooo cuuuttteeee. I don’t even really like romance but this was too adorable to pass up on. I was worried the couple would remain frustratingly distant and oblivious, but they’re really trying hard to get to know each other. I’m really glad they didn’t give into peer pressure either, and instead found a happy medium between holding hands and being giant dorks. It looks like they’ll be just fine…even with this new challenger to stir things up.

    • Highway says:

One of these days we’ll fully convert you to a romance lover. 🙂

Every couple should be free to be giant dorks if they want. My wife and I are giant dorks a lot of the time (hell, we play WoW together).

    • BlackBriar says:

This is a surprise. You’re not one known for taking interest in romance animes.

  8. d-LaN says:

Waaayyyyy late to the party, but did anyone notice this? Surprise no one posted this yet.

Hmm…. Both WCW and this have a stalker-chan…. Coincidence?
