Winter Anime Catalogue 2013

Welcome to METANORN’s Winter Anime Catalogue of 2013!

WINTERRRRRRR, you are killing me with your coldness already! After many years, I’m finally experiencing a worthy cold weather, which has pushed me to wear at least two layers of clothes. It’s akin to a lull after the exciting fall (oh that line-up!), which would be good. Winter is not known as a strong season (just count the number of 2 to 5 minute anime short releasing this time around). So, I’ll put my snide remarks aside but at least there’s Chihayafuru and Nekomonogatari to look forward to, while Jojo and Shinsekai continue.
It really doesn’t feel like winter until there’s at least a foot of snow outside your house and a new season of anime is there to ring in the festivities. Unfortunately, the winter shows don’t look very impressive at all so it’s become an exercise in choosing which one will suck the least instead of the best one. Oh well. I was treated kindly for Christmas so I shouldn’t be too greedy.
Goodbye fall, you were certainly lovely, winter’s coming in! …Only not really, because it’s always summer here in Singapore :c It’s so sad because I actually love cold weather. It’s even sadder that the winter signals the start of junior college, and the prospect of becoming even busier is daunting. Luckily I’ll always have anime to give me a weekly dose of fun and relaxation. Winter seems interesting at this point, I’m looking forward to Amnesia! I always have really high expectations for adaptations of otome games for whatever reason, even despite past *cougharcanacough* experiences because of all the romance and eye candy. Aaanyway, if things go wrong, I’ll still have beloved Shinsekai Yori to keep me entertained, so all’s well :3
Amazingly, I have even more spare time this season than the last, but on the other hand, I’m not really looking forward to much upcoming this season. Of course, there are exceptions (of course I’m looking forward to Chihayafuru and Amnesia) but really, Zetsuen no Tempest is where it’s at for me at the moment. We’ll see how the season goes and if I don’t have much to do, maybe I’ll FINALLY finish some of the otome game reviews I have half written. …Maybe.
Like last season I’m going to be taking it easy as far as the number of shows I’m watching, but the few I do intend to watch I’m greatly looking forward to. Three idol themed shows? What could be better! There’s also Chihayafuru which I’m hyped up for and Yama no Susume that piqued my interest. Anyway, I’ll be back to blogging regularly again so see you around!
I’m not too excited for winter because I ended up doing more things than the ones I planned to. I kind of stop getting excited for winter season anime because the list looks weak to me. Maybe I won’t watch lots of the new anime and continue with my Code Geass and Victory Gundam instead… (I know I’ll still end up watching lots of things). But like lvlln said, the continuation of the previous season’s 2 cour anime might entertain us this winter.
See ya later fall time to make room for winter to roll on through bringing us some cold weather, but it also brings out lots of new anime! I am looking forward to most of the comedies and a few more things this season even though it looks rather weak…
We go through this every 3 months, so I’ll make it short. I’m one of those who prefers not even to try to predict what will be good before a season begins. Certain studios or franchises will tend to pique my interest, but my method is just to check out 1st episodes of almost everything that has people talking, and pare my list from there. That said, winter 2012 is guaranteed to be awesome if only for the continuation of current season’s shows such as Shinsekai Yori, Pycho-Pass, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and (unexpectedly) Girls und Panzer. It will also feature the new series Vividred Operation, which could be in the same vein, given that it has the same director as Strike Witches.

As they say, better late than never. With the holidays season and most of us neck-deep in RL and studies, the compilation took its sweet time. However, we are done and this time we have made it compact yet comprehensive enough for you to read in one go rather than spend an hour scrolling up and down. Though, you might still just read on with

>> A scream of DIIIIIIIIIIIIOOOOO like a Jojo-tard~ :3

Nice job everybody! Love the updated presentation style.

As for me this season, I’m definitely going to watch Chihayafuru 2 (yay for the return of Kara no Kyokai), Haganai NEXT and these episodes of Nekomonogatari. Everything else looks doubtful on a personal level, even Tamako Market since that looks like the moeblob stuff I don’t care for.

