Haruto’s dad wins for best new psycho character of the week!

Welcome back to Metanorn for more crazy space vampire action! I hope everyone is having fun with the recent polls I have created and last week I asked which character would you switch bodies with? Looking at the results surprised with Kriemhild winning along with A-drei, H-nuen and Cain! So anyway I will try my best to create random polls that fit the overall theme of the episode.

Evil science in space!

Awesome glow in the dark tattoos Lieselotte!

L-elf-“Damn this chair is like super comfortable guys.”                  Haruto-“When can I sit in the chair?”

This week we finally meet Haruto’s dad who seems to be the obsessed scientist type who would fit in quite nicely with all those other evil scientists found in the Railgun/Index universe because he does not care about human life instead he just wants to achieve his goals! So what did he do to Haruto and the other students? Apparently he is partially responsible for creating the rune system found inside the Valvraves which basically made his son and the others immortal, but what about the giant robot itself? I guess it was never really intended to be a weapon but the military sponsored him? Wait what? I know that sounds crazy but I suppose that was the only way to sneak it into space and his dad was basically trying to play god by creating the ultimate life form aka space vampires. I think someone has been watching a lot of Jojo lately? Also does anyone else out there beside me think that the first attack on the 77th module was planned out from the start as a way to force the students into becoming Valvrave pilots? I mean how else can you push an experiment along quickly? So is Haruto’s dad winning any father of the year awards for giving his son immortality? HELL YA! BEST GIFT EVER THANKS DAD! Just kidding I know Haruto hates dealing with his curse because so many people have died along the way and not to mention how it has screwed over characters like Aina, Shoko and Marie. That said how is he going to fix it? The only answer he came up with is to destroy the Valvraves! While that sounds good and all that just brings up even more questions like what happens when you blow up a Valvrave? Does the pilot connected to that machine also die along with it or do you have to destroy the red Valvave since it is technically the main power source for the others? I am just guessing here but we just have to wait and see how things play out with that whole mess.

Besides all of the super evil space science L-elf was revealed to be Micheal aka Lieselotte’s love interest or something like that? It also appears she is trying to lead a revolt against Cain and possibly the whole Dorssian Empire along with Kriemhild and lots of other supporters? For a character I didn’t really care about at the start I guess she will be playing a bigger role in this second half of Valvrave? That and the shippers can relax because I think that L-elf is going to be the perfect partner for her, but most of us knew that already especially with that line he used this week depending on the which sub group you used because I went with [NotSoHorriblesubs] who used “allow me to abduct you.” and we all might as well say it together d’awwwwww L-elf you say the sweetest things! Well this was a great episode for me what about you?

Extra Valvrave fun

Dr Tokishima seems more crazy-mad than evil, but that’s just me.

  2. Irenesharda says:

Well, well well. We are really getting in the meat of the situation here.

The JIOR kids are informed by L-elf that Dorssia has sent an attack squad to attack the moon. They want to go back but they also want to accomplish their mission and of course they turn to L-elf for a plan. Their dependence on L-elf was even more evident here than anywhere else, however Haruto for once is showing a little backbone and development in deciding to go without him when it’s time for their paths to split. Haruto’s still boring, but at least he’s not as bad as he once was.

We learn that the kids are going to steal an old-fashioned rocket to get home while single-handedly also rescuing a bunch of JIORian scientists. They do this through working with the Royalists of which it’s revealed that Kriemhild is one. She goes through Lieselotte who is playing a dangerous game between the royalists and the Magius to try to do the right thing. I feel that it might lead to her downfall, but I really hope not as I find a really interesting character and not the Lacus clone I had feared her to be. And I’m sorry L-elfxShoko fans, but Lieselotte is the only girl in L-elf aka Michael’s heart. Michael a nice German name, and it make sense that he is named after the warrior archangel of heaven. He and Lieselotte have so much chemistry, and that scene at the end was so suave and romantic. L-elf shows that he can be quite debonair when he wants to be. The fact that he’s created Neo JIOR to be his weapons just so that he can save his lady fair, is rather awesome. And even if this eventually ends tragically, I doubt there will ever be another woman that brings his emotions to the forefront like she does. I will totally ship them from now on.

Speaking of ships, it looks like Saki is being put on the back burner again. I thought they sent Akira and Raizou out to look for her but it looks as though they’ve called them back to deal with the matter at hand. Saki is still out with A-drei and they’ve really become the buddy team. The two find the transport the JIORian team stole, but L-elf and company have already abandoned it. Next week Saki gets her body back and she and A-drei meet face to face, and we’ll have to see how this suddenly and bizarrely shippable couple will react to one another, because goodness knows Saki could do better than Haruto who didn’t even mention or think about her this episode.

