Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo – 06

KonoSuba - between a rock and a hard place

“Kazuma, I’m already excited by fighting him! You don’t need to add to it by insulting me!”

winter15-highw It’s a big battle for our party, but they may have to get it done without help.

“If the mountain won’t come to Mohammed…”

KonoSuba - she can't even whistle

I like that she can’t even whistle innocently

So Dullahan showed back up last time, and he’s not pleased that Megumin and her (remaining) friends blew him off. He even gets himself quite worked up into a lather about how awful they are because Megumin is still blowing up the castle every day. That’s news to Kazuma, who hasn’t been going with her, since she enlisted Aqua’s help with it (probably because she knew Kazuma would not help her). But Megumin can’t help it: Once you’ve gotten used to blowing up something big and stiff and strong like a castle, you just can’t go back to empty fields… Anyway, Aqua’s not happy with the Dullahan either, so she was happy to help.

KonoSuba - Mou!

“Geez, you guuuuyyys! Come on!”

But that’s not all Beldia the Dullahan has problems with. I mean, they just let Darkness die, right? They didn’t even bother to come try to prevent her death, or avenge her death, or even apparently care about her at all. That’s terrible, what kind of honor is that? What kind of friends are… wait, what? She’s alive? Oh, come on! You guuuuuuys! Well, fine! You can fight my entire undead army! Except that Megumin gets the chance to blow them all up in one shot, earning the “Crazy Magic Girl” at least some sort of backhanded applause from the townsfolk.

KonoSuba - Uh oh, her full power

Uh oh, be careful when you can see both eyes

Small Fry, Small Pond

KonoSuba - different reactions to the oncoming horde

I’ll never get tired of Darkness’ face like that

The real point of the fight is that even a bunch of one-note low-levels can end up being an effective fighting force, even if it is through sheer luck. But when one of those low-levels has a luck score off the charts, then they can almost count on sheer luck when they need it. When Verdia’s weakness is water, the product of the lowest level spell, he’s going to run into trouble, especially when one of them is the fickle goddess Aqua. With a whole party effort, they manage to douse him thoroughly, weakening him enough for Kazuma to steal… his head. Which then allows Aqua to finish him off.

KonoSuba - Don't call me a damegami!

“Don’t call me a damegami!”

Too bad that their big reward just so happened to be a little less than the big cost to repair the walls that Aqua flooded and knocked down. It’s like The Rockford Files, where you can’t win for losing. And I don’t think that it was just coincidence that their reward was just below what the bill was, even if they didn’t have to contribute everything to rebuilding the town. But at least there’s no loss of life, even if Darkness mourned the other guys who were killed by Beldia, before Aqua resurrected them. And as a bonus, they felt bad about making fun of her.

KonoSuba - oh no you don't

Oh you’re not going anywhere, big boy

Well, Kazuma doesn’t get to live his life of leisure. But he does have a renewed fervor to kill off the Demon King and go home. I think he’ll find out he likes this life a little more than he thinks, tho. And hopefully we get more fun to watch. This did feel like the end of a story, although we had heard a few weeks ago that they were going pretty slowly through the first LN. But even if it’s the end of a volume, hopefully it won’t fall off in quality of humor like Shimoneta did.

We had heard a few weeks ago that they were going pretty slowly through the first LN.

They’ve fully adapted Vol 1 already.
There’s also an LN spinoff about Megumin’s adventures before she met Kazuma, but that hasn’t been translated yet.

  2. ProtoSovereign says:

Yeah I hope they translate the spin off, somebody already did the prologue and chapter 1 of the spinoff but that’s all and they aren’t really hosting it anywhere atm. As you guessed this ep was the end of Vol 1. If the preview at the end of the ep was any indication and my memory of Vol 2 not too swiss cheesy the next ep (vol 2’s start) is going to be hilarious 😀

  3. FVA says:

apparently there is rumors that the show got extended 12 episodes. please be true for that certain character in the op XD.

    • Highway says:

I would find it unlikely that a show would be just extended through the next cour, especially halfway through the current one. I think it much more likely that they’ll firm up a second series for later in the year.

      • FVA says:

Sorry i meant it got one more episodes making it 12 episodes from the originally plan 11

Oh, this show loves to deliver. I was almost literally shouting “Steal it’s HEAD. IT’S HEEEEEEAD!!!!” at my television screen.

    • ProtoSovereign says:

Dullahans these days really need to get their act together (or more specifically their heads need to be kept safe). Now that you’ve mentioned it Celty happens to be another unfortunate Dullahan that’s had their head stolen.

      • Highway says:

Well, there is that saying “You’d lose your head if it wasn’t attached.” Most people don’t have their disadvantage for that, so it’s certainly not surprising that they lose track of it sometimes.

I love that although everyone in the party is weird as hell, they still can pull of miraculous wins like this. Okay, maybe it’s not so miraculous with Megumin’s crazy-strong explosion spell and Aqua being a goddess. Anyways, it’s cool to see flashes of…competence..amongst the derp. It was a great battle!

But of course, I love them the most for being such a handful all the time.

    • Highway says:

Well, one of the things that I really like about it is that they don’t actually call them derpy. It’s more that they all have just weirdo personalities that make them incompatible with the norms. Megumin and Kazuma are probably the two normalest people in the group, and one’s a hikki-NEET (Aqua’s best line so far) and the other is a stupid strong stubborn demon who doesn’t want to learn any other spells. I had thought early on that they were going to convince Megumin to learn some other spells, but now I don’t think they will, they’ll just work around her self-imposed restriction. Aqua’s actually the biggest liability for the party because she’s just so dumb.

I really liked the way that the other guys actually felt bad for making fun of Darkness when they realized that they actually hurt her feelings.