    • Karakuri says:

Agreed about the design. Ness did an awesome job~

      • d-LaN says:

Sry for drifting off topic, but is tht a Touko Fukawa avvie? Its another Danganronpa fan! 😀

    • Tofu says:

I’m sure Tamako Market will be just as character centered as K-On was since it IS the K-On staff we’re talking about. But still…. TAMAKO~ TAMAKO~ TAMAKO~ TAMAKO~!!! <3 <3 <3

      • Yvoon says:

I saw that and I went into fangirl mode~ Its really like K-ON all over again~ Tamako~ Tamako~ *DOKIDOKI*

but srsly man…..what have you done to me…OTL

    • BlackBriar says:

Couldn’t agree more on the presentation style. It’s beautiful and makes the site look great. Ness has outdone herself.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yepppp! Nice job on the list everyone and of course amazing graphics by Ness~

@Jrow: I agree! There really is not a lot to look forward to in winter, but I usually try a bit of everything and sometimes I do find the surprise shows xD

    • Ness says:

Thanks all. It was a pain working on the css but worth it. Glad you all like the new design~ :3

  2. Highway says:

I’m kinda overloaded with “OMG New Series!!!!” like I tend to be at the beginning of seasons. So I’ve picked a couple to definitely blog, and then the rest I’m just gonna watch when they come out and see if I like them. I’ve already got 5 shows that are continuing from this Fall, so it’s definitely not out of the question to get back up to 15+ for me.

As far as preparation for upcoming sequels, I’ve been watching some of the older shows. I finished Haganai S1, watched Minami-ke S1 (not 2 or 3, tho, I’m torn as to whether to bother, since so many people seem to complain about them), and I’m about halfway through Chihayafuru (the next episode for me is the Tokyo Regional Final). I do have to say that I can see glimmers of what people love about Chihayafuru, but I’m not seeing anything so far as to it being one of the ultra-best series from 2012.

    • akagami says:

      Yes join me brother!

Last season I had 21 new shows and dropped 7 (net 14). This season looks like 17, with 1 or 2 that are no the fence (I’ll probably crowdsource opinions on whether to try them). I say 17, but what, 3-4 shows are 5 minutes each or less?

    • Foshizzel says:

Hahah yeah there certainly are a lot of things to choose from and other series continuing from fall, but I always end up trying a bit of everything just to see if anything surprises me? For Fall that was Girls und Panzer, Tonari, Jojo and Sukitte Ii na yo! All of those series I originally planned on skipping but I enjoyed every episode <3

Woooooooo! Haganai s2! I still have to finish Chihiayafuru s1 I have been busy with awards and winter list hahah

  3. steev says:

This season doesn’t look good, but it doesn’t really have to be. Only 6 of the shows I was watching ended. So as long as there are a few shows I like, I say this season will do just fine.

I am looking forward to Minami-ke 4 and Roman the most. I am a huge fan of Minami-ke series and if Roman has any kind of the same grown up flair that Mine Fujiko had last year, then it should be good. I’ll probably watch Tamako Market because Kyoto Ani’s anime, while not always my favorite, tend to be pretty entertaining. Haganai 2 will also be watched, mainly cause I saw season 1 and I am a sucker for sequels even if I didn’t really like the show nearly as much as everyone else.

    • Foshizzel says:

I am with you Steev, winter does not look that impressive and I have my eyes on like 5 core shows besides the ones I am blogging of course~

Yeah I am 50/50 on Minami-ke as a whole I mean it really is funny even though there really is little to no plot, but as a comedy alone it works for me.

I can’t wait for Haganai s2! It comes out after my birthday lololol

  4. Tofu says:

TAMAKO~ TAMAKO~ TAMAKO~ TAMAKO~ !!! x3 What else is there to say!? I adore Tamako market simply because the K-On staff is behind the effort in bringing this original work alive~! Even though Hikasa Yoko will not be voicing anyone (nor are the other HTT girls), this will definitely be a great mix between nostalgia and refreshment! It really does look like a beautiful show you’d sit back and relax with. Definitely character centered which KyoAni does best.

Although in terms of the shows Hikasa is actually voicing, I might give Cuticle Detective a try. Unfortunately OC, I have to slightly disagree with you and say that the comedy isn’t my cup of tea. The goat seems a bit… ridiculous but in my eyes, not in a funny way. Maybe I might change my mind once I watch it. I’ll definitely try to enjoy the show for what it is then trying to point out the mistakes as much as possible. (Although she’s only a supporting character so who knows when she’ll actually voice… T_T)

But besides that, Yama no Susume is a show I’m definitely watching. It’s got a great potential of character development which can really shine if done properly with the story about conquering fears.

Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten that there’s a SECOND SEASON of BOKU WA TOMODACHI GA SUKUNAI!!!!! YESSSS!!!!!!!

    UNIIIIIIIVERRRRRSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

I was a bit disappointed they didn’t include the story writing in the series BUT THEN they use it for a whole special episode! I was so happy and laughing my ass off!!! Unfortunately I never got to reading the light novels so I’m going in the second season totally blind. Not that it’s a bad thing. I’m looking forward to more Sena VS Yozora and that beautiful character development and Kobato being cute with Rika’s dirty mind and and and AND!!! *shot dead*

*comes back alive* THAT KANSAI DIALECT IS BACK!!! ARATA!!!!!! (… wait…. why do i sound like a fangirl? O_O) AHEM! Chihayafuru really captures the art of karuta, not just how intense the game can get back the meaning behind the cards. It’s also got great characters and we’ll FINALLY GET TO SEE MORE THIS SEASON!!! I can’t wait! Hurry and air already~!!! x3 I want more Chihaya~!! <3

I'll definitely give the rest of the shows a try. Who knows, I might find a hidden gem somewhere ;D Good work on the graphics as always guys! Sorry I haven't been commenting as much T____T

    • Foshizzel says:

      TAMAKOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That really looks like a fun series for the hardcore K-ON fans out in the world and yeah agreed Tofu KyoAni does good work with character based anime.

Hahahah Who can pass up more Haganai? Especially if you loved the first season!? I have missed the oddball characters and yes agreed UUNNIIVVERSSEEEEE!

No problem Tofu I have to get back into commenting on other blogs….

  5. Namika says:

KSOKSOKSOKSOKSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~ I wanna see the Ao no Exorcist movie, I don’t want to wait 8 months to watch it!!!! TT^TT I was waiting for almost a year and now I have to wait even more TT^TT please, let it magically appear in the net soon TT^TT

Other than than, there’s surprisingly a lot(more or less) stuff that grabbed my eye. First of all, Mondai-ji-tachi bla bla. Are long*ss names trendy right now? They kinda irritate me -_- but anyways, the trailer was fun. I liked the art, so I’m going to check that out. Next, comes Amnesia. OH, I’m so watching this. The art looks really pretty and after Kuroko no basket ended, I’ve been feeling a lack of bishieness and unfortunately Kougami isn’t making up for it, so YES, this is right up my alley. And speaking of Kuroko no basket, I had no idea about the OVA!!! When I noticed the image of Kuroko I was so glad, then, when I was reading the summary I almost squealed with happiness, but then BOOM. February. Whaaaaaaaaaa??? come ooon! Season 2 will air this spring, so I spent two seasons without the basketball bishieness. HAVE MERCY! >> but A-1 pictures?? YES. Definitely, yes. After watching Ao-Ex, my respect for this studio skyrocked, really. Not to mention their other anime I love.
Sasami-san ganbaranai sounds kinda nice. I’m not expecting much, but I’ll at least give it a try. After finding out about Welcome to the NHK I have a thing for hikikomori stuff so I’ll try this. And marathon Welcome to the NHK sometime this month too. :3
Next, Love Live! School idol project. Well…. honestly, the last music anime I was loving, aka Tari Tari, I ended up dropping for some reason. Idk why, it was really nice and pleasant but it didn’t make me want to keep watching it, even my love for music. Maybe this anime will show more passion for music. From that point, AKB0048 looks interesting too, but I’m not into sci-fi/music genre crossovers, judging from the fact that I didn’t like Macross at all.
Next, the Junjou Romantica special. Oh well, gotta have my pure romance ^w^ I love yaoi, and I love Junjou, after all :3
AAAaaaaan last but not least, Hetaliaaa~ <3 Seriously, how can you not watch that? :3 I hate history but Hetalia made me love it.

So, this is it. My watchlist rarely gets this big and I rarely watch all anime from my watchlist, but still. I have finals in January and in February we have a winter break so more anime time for meeeh :3 YESH, getting back to ongoings definitely feels good! <3

    • Foshizzel says:

I feel your pain on wanting to see Ao no Exorcist movie and yeah I don’t want to wait 8 months for that because I want to see the index movie, Evangelion movie and Stardriver movie! Damn I want to move to Japan…lololol

Yeah I am curious about Mondai-ji-tachi! It does look colorful and reminds me a lot of C3~

I am excited for ore AKB0048 that first season had a great blend of character interaction, mecha and idol singing!