As for Haruto, he meets his dad again, but finds out that his dad is basically a more pathetic version of Hojo from FF7. His father is an insane scientist that genetically modified Haruto to be the ultimate being. He says that he’s created the ultimate human, but I feel that the guy didn’t realize he was messing with Magius tech and ended up making Haruto a space vampire instead. It’s said that all the students at Sakimori were also modified before birth, however I find the idea that every single parent of every single student at that school signed up to be part of this genetic modification program before their kids were even born?! That’s a lot of time, a lot of kids, and a lot of douchebag parents. And most of those kids have been killed already in the attacks on JIOR, so they just wasted a bunch of money and science tech on a bunch of cannon fodder?

Well, the Magius seem to be rolling along, still mostly in the shadows. Cain seems to have more up his sleeve and we still don’t know the status of H-neun though the official story is that the boy was selling secrets and was put to death. The Dorssian boys are loosing members left and right and I fear that X-eins and A-drei might be next to turn traitor.

Haruto finds out the truth, rejects his father, and pledges to destroy the Valvraves. However we know they are still around in the future and instead an empire is created. So what goes wrong? We’ll have to see as this story continues.

Also, has anyone seen Shoko? That girl used to be a main character and now is almost down to doing guest appearances. I think she’s been in, at most, 15-20 minutes in this entire second season, and most of that was in flashback.

This was a good episode and I give it an 8.5. L-elf (Michael) and Lieselotte really made this episode.

    • Foshizzel says:

Slowly but surely the mysteries surrounding the Valvraves are being revealed! HOORAAAY!!

Haruto for once is showing a little backbone

Yeah about time huh? I noticed once the students arrived on earth they have been clinging to L-elf and his master plans, but I guess all of them are noobs so they NEED him in order to survive and it is obvious he is using them to accomplish his goals of saving Lieselotte.

Lieselotte is the only girl in L-elf aka Michael’s hear

      AMEN!

. His father is an insane scientist that genetically modified Haruto to be the ultimate being

Ahhhh yessss welcome to anime scientists! 90% of them turn out to be evil or “messed up” with their logic and reasons WHY they do the things they do and they really do not care who gets hurt along the way.

      has anyone seen Shoko?

It’s like playing Wheres Waldo! I have no idea what Shoko is even doing I guess she is just buying time for the others on earth but seriously shes getting less screentime than Marie and that is sad >.<

L-elf (Michael) and Lieselotte really made this episode

      YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Agreed <3

  3. Sumairii says:

And the worst dad of the year award goes to…

  4. zztop says:

How ironic that the cold, calculating strategist was driven by the most human of emotions…Love. (︶_︶)

That said, ARUS seems to be becoming even more of a footnote in the proceedings. Their people seem to have no geniune idea of what’s actually happening, plus their President’s more concerned with preserving his greying rear from the Magius’s wrath.

  5. zztop says:

The Valvrave injection could be the key in unlocking the super genes of the Sakimori students. The vampire powers lie dormant within their DNA until they are injected, which activates their immortality powers(etc) on the cellular level.
That could be why all the pilots were normal until they were injected.

But here’s the puzzle: Dr Tokishima says the students are 2nd generation superhumans, but Cain and the Magius call the students 3rd generation (Magius). There’s a discrepancy in the numbers. Which makes you wonder how Dr Tokishima even got his hands on Pino and Prue in the 1st place.

    • Foshizzel says:

This episode kind of made me think of Attack on Titan! Erens dad experimenting on him much like Haruto’s dad, but that might be some spoilers! Anyway yeah it seems crazy…

Great question! I have no idea~

      • Irenesharda says:

Well, at least Dr. Jaeger was trying to protect his son. Haruto’s dad seemed to be warped from the get go.

        • BlackBriar says:

I think he simply saw Haruto as another one of his experiments rather than his own flesh and blood. The guy had a copy of his gene map in a frame instead of a photo. That’s creepy and sickening.

        • Foshizzel says:

@Irenesharda: True but both characters experimented on their own children…

          @BB: Yep p much.

          • Irenesharda says:

Well, experimentation indicates that you don’t know what the end result will be. Jaeger knew exactly what the serum he gave Eren would do. He gave it to his son to protect him and to give him a fighting chance against what was in the world. Especially since he could no longer be by his son’s side (for some reason).

Tokishima just wanted to play God.

