Classroom ☆ Crisis – 11

classcrisis 11-10

One of them has a wrench in their pocket….

I’ll keep it short and sweet…

Engine Grease and Dirty Gloves

I said in a comment last week that I felt that Nagisa’s long standing badass attitude was nothing more than a mask, and that I would be happy to see that facade crack, leaving us with the character underneath. Leave it to the mechanic and the ace teacher to be there when the illusion falls away; and to do more than a little in helping it plummet. One with patience, the other with insistence in not taking this kid’s crap.

I’ve been wrong about potential shipping before, and I’ve admitted to being wrong on this count. Having said that, I’m happy it progressed the way it did. These two felt natural all along, and the early chemistry they had worked a delicious and potent spark. Just add some engine grease…It loosed the bolts holding that mask so tightly to Nagisa’s face, and what Mizuki saw in him, all along, was at last laid bare. It was a good cry.

It was a tough trial losing to his Eldest Brother. But it was necessary. All the garbage he accumulated around himself is free to go to the burnable trash bin. He tried to walk as a villain, making everyone around him part of his plan to be the bad guy doing bad guy things. But not when Eldest Brother spilled all the marbles. When you no longer have to act, who do you get to be? If it’s someone that Mizuki loves, and that Angelina admires, then that person isn’t such a bad guy after all. And really, Eldest Brother just wants him to put his hard earned skills to the best possible use. Family lines? Is this Westeros? Plus he gets to work on future A-TEC plans with Saito. He told the class early on to take it on the chin and keep fighting. Looks like he listened to himself.

classcrisis 11-8

Somehow, these two deserve each other…

I pretty much talked about what I wanted to, and I’m sure plenty will want to comment on the romance in bloom. About the only knock I’ll give (and really the knocks I could give…) it is a halfsie. I’ll wait until the plan can fully explain itself next episode. Suffice it to say, I think Kizuhisa’s war plans are pretty badly written at this point. Give up rockets and dive full into warfare and weapons? Really? In space? Where you were a leader in spacecraft already? In space? Where you’ll fight space wars? Like I said, I’ll give it time to unpack itself, as I don’t want to flog the proverbial horse just yet….

…except for this cliched crap….this gets a floggin’…

Well, it never ceases to get interesting in this series. On the one hand, I can understand where Kazuhisa is coming from with his project proposal for what’s to come in the future. On the other hand, it’s just going to become a spark for an inevitable conflict that will last who knows how long. All he’d do is escalate before things even get that close. I find myself not resenting him as much as I should. The guy knows talent when he sees it and he acknowledged Nagisa despite knowing his true origins.

About time Nagisa and Mizuki got cozy. It was written all over them both. Given Mizuki’s cheerful throughout the series, it’s safe to say she wore him down.

I would’ve said this episode was great, it was for the most part, but what happened at the very end left a sour taste in the mouth. I really, really didn’t want to see that sickening bastard Yuuji again and especially this late when we’re near the end of the story. The reveal made my skin crawl. “Are you serious?” was the thought that immediately ran through my mind.

Well, as you can tell by my tone with the second to last screenshot caption, I’m not a huge fan of that reveal either. It’s not that a surprise shouldn’t be in order or a twist before the final episode. But that was just so cliched and indelicately pulled…Yuuji was a comically stupid villain from episode one, so this shouldn’t be all that surprising. I just wish writers would surprise me by not picking at such low-hanging fruit..

I always find the Men/Women split a bit more interesting than I should. ANN lists, or lists such as this, are pretty whimsical to start with, so I give them very little credit. But the almost bi-polar level of Owarimonogatari anticipation between the two genders just makes me giggle a bit…it’s such an odd irony. Not to mention Seraph.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

I actually am expecting nothing on the list(s).

  3. Di Gi Kazune says:

I find the lack of exploding rockets disappointing. KSP is now my standard for space programs. Now that the KSS is near completion, time for a Munbase.

