Well, that was easily another fantastic episode for me! What about you? Are you having just as much fun with this series as I am? Things are certainly happening, but of course I have to wonder how long can Kotoura-san maintain that balance of hilarious comedy and heartbreaking drama? So far they have impressed me; however, this is only the second episode. I also have to wonder when Hiyori will calm down and accept Haruka because clearly the ending video shows everyone hanging out together… Speaking of Hiyori for a moment do you think she will try to beat Haruka up or is she just working out some aggressive behavior on that training dummy? If she does resort to violence I hope Manabe comes running in to save Haruka, but whatever I still think that redhead is messed up. The other new characters seem to be fun like Daichi? I don’t know much about him right now but I do enjoy listening to his voice actor and I can’t forget to mention the popular Hanazawa Kana as Yuriko! I died laughing when she was all lovey dovey around Haruka even though she was kind of taking advantage of her new psychic friend…anyway what did you like this week?

Personally, i had a real boiling emotion going on when that school bullying started all over again at Kotoura’s new school. But at the same time, i thought that the development of hatred and fear/anxiety within the student body was a little hasty. Thought, the feeling of oppression seemed to compliment it well.

True they are doing a good job playing into the emotional side of things so far, but of course since this is drama it comes off as forced to MOST people watching.

I thought it was really kind of touching that the reason Moritani likes Manabe is the same reason Kotoura likes him, just differing in degree: Manabe’s the only person who accepted who she was, and thought who she was was a cool person. So even though her actions now made her out to be the temporary villain, knowing that about her softened the audience reaction to her, and even though it was great that Manabe put her in her place, I felt a little bit of sympathy for her. It’s really hard to find out that the guy you like is just not that into you. Now we’ll see if her integration into the ESP Research Club is because of a genuine turnaround or because she is still carrying a torch for Manabe.
And Holy Public Confession! Will that be taken for what it seemed to be? Or will Haruka and Manabe slip back a little and not really become a couple yet (I’m guessing this second one). It’s gotta be such a change for Haruka, having multiple people who know about her powers and yet try to help and protect her. A boy who likes hanging around her and even confessed that he likes her. A senpai that apologizes to her, instead of being the aggrieved person. I don’t think she’s trying to get away from the club at the end, just is so embarrassed by Manabe’s confession that she can’t face him.
Just a great show to watch.

Yeah I mean sure Hayori isn’t pure evil because like you said she does generally like Manabe, but with Haruka I think she views her as a rival? So that pushed her to the dark side of getting to her and thankfully Manabe is not a dumb guy and stood up for Haruka instead of letting her suffer weeks and weeks of being bullied. I know I am curious to see how and why she joins the club? Then again, I think she will do it for revenge purposes.
Hmmmm I imagine its all new for Haruka so she probably will ignore it for two or three episodes and then BOOM! Realize that she likes him? Sort of like the main couple in say I love you? I know it took a while for them to get together.
Embarrased Haruka is the best <3 and yes! I look forward to watching this every week~

Oh yeah, it’s definitely a rival thing, especially because Moritani has presumably been trying for a long time to get Manabe to notice her. And now here comes quiet freak girl that nobody likes, and just snatches him from her! I think there’s definitely room for redemption for her, much like Aiko had in Sukitte ii na yo. I’m just not sure how she’s going to get there.

Yeah, that one threw me off as well. Mifune’s voice definitely isn’t a typical HanaKana voice. And even after learning that it was her and rewatching, it still doesn’t really strike me as her, except there’s just a touch of similarity in certain parts.

I was surprised as well. Was that really the seiyuu known for moe roles? Never underestimate Kana Hanazawa. Her virus is contageous and she’s always trying something new. Binbougami ga’s Ichiko Sakura was an unexpected character choice in my opinion at the time.

