MetaVerse Episode 20: Hanging with Team Meta

A very ‘Meta’ episode.

So this week is a little bit of a relaxed version of MetaVerse. We talk some news and views and also answer your questions from MetaQ.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: Next time you hear from us, we will be doing a MetaCast review for Fate/Zero. In the next couple weeks, if you think of anything you’d love to hear us talk about or any questions about the series, comment here, on MetaQ or in Kyokai’s F/Z posts.

Welcome to another episode of MetaVerse and this time, we definitely have a big milestone with another zero added to our double digit episode. Hope you like our off the cuff episode with some MetaQs thrown in (don’t forget to add in some more!) with general site updates. Keep a lookout on our sidebar for upcoming announcement and our next Aniblog Tourney poll to be live on 20th of June! Enjoy~

Jrow Hi5 man, Megurine Luka FTW!!! <3

My top 3 are currently: K-On, Clannad and Toradora for most favourite series all time. K-On for obvious reasons most people know by now but Clannad and Toradora were also part of my accidental stumble across the AniBlogsphere so not only do the story resonate with me but has really influenced my life ^^

Oh trust me… there's definitely doujins for Touhou Anaaga LOLS! (Right Fosh? Right? ;D)

Thanks for answering my questions guys! ^^ I've always been conflicted with the loyalty aspect when it came to blogging for multiple sites (although I don't currently but I have thought about it from time to time) so it's good hearing other peoples thoughts on the matter instead of stressing over it without asking anyone XD

A new Power Rangers series – a collaboration between Metanorn staff and Saban Entertainment ;D I'd totally watch that for the lols

    • Jrow says:

I just recently saw an episode of Toradora at the convention I went to and was like, “whoa, I’m missing out!” and downloaded the series. I will be watching it soon enough!

I didn’t think about the loyalty aspect of it. As you can see and hear, I’ve done pretty well in keeping my loyalty towards both camps.

      • Tofu says:

ooo~ You must get to it ASAP Jrow! >:3

I guess it all falls under how much time you can contribute to both blogs ey? XD Though on the same note for multiple site bloggers… I wonder if any actually cover different series on each site or use a copy-and-paste method if they want to write the same series for both sites (but that seems like a really dirty thing to do in my opinion :\)

        • Jrow says:

I know Guardian Enzo of Lost in Anime and RC fame does that, but he blogs that and a handful more on his site and his post formatting is different. When I was doing the multi-site blogging, I looked at it as an opportunity to blog something different like a BRS or Jormungand. Any podcast ideas I come up with, I’ll share with both sites.

      • Kyokai says:

Jrow, Toradora is not my top 10 but still a very endearing series that you should never miss out on! xD

        Same goes for School Rumble.

      • Foshizzel says:

Toradora is goooooooooood! I need to buy the DVDs for that series and show my sister she liked a bit of Clannad and After Story…but ya it was way to depressing because of all the DRAAMAAAA.

    • Foshizzel says:

Lulz! There are doujins for EVERYTHING…I am scared to see any Nichibears ones lololol

No problem! I thought about doing some guest posts on my irl brothers blog whenever he gets it up and running, but yeah more power to the ones who can pull off posting for two or even three blogs.

META RANGERS!? I want to be the smart science ranger…

  2. BlackBriar says:

Hehehe, Team Meta is back again and now the Megane-chan Kara and Yaoi fangirl Anaaga are onboard. It’s the first time hearing their voices and I must say, they sound nice. Don’t ever change the site’s presentation, please!!! Let the haters hate. It’s perfect as it is!!

It truly is coming to the end of Spring with these great shows like Tasogare and Jormungand (halfway though) coming to a close. I’ve already seen a list of anime slated for Summer and some of them look good. I’d say that it will be as packed as Spring. So, what title are we going to give next season? Winter was Yuri season and Spring is pretty much Season of the Dead with Sankarea, Tasogare and Kore wa Zombie.

I’m still sulking Kore wa Zombie has finished so early. It was like I waited a year and couple of months to watch one of the hilarious shows ever and it’s already over. I was thinking “Wait, is it really over?” “NOOOO!!!” My only solace is that there are indications of a third season. I didn’t mind the lack of plot because it was just fun to watch.

Toonami is back!!! YES!! It was a crime it ended in the first place because it was the best part of Cartoon Network and my reason to rush straight home after school. I’m so glad it’s back along with Steve Blum’s character Tom. The list of shows they have is worth staying up late at night.

