Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma✫Illya 2wei Herz! – 4ierte

2weiherz! 4-7

Nothing wrong with girls having fun!

Welcome to Magical Girl Safari! We here at Metanorn would like to remind our guests to keep their hands and feet in the ride at all times, also please make sure to secure all possession, valuables, and Tattsun’s. No flash photography is allowed, and please don’t feed the lions….

2weiherz! 4-1

Don’t over-explain it to the Illya…

Well, they gave us a bit of a tease in that cold open. Here we thought that this anime original episode would have some hardcore magical girl action! But, it was all just set up and preparation for the action to come. That doesn’t mean this skimped on some details. All three of our main characters provided just a touch of mild foreshadowing here. From Illya’s ineffectual looking strike,  to Kuro’s rote observation, and Miyu’s straightforward effectivness, these little tidbits are there to be built upon later. Rin and Luvia even played much the same style of part. Of course Ruby cannot help but stump the Ilya, bringing back to mind her “Don’t Think! Imasine!” line from the first series.

Fearsome Animal Park!

2weiherz! 4-2

Someone needs to switch her to decaf….

But, in all honesty there isn’t anything to report that’s big and new. That’s one of the drawbacks about writing for slice of life style shows. What happened is what happened, and that is just the way it is. But for all that, they didn’t skimp on exactly what those types of shows do very well. The chief concern is having fun, and that they did. It’s funny, when the gang were about run down from some good hard play, I felt roughly the same, and in a good way. It’s always charming to see kids at play. Second, is giving us a light hearted touch for how the character’s feel in certain moments.

2weiherz! 4-11

Parade Phantasm!

But as I mentioned previously, the story underscored some good character traits. Miyu’s analytical mind was put to the test, having to come to grips with the obvious physics behind amusement park rides and it’s effects on the her; and she was a moth to the flame for every single ride. And again, another point where her brain outclassed Illya’s. She was also at the fundamental heart of the episode in locating Illya’s missing charm. Now this wasn’t just a good deed for a good friend, as all of the gang were helping to locate the missing item. It had to be Miyu that found it; it’s connected to Shirou after all, and that will become important later. Of course there is Tattsun, but more on that later…

If Mama is suspicious….

We do get a bit of fun here and there as far as the larger Fate universe is concerned. We get a call-back to Iris’s love for Kiritsugu, and how they didn’t exactly have time for a weddin. Why that had to pull her away from the plot?…Well… Caren-sempai makes a sudden and unexpected return, but given her predilection to the painful tears of children, working a lost child center is exactly where you would find her. But she’s giving off all the wrong kind of vibes towards the end, and Mama Iris is not the least bit happy about her being around the kids. Why? Show ▼

Best to keep tab on this one, Mama.

…cause she’s not above keeping tabs on them

Tattsun’s Wild Ride

2weiherz! 4-4

You must be this tall to ride this ride….that’s 3 foot 11 inches for all you base twelve countries…

Gotta have Heart

2weiherz! 4-23

Lion? Try Taiga! No, not that Taiga, the shorter one…

…and of course there has to be the heart of the show. Again, Miyu gets to show of some tactical thought in addition to some magical girl panache. I like that they had to put a limit on her search, as it allowed them to focus on real problem solving and use magic as just one more tool to for the cause. This will come in handy later on down the line. I also love how they still use magical girl abilities in secret as well, as you can see them with the hair decs they were during the Trance.

2weiherz! 4-26

Allies, or….

Lions, and Tattsun’s, and Charms! Oh My! Well, that was a good bit of fun. I respect that Prisma Illya is able to do a variety of themes and genres. It’s a magical girl show, but it doesn’t forget to focus on the girl part of the equation, and it does so in a way that’s both comfortable and fresh. For many fans of -both past and current –  the franchise this may be getting a bit long in the tooth. For my money it’s doing just fine. I’m spoiled for the plot after all, so I know what is coming. I, for one of many, didn’t expect this many SoL stations on the train ride to the hardcore magical girl action, but I’ve enjoyed what they have put together so far. They’ve got a good stable of writer’s that know natural interaction and comedy. It’s fun while it lasts, and it won’t last forever. Cause….

Next Time

2weiherz! 4-27

…it will last at least one more episode….Oh, Ilya, comfortable with any other magical girl show but your own…

Prelude: Remember: Safety first! Even magical girls need to wear hardhats at a construction site! (Hey… given their resilience, falling objects wouldn’t be much of an issue compared to a knock by Beserker/Bazett…)

So much Saberlion-gao! Saber is also working in the park as announcer since there is no Grail War in this Nasuverse (she needs to feed her enormous apettite).

I should have realised that it had to be Bazett in the kigurumi. Working part-time jobs, monstrous abilities, etc2… There is also a serious lack of Mama Iri in your post! She’s being one of the girls this week!

Also XD Miyu. Going through the physics on the rides and the ending up @_@. XD

Anyone who has watched Carnival Phantasm should understand why the pairing of Caren and Bazett is amusing. *snickers* Mama Iri vs Caren is like that because Show ▼

Whilst this has gone on a tangent to the main story, and I for one am not a filler-type of person, it DOES make sense as to what the girls did during summer (like buying Yaoi H-doujin at Comima – hey how DID underaged girls buy Hentai…), going to amusement parks and enjoying Obon. The manga just cuts from the beach to the tunnel. So this filler arc does make its justification.

