Meganebu! – 04

As always, Meganebu! is just full of plot twists and deep revelations.

This Halloween, I bring the terrifying gift of… glasses, I guess. Or maybe the scary thing is the fact that this show is so dedicated to not showing the face of any character that’s not wearing glasses (Hayato doesn’t count, obviously).

Any and all seriousness that came from the last episode was completely thrown out the window with this one. Instead of silly glasses related fights and ghosts, we got Mitsuki forever wondering if senpai will notice him, and Akira acting like even more of an idiot than he has been in the previous episodes. At least there wasn’t anything too stupid, unlike the clock thing in the last episode.

Damn, that dog is adorable. …Which is more than I can say for Mitsuki’s character himself. I get that they’re going for the full on BL vibes between his and Akira’s characters, but honestly, Mitsuki can be as annoying as Hayato at times. His appreciation for Akira is understandable though. Hovercrafts (or whatever the hell that was) can do that to people. Maybe the hovercraft can even explain how Mitsuki went from admiration to obsession (which seems like a rather large jump, but whatever). …Actually, now that I look at it, this backstory doesn’t really explain anything. At all. Maybe this showed the first meeting between Mitsuki and Akira, but hell if I got what the characters were feeling during all of this. At least with Hayato and Yukiya, the characters and their later actions were more understandable.

 …But then again, what the hell am I doing expecting anything logical from this show?

At least Akira is an entertaining idiot. Breaking the rules he created as he writes them. This is obviously the greatest humour in the history of anime. And then having Mitsuki run around attempting to correct this without Akira knowing it. Classic.

We finally got a better look at Takuma’s character, but… hell if I can place him any better than I could before. In the end, I guess he’s just the airhead character. It would be interesting to see how he joined the club in the first place, but I imagine a lot of that has to do with his older brothers. OF COURSE they’re famous in the fashion world… of glasses. I have to say though, the sibling relationships in this show are nothing short of adorable. Hikaru and Akira were rather cute in the one episode, but there’s also something cute in the way that Satoru and Shinji dote over Takuma. A suitcase full of glasses is going a little overboard, but you can tell that Takuma appreciates them just as much since he was so concerned  about breaking the glasses. …Or maybe that was just concern over the glasses themselves, which wouldn’t surprise me, coming from this show.

I know I said that I wasn’t prepared to learn anything from this aside from the fact that there are some people out there who’s glasses fetish eclipses my own (even if they’re fictional), but there’s some interesting trivia in this. Like, after the ED, they actually tell you the names of specific parts of glasses. Or the fact that each type of glasses frames actually have names. Amazing. Well, 4 episodes in and this show’s dedication to glasses is still hilarious in a really sad way. Akira noticing Yukiya’s nose pads had me laughing rather hard for some reason. Really, that’s all I need from anime.
