Sorry for the delay on this post! I have been a bit lazy as of late, but the end of Kotoura-san is right around the corner and that has me feeling sad; however I will leave my final thoughts with the next episode, I hope you enjoy the video this week. |

Was a good episode, though the cop being the attacker was really too obvious, and I felt they went too soft and unbelievable on the resolution at the end, but it’s a school romcom so, whatever. I did like the split personality bit that they put in there to show why Kotoura didn’t catch on.
The scene where Moritani was crying was sad, especially accompanied by that insert song. Still think the president is stupid for almost getting herself and the other kids in mortal danger just to get pointless vengeance. No matter what she does, its not going to really help her mother or the woman’s shattered reputation. The woman chose her path, now its time for her daughter to live her life.
I have to say, the weak link in this episode was actually Kotoura. Her depression/guilt bit is beginning to get old and annoying. It was okay in the beginning and you were feeling sympathy for her, but she has grown so much over the series, and suddenly she does a complete 180 and goes back to the way she was in the beginning? At this point I just want to shake and yell at her, asking her why she’s being so stupid.

Yeah the cop as the criminal failed to blow me away because I figured it out long ago, but I am glad they did not drag this mystery out for another episode.
Moritani has come a long way from evil girl at the start of the series and I do feel bad for her.
True Kotoura was moping around a lot during this episode or you could say the entire arc? I felt that way! I wish she wouldn’t take everything out on herself T____T

The best thing about this episode of Kotoura-san was that it wasn’t the finale, because that gives them a chance to have a better finale.
This show loses its magic when it has to go from A to B by the end of the show. The best episodes have been when we don’t know where the ending will be and it can lead us on, fake us out, and take us somewhere surprising. But for this one, we knew they had to figure out Tsukino was the attacker, we knew that there had to be a confrontation between Kotoura and Tuskino, we knew that Manabe had to figure in the resolution to that confrontation, etc. etc. So it got really predictable, and not very exciting. Add into that the eyerolling of the audience from the silly cliches like Haruka dropping her phone (never happens, really), running up the stairs to get away (at least they made fun of this in the show), and the appeal to the ‘good side’ of Tuskino, and this adds up to just not being a particularly good effort.
The best part was also the most unexpected part: Moritani’s confession to Manabe. I liked that he turned her down, and said he loved Haruka. Now he just needs to actually confess to her!

Agreed, the best part was Moritani’s confession to Manabe even though she had to know what the answer was going to be. It took a lot of courage for her to do that. The heartbreak she suffered was more genuine than the part about Tsukino being the attacker because she’s bi-polar.

No matter how cliché it is, no matter how may dislike it, it’s always going to be like that as long as the script dictates the events. I really had to scoff at the things you mentioned but at least it wasn’t as clichéd as it was in Sword Art Online when Asuna dropped that access card from her being in that cage and it fell right in front of Kirito’s face.

One of the weaker episodes. They’d sent enough signals that Tsukino was the attacker that the “big reveal” fell flat. However, I’ll admit that I was one of those hoping she wasn’t the attacker, partly because that seemed too obvious and partly because I liked her. While the bi-polar personality explained why Kotoura wasn’t able to read that she was the attacker, it seems like the anime took the easy way out again (along with her being the attacker). “Oh, okay, she’s attacking high school girls because the evil her resents their having friends when she didn’t have any.” There are a lot of people who did not have a good high school experience, but that didn’t turn all of them violent and out for revenge.
As Highway says, at least there’s a chance for a better finale than this would have been.

It’s probably more correct to say she had something like Dissociative Identity Disorder (multiple personalities), although maybe not that severe, over bi-polar. But it certainly wasn’t any big reveal. The viewer spent most of the time wondering when they’d get it over with and have Tsukino make her move.

One of the stronger episodes of the series. As I thought, the criminal is that female detective, Tsukino. Ironic how her job is investigate crimes when she’s the one actually causing them and she has skills defending herself against someone as adept in martial arts like Moritani. The deal with her is that she has multiple personalities born from her traumatic past. The encounter at start, she was presented with a deeper, echoing voice then her eyes got darker and Kotoura couldn’t pick up on her thoughts in the park or in her apartment before she was attacked. I’d put her on par with what happened to Gaara from Naruto when he was a kid.
Muroto being hospitalized should be a good enough lesson for Yuriko to learn not to deliberately jump into dangerous situations. I understand she wanted to use the opportunity to clear her mother’s name. It’s noble indeed but she let it get the best of her, poison her better judgment. The result? Someone ended up paying for her arrogance.
Moritani’s wearing her demon mask. It’s to see it again along with Manabe’s scared senseless expression. Poor Moritani and her confession. She’s falls into the same category of unrequited love as Sakurasou’s Nanami, even putting on the same fake smile to hide the disappointment of being rejected and I really feel sorry for girls like that.

It was a decent episode even though it was easy to figure out that the female detective was the criminal, but at least they didn’t drag it out for another episode right? That would have made me mad, true she does have a similar story like Gaara.
Yuriko and Daichi ftw! Seriously that should open her eyes to realize maybe revenge is not worth it if her friends always get hurt in the process and to be honest she just needs to forgive the past just like Kotoura’s feelings about her own mother.
Sad but true Nanami and Moritani share a lot in terms of love T____T

They really know how to torture a character and lonliness seems to be their greatest instrument. The dramatic parts make it even more depressing for them. When I look back at the series from the beginning, I can easily make these comparisons: Kotoura = Naruto; Tsukino = Gaara.
Hopefully now Yuriko will be more conscious of her surroundings and use her judgment to not go to a place that’s obviously set up as a trap. She’s lucky Daichi was there to wake her up. Humans have an affinity for disobedience. If you tell someone not to go somewhere, in the end, they’ll do the exact opposite.
I hope these two broken hearts find happiness somewhere. They more than deserve it. Kudos to Moritani because she became more of a big sister type to Kotoura than a spiteful, jealous rival fighting her for Manabe’s affection.

Now that is a show I would pay to see! The alternative is that Shiroyasha eventually does this to all skirts; only Moritani’s is not exactly the same model as Kurousagi’s…needs a touch more service.
Wow, this arc was made of derp. For showing such promise in the main story so far, this was delivered with all the care and patience of pack of orangutans putting a piece of IKEA together. But I suppose all good shows do this. If anything it progressed the Moritani/Manabe relationship where it needed to be, and once again made us think about what Yuriko needs to do to get her priorities straight….that Daichi is the Dude.

I wish it wasn’t so obvious that the detective was the culprit but meh, it was good overall. I liked how Kotoura used a speech to snap detective-lady out of her crazy personality.
Although…how in the world did Manabe get there so fast!? His true power has been revealed. Teleportation!