I read the following tidbits: Apparently Prisma Illya is effectively the Illya Route of FSN according to our Lord Nasu. So technically it is canon in the Nasuverse. Also Hiroyama tweeted during UBW15: “This is why I wrote Prisma Illya.”

PS: Caren’s choice of cars is highly approved! Classic Beetle.

    PSS:

    Who ya gonna call?!

    Bazett Fraga McRemitz.

PSSS: At least next week they are wearing proper yukatas instead of the lewd short versions that seem to be commonplace in shows these days.

    • skylion says:

      Sorry, here you go.

So this filler arc does make its justification.

I’ll admit some of my frustration in wanting more magical girl in my magical girl show. But I think, even without justification, that the filler speaks for itself. It’s good without even trying that hard; this crew has some good writers.

Hiroyama is pretty decent storyteller. When it comes to 3rei I think he did a good job simplifying, but not dumbing down, alot of the Nasuverse he plays with. RE: UBW 15. Yeah, he knows what the real story is!

As for how they bought doujinshi, hell who let’s the draw the stuff?!

I kinda like the sporty short yukata, but like Caren’s car, you have to abide by the classics. Classy girls in classy clothes.

  2. Di Gi Kazune says:

Also, the music in the background are all the OP/EDs from the previous seasons.

Irisviel and her driving, even in a gokart.

  3. BlackBriar says:

Passable episode but I’d have preferred more focus on the main plot surrounding the eighth card that gave reason to this season at all. These distractions are amusing in their own right but are making things deviate steadily.

I had a feeling that was Bazett in the lion suit. That superhuman feat just to get a drifting balloon gave her away immensely.

    • skylion says:

I will say that the SoL elements this series have been a lot more focused, and a lot less random than last series. But, just like you, I feel the deviation, but given our tastes, I feel it much less…especially since this is some good SoL…

      • BlackBriar says:

Indeed. As you already know, the slice of life genre isn’t my cup of tea. So I’m hoping that section gets done with soon and moves on to something actually progressive. My expectations are on the explanation behind the eighth card’s existence.

        • skylion says:

I know it doesn’t feed the hungry belly, so to speak, right now, but 3rei will get progressive. I think the last five episodes of Herz! will build up momentum for that. Seeing as how the magical girl genre has feet in both action and girl’s life areas, they have to leave room for it here at the beginning…

          • BlackBriar says:

Tsk… Meaning we’d most likely have to wait another Summer just to see the events unfold. No doubt you’ve seen the pattern with the Prisma Illya seasons. Damn it!!

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

              Ends on a cliffhanger!
              Show ▼

            • skylion says:

Oh, no, I didn’t mean to leave that impression! No, this series should kick into high gear come episode six, and then really floor it and thunder to a conclusion. Then next summer will see them embroiled in the Fate world and even higher kickassery. But as of now, I’m just as stumped as everyone else with the filler/original material these past two or three episodes. I mean, I know combat can go by fast and not eat up as much time as exposition filled episodes. But I thought they would have needed at least 7 episodes to cover what the manga shows. But then, I’m just a fan like everyone else…

            • skylion says:

Well I kinda see it as Show ▼

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

It doesn’t matter which combination because it all goes down the same road: The Harem Route.

I believe the studio and writers realised that 2wei is unbalanced in terms of pacing since last year; essentially what I have discussed before. Even a normal 13 episode season is really cutting it close. Anyway, I’m not complaining as I’m getting my dose of LOLi cute girls doing normal things. >_> I think skylion would agree? 🙂

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

          Read manga.

          • BlackBriar says:

Hmmm… I’m lacking the motivation to do that. Preference goes to watching things happening before my eyes with animation. It depends on what’s worth reading.

            • skylion says:

Kiroyama is a pretty darn good mangaka. His illustrations started off good and then got great, and of all the Fate related material out there, he has a knack for balancing character, exposition, and action. I mean just comparing some bits that will come up in 3rei to, say, the last big arc in UBW, he wins the Best Writer Bowl. He has a much better take on Shirou that is for darn sure…

EDIT: FYI, he is a bit more direct with the LOLiservice than the anime. It’s not especially more explicit…but it does have a non-television broadcast standard to it…as manga is wont to do…

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

I think this would be a good rallying cry for Prisma Illya: REMEMBER UBW15! We want Illya Route!

              😛

  4. Foshizzel says:

Anyone catch that Yowamushi Pedal Akira Midousuji face from Tatsuko? So goooood.

I wanted Saber to be wearing the lion costume xD

    • skylion says:

      Catch it? I posted it!

But wouldn’t that be weird with Sabre as a Class Card in this Universe wearing the lion costume. I can only take soooo much Alt Sabre…

      • BlackBriar says:

That expression is disturbing. The girl needs to see a therapist, and pronto!

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Saber is already in a lion costume. See the parade. 😛

  5. belatkuro says:

Call me when we’re out of fillerland and back to the action parts and plot. It’s interesting and all but I want to see some action already. Gonna play Grand Order in the meantime.
I did like it that they got Saber’s seiyuu, Kawasumi Ayako, to do some ‘Gao Gao’ for Saber Lion and be the announcer in the same fashion.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

You might be interested or not that some people rate Prisma Illya as #3 in the lewd anime of the season after shimoneta and prison school.

I strongly disagree. This show is pure and all about cute girls doing cute and destructive things.

      • BlackBriar says:

This show is pure and all about cute girls doing cute and destructive things.

I beg your pardon. You call erotic kissing (in graphic detail) in the past couple of episodes “pure”? I’m reluctant to see your description of naughty. 😛