    • skylion says:

Oh! I so find the lack of any rockets disappointing. I’d settle for the Raccoon version, but he hates being called that. Besides, he’s in a different universe…

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

I will await for… KSP: The Anime. I cannot begin to imagine the masses of exploding objects.

        • skylion says:

Well, I pretty much watch Hank Green play it…that’s almost like anime. But there are more skillful vids out there on the YouTubes, including ones played by actual space agency astronauts…

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

I like the Scott Manley ones because they were the first ones I started on. It’s not a perfect simulator but it is interesting for people who enjoy… Physics. 😛

            • skylion says:

While I enjoy Physics, I could never eat a whole one. But isn’t that the guy that thrilled at being able to tweak the physics of the game? Fudging it enough to burn rockets across the Kerbal solar system and use the planets as giant bumpers? Or am I thinking of someone else?

But for my money, I also enjoyed the ones with the Advanced stuff; turning it from a science simulator to a science-fiction simulator…

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

Will get there some day. Right now, basics first.

Man…..Classroom Crisis keeps surprising me at every turn!

Nagisa was brought to his lowest point this episode. It turns out his “father” and elder “brother” weren’t fools at all and knew about the switch all along, but they desired fake Nagisa’s skills more, and so they really didn’t care. However, thankfully, they still don’t seem to know about Iris.

Nagisa ended up playing into his brother’s hands this whole time and didn’t even know it, and it was all in a plot to start having military contracts, when their monopoly on mining ends up sparking a full scale war.

I loved Nagisa’s breakdown with Mizuki and that confession and kiss was one of the sweetest moments in the series. Though Iris/Nagisa seems to be having some problems with it.

But that darn cliffhanger ending! Yuji just went nuts and knifed his little brother! He truly is the dumbest of the Kiryuus. But just as Nagisa has a new plan and he’s getting a relationship off the ground with Mizuki, the guy comes in a guts him?!

As for the eldest brother, I honestly don’t see him as a sympathetic character at all. He’s done nothing to gain my sympathy. Now, if you’re saying that he does have a realistic vision of the world? Than yes, I can agree with that. I can also agree with his business plan. However, I also know that he’s done some really nasty things to get what he wants done. He’s stepped over that line that Nagisa hasn’t crossed yet. He’s a man with no morals, and both Nagisa and Iris would have to be always watching their backs as long as he’s in power.

This is a guy who had no problem with what his father did by murdering a bunch of people just to kidnap his “son” and forcefully adopt him. He’s a man who doesn’t care who he has to step on to get his way, a dark, deadly version of Nagisa, if you will. And he’s a guy who doesn’t really think out the box either. His company has drained the asteroid belt of resources and this will cause friction that will start a war that he will then continue to make money off of by building war machines. However, there is an easy solution. This world already has the capability to travel to any planet in the solar system with ease, it wouldn’t take much to create a vehicle that can travel outside of it and find new resources. And the creation of such a new vehicle is what A-TEC could try to accomplish, creating an alternative to war and war machines.

The elder brother automatically thought of war and the benefits, but he didn’t want to take the time to go the extra mile and think of finding other resources somewhere else and the benefits of that.

    • skylion says:

Yep, Kizuhisa, owns that game. I wouldn’t classify him as sympathetic either. Not unreasonable is perfectly fine. If it turns out he was responsible for creating the unrest in the mines in the first place, or even worse, if he has artificially created the resource problem, then we can graduate him to full Evil Bastard status.

But, as you mention, with the new plan that Nagisa is brewing up for A-TEC, and what the rest of that means, I’ll wait til the next episode. As is, most of it seems shaky.

Yuuji was a cheap villain, and I didn’t think they would cheapen him any further as to use him to manufacture an awful drama point.

But I wouldn’t count anyone out yet. Iris managed to survive a crash, I think her childhood friend can handle a knife. I always characterized Iris as adrift, and that Mizuki was her anchor. Just cause she got some kissy time, doesn’t mean that changes.
