This season of OreImo’s been up and down, but the last few episodes have definitely been on an uptrend for me, and last episode ended off with a big move, with Kuroneko asking Kyousuke to go out with her! So what will happen this week? Let’s find out!
The thought of being rejected brings her to tears. Kyousuke, you awful boy!
Yes, Kuroneko finally outright asks Kyousuke to go out with her, but like a doof he just kinda stammered without knowing how to answer. She’s definitely uncomfortable as well, slipping into the cover of her talking about ‘curses’ and countercurses. And her being on the verge of tears when he dithers and doesn’t answer her shows to me that this isn’t any sort of game for her, even if she does end up bargaining with him about lunches and cosplaying. But eventually, it gets through Kyousuke’s head that this isn’t a joke, and while I thought that maybe she went a little far with describing how much she loves him, we are talking about teenagers here.
Everyone gets involved
The idea of Kuroneko and Kyousuke being together is apparently not a new one, and who knows how much Kuroneko has let on to Kirino, since Kirino’s uses her “one thing that Kyousuke will do for her” to make sure he considers a cherished girl’s confession seriously, because she really does love him. Of course, the way this show is, it’s possible that that girl she’s talking about is Kirino herself. But given the way she reacted to him just before, thinking his feelings for her are gross, it’s still more likely she’s talking about Kuroneko. Manami gets in on the action as well, letting him know that there are already rumors about them at school. But given the amount of feelings for Kyousuke that are going around from all these girls, I think it’s really nice that their advice to him is still basically to be himself and sincere.
What, you weren’t already dating?
I really liked the depiction of both of them after they made it official. Those excited feelings that make you wonder what you should do, but can’t really contain them. The trepidation about how to interact with the person. You think you should do things differently, but how differently? And what if they don’t like it? What are they expecting? You don’t want to screw it up by acting too pushy, but you don’t want to seem disinterested, and you want to see the person. This was just a really authentic feel.

But for everyone else, it’s a surprise that they aren’t already dating (well, except for Kouki, who thought that Kyousuke was asking him when it’s ok to grope his sister’s chest). I think this points to one of those situations where the people involved are just the last ones to figure it out. And while Kyousuke thought he was thinking about it the most, he learns quickly that Ruri has been way ahead of him, filling out a notebook with all the things she wants to do with him. No… all the things that she will do with him to realize her desire. I think every guy would love for his girlfriend to come up with a list of things they want to do. It’s certainly a lot easier than planning dates, and sounds less pathetic than asking “Soooo, what do you want to do?” each time.
Kuroneko moves fast, from beach date to wedding night.
This was another episode I really liked. Of course, it’s easy to like an episode that’s so focused on Kuroneko, but the way it dealt with her emotions, and the realistic reactions of both of them to a first love situation was a lot of fun to watch. There was a little bit of siscon confusion going on, about normal for the show, but I still think the fact that he is so excited and interested in going out with Kuroneko is just more evidence that he’s not interested in Kirino like that, even if he says he would cry if she found a real boyfriend. So will next week focus more on their dates, or even beyond that? How far do you think they’ll go?

It was interesting to see Manami offer to give Kyousuke advice to help his relationship with Kuroneko. Either she really is interested in him just as a good friend from childhood (although one she wouldn’t mind marrying) or she’s a saint or she thinks it won’t work out in the end and then he’ll turn to her as he so often has and finally realize that she’s the one for him. Whatever it is, she’s a 10+ on the niceness scale.
I never did think Kyousuke was a siscon. Granted, he does go overboard as the protective big brother and may have some feelings in that direction, but I never thought he was hot for his sister. I always figured his choice would come down to Ruri or Manami, though I wish Saori would have been in the running.

I think it’s mostly that Manami’s a saint. She’s not even of the “I just want my beloved to be happy” self-sacrificing type of person who self-deludes out of necessity. She likes Kyousuke, and likes Kuroneko, and if they end up together, then that happens. But to her the most important thing is that Kyousuke be sincere and thoughtful.
As I’ve said before, I think Saori’s similar to Manami in that she’d rather have two of her friends be happy together rather than take Kyousuke for herself.

Well, my thought is, surely there is someone out there that is better for her, but if this dink makes her happy, who am I to judge?
This was a very well played episode. They could have gotten away with some cheap comedy, and downplayed a lot of the romance, but instead they took it all quite naturally. Nothing needed to be forced, and is quite funny and endearing just on it’s own formula.
That ED was soooooo cute.

I just watched another fansub groups release tonite. That ED, sand by the wonderful Yui Ogura. It hit me a verse or two in, “Oh, it’s Yunoha, from EVOL’s ED2” and then “Oh, it’s Tsukiko from Henneko”, and “yeah, that’s Kuroneko’s youngest sister”.
So bubbly….

In the end, what matters most is what she sees in him and why. They don’t seem so bad paired together and he does look like someone who you can place your trust in.

That naturalness is what the show does best, imo. And she’s certainly had enough experience with him to realize what she likes and doesn’t like about him. The only thing that felt forced for comedy to me was Kyousuke and Kirino’s exchange about his cell phone.

Yeah, it seemed like he was trying for a dig, just to get a reaction from her. But it felt off played. Or maybe it’s foreshadowing…

And it’s really nice to have the story advancing, rather than the distractions with side issues like the Ayase episode. That could have been handled without devoting an entire episode to it.
Also, I loved the part with Ruri’s little sisters. I’d like to see more of her homelife.

Plus, I like Ayase as a character.
I thought the bigger problem was Ria’s episode. It just multiplied the sins of Ayase’s episode, with a character that noone cares about and isn’t coming back. I didn’t see where it advanced Kirino’s or Kyousuke’s character at all, and what it reinforced didn’t need to be reinforced, just coming across as redundant.

While it was well intentioned, Kuroneko shouldn’t have to resort to such shallow gestures to win Kyousuke as boyfriend. He may be a doofus at times (he kneels down whenever he’s told) but he’s not the type of guy to be in something for instant gratifications.
The confession and how she describes her love was a bit exaggerated and with her all her talk about curses and her dialogue with her sister, I was surprised she has eighth grade syndrome for someone who acts so mature.
I loved the club shock with everyone’s assumptions about Kuroneko and Kyousuke being partially wrong. That’s what happens when you see something and fail to ask a question. Kouki only made things funnier assuming he was dating Kirino.

I was kind of wondering about Ruri’s bargaining with lunches and clothes and cosplaying. I wonder if the point was more to prove to him that she was sincere about being his girlfriend, and that it wasn’t fake dates like he had with Kirino. That’s about all I can think of, especially because after that he said her feelings had come through.
You were surprised she is chuunibyou?!?! Every chance she gets she is a character who has powers of darkness and various and sundry curses. That’s what she’s going to go to when she gets stressed. And I thought that her talk about how much she loved Kyousuke was overwrought and exaggerated… and exactly in character for her.
I always love when the couple everyone thought was a couple makes it ‘official’. It’s not that it actually matters that much. It’s not like either one of them was known to be with someone else, and hence seen to be ‘cheating’. More just an assumption that “Hey, they are together all the time, they must be a couple.” I think it says more about how Kyousuke and Manami’s relationship comes across that everyone thought that Ruri and Kyousuke were dating.

Agreed, it was entirely in character for Kuroneko to be so extravagant when telling Kyousuke how much she loved him. Ruri may be more down-to-Earth, but Kuroneko is extravagant and he knows her best as Kuroneko.