@Jrow: I’m diversed on games as well. I’d go for games like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Prince of Persia, Jak and Daxter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Grand Theft Auto, Megaman (Zero, Battle Network, Starforce), Pokemon and Golden Sun. One of my favorite video game heroes? Prince of Persia. Favorite video game villain? Final Fantasy VII’s Sephiroth.
@Kyokai: You’re into Mortal Kombat?! High five!!! Love the fatalities. My favorite catch phrase: GET OVER HERE!!!

Questions: Since you guys work pretty much like a family, who do you think you would feel better in sync with when you’re doing a tag team post? I don’t know if you were saving this idea for one of your Metanorn anniversary posts like the one defining the reason behind your screen name but what are the reasons behind your titles? I already know about one or two but I’d be curious to read everyone’s opinion on the subject on a post, then I’d explain the details of mine. Hahaha.

@Karakuri: Thanks for the shoutout. LOL. I’m actually blushing from it. I love the conversations we dish out in the Tasogare posts. It’s one of the best animes of the season. By the way, how far are you with Trinity Blood? Are you liking the story?

    • Jrow says:

I’m with you all the way on Zombie Desu ka. Lack of plot meant more time to have fun with the characters which is the show’s greatest strength.

I did get to watch Toonami last weekend. Deadman’s alright, but I did think Casshern Sins was a bit boring as Fosh has mentioned to me. Maybe I just caught a so-so episode.

I like a lot of your list of games. Did you like the Prince of Persia reboot with Elika? The other ones are good, but I really loved the art style, Nolan North’s role as Prince and Elika was awesome.
That surprised me that Kyo was involved in some office MK battles. We got a Wii in the office and only do bowling tournaments on rare occasions.

      • BlackBriar says:

Kore Wa Zombie would’ve worked out with a plot or not in my opinion. It’s one of those shows you can’t help but like. And you are right about the characters being the greatest strength. They’re the reason it all works out and there are really none you can actually dislike.

It’s good to Toonami back in action. Casshern is a bit sluggish but I can’t say more because I’m only now getting to know it. Deadman’s dub version is working nicely and I think they’ve picked the right people for the roles and personally, I’m happy they chose one of my favorite actresses, Monica Rial, to play Shiro. I’ll basically watch anything that has Funimation’s tag on it and Deadman and Casshern happen to be two of the bunch.

Thanks for the compliment on the games. I’ve seen but haven’t played the Prince of Persia reboot with Elika. It’s not half bad looking. I’ve played the original three: Sands of Time, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones. I haven’t finished the first but have finished with the other two which were badass and are my favorite installments. Can’t wait to get a PS3 so I can buy all 3 remastered games.

Kyokai liking Mortal Kombat completely went over my head. I wonder if she’ll get the latest one for PS3 or PS Vita.

        • Foshizzel says:

YES! I love every character in Kore wa zombie! Hell Ayumu is a very great lead male in a harem series I mean can you say that about any other harem lead? I know there are better ones but usually 99% of the time the leads are like DEEEERRRP WHAT ARE GIRLS? AND WHAT ARE THESE FEELS?

Toonami is awesome but sadly the poor choice in series turns Deadman Wonderland into the greatest english dubbed comedy thanks to all the censorship! Monica Rial is a great new actress I love her work as Shiro even though she gets so annoying at times and if you watch Fairy Tail dubs she voices Happy and does a excellent job with that xD

I wonder if Jrow knows a girl voices Luffy in the funimation dub of One Piece? I know most know it is the same with the Naruto dubs, but Natsu from Fairy Tail is a guy xD

          • Jrow says:

Luffy’s voiced by a girl both in the Japanese and American dubs. Girls have a way with voicing some of those main protagonists, especially noisy ones like Luffy & Naruto.

I’m not too familiar with english VA’s, but besides of course Steven Blum, I always liked Christopher Sabat.

            • BlackBriar says:

I’m familiar with some of the voice actors in Funimation’s employ:

Christopher Sabat (Vegeta, Piccolo: Dragon Ball Z), Eric Vale (Trunks: DBZ; Tamaki: Deadman Wonderland), Monica Rial (Shiro: Deadman; Hazuki: Moon Phase; Mina Tepes: Dance in the Vampire Bund), Colleen Clinkenbeard (Luffy: One Piece; Esther Blanchett: Trinity Blood; Makina: Deadman), Carrie Savage (Sei: Black Blood Brothers; Artemis: Moon Phase; Astharoshe Asran: Trinity Blood), Greg Ayres (Ganta: Deadman), Troy Baker (Abel Nightroad: Trinity Blood; Count Heinrich Von Kinkel: Moon Phase; Yamato: Naruto Shippuden), Aaron Dismuke (Ion Fortuna: Trinity Bood; Yoh: Deadman), Jerry Jewell (Zelman Clock: Black Blood Brothers; Natsuno: Shiki), Jamie Marchi (Masane: Witchblade; Meg: Burst Angel; Panty: Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt), Vic Mignogna (Broly: DBZ; Edward Elric: FMA Brotherhood), Sean Schemmel (Goku: DBZ).