      • Namika says:

Yeeees! That’s just painful, to wait 8 months! Even my mom wants to see that movie, she loved Ao-Ex 😀

Haven’t watched C3 but Definitely checking out Mondai-ji-tachi, I liked the bunny! Lets see how fun will it be :3

Hmmm. I’m a little confused about AKB0048. The second season looks nice, but I don’t really want to watch the first one because I’m lazy and I have some other stuff to watch. But then I think to myself “It’s only 13 episodes, just watch it” and oh…….. We shall see

  6. Namika says:

By the way, great job guys! Your seasonal anime posts are always very informative, and I love the format you’ve given to these posts. Otsukare Sama~ ^w^

  7. BlackBriar says:

It’s that time again where fans sniff out what’s hot and what’s not with the three episode test. Hmm… For the New Year, Winter isn’t looking as appealing as last season which was great and means there might not be a high anime watch count this time but there might be some hidden gems among these shows so I’ll stay optimistic for the time being. And the current trend for most shows seems to be one where there are super powered humans. Just reading the genre for Senran Kagura, it’s MetaFap worthy and just like Fosh, I hope it’s not censored or I’ll rage.

The shows on my sights are Zettai Karen Children, Vividred Operation, the Chuunibyou, Girls und Panzer, OniiAi, Nurarihyon no Mago and Code: Breaker OVAs. Mondai-Ji-Tachi looks very C3. It should be a good ride. I’ve already liking the look of bunny characters so all that’s left to worry is the story. Maoyuu Maou Yuusha is basically another guy meets monster girl anime. Well, every season has to have one.

Second season of Boku wa Tomodachi. YES!! More Rika perversion, Kodaka being misunderstood by his classmates, Sena stalking Kobato and Kobato vs Maria. Place your bets on the contenders. I’ve betting it all on the Hanazawa character. Also as anticipated is AKB0048 Next Stage. I’ve missed the singing battle idols and it’s time to gets some answers last season wasn’t able to provide. And they better not leave out the light saber action.

I’ve already burned through two parts of Nekomonogatari and it’s great. The way it’s shown, it’s a movie broken into four parts. Back to old NisiOisin Monogatari goodness and Black Hanekawa is sexy. Definitely prefer her over the original.

Hellsing Ultimate OVA 10: “sobs” It’s the end. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Does anyone have any idea how much this is making me cry right now? Feels like a big hole has been put into my heart. It means after this, there’s no more hot Seras Victoria being badass and kicking ass especially now that the show’s gotten better since she’s finally drank blood and became a true vampire. As hard as this might be, I have to savor every last moment.

    • Highway says:

I’m actually hoping that Haganai makes a move towards a couple. I didn’t mind that the first season was open-ended, because that felt right for that length of show. But it really felt narrowed down to Sena vs Yozora at the end of the season, and I think the show would be best if it at least worked toward one couple by the end of the second season, rather than keeping going with the open-ended-ness.

And even if I’d prefer Yozora, either Sena or Rika would be fine as well.

      • Karakuri says:

I’m kind of hoping for an actual couple too… I’ve always thought of Kodaka’s options as either Yozora or Sena, so I’m really curious to see where the story ends up.

        • BlackBriar says:

The way things were developing, there might be a couple option. I’m betting more on Kodaka pairing up with Yozora since they’re childhood friends. That little detail is like an assurance in relationships when it comes to anime.

          • Highway says:

Hah, that reminds me of my blog-mate Sumairii’s first rule of anime: “The childhood friend always wins… except when they don’t.”

          • Karakuri says:

Childhood friends do tend to have the upper hand in these things…

Unless of course, a new mysterious girl shows up at the beginning of the series, which sets the whole social structure off balance. Though Haganai didn’t have that, so again, Yozora seems to have the upper hand.

            • BlackBriar says:

The childhood friend could have a bad upbringing for all we know but they’d still end up being together. That’s anime law right there. I don’t see a new character coming in. The trailer had no indication on the subject and if anything, the show will just up the ante over what it already has. For someone as mean spirited as Yozora, she certainly has an advantage.

            • Highway says:

Nah, that show doesn’t need a new person. It’s all wild cards anyway.

