Steins;Gate MetaCast Review

Join us and unleash your inner mad scientist!

You, good sir or ma’am, are in luck for having clicked whatever godly link brought you here. This week, instead of just reading about Steins;Gate in this post, you can listen to a podcast about it as well. I rounded up Jrow and Hato to discuss our thoughts on the entirety of Steins;Gate. We discuss our favourite moments, the possibility of creating a time machine in real life, and how Mayuri is dumber than a sack of rocks. It’s shorter than a normal metaverse episode, so you have no excuse to ignore the opportunity to hear our sexy voices whisper nerdy things into your ear. Oh yeah.

Mini Summary: I wasn’t just going to leave you hanging, I’m still going to re-explain what happens in episode 24. Okarin decides that he will fool his “past” self by setting up a scene that will trick him into thinking he stumbles across a murdered Kurisu. First, he buys a meta upa himself so that Mayuri doesn’t get the one that sets off the metal detector and saves the papers from burning.  However, things go wrong, as they always do. The fake blood he brought has all dried up, leaving him with one gruesome option. He lets Kurisu’s dad stab him and then uses the knife that was JUST stuck into his belly to frighten the crazy father away. Once alone with Kurisu, he knocks her unconscious and proceeds to splatter his blood all over her like a fruit gusher. He pauses only to see his past self panic at the sight, and then has Suzu drag him to the time machine. Everything works out, and they make it to the Stein’s Gate timeline. Everyone is happy, Okarin gives pins to everyone, and it’s all good. The best part: Kurisu finds him again to thank him for saving her. Happy ending? Happy ending. El Psy Congroo.

Heeeyyy nice recording you three! Nicely done <3

I didn't enjoy that first half the D-mail "arc" it was very cool for the first five episodes or so but really got old really fast. But hey it was really cool idea to use a text to change the worlds! And that last d-mail really changed things for the first real "shocker" moment and Mayuri death thing...

I love that mad scientist line! My most favorite quote ahaha I like Okarin he was so awesome I guess he was lots of fun watching him all the time. Yeah the mad scientist version is cool but I agree the other side of him is great too.

LOL @ Hato- I wouldn’t save her Ahahaha nice! True that xD

    Okarin and Kurisu! Yes xD

The only D-mail I would send to myself SAVE SOME MONEY! For a good computer xDD Lotto numbers?! YES Good idea! <3 Wow Jrow that was a good mail!

Yeah 9/10 for me really addictive at the end for me.

The first half was reaaalllly slow, and it definitely didn’t need to be that way. So much could have been cut. I’d never want to rewatch that.

lol D-mails are all about making money. DECEIVE YOURSELF, WIN THE LOTTERY, SAVE THE WORLD!

  3. Alynn says:

Damnn. Now I really have to catch up with this series. I am so behind it is now even funny.

  4. Kyokai says:

I’m so sad I couldn’t make this but next time!

  5. Reaper says:

The end to an awesome series. It’s sad to see it go but Steins;Gate will no longer give me the heart attack as I wait for the next episode. Didn’t expect Okarin to be such a BOSS with the stab-me-and-I-use-my-own-blood-trick especially with that awesome display of…awesomeness…didn’t think Christina’s dad would take it seriously (which btw didn’t expect her dad to be HIM), though it was fulfilling to see him run shiteless, I mean, Okarin’s a mad scientist so…legit reason to run away from him 🙂 As for the ending, YAY!!!! No loose ends, no crappy other possible interpretations but a proper conclusion to a properly awesome series though I do have one last question…Okarin did meet Kurisu from the Alpha world-line but when he shifted to the Steins;Gate…did she merge with her beta self? If she did…some happy for them to be together again 🙂 Great work you guys for the coverage! Okay, Fall anime, come at us bro!

    • Overcooled says:

I thought he’d use either his own blood or Kurisu’s father’s blood, but I didn’t expect him to have to practically scoop it out of himself. Even for me, that was kind of gross. No wonder the dad ran away, I would too from someone who looks smug after getting stabbed o_o

Remember how some of the characters remember what happened in previous timelines, like how female Ruka remembered being a boy before? I think the other characters have Reading Steiner to a certain degree, especially if they’re in contact with Okarin. I don’t think they fused since each timeline is completely separate.

Thanks, Reaper! Can’t wait to tackle the fall season!

  6. Reaper says:

And…wasn’t there a movie announcement at the end? Is it going to be a whole recap of the series or some kind of sequel/gaiden? Any news for that?

    • Overcooled says:

Yes, there was! From what we could discern, it’s just a retelling of the series though…like a recap. Kind of disappointing :/

      • Joojoobees says:

I have seen somewhere that it won’t be (just) a recap. I wish I could remember where it was. The head of 5pb said they are putting out something that will have a different story. I can’t remember where I read it, but here is a link to a comment where someone else says they saw the same thing: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=326969

      • Karuroso says:

If am I right the director already said the film won’t be a retelling and neither the Darling vn adapted

        • Jrow says:

So it’ll be an original thing? Seems like such an odd movie to make given how the anime ended without any real loose ends and if there’s no more VN routes to animate.

  7. Kidd says:

OMG so much hate for Mayuri -_- She was my favourite character in the show and was much more deeper than you guys may think. She was childhood friends with Okarin and is part of the reason he bacam Hyouin Kyouma.

My favourite line was ofcourse Tuturuu~

This is one of the best shows of the year and I will definetly get it when it is released. I dont think it was Mamoru Miyanos’ best role he did do Light Yagami remember?

P.S Mayushi is not dumb -_-

    • Overcooled says:

Yep, we’re not Mayuri fans. XD Her importance to the plot is undeniable and she is a huge component of the force that pushed Okarin to keep living and pushing forward. That’s one thing. It doesn’t change the fact that she’s slow to understand things, talks like a little kid, and looks like she’s spacing out half the time. Yeah, we’re just mean.

    • Jrow says:

I could take the easy way out, but instead, I’ll defend my reasoning. I’ll start off by saying that I haven’t went back to watch Death Note since it finished airing.

I did see Death Note, and I like not only Okarin more than Light, but Miyano’s portrayal of Okarin over Light.
Light was awesome and well voiced of course, but as we talk about with Okarin’s different personalities on display, Okarin seems to be a character that has a little more range than Light/Kira, and thus allowing Miyano to display his vocal talent to give the viewer a sense of the concern/frustration/regret that Okabe was dealing with.

It all boils down to opinion at the end of the day. Light is a memorable character far beyond the 06-07 anime airing, and maybe Okarin will be lost in the shuffle after what comes out this fall plus in future years, but I like Okarin more.

Also, Mayuri has a nice rack.

  8. Moni Chan says:

YOU SONOVABITCH how would this anime end. I have no emotion about the series ending cuz im not sure how to feel. Sad, Mad, Happy

  9. snokipz says:

    Great podcast!

So happy you mentioned Tatami Galaxy, that show certainly deserves much more love. It’s in my top 10.

I’m not sure who kept on bumping their microphone during the podcast but I’d suggest perhaps purchasing a friendlier microphone that is less harsh to that sort of thing. That’s just the recording engineer inside me talking.

Keep it up, you guys rock.

    • Jrow says:

I’ll work on that mic issue with the guilty party. She’s a lovely girl, I assure you. She just uses an old Rock Band mic.

Glad you liked the cast! Tatami Galaxy is a great show. I remember when I first heard the main character talk and how fast the subtitle timing would have to go just to keep up with him.
