Parasyte – 11

Parasyte-rivals

It has been mentioned that this might be one of the most expensive anime conversations

spring14-highwIs it a possible new tactic from the parasites?

A More Cutthroat World

Parasyte-Making her last mistake

Making her last mistake

Yes, the parasites seem to be banding together a bit more, and using their cooperation to mount more sophisticated and probing efforts. One example was this week’s cold open, when “Kato” was ready to leave the drunk girl alone, and not harm her… until she pulled out a hair and exposed him, although why he was with her in the first place is kind of a question. And is the number of parasites going up, or is it more that they are just everywhere in this show, because the one woman who passes by is another one. But even then, they cooperate to dispose of the body, rather than fighting.

Parasyte-A good day's work

“Ahh, that was a good day’s work”

Then there’s the attack on the yakuza. This guy is obviously a different kind of parasite, since he doesn’t need to protect the rest of his body, nor did he break human form significantly. He was also a lot less stiff, at least in the small interactions we saw. And they’ve got an organization now, and are trying for political power. What’s the goal? The one who seems to be running for Mayor didn’t seem to have much in the way of a coherent platform, at least in what we saw. And what would be the further goal of Parasites being in political power? It’s not that it’s hard to find victims, so I don’t think it’s some plot to subjugate everyone. Could it be the way these guys are interpreting the directives they felt, the ones mentioned in earlier episodes by Ryouko and A-san and others? If humans have ruined (or are ruining) the planet, maybe the cleanup of that ruin could redeem the humans. Maybe reforming humanity is a valid interpretation of the goal.

Rivals and Questions

Parasyte-Date

I loved the relaxed nature of this

Satomi is trying. She can’t shake the idea that Shinichi is different, and to be fair to her, he is different. Can she live with the new him? And is the sticking point more that she’s just not sure that the new him is still him? I wonder why she even entertains the idea that Shinichi Izumi is a different entity than Shinichi Izumi was. That’s not really something that should be in the realm of human thought. How could someone be replaced by someone else? And sometimes even Shinichi wonders about himself, like those situations where he is overcome by what seems to be emotionality. This episode’s example of that was pretty contrived, I thought, since that didn’t seem like the series of steps that a mother would take with a kid at all. I can understand being worn out and tired of your kid and his tantrums, but that was an awfully big windup for a smack, and it would seem that slapping your kid like that is just not something you’d do in public anyway, even if you did it at home. But it did get the required reaction out of Shinichi.

Parasyte-T-hers-day

Shinichi gets even MORE buff in Kana’s dream

The two of them did have a nice date, tho, and Shinichi is pretty sure about his feelings for Satomi. Gone are the wishy-washy feelings from before. Maybe it’s part of his change that he actually invites her out for a date. And they have a pretty good time, but it seems that Satomi just can’t shake the couple times that she feels he’s different in significant ways. Is she letting something unimportant get in her way? Is the Shinichi now better or worse than the Shinichi before his almost death (which Satomi just doesn’t know about). And is she threatened at all by Kana, who keeps oscillating between feeling like she has a chance and realizing how close Satomi and Shinichi are. I think Shinichi does care for Kana more than a random other person, and he wants to keep her safe, but it’s hard without letting her know what the thing she senses is.

Then she sees her hopes go down the tubes

A different tactic for the parasites, and some romance involvement. This was more like Satomi and Shinichi were an actual couple, not just people dancing around before getting together. I think Shinichi thinks they’re a couple, although they don’t really act like it: he doesn’t wait for her to walk home from school with, they don’t seem to communicate a lot, although that happens off screen. And the show’s not really a romance show, it’s more using their relationship as a way to show Shinichi’s feelings for Satomi, and compare them to those for other people, and contrast them because he’s different.

It’s not looking good for the human race now that the parasites are attacking more openly and are astute enough to cover their tracks. They’re even trying for politics. The very thought of it makes me shudder and I’m not even part of the series.

Not that I don’t understand Satomi’s side of the story but her frequent inquiries are becoming tedious. Yes, there’s a difference. Still she should remember he went through something tough and had to build himself up from it. At this point, I just want her to finally know the truth so as to put an end to it and have her questioning from there whether she was better off not knowing. Because there’s no turning back and no peace of mind once she does.

This was quite awesome. I loved the personal and political natures they explored. And they put a damn One Punch Man action sequence right in the center….