Yeah, Steve Blum is all over the place wheter it’s anime, mainstream stuff like “The Legend of Korra” or video games. He recetly got into the Guiness Book of World Records for being the VA with the most video game roles. WOW!!!

            • Foshizzel says:

Ahhh yeah I guess they do the “fighting” sound effects better? xD

Christopher Sabat is voicing Elfman in Fairytail dubs! So basically he says MAN all the damn time…

          • BlackBriar says:

Yeah, Luffy is voiced by Colleen Clinkenbeard. She’s provided her voice for roles like Rachel Moore in Case Closed, Erza Scarlet in Fairy Tail and Yuko Ichihara in xxxHolic. She even plays the warden Makina in Deadman Wonderland.

      • Foshizzel says:

Deadman Wonderland dub is pretty much like this

BLEEEP BLEEEEEP HI YOU ARE A BLEEEEP BLEEEP BLEEEEP SON OF A BLEEEEEEEEEPP and then freaking Shiro is like tee hee hee Ganta you are so funny BLLLEEEEEEEEEP someone gets killed HOLY BLLEEEEEEEEP

And they want Panty and Stocking on Adult swim? TROLOLOLOLOL good luck.

    • Karakuri says:

As far as I’m concerned, spring is going to bring an otome game turned anime overload with Arcana Famiglia, Hakuouki and Hiiro no Kakera continuing. It does seem to have it’s fair share of people in clubs doing club thing anime too. …And then there’s the seasonal anime about historical figures in Japanese history being replaced by moe girls. I guess it depends which ones shine through the most.

Kore wa Zombie was TOO SHORT!!! There had better be a third season or whatever, because the characters just got good. Plus I only got over the lack of plot halfway through…

Ahaha no problem! I really do enjoy talking to you guys through comments (I’ll get to the latest Tasogare ones soon). Plus it’s always great to hear other people’s opinions on things. Trinity Blood? I still haven’t gotten to Ion’s appearance yet (I was on the episode where all of the churches explode and that black haired woman dies), but so far so good! I was distracted by finding some Chinese raws for Bloody Cross and the whole marathoning One Piece thing. I can’t read half of them, but IT GETS GOOD.

      • BlackBriar says:

So from that analysis, Summer might become historical season. And as usual we’ll have to sort out the good from the bad.

They better have another season or I’ll rage. You couldn’t believe how happy I was when season two was announced. It was great despite the plot. The biggest surprises came from Kyoko, Chris and Saraswati.

I enjoy talking through comments as well. It’s a shame Tasogare is reaching its inevitable end. There’s so much to talk about. Ah, you’re at that point of Trinity Blood. Believe me, when Ion shows up, it’ll get a lot better and you’ll want to see more. He and Esther would make a nice pair and I can see a lot of romance in it. LOL. But really, think of it: A vampire aristocrat boy and a nun. Nice.

Yeah, Bloody Cross. I read chapter 18 and 19 and they were great. Tsukimiya and Hinata make an interesting couple. My jaw dropped when I found out Hinata was actually a good guy after all his treason and what he did to Tsukimiya. My favorite part was when she bit him while fighting. But Hinata has gotten himself into hot water at the end of chapter 19. How will he get out of this? I want to know so badly!! By the way, I know something you might like about Bloody Cross. Should I tell you now or wait until the Summer Anime Catalogue comes out? LOL. For other vampire manga, I recommend Blood Parade and Crime Zone.

        • Karakuri says:

          Yeah…. that’s a good point.

I should really go check out the site and read whatever they announced, but I’m …lazy. Forget Chris, I knew that was coming but Saras REALLY surprised me when her Ayumu fetish suddenly turned… romantic.

Ahaha I’ll keep pressing on then! It’s just been… slow lately. Abel is cool and all, but his badassery always seems so short-lived.

Oh, I think I’m up at chapter 38. Yep. Tsukimiya gets even more badass (but disappears for a couple of chapters). There’s also an interesting development regarding her new brand, but I don’t want to spoil it for you xD Go ahead and tell me now! As for your recommendations I actually started both of those a while ago, but then there’s been a huge lack of updates. I’m impatient. Really liked Blood Parade though.

