About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

So, Hilda’s mom tried to get over her Norma daughter by naming her new daughter Hilda? Eh?

But for Cross Ange, so much double suffering.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah a replacement daughter? Course Hilda is a bitch so she is getting everything thrown back in her face, but part of me does feel bad for her only like 10% LOL

      Ange got trolled~

      • skylion says:

        I think I feel a bit more than 10%. That’s pretty hard on her….

        • d-LaN says:

I definitely feel more bad for Hilda than Ange, be4 the entire episode turn into unintentional comedy anyway.

Cross Ange: I have to think there’s some pretty heavy brainwashing going on with Sylvia. We’ve seen that Julio is low enough to wreck the entire country (I liked the crossed out Misurugi on the sign) just to expose that Angelise is a Norma, and the two turning points of Sylvia’s accident and Sophia’s death are probably enough to hammer on Sylvia and make her hate Angelise. We’ll see what this ‘trial’ is, since at least in *my* sense of justice it’s kinda hard to pin the blame on someone who had no involvement in the deception. Of course, it’s not that kind of ‘trial’, it’s a star chamber set up by Julio to gin up a scapegoat for the fall of his country.

I noted that it’s kind of funny that vehicles that are powered by magic thoughts from their occupants, and no stored energy (like gasoline or batteries or anything else) blow up so well when they crash.

I can understand Hilda’s mom trying to rebuild her life and have another child (without dad, apparently). This is a crap situation all around. Yeah, Hilda was sent to prison, but mom now had to live with no daughter and rumors of “oh, is *she* a Norma, too? Maybe she’s defective.” I can understand the impetus to have another child, a ‘human’ child, one that’s not a ‘monster’. There are plenty of times people will try to have a ‘replacement’ child when one dies. I don’t know if the show’s trying to make any sort of point about racism, or just using this kind of cartoonish / buffoonish racism as a drama point, but they really do lay it on thick. Unfortunately, I don’t think there will come to be any sort of reasoning why, unlike a show like Shin Sekai Yori, which did a great job at explaining why they had such a crap world, and justifying how they ended up like they did.

I guess there’s a justification for the folks at the prison contracting with Tusk to try to recover Ange, since she represents a significant asset in sunk cost and DRAGON fighting ability. I guess that Hilda will be sent back as well, and we’ll see if the show explores any of her future mindset, since one of her reasons for continuing on, the chance to escape and see her mother, has been crumpled up and thrown away.

    • Foshizzel says:

Brainwashing or how she really feels? For all we know Sylvia had those feelings bottled up inside for a long time, but for the added WTF twist yeah I think brainwashing is totally what Cross Ange would use on that character or dumb magic.

Maybe magic is explosive in that universe? LOL I didn’t even think about…

Yeah I think eventually we will get that answer later on, but with Sunrise I wouldn’t expect anything groundbreaking like Shin Sekai because in the past with their stand alone non Gundam shows the answers are usually “because reasons” and that pisses people off! Like Valvrave? Where do the vamps come from? NOBODY knows! Cause they are aliens.

Well Tusk existing in the OP is good enough reason for him to be around and if anything he will save Ange soon! I sorta want a DRAGON to show up and kill off a bunch of mana users so Ange can prove to the world that NORMA are not evil…

      • Highway says:

The idea that Ange as a Norma could kill Dragons wouldn’t do anything to stop the idea that Normas are brutish subhumans. Send a monster to kill a monster.

      • Highway says:

See, I don’t think this show has leaned on “because reasons” nearly as much as Valverave, or even the Gundam shows. We’ll see if they contradict it, but what I’m thinking about their world is that everyone was a ‘Norma’, and then somehow people started being born able to use mana, like an evolutionary step. And when there were enough of them, they were able to redefine ‘human’ to mean the new humans who use mana, and the old humans as monsters. Even the name “norma” speaks to this kind of development.

To me, the premises of Cross Ange are really interesting, and the themes it deals with are interesting. Racism, xenophobia, redefinition / repositioning of society, the life of people in forced exile. Does it have instances of bad writing? Definitely, I won’t deny that. But for me those haven’t been anything close to wrecking the show.

  3. SherrisLok says:

I’m surprised that people still watch Cross Ange for anything resembling plot.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Because it had/has so much potential to have plot! Plus we can still hope.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I think the appeal for the series comes down to what will Sunrise do to Ange next?! That alone could bring people back every week and I agree there really is no official plot right now as to WHAT ange plans on doing because she doesn’t have any real plan that I can see.

    • Jrow says:

For me, I put the period after “Ange” in that sentence.

    • d-LaN says:

Cross Ange does actually have legit good plot, character development and buildup after a few episodes (to me anyay) , but then this episode turn all that buildup and development into BEST COMEDY OF THE SEASON.

Though I guess it does achieve something if I have more faith in this over Grisaia no Kajitsu.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

I would have to dare to agree, though the way I see it is that after a few episodes of buildup, they blow it all to kingdom come with an episode.

  4. BlackBriar says:

Cross Ange: Ohh, I felt disgusted the entire 9th episode. All the people who turned on Ange and Hilda need intense torture. It’s a given they wouldn’t like it if the shoe was the other foot.
