Hey all! While there is a story to build an more to explore with Teppei and a little bit Akari, perhaps not the most fun episode of Captain Earth we’ve seen, but one that still provides value.

I think this served rather well as a middle of the first cour thingy. It laid it on rather thick that there is agenda everywhere, and that any action is done for multiple purposes. What those things are is going to unfold.

We are getting there! I think by episode 8 or 12 we should have more of an idea as to what CE is trying to do.

Daichi never stood a chance. He was at level 2 and Hana at level 100.

Despite them trying to set up these big plots and intrigue, everything about this show still feels very primary colors, big shapes, thick crayon lines. Just not much subtlety at all. There’s Plan A and Plan B, and the people who like Plan A are trying to sabotage Plan B, and the people who like Plan B are trying to sabotage Plan A (there’s no other word for trying to pre-kidnap Eiji, because the whole point was “Those guys want him, we’ll get him first, even though we don’t need him”). The villain guy has as much depth as a reflecting pool, i.e. none.
The themes of family and togetherness are pretty good, and I thought that Akari’s mom saying that no matter what had happened or the real reason for their visit, she was just more happy to see Akari. Not “I feel betrayed” or “making a big lecture / scene about it”. Just “I’m still happy you came” with an unreserved smile, especially from a character that had been given a reputation as grumpy and humorless.
The boy-girl relationships still feel pretty forced. It’s like they started off the show concept with “We want Daichi and Hana to be a couple” and then said “We might as well make Teppei and Akari a couple, because why not.” I mean, it’s not outside of the realm of possibility that these four could pair up this way, but they’re not really giving us any reason or development toward that end.

Yeah! This one really hit it home that Daichi doesnt even know what to feel towards “parents” while he experienced some of that through Akari which is a nice touch and hopefully that pushes Teppei to realize he truly wants to find out more about his parents if they even exist…

Really? After the famous Belly Button Forte scene, I had Akari and Daichi in mind, with the other two somehow being part of the conga line. Actually, after this episode, I don’t have very pleasant feelings for Teppei’s future.

It seems really obvious to me that the ‘official’ OTPs are Daichi / Hana and Akari / Teppei. Hana goes to Daichi’s side when he’s laid up. Hana is the one who wants to spend more time living at the house with him. Hana’s the one who was inspired to save him by enabling Teppei’s use of Albion. Then this episode it’s Teppei and Akari spending time together, learning about family together, getting more comfortable together. Like everything else in the show, it’s as subtle as a locomotive.
Even Akari’s Belly Button Forte attack on Daichi was “You’re feeling sad because Hana’s incommunicado, I’ll cheer you up for her sake.”

Yeah, yeah. Maybe these goggles of mine need to go to the shop?
POWUH: and LOLi Defender with 10998 comments
Oh, my goggles just came back from the shop, and my ship remains the same. You might want to send your Ishuukun goggles elsewhere.

You might want to get some ointment while you’re at it. Those goggles were probably welded onto your face for some time.

True the OTPs are a bit forced ill agree with that but who else would you pair up? Akari and Daichi seem to be more bro/sis or cousin like in nature while Hana and Teppei are a bit flat if you paired them off so having each alien paired off with a human kind of works better.

I agree, an Akari / Daichi pair really cuts off everything else in the show. If Hana and Teppei were going to be a pair, why didn’t they start on that when they were the only two people there? It took Daichi coming in to inject some life into Hana (hah! literally), and spark her interest. It’s just not being shown that well so far.

Crawling in my skin!!
We know the story calls for it but it felt like Teppei’s sadness and uneasiness realizing what kind of being he turned out to be was forced. I had trouble accepting it as his true emotion because it seemed as if he was trying to feel something.
The Teppei-Eiji being father and son thing is jarring though most saw it coming. If anything, they look more like siblings. Either Eiji was experimented on and his aging process was halted or he was put into cryo-sleep right after they last saw each other. For once, I hoping “clones” isn’t an option here. That possibility is overused, in my opinion.

The father-son dynamic is forced. Borrowing genetic material does not an offspring make. Yeah, the feelings are there, but they just seem to damn weird.
POWUH: and Vampire Lover with 11746 comments
That’s not all. The reveal would’ve been more believable with perhaps another episode but was dumped on this one which makes the whole thing feel forced. If an attempt to generate drama, the result is a dud. The correspondence between Akari and her mother is more natural by comparison.

You know, I really got the impression through the show that calling it “genetic material” was a bit of a misdirection. Eiji’s attitude towards Teppei was MUCH more protective throughout than just some gene donor. That he named the boy, and the reveal that the reason he was a ‘criminal’ was because he had fought to protect Teppei belie the easy narrative that he was just the source of his chromosomes. I think there’s definitely more to that relationship, at least in Eiji’s mind, and wouldn’t be surprised to see him back.

With Eiji taking it upon himself to separate from Teppei in order to protect him and the series only 1/5 of the way through, the odds are more than likely to have him make a return.

I kinda wish Teppei’s dad was his brother instead it would have worked a bit better to build up a whole “eventually meeting our real dad” story! Who knows their dad could have been the leader of the Kiltagang xD

Keeping Teppei in the dark, using dirty tricks to protect him, even if it means making himself look like a low down degenerate. That kind of self sacrifice made him seem like Itachi Uchiha for a moment.
