Gintama – 212

Gintoki getting ready for round two!

Whoa! Welcome back Gintama fans. After our amazing episode last week, this current arc gets me really excited to see the rest! So far it has stayed strong and somewhat serious rather than comical, but it fits for me. Now to sit back and see what fun tricks Pirako will try to pull during this episode and the aftermath for the rest of the cast. Onto the review, enjoy.

Plot continues with Otose being taken to the hospital with the others staying close by and losing a few days of rest. Gintoki is a bit depressed after failing to protect Otose. Tokumori visits and warns everyone that lives at the snack bar to move out, because they are going to take down the bar for good and they should leave the city. However, Gintoki manages to snap out of his depression and prepares to defend the bar.

Kada-“You are a lame character…”                     Pirako-“Say that again, I will make a garden out of your skull…”

Things start out with Kada telling Pirako no matter what she does for Jirochou, he won’t praise her or anything, which doesn’t make Pirako too happy. Well, she does seem to have some daddy issues. We then follow Otose lying in a hospital bed with everyone from the bar watching over her. Yes, I figured she wouldn’t have died that easily! She is a very tough old woman after all. Tokumori arrives to warn everyone to get packing before they get killed and leave the city forever. Yeah right, you crazy ass cross dressing dude! Gintoki walks over to them only to get yelled at by Catherine, for basically giving up on helping his friends.

Doctors- “Alright, let’s transplant this brain into a giant robot!”       Nurse- “No…just no, sir.”     Doctor- “Awww…man!”

“WHAT! WE HAVE TO MOVE?! I guess we’re going to the Bleach world then…”

Catherine-“Where’s your bankai now?!”         Gin-san- “Sorry, it’s on cooldown for a few episodes.”

Kagura- “I am hungry again guys.”                Shinpachi- “I better find a comedy series to join.”

While Gintoki sits with Otose, Katsuo pays a visit only to laugh at what happened to her, since he’s a member of Jirochou’s gang. Gintoki messes with his bandage to get some information out of him, learning the short history between Otose’s husband and Jirochou’s past. Gintoki learns they were close friends, sadly Jirochou went the route of the vigilante and the other a police officer, which ended in Jirochou killing his friend.

Gin-san- “So when you kick the bucket, can I live there free?”   Otose-“I am not dead yet…”   Gin-san-“Go towards the light!”

Gin-san- “Tag, you’re it bitch!”

Jirochou- “Man, I looked so dumb back in the day…. Good times.”

With some new information and a few words from Otose, Gintoki leaves to defend the bar alone or so he likes to think as Kagura, Shinpachi, Tama and Catherine arrive to knock some fight back into him! In the meantime Pirako has a short chat with her father in hopes of taking over the city with him so they can finally be together. Yep, it looks like someone has been having daddy issues for some time now and need more hugs!

Dark side vs the Light!

Jirochou-“Quit staring at me, you are freaking me out!”      Pirako-“I WANT A HUG, DAMN IT!”

Gin-san- “Alright, let’s go out there and own everyone!”

The following day Pirako and Tokumori arrive with his gang to take down the snack bar. The episode ends with Gintoki and the others prepared to defend and fight Tokumori and his friends despite them all being really good friends.

Gintoki did say the bar was closed! But did they listen?! Noooooo!

Tama, the best battle maid ever!

We can’t forget these two! The best sidekicks ever.

Pirako-“Yay, blood next time! I am so excite!”

Extra fun

My younger Otose can’t be this tsundere!

Kagura needs a hug! Will you give her one?

Gin-san- “Who spiked the milk? IT’S GREAT! WOOOO!! DRUNK TIME.”

Otose- “Don’t touch my stuff! I SWEAR I’LL KILL YOU ALL!”

End Thoughts:

Another great episode this week for Gintama! Even though there was only chatter and back story elements, it was still quite fun even with all the dramatic scenes. We don’t get to see Gintoki get depressed very much but I am glad he doesn’t mope around for more than one episode. Yeah, he got owned by Jirochou but that won’t stop him from getting back up to try again! Well that isn’t too original after all; Ichigo and Naruto have had plenty of moments just like this. However Gintama is a bit different, no one really has a super power, it’s more like a Rurouni Kenshin type of show where people are just tough and very skilled with weapons.

We can already assume Otose will be fine, unless she really does end up dying, which I don’t really see happening at this point. Although it would be more interesting if it did happen, after all character deaths make a series feel a bit more realistic to me. I do keep wondering about Pirako’s role in all of this, somehow I can see her joining Gintoki to take out Jirochou! But this episode changed that for me; we can tell she really wants her father’s approval for doing a good job. I did enjoy Pirako’s speech to her father about him being similar to Gintoki at one time, really nice how they are somewhat similar to each other. While one wants to protect the city and his friends and the other just wants to take over and kill anyone in his way.

I really see everyone turning on Jirochou near the end. They do have Tokumori’s kid as a hostage, so I can see his gang turning on Pirako after he fights Gintoki for a bit. They did show off several people that Gintoki has helped in the past so I can bet money those characters end up helping them defend the area. We know Kagura and Shinpachi can hold their own in a fight but I have no idea about Tama and Cathrine! Can they fight? I guess we will find out soon!

I know tama has mad power since shes a robot and all but i have no idea if catherine can fight or not. But she used to be a master thief so maybe that will come in handy somehow.