            • Karakuri says:

I meant at the veeeeeery beginning of the series. Like Senjou winning over Tsubasa in Bakemonogatari (…not that Araragi and her were childhood friends, but close enough) or that red haired girl from Ano Natasu getting between the main guy and that blue haired childhood friend girl. …Or Rias from H Dekinai winning over that other childhood friend girl.

            • Highway says:

I dunno, unless there’s a new girl, of course the childhood friend is gonna win (plus you’re not going to have much of a show). But I can think of lots of shows where the childhood friend isn’t really the frontrunner: OreImo (even though Manami is my second pick after Kuroneko), Shuffle! (where Kaede goes Yandere), the aforementioned Boku H (not Rias, tho, Lisara), Ano Natsu (and Onegai Teacher), Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi (although I don’t know if H-game adaptations really count), Sankarea. Of course, there’s a bunch where they do win: KoiChoco, IS, Nyan Koi! (at least it looked like she was winning), Kimikiss.

Hmm, what genre do I really like…

        • Highway says:

Yeah, I thought the setup was pretty obviously Yozora or Sena, with Kobato, Yukimura, and Maria as obvious jokes and Rika as The Joker but she doesn’t really have a shot.

Between Yozora and Sena, tho, that’s a tough one for Kodaka. Childhood Friend vs. Parental Approval. One does wonder why Sena can’t find another guy, tho, if they’re all after her anyway.

  8. Gecko says:

Senyuu, Mondai-ji-tachi, Amnesia, Cutical Detective, Maoyuu, Sasami-san, Kotoura-san, Hetalia, and the Star Driver Movie are all looking interesting to me. It seems like a lot to me but I know something will fall apart. I’m the most worried about Maoyuu since I love the manga.
Everything else is just for fun. RL has calmed down for me and I figure I need a break. I’ve got Psycho-Pass and Shin Sekai Yori for my serious time. Not to mention a lot of the comedy shows are looking good. I think this is going to be an alright season.
Great job with all the graphics and the details :3

    • Karakuri says:

I’m kind of worried about Maoyuu as well. …It just seems like so much dialogue and economics talk for people to sit through. Though Spice and Wolf managed it, so maybe I’m worrying for nothing.

      • Gecko says:

It might not be too much economics.
And there’s always the ecchi part to keep people going.

      • Highway says:

If the first episode is any indication, it’s not going to be boring at all.

  9. skylion says:

What is this? The holiday season has left me more of a train wreck than the end of Guilty Crown, and you guys have got the Winter ’13 reviews out already!

And Highway has overtaken me! OMG this is a most morbid of moments; methinks. I caught up with some JoJo tonite, bear with me.

Well, there isn’t too much that tickles my fancy. Lots of smaller studio are making a push. As per my habit, gonna give most of it a try, but there are a few that put the chips in my cookie.

OoooOoOoO. K-ON flashbacks, dudes. Tamako Market is gonna be the bomb. Oh, Fosh, mochi is most definitely not rice-cakes. Rice cakes be crunchy, and as you can see in some of the promo stills, mochi be chewy-y. It’s like eating a bowl of rice flavored taffy, but it isn’t.
What this has to do with a chicken (why does it have to be a chicken, again….is Nagoya spreading?!) I have no idea, but if it’s cute girls, doing cute thing, with KyoAni behind it, then call me an instant fan-boy-man.

Haganai, NEXT! More Naked Loli Service Oh, will it live up to the hype. As Highways says above, I hope they pare down and make a real ship happen. I would choose Sena, but Science Girl would be really really For Science!

VividRed has every feel I need, Lvlln spelled it all out…no need for me to go on. panstu

To Be Next Stage! I went from a skeptic, to an all out convert. Evetaku provided the raws for the 1st episode of the newest AKB0048, and it looks and sounds like all my issues are going to be addressed. I couldn’t be more pleased. Be seeing you, Hawt!

Bothy Yuusha and Cuticle Detective look like my kinda deal, so I will be checking them out.

Chihayafuru 2 is high on my list as well. I will never be a karuta player, much less a master, so this is as close as I get. Plus, all the feels. And the barrel-rolls.

    • BlackBriar says:

Whoa! Even I have to admit, Highway is getting fierce with his comment output. Overtaking you certainly opened my eyes to the fact. But skylion, you’re not out of the woods yet. You have a returning Metanorn reader and commenter, Namika, closing in on you with exceptional speed.

    • Namika says:

I know how it feels, Skylion. You did push me to the 6th place, so I do 😀

      • skylion says:

        All in good fun.

