2010 Year-Ender: Male Seiyuu

Third in line: Male Seiyuu nominations~

Uwaa~ This took me a while! But I’m glad I did the rest of the categories in one go rather than going one by one. Too time consuming! Now that we are over the music part, which gives you the first glimpse of any anime, let’s move on to the people who breathe life into anime. Yes of course, the seiyuu cast that can make or break any title. I’m not saying that a particular voice artist can make a shitty anime work but if the combination is right, amazing things happen.

Just to maintain the updates, so far I’ve posted the following and voting is still open!

First up are the male seiyuu! 2010 has sure been a good year overall and that is the reason for some really good performances. Do note that I’ve only included the titles/cast from the anime purely released this year. My selection is in no particular order as I like all of the below for different roles that they voiced. Without any further ado:

1. Hiroshi Kamiyaaan~

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Otanashi – Angel Beats!
  • Ric – Arakawa Under the Bridge /x Bridge
  • Souma – Working!!
  • Zess – Break Blade
  • Izaya – Durarara!
  • Kurata – Uraboku

Fangirl… Yes, I’m such a fangirl of his. Previous season he was all over the place, voicing in almost all the major shows. He has breathed life into so many awesome characters that mentioning them is a sheer impossibility. He can be a creepy asshole (Shinji Fate/Stay Night) to a very considerate hero (Otanashi – AB!); I don’t think you need any more explanation than this.

2. Ono Daisuke

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Shizuo – Durarara!
  • Sebastian – Kuroshitsuji II
  • Yakumo – Shinrei Tantei Yakumo
  • Gino – Giant Killing
  • Hotsuma – Uraboku
  • Satou – Working!!
  • Sion – Legend of the Legendary Heroes

I seriously had Shizuo withdrawal after Durarara!! finished airing. Of course, OD has done so many roles like Kamiyaan that no season passes without him voicing one major role another. He has been pretty busy throughout fall and demands your attention for admiration. He even sings! What else do you want?

3. Jun Fukuyama

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Ryner – Legend of the Legendary Heroes
  • Shinra – Durarara!
  • Rikuo – Even no Jikan
  • Grell – Kuroshitsuji II
  • Taro – MM!
  • Gauche – Tegami Bachi Reverse
  • Tsukumo – Uraboku
  • Takanashi – Working!!

He sure takes some weird risks. From some mainstream to even the ones you would never think about. But he is fangirled over for the same reason; there is a variety in his work that is found only in the seasoned voice actors. There is nothing but up for him.

4. Yuuichi Nakamura

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Last Samurai – Arakawa Under the Bridge
  • Hodr – Break Blade
  • Kadota – Durarara!
  • Akira – Vampire Bund
  • Kyousuke – OreImo
  • Abe – Oofuri

Ohhh, he is just too good! If you have been hanging around Metanorn you know we have a regular named baku and he can swear by the greatness of Yuuichi as Tomoya in Clannad. But he is so much more; his deep voice would actually make you believe you can trust him with anything. His recent awesomeness is Kyousuke in OreImo; damn, I wish I had a brother like him! XD

5. Takahiro Sakurai

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Claude – Kuroshitsuji II
  • Kei – Otome Youkai Zakuro
  • Yaichi – Saraiya Goyou
  • Uki – Soredemo Machi wa Matteiru
  • Luka – Uraboku
  • Tiir – Legend of the Legendary Heroes

Another one of those seasoned seiyuu, who have already made their mark in industry. I especially loved his Yaichi in Saraiya Goyou and the wackiness that is Uki in Soredemo. I mean, look at the guy, can you ever imagine as an old lady? Just proves my point of him being versatile.

6. Nobohiko Okamoto

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Eiji – Bakuman
  • Usui – Kaichou wa Maid-Sama!
  • Accelerator – Index II
  • Junichi – Megane no Kanojo
  • Tohru – Shiki
  • Ryo – Durarara!!
  • Mamezou – Zakuro (Lulz, w00t?!)

One of my personal favourite again. He started with small roles but has been climbing up the seiyuu ladder. He can make some weird noises for sure. Imagine, Accelerator being a total yandere yet an endearing main lead as Usui and Junichi. He can cry big tears and throw teenage fits as in Tohru but best of all, Mamezou from Otome Youkai Zakuro! Lulz.

7. Keiji Fujiwara

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Chief – Arakawa
  • Kinnosuke – Durarara!
  • Hisahide – Sengoku Basara 2
  • Higuchi – Tatami Galaxy
  • Tony Stark – Iron Man

This is what you call, old is gold. His voice speaks leadership and philosophy. I mean, look at some of his roles but that is not all. He can actually do a very good Tony Stark, well in Japanese terms you can say.

8. Tomokazu Sugita

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Hoshi – Arakawa Under the Bridge
  • Brooklyn – Super Robot Taisen OG
  • Keisuke – Togainu no Chi
  • Yonekuni – Sex Pistols
  • Manager – MM!
  • Moss – Tegami Bachi Reverse

Who can forget… himo himo hi-mo… Yes indeed, the guy can make things funny just by using a certain inflection. Not to mention vice versa in serious scene. He has played varied roles and there is no stopping him!

9. Atsushi Abe

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Touma – Index II
  • Moritaka – Bakuman
  • Hinata – Kaichou wa Maid-sama!
  • Takashi – B Gata H Kei

He is still in the progress stage yet have played some major roles. The current one being of Moritaka’s in Bakuman, which I presume he must have gotten after making Touma such a success. I would like to see more variety from him though.