She also does well as To Love-Ru’s Mikan Yuuki, Ao no Exorcist’s Shiemi Moriyama, Deadman Wonderland’s Shiro, Guilty Crown’s Ayase Shinomiya, Zetsuen no Tempest’s Aika Fuwa and Psycho-Pass’s Akane Tsunemori. Kana Hanazawa is good with contrast.

Her typical roles are easier to recognize. I recall really digging her work as Ayase in GC. Which is similar to her Zessica Wong role in Aquarion EVOL; and I could recognize that after one tiny pout her character made (well, tiny for a Hanazawa character).

If you want to hear some stranger roles try Chiaki from Mouretsu Pirates its kind of a tsun role! Also Kamisama dolls for an evil-yandere-girl named Mahiru Hyuuga, but if comedy is more your style id go for Sakura Ichiko from bimbogamiga~
I think that could happen possibly! That could be another reason why Yuriko is keeping Haruka around? Maybe being around a real physhic she might unlock her own powers? LOL

Yeah it was nice to get a introduction to the new characters! Yeah Hiyori such a terrible person and how will she become friends to Haruka? That is the new mystery, but I can kind of picture her pretending to befriend Haruka to get back at her? Thankfully with her mind reading power she kind of has the upper hand if redhead tries to do anything.

I’m still wondering if they’ll give us any more information about why Haruka seems constitutionally unable to prevent herself from responding or reacting to the things she reads in people’s minds. We’ve only seen one time that she’s let something go, when she was transferring out of her previous school.
I think it would be rather interesting if it was investigated, and explained that she actually had something that mentally forced her to respond (kind of like the Kizu Random arc of Kokoro Connect). It would really take something that seems like a blessing – ability to read minds – and turn it into the curse that we see Haruka dealing with, as she’s seemingly powerless to resist that compulsion.

I’ve thought some myself about why Haruka can’t seem to keep from blurting out what people really think no matter how much she’s suffered because of it. For what it may be worth, here’s my take.
Her mind reading developed at a very early age so she was never able to distinguish a difference between what people thought and what they said. Thus she would react (comment on) what they thought since that was the truth. It became a habit she was never able to suppress. And because it’s impossible to lie to her she never learned to lie herself (she may even have trouble grasping the concept) and thus she became a compulsive truth-teller, no matter how negatively people reacted to her. On top of that, she’s probably developed a fatalistic streak that people are always going to hate her so she might as well just go ahead and say what they’re really thinking.
But, yeah, it’d be nice if the anime addressed this issue.

Speculation: Perhaps whatever providence gave her the ability to read minds also gave her the compulsion to respond to it to forestall this very thing. Like a “You can have this power, but you can’t use it to cheat other people.”

I think it’s a lock that Kumiko will reappear in the series. There’s a reason we saw her face multiple times, and she was a character that we were introduced to, while Haruka’s father was a nobody whose face we never saw. I wonder how much Kumiko will have been scarred by her experience with Haruka. As time goes on, my sympathy for her grows as well: she never asked for this, something that should have been a blessing turned into a curse, ruined her marriage, ruined her reputation, pretty much destroyed her life because she couldn’t handle it. And remember that all of that is based on lies: Everyone else was lying to cover themselves from Haruka’s truth telling, even Haruka’s parents.
It’s a very similar setup to the Cassandra mythos.

I think it’s easier said than done really. It’s a question of who she is rather than one of what she does. That’s hard to change.
And it gives a great opportunity for the show to explore. She can’t be Charles Xavier (Professor X) right from the get go; that would be rather boring, and not at all with the theme of the show. It’s all about her, s’what it says on the tin.

Second episode in and going strong since the first. Man, I really get pissed when I see a good hearted character who is just different being bullied by insensitive and prejudiced idiots. Lucky the perverted Manabe has a good heart to look out for Kotoura and tear Hiyori a new one.
I don’t condone Yuriko’s selfish plan that she included Kotoura in at the beginning but I understand why she did it and she had the decency to acknowledge her mistake and apologize. Seeing her mother commit suicide must have scarred her more than she’s showing.
