Toaru Majutsu no Index II- 09
Cellphones and passed out girls?! Someone call the loli brigade
Hello again, not much to really report on just getting into the swing of things again. Trying to get this post up fairly quicker than my first post, after watching so much Index II in the last few days, taking screen shots from the previous episodes makes me want to draw more Index fan art! Maybe I will do that some time, well on with the review for episode 9!
When we last left Touma he was following behind Oriana keeping an eye on her, which is until she takes off running attempting to give him the slip. Thankfully he was talking to Tsuchimikado and they planned to cut her off with Stiyl’s help as well. They chase after Oriana and end up at a bus repair station. Once they step inside the repair station they begin to trigger a series of traps set by Oriana.
Dude, we are the best detectives ever!
After living through the crazy death traps, Touma and Tsuchimikado leave the station and continue to pursue the woman who sets a massive wave of stone at them which Touma touches and breaks. Sadly during that moment she successfully ditches the guys and escapes them. However Stiyl has a few tricks up his sleeve to aid them, he begins to form a circle to track the woman only to have her cast a spell called Short hand, to block him which results in Stiyl getting burned; thankfully Touma puts out the fire quickly.
Red rings of death and guys on fire “I’m on fire! Help me Tom Cruise er… Touma!”
With Stiyl’s attempt to track Oriana failing, Tsuchimikado steps up and tries his own luck at tracking her, forming a similar circle before Stiyl gets up and offers to try again. Stiyl then falls over after getting a breakthrough and Tsuchimikado also gets injured after his magic was unsuccessful; seems like he’s only a novice magician. But they figure out where the Short Hand spell will be located, learning it will be in the stadium, they spring into action.
Before they arrive, they need to look the part of two middle school students. Tsuchimikado has a bright idea to get a bit dirty to have an excuse to sneak into the nurses office to switch uniforms. The two of them try their best to blend in but Mikoto spots Touma and assumes he just wants to mess around with her. The two of them think the Short hand spell is located on a pole used in the games and want to stop it before someone activates it.
Tsuchimikado shows off his battle scars and has a bit of fun with Touma like a true bro..
During the game’s confusion the two guys begin to search for the spell, looking for a piece of paper attached to something. While they try to look the part of students they begin to search, but Mikoto doesn’t know what is going on and assumes things are strange with him. She attacks him as he saves a girl from being crushed.
Extreme sports! Bean bag basketball?! Mikoto says hello to Touma in her own special way…
While she is talking he spots a paper on the pole beside her and never really warns her about the possible danger, instead she takes things the wrong way after he says that he doesn’t want to see her get hurt. She naturally blushes madly at the comment.
He then tackles her thinking she got touched by the spell and touches her head, she blushes even more brightly. Touma calls out to Tsuchimikado after finding the paper as fake. Sadly he is a bit late and Seiri actually touches the Short Hand spell on the pole nearby, activating it. Before the magic can spread, Touma touches it and dispels it only to have her pass out and be taken away on a stretcher. The episode ends with Touma’s being angry, swearing he will find Oriana and put a stop to her attacks.
Touma, you could have said, “Hey! Don’t touch that!” but noooooo…

End thoughts:
This week’s episode was alright, not the best episode but still entertaining and fun. Nice to see Tsuchimikado getting more screen time; I always thought he was a unique character being both comical and serious when the time calls. I really liked the pace of this one too, there wasn’t much chatter and had the right amount of action. Touma’s right hand gets plenty of work this time, I think the sound effect for his power was used like 8 or 9 times alone!
Also was a bit annoyed that Touma, during the second half didn’t just yell at Mikoto to not touch the pole? Guess they just wanted to use that opportunity to confuse her. It did give me a few laughs seeing how bright red her face got! Touma did get very close to her which was great! With the ending I wonder what will happen to Seiri? I still want to see what kind of power she has, I think it has to do with super strength or something she was running with two coolers when she ran into Index and Komoe.
Wonder what Mikoto will do next episode, hope Touma tells her a bit of whats going on and lets her help him out. Not sure if Index will be doing much she seems to have fallen back into the comedy character for now anyway. She is the main character, so lets hope they expand more on her somewhere and not have her sitting on the side.
Preview
Next episode looks to be a bit more running around and looking for Oriana. Touma might be on his own since Tsuchimikado appears to be hurting and Stiyl is out as well. We also get to see Mikoto’s mom pop in again, maybe she will lend a hand? Or provide a few laughs for everyone. Going to guess Touma will do his usual way of dealing with anyone with an EPIC PUNCH!

This episode was quite enjoyable indeed, especially with mikoto and all 🙂 (sad thing she doesn’t have much role in the actual story) i was incredibly disappointed with how they illustrated hukiyose, quite different from the original 😛 Next episode is an interesting episode, so i hope JC does a better job on making it 😛

“stab sword” doesn’t need to hit the saint, all they have to do is point the sword to the saint, and the saint will drop dead 😛
Also what Oriana is carrying around is the case that contains the stab sword, not the stab sword itself XD
the reason your sub said road sign, is because Oriana is wearing an engineer uniform and for normal people(including touma), it looks like she is just carrying the road sign to put it up somewhere
Tsuchimikado realize that the road sign actually is a case that contains stab sword right away and dats why they went after Oriana