          • BlackBriar says:

Thanks for the information about Bloody Cross having so many chapters because that makes telling this even sweeter. I saw a post on seventhstyle.com that’s now become more than a year old saying the manga has got a greenlight to be animated: http://seventhstyle.com/2011/05/01/bloody-cross-with-gothic-bloody-d-cups/ You couldn’t believe how happy I was. Since then, I’ve been searching around for more info regarding the subject.

I’m glad you told me about the number of chapters Bloody Cross has. They can make about a 24 episode series. The Shiki manga had a total of 41 chapters which was able to crunch out 22 episodes and 2 OVAs. So cross your fingers and hope it comes true.

I forgot to mention the Yougen no Chi manga. It’s really interesting. Yeah, I know what you mean. I get impatient for more everytime another chapter comes along. In mangas like Bloody Cross, Blood Parade and Crime Zone, it seems the badasses are these awesome vampire girls. LOL. Is it still bias the female vampires mostly get the spotlight and seductive parts of the genre (mostly the part where they bite their victim/lover)?

            • Karakuri says:

Oh? Didn’t know about that! That is exciting! … And when it comes out, I am blogging the hell out of it. Weird that there’s still no news after a year and a bit, but oh well.

Ahaha though I imagine some of them will involve multiple chapters in one episode. Some of the later ones after something big happens between Hinata and Nao are 80% dialogue.

I haven’t read Yougen no Chi at all. Noted! Ahaha I did find a few reverse harem/ shoujo manga about male vampires, but there’s a sad lack of anime like that. When Bloody Cross comes out though, I’ll consider the industry forgiven. xD

    • Foshizzel says:

Awww thanks! I like our awesome layout too <3

Yeah it will be the end of some shows, but I think a handful of series are continuing through the next season! Hooraaay! Especially for the Eureka Seven Ao fans <3

Agreed I wish Kore wa zombie ended on episode 12 or 13! Ah well what can we do? Other than waiting for news of a 3rd season or movie plans? SOOOOOON!

Indeed Toonami is back at last and YES! Steve freaking Blum for the win! I always liked his voice for every character, however the selection of Deadman Wonderland and Cashurn sins is pretty weak, but honestly their budget is really small right now...I hope they get more money and maybe they will throw something like Fairy Tail on Toonami or One Piece! I know the guy who runs the toonami/adult swim block likes One Piece.

Best mash up between writers? Probably someone that is into the series/genre? I really have the most fun with someone that is generally excited about a series like the tag posts i have done with Kara on stuff like Kore wa zombie, Rinne no Lagrange and something like Mayo Chiki? Yeah I guess that would be my answer to that! And how I choose a series? I guess I choose mine based on genre like if it contains mechs/action/comedy if a series contains one of those three I usually jump all over it! I know some of us choose our series based on different voice actors.

I wouldn't mind working on posts with others of course! Maybe the guys can get together and team up on some ecchi series or something random ;D

    • Kyokai says:

I would never go off the darker background rather work on improvements but that would be a bit of a slow process.

About Mortal Kombat, it was my favourite Nintendo game and when my office peeps decided to have a gaming tournament, I played the Xbox version to my heart’s content. The fatalities always make me OOOHHHH and I like Scorpion’s “GET OVER HERE” too! xD Seeing a slim line for Vita, I might just stick with PSP Slim still.

      • BlackBriar says:

No matter how it would take, the current background or an improvement of it will always be welcomed.

Mortal Kombat is the ideal game if you’re looking for blood and gore. Other than characters and fatalities, it’s the death traps of certain stages that make you want to see your enemy crushed, shredded, burned etc… My favorite characters are Liu Kang, Sub-Zero and Scorpion because they have badass attacks. Notably Sub-Zero’s Ice Ball, Scorpion’s Bloody Spear and Liu Kang’s Bicycle Kick. If I get a Vita, I might buy the game for it.

  3. Karakuri says:

I take back what I said. I did some soul searching and I want my giant robot to be the most obnoxious shade of pink available.

  4. Gecko says:

Haha, anaaga, you like Gackupo? I don’t really like him that much, I prefer Kaito.
Also, Karakuri, give me your voice. Now.

  5. Overcooled says:

Ah, I just got around to listening now. I’m really digging the music choices this week! Nice to hear Karakuri and anaaga on the cast. Such cute voices!

I kind of dropped HunterxHunter, but it’s tempting to pick it up again with this news…I’m always easily persuaded by good seiyuu. u_u

Time management? Learn to do things quickly!

  6. I also started to watch Hunter X hunter the moment I read this news..It’s retty entertaining and I love repeating the episodes..
