We’re now halfway through NouKome’s lamentably short 10-episode run, and straight in the middle of the current arc. Let’s find out if Kanade is making much progress.

“Imouto *and* osananajimi all in one! Good Job, Amacchi!”
Not really, but this episode gives us the search for the 5th candidate to help the Reject 5 in their battle against the Popular 5. And to my huge surprise, Chocolat is rejected as the 5th person (buuuuuut…), as the apparently required imouto character shows up. Of course, Yuragi isn’t actually anyone’s imouto, but she likes to call everyone “Onii-chan” and “Onee-chan.” Or even a special “Onee-sama” for Furano. The only one who she isn’t an imouto to is Chocolat, apparently.
Ouka thinks everything is fun
So with Yuragi around, Kanade realizes that his mission gets easier the more girls who already have said they like him in the battle, so he goes along with having Yuragi on the team, against his initial plan to refuse. He even tries to exploit the ‘like / love’ dual nature of ‘suki’, but is shut down by Furano’s refusal to say that she likes him as a person. Oh well, he’s still got some time. And Furano’s even up to her actual tsundere tricks, getting jealous that Kanade calls Yuragi by her given name and taking it out on Kanade.

We do get the full introduction to the rest of the combatants, except for Yumeshima, who I’m back to thinking we’ll never see. Joining from the Popularity team are the previously introduced Sougi, Seira, and Konagi, joined by Touya Yoshiwara (a boy who Kanade doesn’t need to worry about) and Ayame Reikadou, the ring-curled, big boobed ojou-sama from the OP (that’s all the girls in the OP introduced now!). And given the nature of the show, we then get a nice digression into boobs, with Furano upset that hers are small, Reikadou picking a fight with Furano over size, and Yuragi plenty happy to let Kanade stare at hers. Meanwhile Sougi has had it with imoutos, having 5 of his own, and Touya falls for Chocolat, who blunders in to tell Kanade that she’s hungry.

Basically, it’s chaos, but amusing chaos, into which Kanade is forced to say that he’s going to make all the girls say they like him (he could have chosen to have them all love him, but not have their memories erased, but he decides he can’t have their feelings forcibly changed). Of course, that’s going to make him look bad, but Ouka is really catching on about these things, and is starting to think that he doesn’t really mean all the things he says. If she guesses, can he reveal his condition to her?

Bonus Imouto Spinning and Plain Chocolat!
Yeah, I’m pretty sure that the blank spot will end up being Chocolat. Why introduce another character they’ve been resisting so far, when there’s a convenient puppy around to fill the slot? I wasn’t expecting a nise-imouto, but Reikadou is about exactly what I was expecting. We’ll see if she keeps up the super haughty act throughout tho.
All in all, another fun episode, with very little time to think about anything between all the jokes. The characters really do seem to work in this show, even if it’s kinda crazy. And there’s just that tinge of trouble, that little undercurrent that something’s not quite right, maybe helped by the minor key of the ED song.

I find the references in this show, like the ones in Outbreak Company, to be well done, not drivers of the comedy. The whole joke sequence with the “Nice Boat…” and then the desk construction was while doing something else for the plot. And also hinting that maybe if Furano doesn’t end up with Kanade, she’ll end up with at least a part of him…

To me, this one’s a lot more fun through this point than Hentai Ouji. That show really felt like it abandoned any attempt at comedy about 4 episodes in, and just went all serious. Plus, the story got really convoluted with time travel and layered wishes and all sorts of stuff.

Well, if Reikadou is gonna end up interested in Kanade, at least enough to say she likes him, then she’s gotta get Yuragi out of the way somehow. I do find the depiction of Reikadou’s boobs to be interesting, tho, with her attitude about them and their outlandish size and realistic droopiness.

The manag is Tsugumomo, and needs more love. It also needs an adaption. It fits right into the HS DxD good ecchi category.

Yuragi is so much win. She just has to be everyone’s little sister, and then it looks like she will be using that to her advantage.
Hard to believe that that is only Naomi Ohzora’s second major role. Right after our beloved Susanna.

Yuragi didn’t annoy as much as most imouto characters seem to, maybe because she’s obviously doing it as an affectation or schtick. And she proved that everyone wants a little sister of some type, even the guy who already has 5.
I think she probably had more lines in this one episode of NouKome than in all of Genshiken…

I didn’t laugh too much this week but it continues to amuse me. I like how this show keeps playing around with the harem tropes like the whole thing with Sougo imoutos. This week alternate take went back into the ridiculosly LOL direction which I like. Good job Ouka. 😛

So…. what gender is Yumeshima is again? S/he looks like a guy yet this episode refer Yumeshima as a “her”. I believe previously they mention Yumeshima as a guy too. Also, I’m still holding onto the hope tht Yumeshima will make his/her debut in the clinax of the show >_<

I’d guess Yumeshima is a girl, but it’s hard to tell.
Even now, Kanade is an attractive guy. It’s only that he starts getting so weird and random and creepy that keeps him from being a normal kid. The girls nearby even say “He’s kinda cute, but what’s he doing?”
Seira definitely seems to perceive something. But it’s hard to believe that she’d be afflicted with something like that, given that she’s super popular. Of course, we don’t know what sensei’s choices were either, so maybe it’s just Kanade who gets super embarrassing ones.