        • BlackBriar says:

          LOL. Fun for everyone!!

          • Karakuri says:

Careful Briar or anaaga might include you in the Highway x skylion ship xD

            • BlackBriar says:

Noooooooohoho!!! Anything but that!! I got to tread carefully around her. It wouldn’t surprising if that happened because I’m one of the three most frequent commenters here. So naturally I’d have a target on my back.

            • Highway says:

“One of the three…” I still note a 2xxx number for your comments, while I still have a yyy number. I honestly don’t know if I’ve narrowed the gap to you in a meaningful way. 🙂

            • Kyokai says:

Oh, we have a ménage à trois now? :3

  10. skylion says:

Spammy. I try to feed you well.

    • BlackBriar says:

You feed him, you play with him and still he turns around and bites you. This spam monster has no sense of loyalty.

    • Foshizzel says:

I feed it everyday! Thanks for the spam food <3

  11. akagami says:

Hmm, at first glance, my list is:
    1) Puchimas! Petit Idolmaster – Idolm@ster! I am Lady!
    2) Yama no Susume – not too sure, but at 5 minutes it’s an easy digest. Cute girls doing cute things?
    3) Mangirl! – bad title choice, bad title choice. Seems decent and at 5 minutes it’ll be an easy test drive. Didn’t like Bakuman though.
    4) Maoyuu Maou Yuusha – Fukujun (Lawrence) and Ami (Holo)? Check. Spice and Wolf team? Check. You had me Fukujun.
    5) D.C. III ~Da Capo III~ – I don’t know anything really about the D.C. series, but SS was decent, so I’ll give this a shot.
    6) Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru – romance comedy? That’s all I need to know.
    7) AKB0048 Next Stage – this will be added to my backlog list, as I just started AB0048 (season 1) on a recommendation, and surprisingly it’s actually pretty good (I was thinking Xenoglossia which was forgettable).
    8) Minami-ke Tadaima – the series has had its highs and lows, but it has always been an enjoyable time-killer at the very least. Go Kana!
    9) Senran Kagura – I’ve never seen the game, but ecchi/fanservice doesn’t bother me, plus its comedy (with ninjas!). Auto-add.
    10) Love Live! School Idol Project – this one is a gamble. I really enjoyed Idolm@ster and
Natsuiro Kiseki, so here’s hoping the trend continues!
    11) Tamako Market – I don’t really know much beyond it’s an original work and it’s Kyoto so it’s worth a watch. The negatives are a boring premise (mochi???) and their last work (Chuunibyou) was a letdown for me. Positives are K-ON! and Lucky Star (both great). And Kyoto is no slouch in the animation department.
    12) GJ-bu (Good Job Club) – not sure what to expect, but cute character designs and it’s a 4koma, so either it’ll be fun or go down in flames. There’s no in-between.
    13) Sasami-san@Ganbaranai – Romance. Comedy. Add Shaft. This has win written all over it.
    14) Vividred Operation – the only show I have high expectations for. Strike Witches!
    15) Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT – thoroughly enjoyed the first season and looking forward to this one as well. Romance + Comedy for me is like candy for a fat kid.
    16) Kotoura-San – it’s RomCom, but the designs are… meh. But it’s RomCom and that means mandatory testdrive.
    17) Mondai-Ji-tachi ga Isekai Kara Kuru sou Desu yo? – the premise is interesting enough, so it’s worth a spin. Fantasy is right up my alley.
18? This really isn’t a full season, but Nekomonogatari – pure win. Bakemono and Nisemono were great.

    On the fence:
Cuticle Tantei Inaba – wolf guy detective themed show? Not really my cup of tea, but mitigating factors – UN-GO and Hyouka were great. Kamisama Memchou was decent.
Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun – I saw a trailer and not sure what this really is. Going to wait it out.
AMNESIA – this has bishies! Unfortunately I need more than pretty people as a reason and I don’t know enough to decide if it’s worth checking out. On second thought, that’s all I had to go on for K. Hmmmm…..
Senyu – Fractale was fail, but this is only 5 minutes. Though the designs look like I’m watching Pokemon.

  14. Karakuri says:

WHOAWHOAWHOAWHOA. …It’s a good thing I actually read over the catalogue. I had no idea Kuro to Kin was getting an OVA.

