Luck and Lame

LucknLogic (7)

A BL would have been more interesting…

Instead of going through all the episodes that I missed we might as well talk about Olga and lucifer since they became the main focus of the final four episodes. I was happy that I got my wish with Olga FINALLY getting to partner up with Lucifer; however it was revealed in the final episode that Lucifer was just using Olga from the start of their team up, but of course Lucifer played off of Olga’s desires to become powerful and speaking of gaining new powers. Things got even crazier when Olga finally fused with Lucifer which gave him the power to control gravity, create black holes and shoot stars? Although I like his unique power set, but I will say that I did not really care for his Olga’s new S&M look or Yoshichika’s wedding dress when he finally got permission to use Overtrance?! What? The one thing that was cool with their ultimate forms it gave Yoshichika a freaking lance! I figured he would end up using two shields at the end. So did anyone else expect the others to also activate their Overtrance forms as well? I kind of figured they would have done that for the final boss fight, but NOPE! Everything was settled with the two fighting dudes punching each other over and over again with a lame fist fight…yeah…that was some final battle…and what about Yoshichika losing all of his damn memories at the end? Honestly things should have reversed with Olga loosing his memories and Yoshichika loosing his powers! Then again if things went that way then we probably wouldn’t have had that “romance” scene between Yoshichika and Athena at the end? Or were they even that romantically involved with each other? Personally I don’t really care if they were because honestly I found both “main” characters to be boring.

Final Thoughts

Overall Luck and Logic started off with a interesting idea using various gods from all over the world and pairing them with a human via fusion much like Vivdred Operation and Dragon Ball Z, but not as fun? One of my biggest issues with this series is the character themed episodes at the start! Why did they dedicate so much time to the other characters? Couldn’t they have just combined episodes and focus on two characters at once? I guess this might be a case of having too many characters? They could have easily taken out Mana, Chloe or Yurine and things would have still been fine. So yeah the characters and the story wasn’t that great and add in all all the dumb stuff involving Olga constantly boasting about being such a great and powerful fighter when in reality he wasn’t made me laugh! I swear why did the writers think that was cool? I know that was kinda the point in his character, but wow it always made me roll my eyes! And to make matters worse once Olga got powers it turned him the main villain? What? That was easily the worst and yes I know Lucifer can’t possibly fight on his own so of course somebody would have to take Olga’s spot right? Imagine if it was Yukari instead? Speaking of that girl it’s kinda sad when I found Yukari to the best character of the series because she generally cares about everyone and she is like at the very bottom as far as support characters go…so yeah…what did you think of Luck and Logic?

Another Luck and Logic anime is being made, and will also feature the Luck and Logic Club shorts aired before each episode. It’s not explained if the new anime is a sequel or brand new plot.

Definitely a case of the anime being a glorified commercial for the card games – anime sales are likely irrelevant to the producers.

    • Highway says:

Well, as we’ve heard, the anime sales may be irrelevant to the owners of the card game, but it’s not irrelevant to the anime production company. Even if they are paid by the card game company, it’s likely that it’s not really at cost. So the anime producers do need some disc sales to make up their costs, or even make some profit.

      • zztop says:

I was referring to the card game owners here. But you have a point; the anime staff needed to do a better job.

        • Highway says:

Again making excuses for Doga Kobo, we don’t really know what they were presented with in getting the show produced. Perhaps they were required to get to the end of the story, or they were required to show all of the character episodes, instead of cutting someone out to give, say, Veronica’s story or Athena and Yoshichika more time. I think it wasn’t a bad show for what it was, but that I can see where it could have been better with a few changes.

          • Highway says:

And I’ll add that I don’t think that every show can be made better with a few small changes, or just minor focus differences. Momo Kyun Sword isn’t going to get better, anyhow. Seraph of the End would need to rework every character to act like a person instead of a plot slider. Aldnoah/Zero would need to get rid of Slaine entirely. Blade Dance would need more of a plot than a series of cliches.