10. Mamoru Miyano

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Masaomi – Duarara!
  • Takuto – Star Driver
  • Shusei – Uraboku

Yeah, that young guy who has done so many roles and successfully so. It’s sad to see his work decline this year but at least there was Masaomi. I hope we hear more of him but I have to agree nobody else could have done such a fabulous GINGA BISHOUNEN!!!

11. Yuuki Kaji

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Yumasaki – Durarara!
  • Finny – Kuroshitsuji II
  • Ganryuu – Otome Youkai Zakuro

He’s that guy who you would like as a plushie. I mean seriously, look at the roles he has done. There’s a reason that Bonbori and Hoozuki go crazy after their Ganryu. He was adorable as Finny and just love as Yummachi. <3

12. Junichi Suwabe

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Takashi – HOTD
  • Shuu – Kuragehime
  • Undertaker – Kuroshitsuji II
  • Jougasaki – Tatami Galaxy

Oh his deep voice… I think he was one of the big reasons I stuck around HOTD even after all that ecchi. He made Takashi a manly man, on the other hand made Shu a very scared virgin brilliantly. This guy should get more main roles!

13. Tomokazu Seki

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Chiaki – Nodame Cantabile Finale
  • Tatsumi – Giant Killing
  • Captain – Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge

You will scroll and then keep scrolling on his profile. So many awesome roles; however, this year he really shone with his Tatsumi in Giant Killing, which was simply brilliant. There’s a reason that he can be called the main guy who had the series on his shoulders. Not to mention Chiaki in Nodame Cantabile, the guy you love and hate.

14. Takehito Koyasu

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Sister – Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge
  • Hinamori – Kuragehime
  • Takashiro – Uraboku
  • JK – Occult Academy

SISTAH, I LOVE YOU! Oh man, you see how difficult it was for me to make this list? I just like too many seiyuu! He needs a main or some awesome side-character role because well, he is that awesome.

15. Satoshi Hino

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Takagi – Bakuman
  • Riken – Otome Youkai Zakuro
  • Luke – Legend of the Legendary Heroes

Oh Takagi, you are so good. But wait, Hino has voiced Riken as well who is a man of very few words. I could not have guess the same guy was behind both of these totally opposite characters. But yeah, watch out for this guy. He can go big.

16. Ishida Akira

Notable roles in 2010:

  • Mysterious boy –Angel Beats!
  • Hanbei – Sengoku Basara 2
  • Head – Star Driver
  • Kanata – Uraboku

He does gay porn… Lol, which voice actor doesn’t btw? This guy has been around and done major to very small roles but has such a distinct and smexy voice that you could recognize if you paid enough attention.

Special Mentions! I couldn’t nominate all of them but hey, some are really good even if they are a bit green or too old. XD

  • Shintarou Asanuma for Watashi – Tatami Galaxy, Tarou – Ookami-san and Tsuda – Seitokai Yakuindomo. I loved his superfast Watashi, which seiyuu do you know can do that in a breeze?
  • Souchirou Hoshi for Yukimura – Sengoku Basara 2 and Rygart – Break Blade. Manly man, yeah!
  • Hiro Shimono for Keima – TWGOK and Haruka – Yosuga no Sora. God of harems. 0.0
  • Yoshimasa Hosoya as Shichika in Katanagatari. He needs more roles! I can’t wait to hear him in Level-E.
  • Tomoaki Maeno for Tachibana in Amagami SS. Give some more harems to this one.
  • Michael Rivas for TK – Angel Beats! and Eng Director – Amagami SS. Get chance and luck!
  • Nobuyuki Himaya for Kouta – HOTD, Johnny – Tatami and Madara – Bleach. I just love his war cries. Too good!
  • Namikawa Daisuke for Masa – Saraiya Goyou. He needs more roles, he was so active last year! D:
  • Kazuya Nakai for Date – Sengoku Basara 2, Senkichi – Saraiya Goyou and Jiggy Pepper – Tegami Bachi Reverse. Are you READY GUYZ?! PUT YA GUNS ON!
  • Shiki Seiyuu SPAM – because ‘tis brilliant!
    • Kouki Uchiyama for Natsuno
    • Tooru Okawa for Ozaki
    • Kazuyuki Tukutsu for Muroi
    • Wataru Takagi for Tatsumi

KAMIYAN~~! KAMIYAN~~! Recently every show I watch exept Shiki and Togainu includes him~~ His epic “ah”‘s haunt me at night.
OnoD – ah, “Yes, me Lo-do” and “himo himo” You should learn english cause sometimes Sebastians is hurting my ears XD

Miyano – Takuto is one of the most brilliant voiceacting I’ve ever heard. I just can’t belive how natural the voice is, and all those little tones… it’s funny how Miyano is well known for being Light and yet is God in comedy roles.

Sugita – another seyjiuu that haunts me. But I don’t mind, every role he has goes flawless.

Okamoto – a new name to remember. Some voiceacting that stey in your memory. *check up Mamozu on MAL* XDDDDD the hell is this?! (also he’s cute! *____*)

I think Miyano Mamoru is too busy with his career as a singer so he is only cast voice little character in this year. Look this year he releases his second album, fifth single and doing a tour. And I think many people vote for Ono Daisuke because his succes role as Sebastian.

I’m kinda sqealing silently cheering to myself when I saw that Ono Daisuke was getting the most votes as of now. He’s like my favourite male seiyuu ever. (Not just because I’m a Kuroshitsuji fanatic either. I got Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2 as a gift for Christmas. Koizumi Itsuki. ‘Nuff said.) I would doubly vote for him if I could… But I also voted for Fukuyama Jun (Grell), Sawabe Junichi (‘Taker), and Kaji Yuki (Finni) as well. KSS overload, am I right?

  11. izumisekiya says:

My vote goes to Ishida Akira. Love him.