  15. Amutofan123 says:

It’s been a while since I’ve watched an otome game adaptation, but I’ll definitely be watching Amnesia. With Brains Base handling it, hopefully there won’t be anything to worry about.

Watching Cuticle Detective Inaba for the cute goat-villian and the cute main character. It seems so quirky that it might just work.

Everyone keeps comparing Maoyuu Maou Yuusha to Spice & Wolf, so I’ll give this a try. I haven’t watched Spice & Wolf, but everyone I’ve talked to says it’s great.

I overlooked OreShura when it was first announced because it didn’t seem like my thing, but I’ll give it a shot. It does look really cute.

Anything (usually) from Shaft get’s an automatic watch from me, so Sasami-san@Ganbaranai is definitely on my list. Of course, it looks like something I would have watched whether Shaft did it or not.

The only anime that I used to really like from Kyoani were Key stuff, but after Hyouka and Chuunibyou (both of which I ended up adoring), I’m sooo watching Tamako Market.

I think I might wait until Kizumonogatari comes out (whenever that will be) before watching Nekomonogatari. Then I’ll rewatch everything in chronological order.

Really great preview, guys! There’s not much I’m watching this winter, but there is a lot of 2-cour shows from Fall that will still be airing, so I don’t mind.

    • Namika says:

The last otome game adaptation I’ve seen was Arcana Famiglia, but I’m STILL watching Amnesia. Brains Base….. DON’T LET ME DOWN!!!!

The moment I saw that SHAFT was making Sasami-san Ganbaranai, it was pretty much a sealed deal. Teheee~ Can’t wait to see~ :3

    • Kyokai says:

Thanks, Amutofan! Winter isn’t very happening but we’ll go by.

  16. Hawthorne says:

I just realized Yama no Susume is only a 3 minute long anime. That sucks! >: I love the premise, but I guess there wasn’t enough source material?

    Will still watch though!

    • BlackBriar says:

Ridiculous! What kind of anime only lasts 3 minutes?! It’s unheard of. This must be some kind of joke. Maybe they should’ve put the project on hold until a story comes together.

      • Karakuri says:

I don’t know if anyone remembers Nyanpire, but those were pretty short. Same with the original Nyaruko animations.

        • BlackBriar says:

Hmm… I’m not familiar with that anime and it’s the first time I’ve heard of it. Was it any good?

          • Karakuri says:

Pfft Nyanpire was a series of unfunny jokes made to sell cute cat-vampire themed merchandise to children. I gave it up after 2 episodes, but by all means, give it a try xD

            • BlackBriar says:

Despite a keyword you mentioned, it sounds like an anime not worth anyone’s time and a bad marketing strategy so I don’t think I’ll even bother giving it a try. But thanks for the info, anyway.

            • anaaga says:

For a 2-5 minute anime that’s worth it, you should try Gakkatsu. It’s pretty decent. Well, the first episode

        • Hawthorne says:

It’s just hard to get into short anime, for me at least. 3-5 minutes feels too short! I haven’t seen either of the ones you mentioned Kara, but I am watching Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki, which despite being 3 minutes is hilarious! The Jintai shorts are also excellent. So I guess short anime can be done right, but I definitely prefer sitting back and getting immersed in a 23 minute show.

          • Karakuri says:

I imagine it’s hard to set up a plot if you’re only given 3 minutes, so I guess thats why there are so many gag ones in existence. …I wouldn’t bother with either of the two I’ve mentioned. Neither were very funny.

            • Highway says:

RecoRan actually did pretty well setting up a couple of plot arcs over 20+ episodes of a 3-minute series. There were a few threads that were going along, not just the obvious gags about Atsushi being a 5th grade bishounen.

      • Highway says:

I watched both Yama no Susume and Mangirl! (worst anime name EVER!) yesterday. They both seem interesting enough to keep with.

I also watched the first series of Recorder and Randsell, which wasn’t bad, although you’d think the cops would eventually figure out that maybe Atsushi isn’t a creeper after 20 episodes end with him getting carted off in a police car…

Some really stink, tho. I couldn’t get into Yutori-chan at all, despite HanaKana and Aoi Yuuki. The lips of the boss character creeped me out.

And remember that a 3 – 5 minute anime is really more like a 2-3.5 minute anime, cause they still have a 90-second ED…

  17. skylion says:

    Blackbriar

Noooooooohoho!!! Anything but that!! I got to tread carefully around her. It wouldn’t surprising if that happened because I’m one of the three most frequent commenters here. So naturally I’d have a target on my back.

