Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta – 04

The long-awaited… pool episode?!

Well, this post is really late. Sorry, have been buried under a mountain of schoolwork recently – the holidays are coming soon though, so soon it’ll be time to say hello to a time of rolling around all day ^A^

I think the problem with everyone at the office is that they are really protective of Hime. Even though Akira said it was because she was only human, I think it’s less of that and more of the fact that they didn’t want to worry her. Of course, Hime having suffered some emotional trauma already from the old man earlier that day criticising her for not being a good enough mayor, would start to feel insecure and angry at her friends for leaving her out of the loop – she’s the mayor of Sakura Newtown, and because of that she’s decided that it is her responsibility to shoulder the expectations and wellbeing of both the youkai and humans in the town even whilst being a mere teenager, so it’s understandable why she would feel really betrayed by this. Being the mayor of a town like this (or being in any position of authority or leadership in general I suppose) is not all sunshine and rainbows, and although the majority of the people will be grateful towards you, there will always, always be people who think otherwise. Hime’s still a young girl and is definitely at the age where she cares about what people think about her, so she hasn’t really figured how to deal with these criticisms yet. This adding on to the fact that her friends just withheld really important information from her, would probably be enough for her to either get really depressed, or really angry – it’s all part of the growing process though, it’ll be interesting to see how she deals with it in the next episode.

Now on the note of the two worlds merging, imagine all the chaos that is about to break loose. I’m not only talking about the negative sides here, whatnot with the existing youkais in the town going crazy and dying – but also the possibility of people getting to meet their friends and family who have been tuned to the other side once again. Tuning has always been a thing of finality – being sent to another dimension forever, not being able to see your loved ones ever again, but now, because of the blooming of the Seven Pillars, it’s become sort of a source of hope. Is the evil cat-guy trying to bring it forward to disrupt the balance of the two worlds, or does he also have a hidden motive of meeting someone else once again? If the people come to know about this, would conflicting interests arise between those who fear the problems that it may bring and would thus prefer to try to stop it from happening and those who would give up anything to see someone else once again, thus pushing for it to happen faster? Well, all we know for now is this: a storm is coming.

I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy the earlier part of the episode, whatnot with all of them getting hilariously drunk and silly, but what I like the most about Yozakura is that they manage to transition from that kind of slice-of-life scenes to the serious, fantasy notes really naturally while keeping it engaging for its viewers. While last episode focused more on Akira, this episode seemed to give us a wider glimpse into Hime’s background — her grandmother and only living relative who had passed down the legacy and title of Mayor to her, and also her little cousin who looks up to her in every way. It seems like with the next episode the real action is about to begin, and it will be really fun getting to see how everyone comes together to defeat a common enemy! Also, from the preview: Hime’s a youkai?! Well, it looks like next episode is going to be an exciting one.
