Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai Ren – 07
The eyes of a girl with a crush
Maybe I’ll catch up on my posts, since it’s been a pretty tough week. Back to normal next week, tho, so sleeping will happen as well! Let’s see what happens with the continuation of the school trip for Rikka and Yuuta
A Date Interrupted
“Get off my man, you tart!”
Spending the day only with the person you like has to be called a date, whether Rikka or Yuuta is willing to call it that. And it’s going pretty well until a highly coincidental meeting with Satone. All the way to the other end of the country, and the next door neighbor is there. And to make it worse, she’s lost her bag, so she doesn’t have a phone or money. And even if she can understand that she’s being a third wheel, Yuuta can’t really just send her on her way. So unfortunately, they do too much stuff together, and make Rikka really jealous, especially after seeing Yuuta with an arcade token that Satone gives him. Of course, she’d get upset and run away.
Heartbroken
Everyone else in the story seems to get involved with Rikka and Yuuta after that, and Satone calls out Rikka to talk to her alone, about her feelings for Yuuta, in the past and in the present. Seems she developed quite the crush on him in middle school, to the point where she was giving up her delusional point of view. But instead of giving it up and confessing to him, she decided to give up on her crush on him, probably cause it was too embarrassing to actually confess. The net result of their talk is that Rikka finally believes that Satone is not after Yuuta, and maybe this worry of a love triangle will go away now.
A heart to heart talk
And with that all out of the way, we finally get those two back on track, with an actual present from Yuuta to Rikka for her birthday: a replacement popup umbrella. Combined with the reconciliation, and talk of Yuuta’s more accepting attitude of Rikka’s weirdness, it puts her in a really good mood, so she surprises him with maybe her first real confession, saying she likes-loves him in plain language, not obfuscated by Dark Powers or Ancient Contracts.
So moe!
Someone New in the Mix?
Woken up by her girlfriend
The B-plot this week was a continuation of that website that Shinka was shown about Mori Summer last episode, as she talks to Sanae repeatedly about getting rid of it. Both of them are under the mistaken impression that the other has made the site. But really, neither one did, so who did? Is it Satone? Or is it someone else who has come to believe in the Mabinogion? I still think the best thing is the way Shinka’s friends don’t really care about the Mori Summer stuff. It’s just part of who “Nibu” is. And we also see that Sanae is equally disappointed that Shinka didn’t call her just to be friendly, instead of accusing her of making the website. I think they’re finally realizing that they’re friends.
Another episode of progress for Rikka and Yuuta, and disposing of Satone as an interloper in the process. What will happen now that Rikka’s actually said that “suki” word? Yuuta looked pretty shocked when she said it, like he didn’t know what to do. Get it together, boy! It shouldn’t be that much of a surprise. Now we’ll have to see if they make any more moves, after holding hands. Maybe kissing? I doubt the show will get much farther than that, cause I think Rikka would probably die of embarrassment if they actually got farther.

I’m on the fence about this one. With her confession to Rikka, Satone just went from minor interest to “why did they even write her in?”. Will nothing from the LN make it to screen? I guess with five episodes left, they may resort to that.
But it’s the icing and the cake this episode. If she can confess like that; plainly without the chuuni, then I don’t think the next steps in a relationship will be that much of a problem. I see an exponential growth from here.

From my understanding, the LN has always had only a tenuous relationship with the anime, even in the first season (It was my understanding that Sanae Dekomori is a completely anime-original character). So it wouldn’t be surprising if it goes a completely different direction, still.
I don’t know what Satone’s role in the LN is, but I think she’s been fine in this series. One of my peeves is when a new supporting character is introduced and immediately sucks all of the air out of the room, because the writers don’t have anything they can do with the old characters. That thankfully hasn’t happened here, and Satone’s been present enough to make a difference, but not attention grabbing enough to change the character of the show.

Her entrances and goings on in the LN were much more dynamic and I would have loved to have seen those scenes animated. In the original LN the chuuni battleground and the real battleground traded places left right and center. They kinda did that with Satone’s introduction.
Yeah, Dekomori, and Middle Sister are complete originals.

Hmm, I kind of like the way they’ve been doing it. I would worry that having too much chuuni fighting would get old, and possibly fight against the narrative of Rikka moving away from that as she ‘changes’ and becomes more rabu-rabu with Yuuta.

Oh, I’m not dissatisfied with how they’ve gone forward with the show. But with chuuni fights in mind, I think they might have one more big one in there…

Oh, I’m sure there’s going to be at least one more, probably more like 2. I just wouldn’t want it to be every time Satone showed up.

Sounds like you really had it rough. For your sake, I hope you didn’t pull a Hachiken working yourself to the point you collapsed from fatigue. 😀
It wouldn’t a true relationship between Yuuta and Rikka if a cute third party didn’t intervene to test their bond, even if said third party never intended for such a situation to happen. I’m glad to see Rikka and Satone settle their differences by talking things out and establishing a mutual understanding instead of overreacting because of heated emotions, which is the most obvious thing to expect.

I shouldn’t complain too much. Just too much stuff to watch, and trading sleep for that.

I can understand that. Sometimes, when I’m busy during the day, I won’t be able to watch any of the shows until later, like maybe around 8 or 9 pm and won’t sleep until maybe 1 am the following day and wake up a few hours later.

Well, this week was more like “add 3+ hours of Olympics each day to normal routine, so WoW raid from about 8:30 to midnight, then a few hours of Olympics after that, in addition to normal work hours.”