Are we commenting here, or writing a plot?

I mentioned joining the Meta Team in a podcast a short while ago, maybe we could all jump in…a ship-cast….

    • Highway says:

Man the lifeboats! Iceberg, dead ahead!

    • BlackBriar says:

I’d go more with writing a plot because it feels like we’re playing into someone’s hand and everyone’s watching the show.

A podcast doesn’t sound so bad but I’d have to get another laptop first. The one I’m using now is so outdated it doesn’t even have a built in mic for conversations.

      • skylion says:

You hear that Team Meta, we have to do a podcast now, as BB needs a reason to upgrade.

      • anaaga says:

Hmm….. skylion and highway as two lonely ojisan who found the meaning of life through each other? And BlackBriar as an angsty universtiy student who falls in love with one of the ojisan’s kindness?

        That could work

OR OR the two ojisan fights for BB’s love! But I want to ship my ojisan

        • Karakuri says:

          …I support this.

        • skylion says:

          ::Takai:: Oooooh’ my!

        • BlackBriar says:

Good lord! This is going attract all the yaoi girls. Must…escape. I wonder what Kyokai, Overcooled, Miyu and Hime would say about this but I’m too afraid to find out. XD

          • skylion says:

            For Spring 2013

What happens to Blackbriar? He’s caught between two souls that have caught long and hard. He must choose….My Way or the Highway…

            • Karakuri says:

I’m dying of laughter. Someone fund this.

            • anaaga says:

Laughing so hard. Oh god I can’t.

It would be too boring if it has no blood though. *call Urobutcher* That guy makes great yaoi stories. Realllyyy great

            • Foshizzel says:

hahahah this is epic! Skylion, Highway and BB on a podcast? I am so down~

            • Kyokai says:

              This podcast will happen!

  18. d-LaN says:

I knew there will be another Carnival Phantasm! Saw it coming! I just hope no more Lancer(s) getting killed….

Hmm not many shows look interesting but there still a number of them tht looks interesting….

Honestly, tht dramatic ass shot of Vivired Operation caught my attention first lol. I enjoyed GC and I liked SF stuff so I think I will check this out.

Senran Kagura…. I think I found my “LOL/Guilty pleasure anime”… I think I will laugh quite hard if sunbeam-chan is getting a lot of scenes XD

Amnesia will be my next otome game anime adaptation aside frm Arcana Famiglia (dropped only after 1 ep after seeing Kara post =_=) so I hope I won’t suck…

I heard Maoyuu Maou Yuusha is full off economics…. whether I will enjoy it or not depends on whether can I stomach the economics lecture XD

Since I enjoyed chu2koi and Hyouka I think I will give Tamako Market a shot. Also DAT BIRD. Looks like a potential winner to Comedy Anime of the Early 2013 to me ^.^

Hakkendan premise sounds interesting… Might give it a look.

Love Life Idol or AKB…. decisions decisions…

Mangirl (Ha!) and Cute Girls Climbing Mountain looks fun too acc to RC….

Wut is Zettai Karren Children? Can I have a non spoiler overview/synapsis of the series?

Shows I am interested but haven’t check out the previous entry:

    Haganai
-monogatari (Coincidentally I stopped at EP3 of both seasons..)
    AKBoo48

Also I am suppose to work with my backlog too ==; Looks like i really have to manage tht list…

    • Kyokai says:

Get on Monogatari bandwagon as soon as you can. That series is gold and don’t let anyone else convince you otherwise.

About Zettai Karen Children, the previous story was about a group of goody espers who fought evil for humans and espers both, while Hyoubu’s organization only works for esper-centric missions. I haven’t watched the original series but as this is a spin-off, you won’t need to see the original to enjoy this.

  19. KLACMAN says:

since winter anime are coming only so far i’m checking are

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT
    Maoyuu Maou Yuusha
Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru
    Senran Kagura

give these 4 are in wonder if rest will convince me to see it.

  20. Sankaku says:

I don’t know why, but i find myself not being that excited about this new season… Maybe because I’ve been playing catch up with some other anime series, like Sword Art Online and Gosick. But I am planning on checking out the new Jojo series!
Anyhow, just found this site and I love the design! 😀

    • Kyokai says:

You definitely need to watch JoJo! It’s amazing!

And thanks for the compliments and glad you dropped by! ^^
