About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! This episode was so cute ! ^_^ The power of friendship did bring Haruka back in the end. I was actually a bit surprised with Hiyori pulling up in the end to say she was sorry to Haruka. Of course at the same time I was really…meh about it. Maybe because I know that they will become friends after this, it reminds me of Say I Love You with that one girl(what was her name…) becoming friends with the main character after hating her guts before. I’m hoping it isn’t a fast transition but a slow one with Hiyori slowly getting more open with Haruka and becoming friends and not buddy-buddy right away.

I think the case of Aiko and Mei in Sukitte is somewhat similar, and has a lot of the same justifications why it works. Looking back on Sukitte, why do people think Aiko “hated” Mei? Because she was with the boy that Aiko wanted to be with. But that’s not Mei’s fault. And when Aiko realizes that Mei is an actual person, not just an avatar or a position (Yamato’s Girlfriend), and a person who is willing to defend Aiko as a person, it’s difficult for her to continue to hold animosity toward Mei.

And do things happen fast in anime? Sometimes. Other times, we get people holding stupid-ass grudges forever based on some perceived slight, and we complain about that. But I think we as viewers need to remember that other people do other things. Think about the people you know, and you’ll realize that other real people you know forgive others too quickly in your opinion, and other real people you know hold grudges far too long, again in your opinion. In people like Mei and Haruka, we see those who are willing to forgive people because it is their character. It’s not ‘unrealistic’, it’s just not what we ourselves would likely do. But I find it hard to argue that displaying that kind of character makes them ‘worse’ people than we are.

@Liza: Awee yeah the power of friendship and it really shows that Haruka has a huge heart even for people that have done her wrong in the past, but we will see how long that “friendship” will actually last for Haruka and Hiyori! Yeah you are correct it does feel a lot like say I love you in terms of x girl hates x girl cause she is with the guy SHE wants! Indeed.

@Highway: True I guess it is just in Haruka’s nature to be nice to people and who knows maybe Manabe influenced her that not every person is evil or mean? I could see that judging how he treats everyone. I was taught to forgive and forget when I was active at my church so in a few ways I do agree that Haruka should forgive Hiyori, but part of me just can’t believe that is the end of their drama together.

I seem to be in a pretty small minority, in that I think it’s at least justifiable that Haruka would be willing to forgive Moritani for her bullying and setting goons on Manabe. A couple of the reasons I think this are that 1) Moritani is not that different from Haruka. The reason there was conflict between them is because they both like the same boy – the only boy who’s been understanding of their situations and thought they were interesting and cool, not stupid or monstrous. And Moritani had obviously been pursuing Manabe before Haruka showed up, and here this new girl comes in and basically steals the guy she likes. I think that her jealousy is understandable, but I also think there wasn’t much time there, so it’s not like she’s got a longstanding hate for Haruka, so it’s easier to change her opinion when Haruka basically proves every idea that she’s had wrong.

As for why Haruka would forgive her, she did see Moritani’s regret and feels it’s a sincere apology. And Haruka is a girl who is fairly desperate for friendship, and so scared of hurting other people that when someone comes back and says “The reason I was hurt was my fault, not your fault”, then she’s likely going to be willing to forgive.

You are not in a minority. I agree with you pretty much on all scores. Of interest is her need for friendship. She has quite a bit to prove of herself, and being a person that can forgive, well, that does pave out a smooth road ahead of you as well as behind.

If nothing else she can learn from the ESP gang and catch friends with nets.

    • Foshizzel says:

@Highway: I think I am half and half towards Haruka forgiving Hiyori while my other half is like HELL NO! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?! Because honestly I could not be friends with anyone that wanted to physically hurt someone as a way to get back at them? Seriously? Then again, like you said before Highway it is in Haruka’s character to be the nice girl.

I mean if she was like I will never forgive ever! It would only make Haruka appear as the “bad guy” and I think the overall message of Kotoura-san will be like learning to accepted people even if they are different or a bit strange.

@Skylion: Right Haruka needs friends and I suspect that Hiyori and Haruka will become best friends or rivals in love seeking Manabe’s heart? I was chatting to Jrow after we recorded Robotic;Notes this week that we both want them to be “fun” rivals, but keep everything nice and fluffy between them? Our example was kind of like how Ami and Taiga from Toradora acted towards MC-Kun.

Maybe this is just my opinion but it seems to be a curse among Japanese male characters that when they get old, they turn into shameless perverts, especially around their female relatives. I thought this one would be the exception. There’s Kotoura-san, Senran Kagura and Vividred Operation that all show this trait.

The younger perverts like Manabe are a lot better. They show some kind of restraint and find a nice, relatable excuse behind. The way he explained himself to Haruka’s grandfather strangely had a sense of honor. He’s being perverted but at the same time not being perverted because he isn’t being physical with her, only fantasizing about her which acceptable. Look, fantasize but don’t touch!

Hiyori has earned a bit of forgiveness, a bit, because she had the nerve to apologize to Haruka and Manabe for her bitchiness even though the ulterior motive is to get her back on his good side. To her defense, she isn’t the totally stuck up, self-absorbed, bitchy character you’d normally see with other girls born into privilege. She realizes her faults and worries about the damage she’s done. Haruka should have let her suffer in her despair a little longer but she isn’t the kind of girl to let that happen. The ones who deserve a real chastisement are the two girls who follow her. They more fit the “Mean Girl” type. Haruka disappeared but they showed no consideration and treated her as an obstacle as if the guy she was with is a trophy that needs to be won.

    • skylion says:

Wait! What?! I will have you know that the perversion of your elder gentlemen age with a robust vigor unknown to the the generations that trail behind us.

LOL. That being said, one lecherous grandpa is quite enough in one season, now we have Three Perverted Granddaddies. Maybe they can get their own OVA? Oppai Shinobi, Oshiri Operation, and the Little ESP Society that Might.

    • Foshizzel says:

@BB: Ahahahah yes old men are pervs we can even look all the way back to Dragon Ball? Master Roshi was such a perv around the young Bulma and other female characters! He doesn’t even stop in DBZ…

      Manabe for the win <3

I suppose Hiyori has earned the right to be forgiven, but like I have said to the others I am 50/50 on that because I have a feeling the drama will come back eventually when it comes to who deserves to be with Manabe in the end! While I don't agree 100% with Haruka's choice I can't blame her for being a nice girl <3

    • Restia says:

Guess you can’t have cute little girls running around unless there are perverted old men to keep them in check ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

      • BlackBriar says:

The dirty old men serve as their limiter. The problem is, they work far too well.

  4. KLACMAN says:

well at least everything back to normal give have to net a kotoura to come back but it take a MAN-abe to finally have kotoura come home!!!

yea who knew kotoura’s grandpa is same as MAN-abe.
