Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu – 02

Yuki-chan 02-11

Admiring her work…

It may be a bit late, or even early, but good tidings to one and all. Let’s go get some turkey…

Yuki-chan in the Club Room with a Turkey Leg

This Yuki-chan lives to grind…

Yeah, I know, she doesn’t read as much anymore. But little did you know that the game she’s playing combines the nihilist existentialism of Herman Melville with the grind capitalism of Final Fantasy; Bartelby the Sage: A Tale of Dungeon Street. In it the player realizes the inherent uselessness of grinding. If they aren’t there to do it, someone else will. But, how else are you gonna get those sweet sweet rare drops?

Needs a nudge…

So we continue from last week, with the culmination of all the hard work that Yuki-chan has been putting towards the Christmas party paying handsome dividends. We skip back a bit in the story, with Asukara being the support for Yuki’s plans, who was down in the dumps over the possible termination of the Lit Club. So with a bit of a kick in the rump, and the hoisting of bootstraps, Yuki-chan is able to get the legwork done in recruiting new members. We saw the next phase last episode, with her overcoming her shyness towards a few others, and getting the turkey as a direct result.

Embarrassing, but sweet

The rest plays into her hands, so to speak. Setting up the party was fun, and an active time for her. I go on about that, but remember, her “character” was an expositing doorstop that managed to save Kyon’s life more than a few times. And until the film, that was really it. There is no argument that this isn’t that character any more. But look at it in one light. In the original series she was, basically, a character imported from another show/genre. Same with both Mikuru and Noizomi. She easily could have been in something like Elfen Lied. Just as the other two are from a bumbling ecchi time-travel hijinks show, and a Esper program filled with bishounen receptively. It’s still great to see this character grow from the suggestions of the film, and in the passing of time, live up to those suggestions even more.

To the victor goes the spoils

Beautiful presents in beautiful wrapping

Yeah, keep this episode review short but sweet. You know, same thing as the main character. But there is something that’s really bugging me. It seems like I’m forgetting something. Well, I’m sure it will come to me later. You know how it is…

The Reappearance….

Ah, now I remember…

I had my doubts with the first episode but I’ll stick around for this moe ride. Just for Kyon goodness, I might add.