  6. d-LaN says:

Oh crap, I only picked one option for the voting…. Oh well, L-11 x Lise for me. Also, I’m glad tht the Shoko x L-11 ship is sunken ^_____^ Shoko x Haruto 4eva at this moment anyway

Haruto dad still can’t beat F/Z Tokiomi for BEST DAD IN ANIME 😛 *kicks Tokiomi* But seriously, I find him keeping Haruto DNA map as a “picture” to be LOL. I was being lead me to believe the reunion will be a standard touchy one until tht pic shows up.

So I assume Saki manage to get her body back frm the preview? YAY except tht Audrey is there and it looks like she will be captured.

Wht the deal with Lise and those glowing thing on her body? Is her runes being harvested cuz of L-11 failed attempt to get her out? I’m glad she isn’t a body jacked Magius but VVV love it PLOT TWIST so…. >_>

    PS RIP H-9 ;_;

    • Foshizzel says:

Ahahah well you can hang on to Haruto x Shoko if you want but sadly I just can not see those two getting together with only a handful of episodes left! That and Shoko has been practically MIA this entire 2nd half…

      Anime dads the best!

YEPPERS! I mean sure Saki can not die and all but she is still in serious danger.

Yeah I have no idea about those glow in the dark marks all over Lisa! I hope we learn the truth soon >.< RIP INDEED T______T

      • d-LaN says:

That plot-zone hits Shoko hard T_T Though I too feel tht we might have another season so I still hope tht the ship isn’t sunk hard.

There also the speculation of Saki turning to Cain/Dorsia side for help frm the preview for S2.

  7. Highway says:

This show’s definitely losing me. I find this storyline boring and uninteresting, the Magius uncompelling (ooooh, they’re all mysteeeerious, you should wonder about them!), and the idea of consuming information is outright risible (it’s counter to the entire concept of memetic information). And the thing that made the first season interesting, the balls-to-the-wall, we’re going to throw in everything and the kitchen sink and blend it all together attitude, has gone away completely in service of this terrible puppet master ripoff storyline. Not to mention that the visual flair of the first season has now been replaced by the boring grayness of Dorssia.

I probably won’t drop a show with 6 episodes left just because it’s dumb and boring (heck, I watched all of Kitakubu Katsudou), but it’s not very enjoyable.

    • Irenesharda says:

Hmm, most I’ve been hearing who were only just okay with the 1st season have really pick up on this season saying the plot is more fast-paced and solid without a tone of plot twists. But, difference of opinion…:)

      I love this show. 😛

      • Highway says:

Well, I can see that if you didn’t like the things in the first season, you’d probably like the stuff in this season. But to me, this shadow government puppet master stuff is just so tired and dull. They haven’t given us anything to actually have a hook, as far as I’m concerned. It’s not that the Magius are trying to take over the world. As far as I can tell they *already* own the world. So there’s no tension there.

But the stuff that made the first season tolerable, that it was apologetically in your face about being inane, is entirely gone.

        • HannoX says:

I don’t find it as boring as you do, but I agree with much of what you said. What I’ve found most interesting in this season is the hints of the future to come. Who is that kid, the crown prince of the future empire? And just what is Saki’s relationship to him? His history teacher as well as being a kick ass military pilot? Maybe his great grandmother and the empress? (Can space vampires even have children?) She certainly seems to be somebody important in the future. And where is Haruto? His plan to destroy the Valvraves doesn’t seem to have worked.

I’m wondering now if the anime team is keeping things open for a 3rd and maybe even a 4th season. By the time this season ends the Dorssians are dealt with. Then another season could be spent dealing with the Magius and laying the foundation for the future empire Saki and I’d have to assume the other surviving Valvrave pilots serve. Of course, the Dorssians and the Magius could both be dealt with and the foundations for the empire laid by the end of this season with a part of the last episode (during or after the credits?) devoted to telling us something about the empire of the future. But that seems like a lot to cram into only 6 more episodes without rushing things.

          • Foshizzel says:

That is IF that even happens I still feel Sunrise only created those future scenes as a way to throw us off much like Golden Time and their opening! It is only “hinting” at a possible outcome that is not 100% set in stone.

          • MgMaster says:

I think another 1-cour season would be just right.Things are starting to come together but there’s just too much to conclude in just 6 episodes.

For starters, learning more about Lieselotte and L-Elf’s past seems to be required. She needs at least one episode dedicated to her before she does something like befriend Shouko and therefore triggering that almost guaranteed death flag.We can learn more about Dorssia but also Magius in the meantime.

Then there’s also the long forgotten Shouko(who currently represents JIOR) & ARUS.The political issues there seemed to have been completely brushed aside for now.

And of course, let’s not forget about Saki & Haruto(and well,Shouko too I guess).