But a show like Luck and Logic, I think it had some interesting ideas and characters, it just didn’t really execute very well.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I think that is a short series? Either way I’m done with Luck and Logic lol

I think overall I liked Luck and Logic, but they definitely took some shortcuts and it ended up hurting the show. The character episodes were definitely the low point, especially Veronica’s stuck in halfway through the season. There were also some really stupid things in the fights with Olga / Lucifer, like “I’ve figured out his weakness, he can only use the staff for offense or defense at one time!” “HaHA! How about if I have TWO staves!” And then they end up in a punching battle at the end of their big confrontation. The fighting really was the low point of the series.

But I thought the high point, such as it was, was the limited world-building and character building outside of the focus episodes. I really enjoyed that “birthday party” episode, because it was much less paint-by-numbers. And I didn’t mind the ending, although I’d have liked to see a little more overt confession from Yoshichika or Athena, or him recover his memory card.

By the way, the ‘searching for Logic Cards’ thing just struck me as idiotic. They just wander around to see if they can find it under a rock or on top of a building or something? How are there not these logic cards just laying around?

I love the concept of gods and humans fusing together to save the world! I kinda went into Luck and Logic at the start thinking it might play more on the “magical girl” side aka taking out monsters weekly, but nooooopeeee it became character focused so fast! I didn’t care for half of the cast…

Yeah the Bday episode was pretty good!

LOL agreed I think that part is also p dumb as well.

      • BlackBriar says:

I love the concept of gods and humans fusing together to save the world!

That’s similar to the concept in the third entry to the Digimon franchise, Digimon Tamers, where the humans would fuse with their Digimon partners to reach their strongest form.

  3. skylion says:

…yeah, needs more flying sneks. You can’t go wrong with sneks.

  4. HannoX says:

Well, it wasn’t a train wreck and overall I was mildly entertained. But main pair Yoshichika and Athena were boring! Not a good thing.

It would have been a different show, and probably a better one, if the main pair had been Yukari and Quetzi. They were cute and fun and the most interesting pair. It would have been fun to see more of Quetzi insisting Yukari is his priestess and her responses.

    • Highway says:

I thought there was a bit of something there with Yoshichika and Athena, but they never gave it the time to develop the way I’d have preferred. As such, they had their complex characters just not be that interesting, because we didn’t get to see any depth. I have, in my head, an interesting bit of character for both of them, but that’s not what was presented in the show.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I just didn’t find the two of them interesting and their half-assed romance wasn’t even that great…

Agreed! Yukari and Quetzi were the best pair and seeing how they got teamed up was great! The other characters not so much they kinda just happened to bump into each other and were instant friends I guess?

    • BlackBriar says:

Cute hardly sells, if at all, in a show that is supposed to center around conflict. That would only work best in a genre better suited for it. Like you said, it would’ve been a different show if that route was taken. But then that would defeat the purpose Luck & Logic already has.

      • HannoX says:

Cute can work in a battle show. What do you think most magical girl shows are? Nobody would say Cardcaptor Sakura for example isn’t cute and it centers around capturing the Clow cards which requires battles.

However, I’ll grant that Luck & Logic was trying to take the all serious tack and cute wouldn’t have worked so well unless the writing was very good.

        • skylion says:

Maybe they could do a cute spin off show. Yukari and Quetzy and all the World Wide Snakes. It’s amazing how different mythologies treat the serpent. In some it’s evil incarnate, in other it’s a creator and/or destroyer, and in some a healer. A Satan and Eve pairing is rife for comedy and drama.

        • BlackBriar says:

My memory of watching any magical girl shows is scarce because most tend to be so over-the-top in their cuteness that it takes me out of the show when the story is trying to be serious. The end result is me choosing to forget.

        • Foshizzel says:

CCS was p darn cute and had a lot of intense moments! I’ll even throw in past and present seasons of precure which has lots of cute designs in as well with action scenes.

  5. HannoX says:

    Spammy.

  6. BlackBriar says:

Overall, Luck & Logic makes for a passable series. So-so in its attempt to balancing out character focus while maintaining the show’s story. Not much else to say since there was never the feeling things would get far. Which is why it’s a surprising development Luck & Logic is getting a continuation.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah the character stuff just wasn’t there for me especially with the “main characters” I didn’t really feel anything for them and their issues.

Far as I can tell Luck and Logic will continue on with the short spinoff series not this one, but hey even if there was another season I don’t think ill be watching anyway.
