Surprise Attack!
This might be the definition of a battle you cannot win, no matter if you ‘defeat the enemy’
Resurgent Feelings
Satone’s too alone with her thoughts
Another side character-focused story, but this one definitely had more impingement on the main couple. Satone has really fallen hard for Yuuta (again), and rather than go the harem route she realizes she needs to get over him. Really, she has zero chance of prying Yuuta away from Rikka, something she realizes (and so does everyone else, like Touka). There’s certainly no fault to Yuuta, he’s just being himself, and you can’t even say that he’s leading Satone on at all. To him, she’s just another person, like Shinka, Kumin, or Sanae. And even if Rikka gets a little hostile at him being nice to her (splish-splash), she realizes that he’s not going anywhere, I think.
You do NOT mess with Touka
In fact, it’s so certain that he’s not going to stray that Touka thinks it’s ok to go to back to Italy, but not without asking for a favor from Rikka’s friends. And I think that Shinka and friends hammer home just how infatuated Satone is with Yuuta with situational examples. She’s resolved to defeat this enemy within, tho, and thanks to Rikka conveniently running off, she gets her chance.
Total embarrassment
The Final Battle?
Maybe a little too theatrical on Satone’s part
It was a bit painful to watch. It’s not that Satone’s a bad girl. She’s just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the guy she likes is completely and thoroughly in love with another girl. Which he proceeds to tell her about, at her insistence. And even though Yuuta and Rikka haven’t gone that far down the road of lovers, their love for each other is unmistakeable and unshakeable. Yuuta’s litany of their experiences, even giving Satone credit for some of their closeness, is played like a series of physical attacks, but she’s determined to survive. And Yuuta, completely oblivious to what the real reason is, just gets embarrassed on his own behalf.
The unfair death blow
And maybe the battle was called off earlier than it should have been, but what’s Yuuta going to do when Rikka asks for his help. As he runs off with a nostalgic move (maybe a final blow), Satone thinks she’s defeated her feelings when she holds back the tears. But that wasn’t all, because as she’s celebrating her ‘victory’, he comes back with an umbrella and it all ends in tears. And you just can’t blame him. He just can’t see her feelings for him, even if he should, and as Touka says, “He only has eyes for Rikka.” But that’s not going to spare Satone her heartbreak.
How will Satone’s breakdown in front of him affect Yuuta? Rikka’s waiting for him, but can he leave someone crying like that? And what will happen when Rikka finds out that he’s been with Satone? She’ll definitely have a reaction, although it probably won’t be too bad, because Satone will explain. But Yuuta should learn to be more perceptive. If he’s affecting her this much, and everyone else can see it, maybe he should cut it out. Or at least have someone explain it to him so that he understands what’s going on.

I admire Satone’s choice to sever her ties of infatuation of Yuuta for Rikka’s sake. It’s a mature thing to do instead of chasing him with no hope of receiving recognition. Such a choice would’ve backfired anyway since directly strengthened their bond by helping Rikka at all.

As much effort as it took Rikka to get Yuuta’s attention, with no competition, there’s no way that Satone could put out that effort without getting shut down by Rikka and her friends. It was just too obvious she didn’t have a chance, and plus, Satone just has too much good character to be a dorobo neko.

Touka changes her mind, takes Rikka back to Italy with her, Satone gets Yutta. Yeah, that could happen….
Nah.
Well, last episode we saw the ultimate chuunification of how to maintain a relationship, Version UP. This time we see Satone use it to undermine her own feelings.
To be prepared for everything but kindness…

It truly was a sneak attack (although to give KyoAni credit, they did put in his footsteps as Yuuta came back to Satone) after Satone let down her guard. I’m rather dubious of the whole idea of Satone’s battle, because it’s not going to stop the feelings when she’s alone in bed. The only thing that will change those is time.

…and maybe not living above him and Rikka. Wow.