There are just so many storylines here that I wouldn’t be surprised if Valvrare would return to it’s old crazy-self when the show’s end is near.

            • zztop says:

I’ve heard Valvrave’s reception is just so-so in Japan. Not super popular, but not reviled either. So people say it may not get any more seasons.

            • BlackBriar says:

There’s no way of fully knowing that. Phi Brain: Kami no Puzzle wasn’t very popular in Japan and here it is currently on its third season. Each season with a total of 25 episodes.

            • belatkuro says:

Phi Brain is airing on NHK, which means it’s government tax funded. And the afternoon timeslot it’s in relies more on ratings rather than BD sales and I heard Phi Brain is doing well there.
Valvrave is a late night show which relies more on BD sales. Really different things even if they’re both done by Sunrise.

            • zztop says:

@BlackBriar:I suppose you’re right. Gargantia and Gatchaman Crowds were only decently popular, yet they are both getting a Season 2.
Have you seen the latest Gargantia OVA featuring Kugel’s arrival to Earth? Ledo definitely lucked out with Gargantia finding him on that one I think.

      • BlackBriar says:

I agree somewhat. The first season was random, campy, all over the place but enjoyable. The second half has a more solid and stronger story pacing and drama you can’t actually roll your eyes at, especially the parts about being powerless and what you can do if you have power. Overall, in my opinion, the second half is better.

Yeah, I love this show as well.

        • Highway says:

Well, obviously, I disagree that the story is ‘stronger’. More oppressive for sure, but I think that it’s smothering the show.

        • zztop says:

  8. BlackBriar says:

A hopefully joyful reunion turns horrendously bitter. To think this sick bastard is Haruto’s father. It makes me question genetics and he has absolutely no regard for the lives of those he tampers with as long as it means getting what he wants. The side effects outweigh the “benefits” and I’m glad Haruto lost it and knocked him for a loop. Are we sure his last name isn’t “Kihara” instead of “Tokishima”? If what he says is true and it is, it means the parents of every student in Module 77 somehow gave their consent to the VVV project and possibly Shouko’s father as well.

Lieselotte painfully emerging from that machine with rune marks on her body and Cain talking about her betrayal pretty much confirm my suspicions of her also being a Magius. Her reunion with L-Elf/Mikhail (Depends on what subs you’re watching) was long awaited and heartwarming, especially after the three year flashback. In other words, since they’re back together, that means that kid Saki called a prince in one of the time skips is their son.

Also does anyone else out there beside me think that the first attack on the 77th module was planned out from the start as a way to force the students into becoming Valvrave pilots?

Cain wanted in Module 77 to get information so he could mass produce his own Valvrave army. So that is a possibility. And when the first attack started, one of the scientists suggested bringing out the red Valvrave but the others wanted no part because they didn’t want the responsibility of reporting to their superiors.

As for the poll, it’s an obligatory L-Elf x Lieselotte and Haruto x suffering choice. People should know at this point that Haruto and suffering are inseparable.

    • HannoX says:

One of my choices was A-drei x Saki, but only if she sinks her teeth into him.

      • BlackBriar says:

That can work for me if it becomes the case.

      • Irenesharda says:

I’m totally for A-drei and Saki being together since it really seems as though Haruto is a hopeless case. And why hope to be second-best in that schmuck’s mind when you can be number #1 in the heart of a prince?

  9. HannoX says:

    Damn you, Spammy!

On another note–damn I’m slow on the uptake! The Dorssia clearly are inspired by Gordon R. Dickson’s Dorsai. But I suppose my slowness is partly due to the fact that it’s been decades since I’ve read any Dorsai stories and not much then.

    • Highway says:

Hmm, I didn’t find a post in the spam filter. Did someone else get it, or perhaps it was actually lost somewhere.

(also, just to mention again, if you use an avatar, it’s a lot easier to find any posts in the spam filter. Bots don’t use avatars)

    • BlackBriar says:

Like Highway said, it would be easier to identify you if you have a Gravatar. Here’s a link to the site for you to get started.

      • HannoX says:

I’ve tried 3 times to select an image from my hard drive. It does not appear on the page where I can crop and select it. I read through the help section on choosing a gravatar and it didn’t help.

        • BlackBriar says:

Hmm… For me, after I cropped the image I took, I continued selecting that image on the “Manage Gravatars” page a couple of times (say about 5 or 6 times) then I refreshed that page. After that, the selected image appeared on the top right, next to the e-mail address. You’ll probably get the same result if you do the same thing.

        • Highway says:

Something you could try is uploading it to imgur or another sharing site, and then just get it from that URL.
